Two new guys getting sucked into the Warhammer 40k universe by those pesky chaos gods. Welcome to the 41st Millennia, where all you need to know is; "there is only WAR!" ; )
What I love about the Marines is the sense of just how unstoppable they are. After the fight with the Psykers, a group of humans would have taken a few moments to regroup, recover and check wounded. The Space Marines barely even break step. Enemy dead, back on task, immediately.
There's actually a very good reason for ramming the enemy ship! Warships in the warhammer universe are extremely heavily armed with tons of point defense weapons from missiles, lasers and solid ammunition cannons, as we saw as they were approaching the ship. The best way to defeat these systems is speed. So they designed a torpedo specifically to deliver Astartes into enemy ships for boarding actions. Keep in mind, this torpedo is going to be going hundreds of miles an hour and the impact into another ship would turn normal humans into jelly. On another note, when the two officers killed the inquisitor (the guy who looked like he was praying) they were absolutely doing the right thing. The inquisitor was a psyker, basically warhammers equivalent of a wizard or a spell caster. To simplify it to the extreme, in order to cast spells in warhammer you basically need to tap into the power of hell to project that power into our reality. Tapping into that power can be extremely risky, however, as there's always a chance that a demon might notice what you're doing and hijack your hell connection to take a trip to our plane if existence. This is bad. VERY BAD. Standard operating procedure in the event of this is to kill the psyker as quickly as possible before the demon has a chance to manifest. Its the only way to save the psyker from the pain and horror of becoming a demon host, watching as their body is turned into something else horrifying as their consciousness takes a backseat to the demon's, and it saves everyone else on board the ship from being ripped apart limb by limb.
i'm not sure if the Psyker was actually an Inquisitor, and not just an Assermented psyker, ordained by an Inquisitor to assist the Marines in their task. Thats the kind of thing an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor would do, to assist and send personel from his own suit, or in his service, Inquisitors don't have to do the menial or dangerous tasks themselfs, thats why they recruit specialised personel for that.
Another thing you should mention is that human pyskers are especially potent and a single untrained, unbound individual can easily dominate a solar system's worth of beings with their mind on top of all of the demon-bait shenanigans if they develop unnoticed.
Imagine being impaled by a 3 foot knife being held by a 7 1/2 foot tall, 800 lb. demigod clad in enough metal to crunch out half a Hummer. Death would be beyond quick.
“We don’t even know what Astartes means.” Fools! They are the finest warriors of the God Emperor! With great armor that they are clad in, and great weapons armed, they will have tactics, strategies, and machines that no fool will best them in battle! They are the bulwark against terror! They are the Defenders of humanity! And they! Shall know! No! Fear!
But wait, there's more! Thanks to a deal just reached between Roboute Gilliman and Bellisarius Caul, were going to upgrade your Adeptus Astartes to Adeptus Astartes Primaris, if you call within the next 15 minutes! This is a "Once in a Lifetime" offer folks, get it before the franchise is rebooted.
The reason the blood looks super-weird is actually because the creator paid attention to detail with the lore of the universe - Space Marines are *extensively* modified and one of the biological modifications causes their blood to clot extremely quickly. The idea being that fast clotting = bleeding stops quickly, resulting in less likelihood of death by blood loss, and healing is able to begin almost immediately. But it also means that when they're wounded or cough up blood, the blood has already started to clot by the time it hits the ground.
That, and if that teleportation involved the warp, it's been mentioned that the chaotic energy can mutate the microrganisms inside a person. So those could have also been mutated single celled organisms. Which an astartes would imediatly expell or destroy.
Gentlemen, if you want to understand what is going on here, you need to acquire some background knowledge. The Adeptus Astartes, also known as "Space Marines" is the elite of the human empire in the Warhammer 40k universe. Genetically optimized and equipped with the best of what technology has to offer in every way, these super warriors are usually the spearhead in crisis situations that require quick reactions. In contrast to the Imperial Guard, the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are organized in independent groups that are usually only referred to as "Chapters". The world of the Warhammer 40k is really very extensive. But if you are interested I recommend a video from "The Templin Institute" which gives a pretty good overview of the empire. May the emperor be with you and may the Imperium endure another ten thousand years.
May the God Emperor watch over them. @Proteus2905 is right. The Adeptus Astartes is the bog standard when it comes to dealing anything the Warp and Chaos can throw at you. if you're a regular ground pounder the most you can do is hope to survive until the Astartes show up.
Yeah. In addition, some of these chapters can have their origins from an original legion of Space marines. 20 of these Legions used to exist under what was known as a primarch. Think of them like space marines but times by 100. They’re stronger, more adept, and have the ability to process information at speeds that would make normal humans and even Other Super human beings of other universes. Now each of these 20 primarchs were essentially a Part of the emperor of mankind. A great physic being who essentially was guiding mankind into a future of prosperity and peace. At least until the Collapse happened and the dark age of humanity. Then the emperor stepped out from the shadows to unite all of mankind under his banner, since he saw that of humanity was to survive, he had no other alternative. So now back to the primarchs. As said before each was made to be a specific part of the Emperor himself. Such as Roubute Guilliman being his Administrative prowess and tactical thinking. Lion el Johnson being his Prowess as a warrior and bravery in combat, but also his secrecy (id explain it but I’d rather not make you read an essay lol) and Someone like Rogal dorn being his Defender and builder. Originally 20 of these primarchs (2 of which had been killed off and are not named as of yet) Were scattered across the stars by the gods of chaos in order to prevent the emperor from having all of his sons. Eventually however he found each of his sons on various planets and each would be made to be in command of their space marine legion. Now eventually after a crusade against the Orks on Ulanor, The emperor left the best of his sons, Horus Luprical, in charge the crusade as he had to go back to his webway project, which would let humanity finally end their Reliance on the warp for travel. However eventually Horus was corrupted by chaos, and thus plotted a massive rebellion against his father, and through some scheming, The sending of the sons he knew would be loyal to the Emperor, and finally Gathering the support of his fellow brothers who wanted to revolt against him. Such as Lorgar, Angron, Mortarion, and Eventually, Magnus and Pertruabo along with Fulgrim. And thus a massive scale civil war began and to skip over a lot of detail just for the sake of your convenience. (Like seriously theres a lot of lore on this) eventually Horus reaches Terra, essentially earth. And after a prolonged siege he knows the Lion and Guilliman are both on their way. The Lion commanding the greatest warriors, and Guilliman commanding the largest due to their low casualities in combat and Strategy. So Horus in a gamble, Lowered his void shields on his capital ship, “The Vengeful spirit.” and challenged the emperor to a duel in his ship. So the Big E brought his two sons Sanguinius, the angel. And Rogal dorn, the pretorian of Terra with him, along with some custodies and Personal guards to the primarchs, to end the rebellion. However, each of them was scattered throughout the vengeful spirit. And thus it was Sanguinius who met Horus first. And after a duel, Sanguinius was killed by Horus, after he snapped his neck. Then the emperor entered the room and after an attempt to bring his son back to the light, they dueled. Now the Emperor was almost defeated in this fight, but due to the Heroism of a Certain Simple guardsman to stand up to a Primarch corrupted by chaos, The emperor unleashed his full power in a final gamble to destroy his son, and in doing so Destroyed Horus utterly. After this The Big E was placed on the golden throne and has since then acted as a beacon for what’s known as the astronomicon. Essentially think of it as a Beacon to guide ships through warp travel. And since then nearly all his sons have disappeared or Have died. Except Roubute Guilliman who in the late 41st millennium, has returned to serve the imperium of man after being revived from a Cut to the neck by Fulgrim. And since then has led an Indomitus crusade to gain back the imperial worlds lost, and to reinforce the various chapters. So yeah. That’s at least a Kindof Basic(ish) Overview of the Origins of the space marines and their chapters.
I read the best description of WH40K in a comment-section a while back: Most sci-fi universes show abundances of technology too arcane to be understood in basic household appliances, conflicts and death are dramatic happenings that are followed by funerals etc. WH40K is more like a futuristic diesel-punk version of WW1, with lasguns, flamethrowers and bayonettes. And fallen comrades, loved, feared or respected alike, are thrown on the edge of the trenches to serve The Emperor in death...as sandbags.
@@JainZar1 It's too abridged to really be clear on anything, though. It's an _okay_ place to start, but I'd recommend Luetin09 (or however you spell it) for more in-depth stuff.
That last wide shot is way more epic than most people realize. The main character pops in and you see the corpses sitting in chairs. If you look closely those pillars around the valley are the same as the one he's standing on and the rest of his team are teleported to their own column. You can see the flashes on each and one of them falling to the valley floor. He's standing on a column that is a good 400' above the valley floor. That makes the closest corpse about a quarter mile away.
@@austindemuynck9460 So true! Space Marines: genetically-enhanced humans in power armour. Stand around 8' - 8'6" all-in Orks: Artificially created fungoid bio-weapon that literally spring-up out of the ground in huge numbers, that are both innately psychic and "just know" how to build and use technology. A typical, fully-grown Ork STARTS at 7' and is fully capable of pulling the arms off a Space Marine... And they only get bigger and more intelligent the more successful they are! And that's before we get to Tyrannids!
When that guy started getting blue glowing eyes and mouth that means he's been possessed by something, in warhammer 40k its much easier, faster, and most importantly SAFER to eliminate the one being possessed as quickly as possible, if you think the Astartes or "space marines" are a nightmare to deal with then you don't want to know the demons of their world, and trust me if you feel sorry for the one being possessed don't, if they could they would thank you for putting them down so quickly.
Yeah, non-fans really can't understand what horrors can spill forth from just one possessed psyker, and the suffering that possessed psyker goes through. If anything, the Inquisitor should have been put down the moment he started twitching.
that is the specific reason why most humans hate psychers and why 99% of the ig regiments don’t like sanction psychers, holding a active atomic bomb on a backpack is more safe than being on a 30ft radios of a sanction psycher using his powers
I'm glad someone else points out the sound in this being awesome. Many of the amateur animations I've seen has been ruined by bad sound design, but with this, everything looks an sounds on point. As for different armors, there are about 1000 different chapters of spacemarines who have been waring aliens and traitors for over 10000 years, so there is a lot of lore to dive into!
Title: ... sees Astarties for the first time. 2 seconds into the video: "I've seen parts of this." I loved the reactions, but can I suggest watching "Ever Warhammer 40K faction explained (by Bricky)". Is always nice to see people learn about 40K and I'm sure it would get you a large amount of positive reactions fast. Keep up the good work : )
bruhh there's literally other videos on this channel were another 2 different guys go through bricky's content. Considering that this is the second reaction to Astartes on this channel, it'd be complete cringe for another two dudes to have to watch all through bricky's content again lmfao
"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. ... In great armor shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed."
The Inquisitor (guy in the robe) says “Alert them immediately” when he turns to the Chaptermaster (guy on his right with the white helmet, cape, and the emblems on his helm. Also, those orbs are Yu’Vaath tech, have fun going down that rabbit hole. Oh one more thing, those orbs were a way of quickly traveling through the Warp, as evidence of when he vomits up _clotted_ blood, so you know he’s not having the best of times
@@feraltrafficcone4483 The creator came out in a reddit post on r/warhammer and answered any and all questions regarding the production. They were an original creation, though in hindsight and due to a lack of research, he says that it could have been unintentionally inspired by the Yu'Vath. Shouldn't really trust any source when all they are doing is reacting to something that keeps the story so ambiguous. The very fact that no one said it with absolute certainty, and had to look for tiny details or pull mental gymnastics to try and find connections (i.e the fact that they are not instantly identifiable) means that it couldn't have been the Yu'Vath, or its tech. If it isn't instantly-recognizeable, then every assumption should be taken as just that, and you shouldn't take the word of a random youtube (who has had very skewered interpretations before. Arch just sees what he wants to see in most cases, and convinces himself that his mental gymnastics are real factors of interpretation)
Regarding the suits flashing past near the end of the animation they are custom themes made for patron supporters. But others are right in what they have said, multitude of power armoured factions with their own themes exist. (Eg spacewolfs= vikings, blood angels = vampire egos etc etc).
astarte was the last name of amar astarte who in the lore was the scientist primarily responsible for developing the process of turning a boy into a space marine(the protagonist in the armor), as recognition for her fine work the emperor of mankind dubbed the high gothic name for space marines as "astartes" after her last name. You can think of high gothic kind of like how scientist use Latin in biological descriptions, where they have the common name say "dog" and a the latin name "canis familiaris", with the equivalnet being low gothic "space marines" and high gothic "adeptus astartes".
Astartes has officially become official, and the creator is now part of Games Workshop, or subsidiary, to make more. It sucks because it has been removed from TH-cam and moved to Games Workshops labyrinthine pages. But we are likely to see much more in the future so that may help to even things out in the longer term.
Notes pronounced A-Start-Eez, they are sort of the grandchildren of the God Emperor of Mankind. He is effectively a living god, around since like 8,000 BC, and guided humanity is subtle ways until he mostly revealed himself to humanity roughly in the year 30,000 AD he created 20 sort of demigods, with science, his own genetic material, and the help of The Warp, which is an entire story unto itself. the beings in the warp discovered that the Emperor planned on cutting The Warp off from reality with the help of these 20 demigods so scattered them across the galaxy in their incubation pods. Using the genetic template of these demigods he created a group of organs that could be installed into a young male (preferably before puberty started, but accepted some in puberty) these boys would then grow to be Astartes, or Space Marines. These troops would form the bulk of the Emperor's armies to take over the galaxy, cut reality off from The Warp and lead humanity into a golden age of science and reason. 2 of his 20 children, called Primarchs, were scrubbed from history, and his greatest son was tricked by The Warp into turning half his brothers against the Emperor and almost killing him. Now, 10,000 years later The God Emperor of Mankind sits on The Golden Throne, a machine that amplifies and helps control his minds power while trying to keep his body healthy (it has long been slowly breaking down) Of Mankind the strongest being is The God Emperor of Mankind, next being his Primarch "children" (some are dead and some are Daemon Princes in The Warp), then come the Custodes, the emperors personal bodyguard, then the short lived Thunder Warriors who were used to take back Earth (terra) from techno barbarians. They were regular humans modified and enhanced and clad in great armour. They were essentially half crazed super soldiers who's only purpose was slaughter. The Emperor had them largely killed in the final battle for Earth as they were unsuited for anything besides destruction. Next in power are the "New" Primaris Marines, created under order by one of The Emperors Primarchs shortly after the rebellion, to be able to resist the whispers and corruption of The Warp. These were created and then held in stasis until the one that created them was told to let them enter service by the same Primarch that ordered their creation. This was after close to 10,000 years, and some hefty science, luck and another races help. The Primaris are faster, stronger, more resilient in mind and body than the standard Asartes. And while the Astartes maybe at the bottom of this list, they stand 7-8 feet tall, have 2 hearts, 3 lungs, 3 kidneys, larger stronger bones, larger stronger muscles, able to spit acid, detect chemicals in the air and food, and heal at an insane rate just to name a few. They have a Black Carapace under the skin of their torso to interface with their armour so they can wear it like a second skin.
The boarding was done using a boarding torpedo. The space marines load into it, then i flies to the enemy ship. When it's close enough it blasts its way into the enemy ship with the laser cannons and as it burrows into the ship it sprays special expanding foam behind it to seal the hole so the ship doesn't break up. Then the marines get out and as start killing. They're so much more powerful and gifted in war than baseline humans that it's not a contest. Hence the easy way the marines dispatched those traitorous humans. The rounds that the space marines bolt rifles fire are mass reactive, so when they explode inside their target which is why so many of the humans got blown apart. At the end an Inquisitorial psyker was trying to access the trapped orb, but then it took over and started talking to the other orb. The psyker lost control of his powers and got over run by the orb, that's why the other two space marines killed him because you can't risk having a powerful psyker lose control of his powers. It's called exorcism protocols.
The Astartes series is a pure work of art. Not only does the creator have a deep understanding of the universe, but also a deep understanding of just how disgustingly powerful Space Marines truly are. They're actually just walking tanks with weapons that basically fire grenades moving at the speed of bullets. And that's not even mentioning this guys insane talent in digital 3D art, sound design, and more. Iirc he got hired by Gearbox who I think own the rights to Warhammer 40k overall(?), idc about the company, but I'm happy the creator got the recognition deserved. Also there is no good guy in Warhammer 40k. The Imperium of man are basically Space Nazi's. And if you want a good guy, that may be the closest thing to a "good" guy. Everything in this universe is terrible, depressing, cruel, fucked up, and awful. But that, that is why it's such an interesting universe. It is basically "Which awful faction do you like the most?".
Small summary to help out. It's a universe where psychics are connected to the spirit realm (AKA: The Warp) and it is NOT a good place. Like, get your soul eaten and possessed by a demon (in setting spelling is “daemon”) is a common occurrence kind of bad. The two balls were containers for psychic aliens, meant to protect them from bad Warp stuff. One had been captured, it was used to track the other, which somehow convinced or mind-controlled a bunch of humans to try and make a different container for it to hide in. (that big statue) When the chips were down, the captured one tried to possess the one psychic (“Psyker” in setting) that was eavesdropping and shit did not go as planned because the two astartes did what you’re supposed to do the SECOND a psyker looks like they’ve been possessed by something. And the other one tried to transport the 5 astartes on the ship to another location, but it was immediately attacked/devoured by that "shadow" when he pulled the 5 astartes into his shell and into The Warp. Since going through The Warp is how this universe does Faster-Than-Light travel (which is a meme of "we punch a hole into the afterlife and sail through literally HELL to go to other galaxies!"), AND that alien lost control due to being attacked/eaten, those astartes could be a VERY long way away from where they started.
Thank you for pointing out how great the sound design is. I've watched a lot of reaction videos to this and most don't notice, or at least don't mention, the fantastic sound design.
Lol I know a lot of warhammer fans are screaming hieratic because of the lack of knowledge these two possess of the universe. But still even people who don’t know warhammer can fall in love with these animations
If you like the universe of Warhammer 40000, you may want to check Death of Hope series (2 trailers and one longer video). Also done by a single person.
Astartes is just the name for that section of the Human Military known as Space Marines. It means “Those who conquer the stars.” The other branches are Astra Militarum: Army, Infantry, Artillery Adeptus Mechanicus: Tech Priests/Manufacturers Adeptus Ministorum: Religious Ecclesiarchy Inquisition: Secret Police
"its just a cyclical world of war and death. I dont know maybe I'm just reading to much into those few seconds." I think thats what we call correct but not...
With every person I've seen react to Astartes, the more I want to nerd out about the Warhammer 40k universe with every single one. I know you guys have watched 40k lore stuff since, but it doesn't stop me from wanting to nerd out about "Oh yeah, this is there cuz" etc.
I guess I don't think about it very often since I've always really been into 40k, but trying to look at it from an outsiders perspective, I can totally see how it would be really hard to tell just what the fuck you're looking at lol. It's interesting though to hear what this all looks like to someone who has no history with 40k. For example, they say they didn't see the execution of the possessed inquisitor coming, but fans knew from the second they saw the two marines flanking him on either side that they were there just in case exactly that happened. And there are a lot of tropes that are subverted in 40k too. From a filmmaking perspective, you'd think the big scary looking armored dudes are the invading bad guys beating up on the less well-equipped little man. That's how these sci-fi situations always play out, and that's the pattern that these guys were seeing. But you catch up on a bit of lore, and suddenly you go from being suspicious and fearful of these hulking killing machines and start chanting "I CAN'T CUM UNLESS THESE HERETICS GET FUCKING PURGED." And they see the psykers and all the warp shenanigans as spooky, mysterious stuff, but most 40k lovers probably just think "the horrid rape of reality by eldritch forces of extra-dimensional madness? Is it Tuesday already?"
Loved the reading that the existence of Space Marines (Astartes) is a life of cyclical warfare. In a sense you're actually not far off, its a perceptive reading. The 41 millennium is a stagnated, totalitarian future realm of endless warfare. Where for every occurred victory there's often a profound cataclysmic loss tied to it in one way or other, continuing the cycle.
I think they were being more literal with a cycle, rather than your standard platitude of "cycle of hate/violence" expression, since he was referring to the few seconds of flashes. In reality, it was just showing a couple other chapters of space marines
i have watched the astartes series many times and it has to be one of the greatest if not the greatest scifi short film ever created and definitely the best warhammer 40k one ever. this guy basically set a standard. if you cant give this level of production with a team. just don't waste everyone's time.
In the story, the Astartes have 13 more organs than a human. Including an additional heart, lung, specialized organs to increase healing dramatically, and "The Black Carapace" which is implanted under the skin and allows interface with those big armored suits. The Carapace also acts as a secondary layer or armor.
the giant gold colored statue was likely a "Man of Iron". they were robots of war that gained sentience and nearly wiped out humanity in the entire universe.
Note: the version you watched had a different soundtrack to it than the original. You watched the Games Workshop version, they basically changed all the music so they could put their name on it after hiring the guy who made it (also shelved all his projects he was working on at that time pretty fucked to be honest) the original can be found on TH-cam as a compilation of the 1-5 pieces by a few channels.
All made by 1 guy, no real humans appear anywhere in it. They're called Astartes because the genetic Engineer that created the first of them has the last name Astarte.
@@ordakhan631 every "human" is a 3d rendering, that's just how good this guy is at animation. (Yes even the rebels, even the loyalist crew at the beginning).
Coincidently the term also means "Those who conquer the stars" The Genetic engineer was named Astarte, but it was a group effort led by the Emperor of Mankind and a whole lab full of Geneticists.
They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines such that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.
In the Warhammer Universe they use what is called High Gothic......but it mirrors a lot of Latin.....So the Actual name of this group is the Adeptus Astartes..... This is Latin.... adeptus (Latin) Origin & history Perfect participle of adipīscor But basically Adeptus Astartes are Perfect Cleansers.....but otherwise known as Space Marines.....
I like how the Space Marine who took the anti-tank round to the face still has the dent in his helmet in the later shots. Oh and btw, 'Astartes' refers to the Adeptus Astartes (commonly known as Space Marines, and colloquially as Angels of Death), which are one of the most elite and feared fighting forces in the Imperium of Man.
By the way "Astartes" probably comes from the name of the antic godess Astarte who is a kind of bellicist Godess. She has been adored from the bronze age to antic Grece though her name changed sometimes (She is known as Tanit in Carthage, I guess that name is known by the fans as well). As Monotheist turned former gods into angels or demons Astarte became Astaroth, another name for the devil. Wich fairly suits the transformation from Godlike creature of the emperor to Chaos space Marines I reckon. ^^
The Bolters which the Space Marines use as their standard weapon fires a .75 calibre(caliber) explosive round. The Heavy Bolter fires a 1.00 calibre round.
Ah-Star-Tees As for the end, for lore reasons Space Marines are separated into Chapters. Each Chapter has its own colors, its own history, its own culture within the Imperium of Man. Each of them will gladly lay down their lives to bring another day of survival for mankind.
The flashes of diffrent guys at the end was diffrent chapters of diffrent soldiers of the imperium in the dark fictional universe that is warhammer 40k
The Warhmmer 40k lore is amazing. I've read a dozen novels on it so far. This animation is incredible. Astartes is short for Adeptus Astartes. It's the technical term for the Space Marines in the lore.
The term Astartes is actually older, as the Adeptus Astartes is the second iteration of the Space Marines. Before they were split up into smaller chapters (about 1000 Marines) as the Adeptus Astartes, the were organized in way bigger legions (not sure if they ever gave proper numbers, but the legions were organized in chapters with some having more than 100 chapters, though these might have been smaller) as the Legiones Astartes. As for Astartes itself, apparently it literally refers to a person called Astarte who was instrumental in creating them, making them her, Astarte's creation almost as much as the Emperor's.
It's literally named after an ancient goddess of war, hunting and royalty. The idea that it translates to "Warrior of the stars" is just GW being GW. Warrior of the stars, marine of space. It's almost as bad as Land Raiders and Land Speeders being named after Arkhan Land, instead of just being a logical term. They were supposedly called Land's Raider and Land's Speeder initially.
@@joost1120 well to your credit, Yes I know it's also originally the name of a real historical deity But to my understanding, Astartes is still capable of literally translating into its prefix and suffix, 'Astar' (Which from Latin/Greek literally means Star) and 'tes' (Which I'm fairly sure was also a Latin/Greek suffix addendumed to the names of caders of soldiers or sellswords of the time) So at the very least you can Directly translate its Latin/Greek root meanings to be "Star Warriors" or "Warriors of the Stars" Also, I'm getting out of my depth but I think the suffix 'Tes' could be used in certain cases to denote a position of authority or command, Hence its use in the name of the ancient Goddess. This could lend itself to the idea of a higher Warriors/soldiers position, like that of a general/conqueror like Alexander the Great, And considering the Astartes are in all Name, Rank and pure physical stature, far above and removed from the rest of Mankind, that it might not be too much of a stretch to see it could be loosely interpreted to connotate Power over others, or their environment, hence Conquerors Again though, that last bit is my speculation based on what is known
@@Jaydinskee The Latin word for star is Stella, not astar. Astar doesn't mean anything in Latin. It is an English word, a synonym for Spangled or Sparkling, but that's it. The word Aster does exist in Greek, but it simply refers to any celestial body. The -tes suffix is not related to a warrior in any way. It is simply the plural nominative, indicating that it is the subject in that sentence. Remember that they are not called the Astartes. They are called the Adeptus Astartes. Adeptus is a Latin singular nominative meaning Obtained. You could argue that it is a grammarless mix of Latin and Greek, with a spelling error, and that it means 'Obtained Stars'. It makes more sense that they are just the Adepts of the goddess Astarte.
Welcome to the 40K. Put your coat on. It's gonna be a rough ride. If you are interested in something bigger, story driven, I suggest Helsreach. If you are here for the breathtaking visuals (and sound effects), then check Death of Hope (It's story driven too but there's just one vid yet).
Now the real scary thing is those guys with the psychic powers { anyone one human or alien with psychic abilities are called Psykers in the setting} are actually low tier. In one of the books a psyker gets his revenge when he is being fatally drained of his power by reaching into the depths of the planet and destabilising its core leading to mass earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and this was with the device draining limiting him. Oh and there is chapter of Astartes that are all Psykers - so they are not only 8ft genetic altered superhumans in powered armour armed with guns that fire .75 Cal explosion tipped mini rockets but each one can bend reality with their minds { a chapter is 1000 Astartes at full strength}
If you hear closely the "priest" tells them to get the fuck out, then the big cape dude tells a marine to go to the command center and warn them "GET THEM OUT OF THERE" Then you can hear it a bit in the space marine's helmet. "GET OUT OF HERE, NOW" Also, considering you're probably hearing the coms in the helmets, you can now understand how fucking loud the mantra the "priest" sang to try to protect himself. Basically the ball converted the priest and if he was allowed to he could kill 200 Astartes and eventually the entire planet/ship
@@adrammelech6323 not necessarily; the Immaterium is full of many many different beings, all jockeying for power, and it's possible that whatever had grabbed them was whacked by the daemonic equivalent of a drive by.

Astartes are the Space Marines, they are the Imperium of Man's super soldiers. The Psykers are the servants of chaos. The Space Marines were doing their job. One Space Marine Fireteam can turn the tide of an entire campaign. The different armor colors signify different Space Marine Chapters, the team you follow through the shorts are clearly a unique chapter that he probably designed, the ones in white were cannon though I can't quite remember their Chapter's name.
Astarte/Ashtoreth is the Queen of Heaven to whom the Canaanites burned offerings and poured libations (Jeremiah 44). Astarte, goddess of war and sexual love, shared so many qualities with her sister, Anath, that they may originally have been seen as a single deity. “Astartes,” literally means “of Astarte.” That’s the normal plebeian definition - I don’t know the Warhammer 40k definition.
You got the pronunciation right. It comes from the mesopotamian goddess Ishtar, known as Astarte in greek, a goddess of Unending War, later of love, sex and fertility. Legiones Astartes can be interpreted as High Gothic for Legions of Warriors of Unending War, or Adeptus Astartes as Expert Warriors (Adept is Peritus in Latin, but the High Gothic is more of a hammy, absurd but cool sounding variation of it)
Though everyone calls them Space Marines in Low Gothic (english, spanish, chinese, french and every other human language. Think of Classical Latin and Vulgar Latin)
The biggest middle finger to logic and reason but if you actually consider it, direct assaults can be devastating, where you have more armor than a tank and the fire powers or a 20 mm cannon, imagine a taliban base where out of nowhere a metal tube drops out of nowhere and these demigods charge into your positions whilst terminators appears out of thin air as they perform a teleportation assault armed with an a10 on their wrists
The Adeptus Astarte refer to the space marines. Adeptus, latin for “obtained”, and Astartes, an Egyptian god of war, effectively means “have obtained war”.

What I love about the Marines is the sense of just how unstoppable they are. After the fight with the Psykers, a group of humans would have taken a few moments to regroup, recover and check wounded. The Space Marines barely even break step. Enemy dead, back on task, immediately.
Well, they are humans, just very VERY advanced humans.
@@pickle4422 After the genetic, surgical, and bionic upgrades......are they still human? I would call them post human.
@@RiflemanTV Transhuman is the word they use in-universe.
They're still human but with very advanced capabilities.
@@Mugthraka it does seem very strange that, if that were the case, the actual inquisitor was nowhere to be seen to oversee the procedure
Another thing you should mention is that human pyskers are especially potent and a single untrained, unbound individual can easily dominate a solar system's worth of beings with their mind on top of all of the demon-bait shenanigans if they develop unnoticed.
There are several levels of power for psykers and I’m pretty sure that’s one of the highest lvls of power for a human psyker.

@@SgtSplatter782 And that whoever is in charge doesn't go full Exterminatus first.
@@robertschumacher2707 Amen, brother! ;)

Notes
pronounced A-Start-Eez, they are sort of the grandchildren of the God Emperor of Mankind. Now, 10,000 years later The God Emperor of Mankind sits on The Golden Throne, a machine that amplifies and helps control his minds power while trying to keep his body healthy (it has long been slowly breaking down)
Of Mankind the strongest being is The God Emperor of Mankind, next being his Primarch "children" (some are dead and some are Daemon Princes in The Warp), then come the Custodes, the emperors personal bodyguard, then the short lived Thunder Warriors who were used to take back Earth (terra) from techno barbarians.
(that big statue)
When the chips were down, the captured one tried to possess the one psychic (“Psyker” in setting) that was eavesdropping and shit did not go as planned because the two astartes did what you’re supposed to do the SECOND a psyker looks like they’ve been possessed by something.

But you catch up on a bit of lore, and suddenly you go from being suspicious and fearful of these hulking killing machines and start chanting "I CAN'T CUM UNLESS THESE HERETICS GET FUCKING PURGED."
And they see the psykers and all the warp shenanigans as spooky, mysterious stuff, but most 40k lovers probably just think "the horrid rape of reality by eldritch forces of extra-dimensional madness? Is it Tuesday already?"
"Pokeball" - Actually pretty accurate description tbh
in the Warhammer universe you ask who is to good guys and who the bad guys the answer is :YES
"The Emperor Protects!"
Astartes was one of those masterpieces that I regret just watching out of nowhere, once I started I couldn't get out until I've seen the end.
Losing an arm is legit not a big deal to an Astartes. He'll probably replace it with a power fist, chain sword, or possibly something bigger.
Just so you know.
There are no "good guys" in 40k. There are shades of black to dark grey, thats it.
Games Workshop (The owners of Warhammer 40k) picked up this project and made it official!
Astartes(Ah-star-teas) is High Gothic(basically the 40k version of Latin) for Space Marines.
the giant gold colored statue was likely a "Man of Iron". they were robots of war that gained sentience and nearly wiped out humanity in the entire universe.
Aa-star(roll the R) -tes
Guys: is there a side that you root for?
warhammer 40k:
well yes..... but no.
Welcome to the Grimdark Universe, Gentlemen!
Once you go down the 40k rabbit hole there is no coming back.
the Space Marines, also known as the Adeptus Astartes, are superhuman warrior-monks who fight for the Imperium of Man.
All made by 1 guy, no real humans appear anywhere in it.
They're called Astartes because the genetic Engineer that created the first of them has the last name Astarte.
What about the rebel guardsmen that astartes killed?
@@ordakhan631 every "human" is a 3d rendering, that's just how good this guy is at animation. (Yes even the rebels, even the loyalist crew at the beginning).
He thought you meant there were no humans in the animation, not the rendering
@@steel8231 Awe
Coincidently the term also means "Those who conquer the stars"
The Genetic engineer was named Astarte, but it was a group effort led by the Emperor of Mankind and a whole lab full of Geneticists.
This is Latin....
adeptus (Latin)
Origin & history
Perfect participle of adipīscor
But basically Adeptus Astartes are Perfect Cleansers.....but otherwise known as Space Marines.....
The power level in 40k is too damn high!
And we love it!
"Maybe their helmet muffles the sound"
Guys, they are in space. The abscence of matter is what muffles the sound =)
Its a boarding torpedo. The first ship was a scout. Orbs were defensive turrets to protect the torpedo with the boarding crew.
Ah-Star-Tees
As for the end, for lore reasons Space Marines are separated into Chapters.
I love how the guy in the plaid is actually cooing by the end of the phyker fight. This is men’s fifty shades low key 😂
Fun fact : this whole animation project was done by a single guy
Astartes loosely translates to : "Warriors of the Stars." or "The One's to Conquer the Stars."
And coincidentally the woman who helped The Emperor make them is named Astarte....Amar Astarte. She's a perpetual.
@@AJZulu Astarte is also the name of the Mesopotamian Goddess of Love, War and the planet Venus, also called Ishtar
@@joost1120 well to your credit, Yes I know it's also originally the name of a real historical deity
But to my understanding, Astartes is still capable of literally translating into its prefix and suffix, 'Astar' (Which from Latin/Greek literally means Star) and 'tes' (Which I'm fairly sure was also a Latin/Greek suffix addendumed to the names of caders of soldiers or sellswords of the time)
So at the very least you can Directly translate its Latin/Greek root meanings to be "Star Warriors" or "Warriors of the Stars"
Also, I'm getting out of my depth but I think the suffix 'Tes' could be used in certain cases to denote a position of authority or command, Hence its use in the name of the ancient Goddess. This could lend itself to the idea of a higher Warriors/soldiers position, like that of a general/conqueror like Alexander the Great, And considering the Astartes are in all Name, Rank and pure physical stature, far above and removed from the rest of Mankind, that it might not be too much of a stretch to see it could be loosely interpreted to connotate Power over others, or their environment, hence Conquerors
Again though, that last bit is my speculation based on what is known
"Like...is there a side you're rooting for?"
*The Inquisition has entered the chat.*
Check out the animations done by SODAZ, he's come a long way and deserves some more spotlight.
Now the real scary thing is those guys with the psychic powers { anyone one human or alien with psychic abilities are called Psykers in the setting} are actually low tier. In one of the books a psyker gets his revenge when he is being fatally drained of his power by reaching into the depths of the planet and destabilising its core leading to mass earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and this was with the device draining limiting him. Oh and there is chapter of Astartes that are all Psykers - so they are not only 8ft genetic altered superhumans in powered armour armed with guns that fire .75 Cal explosion tipped mini rockets but each one can bend reality with their minds { a chapter is 1000 Astartes at full strength}
If you hear closely the "priest" tells them to get the fuck out, then the big cape dude tells a marine to go to the command center and warn them "GET THEM OUT OF THERE"
Then you can hear it a bit in the space marine's helmet. "GET OUT OF HERE, NOW"
Also, considering you're probably hearing the coms in the helmets, you can now understand how fucking loud the mantra the "priest" sang to try to protect himself.
Basically the ball converted the priest and if he was allowed to he could kill 200 Astartes and eventually the entire planet/ship
Honestly these two were the best
You know what suck is the Astartes Project was taken down off of TH-cam
I was there when Warhammer Attacked The Fan Films

@@FloofersFX oof my bad lmao I just noticed that
Did that orb containment dude yell Evryone get out of here through his helmet?
That black thing at the end that helped them after they got sucked inside the ball. Was that that inquisitor psyker or the Emperor himself?
I would say probably the inquisitor. But it could be the orb itself
@@nicoaicher7864 the orb is a monster itself something black protected them from it.
@@adrammelech6323 not necessarily; the Immaterium is full of many many different beings, all jockeying for power, and it's possible that whatever had grabbed them was whacked by the daemonic equivalent of a drive by.
First rule of interpreting the warp: Don't interpret the warp.
Creator said that it was a warp beast that consumed the orb as it was in the warp. Warp is not a fun place to be in. Unless you are with Nurgle. Papa Nurgle makes everything better.
“Astartes,” literally means “of Astarte.”
That’s the normal plebeian definition - I don’t know the Warhammer 40k definition.
@13:59 Beakie's head whips around: "Smells like fuckin' heretic in here"
Amen. Burn the Heretic!
Saying "ASS TARTS" and then following up with "hey if you like what you see like and subscribe" might not be the perfect sequence to start off xD.
The Adeptus Astarte refer to the space marines. Adeptus, latin for “obtained”, and Astartes, an Egyptian god of war, effectively means “have obtained war”.
