  • oztooltalk review the innovative glide saw from Bosch. It's unique glide system reduces the depth and unwanted movement of traditional rail systems. But at what cost? We put the GCM 10 GDJ through it's paces and decide if it's a keeper.

    Bought one of these used from a guy that switched to a festool. Absolutely love it.

    Even in 2021 this is still hard to beat. I was super lucky to pick up one of the last 10" before they disappeared. I guess there was so little difference between it and the 12 they just stop bothering with the little brother, but the big one wouldn't have fit in the shop. Mine was 2nd hand, is now 6 years old and was flogged in a tradies shop before I picked it up and is still on its first set of brushes, and I have had zero complaints or issues. Only adjusted it once when I got it, hasn't moved since. For a tiny workshop, there is still nothing that comes close.

      Except for the above mentioned piece it does lack the laser. But still I intend to buy it in near future. It's just way more powerful and precise than some nice looking Makita LS1019L, for example.

    Cheers for posting this blokes. I bought the 12” for use at school and it’s been a damn good buy. Now I know there is a 10” version of this saw, I may have to off my Makita 10” and build a chop station for my personal workshop.

    The glide system is so good. I have the older 2 rails compound and it’s almost 600mm from fence to end if the tubes

    Great review guys - some serious molds and manufacturing chops must have been put in to create those moulds of the base and arms.
    Thanks for the review.

    I have this. I wish it had the laser that you get on the 12 inch model. Apart from that it’s almost perfect except for the dust extraction being not so great. The arm mechanism is amazing and I usually have it up against the wall on a bench. Its not really super portable since it’s heavy and awkward to move too far without a trolly.

    I’m a BIG fan of the dual-axial concept and with the accuracy this has been reported having the 12” would have been my first or second choice were I not specifically looking for cordless. Went with Makita’s 36V and am very happy with it, essentially still no deflection in the arm even without the axial glide type setup, probably still more accurate, better dust extraction, has a laser, can also be set direct against a wall, and has fast-adjust clamps. Only weakness in my mind is the aluminum detent plate that will have to be replaced every so often if I’m not massaging it properly. Ultimately yeah I like it more even if it was corded but still this Bosch is a very well-executed unit I would have loved to have.

      i think you are right. The 12" has the same body and base size anyway, I wish mine was a 12" ;)

    If I recall correctly, the 10" Makita 36V cordless miter saw is actually even more compact than this one.

    • @82camino96
      @82camino96 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NameNaameNameeNaamee I have the Makita and yes it is significantly more compact. The back of it particularly is much shorter than the Bosch. I love my Makita brushless miter saw. It really is a great saw and the dust collection is superior to any other that I’ve used.

    Is the detent pin on this saw made of plastic? And if it is how is it holding up as far as any side to side play when it's locked into the detent

    I recently bought the GCM12GDL and it won't cut a straight line as the blade is not parallel to the movement of the glide arm (hopefully Bosch come to the party and fix/replace it) Features are great I just got one that's a dud.

    • @zagan1
      @zagan1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      See if you can adjust it

    • @woodturnerjosh
      @woodturnerjosh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is no way to adjust the blade independently of the glide arm other than taking off the gearbox and trying to shim it (in other words not something you should have to do to a brand new saw)

    • @zagan1
      @zagan1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i agree, though in this video they say they haven't needed to adjust anything so far

      I dropped it off at the tool repair store this morning, hopefully it gets rectified. I've only done 20 test cuts setting everything up. If I wasn't needing accuracy for furniture I probably wouldn't have noticed.

      Some report this, but on my husband's he tested it on 3/4 in ply and solid wood at 12 in deep and cut it and then used a framing sq and held it up to the light and it was pefectly sq across the 12 in. Then he checked it in chop mode with narrow pieces 2 to 5 in, and it too was perfectly sq.
      Just take time to make sure all adjustments are sq etc, and the test it out, cause there is a 30 day return policy.
      Also, Take care that your test material is straight cause if it is , you will get a false reading from your sq. That is an easy mistake to make. Hopefully yours is just a lemon.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      petyt8 So you have the 12”?
      Why wouldn’t they give you the 10” ALSO !?

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I looked at the 12" in the shop recently. It's literally the same unit except for the Blade and the Blade Arm, so to me, I'd rather have the 12" since I already have all the weight and size. [Dwain]

    • @petyt8
      @petyt8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dwain as a 2nd fix joiner I found the 12” blades sometimes had blade deflections or wobble so went with the dewalt dws717 which is the 10” version! It does everything from putting up timber kits to fitting kitchens. On the uk bosch website they only offer you the 12” variant

      Patrick Scanlon I can tell you now in 9 years selling tools I never had a single Bosch drop saw back in for warranty or repair. Drop Saws in general had very few issues, especially considering the use and abuse they cop. This is a VERY solid tool.

    This saws dust collection and function is trash, don’t waste your money. Makita makes a much better all around saw. Or if you have the cash, Festool obviously.
