Another great rainy video. These are the best. Lovely food and a nice cosy set up. New Zealand lamb is lovely. Whenever I buy lamb chops I always go for the New Zealand ones. So much more flavour.
Yeah we have great lamb. I got to do salmon sometime on a camp we have delicious salmon also

Once again a great adventure! Seems like you always run into these little Wekas. The wife and I raise chickens and ducks. Seeing these little guys in your videos I had to do some research on them. Very interesting little bird! Always look forward to your videos. Thanks for taking us along.
They are far more aggressive then a chicken. The Weka have blood red eyes creepy
@@AbelandVictoria I was reading about them, they look very prehistoric. Is says they are Omnivorous, they do look a bit scary though with the red eyes.
They're very cute, intelligent and quite fearless, but you have to be careful as they will pinch any food or anything shiny they can get their beaks on. They'll grab it, scamper off into the bush - and you've pretty much lost it. OK on a short trip like this, but losing something important on a longer trip is a real problem.

Thanks. I’d like a dog maybe one day. It would limit where I can camp though as they are not allowed into national parks
@AbelandVictoria you can take a dog into a bunch of national parks, but they need to be kiwi trained, and you might have to have a hunting permit. Reminds me, my dog needs another refresher, lol.

I love the rain and foul weather videos because they convey a sense of survival and thriving no matter the situation. That being said, does it rain all the time there in New Zealand or is it just certain parts?
It rains a lot on the west coast of the South Island. Where I live it doesn’t actually rain that often but up in the hills frequently there is heavy rain

Another great camp Abel. Love those hiker huts. Maybe you need to invest in some ear protection plugs for those nights in storms so you can sleep. After all, you don't have any bears, mountain lions or any other nasties that are going to creep up on you and turn you into a meal. My God man, 480 grams is about a pound of lamb. And you managed 2 of them. Not surprised you had to have a little lay down to let that lot settle. That's about equivalent to a Christmas Dinner, and we all need a nap after eating that much. Of course we are wondering about Victoria and how the pregnancy is going. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I wish her well and I miss seeing her on the camps. And thanks mate for letting us know that you are not damaging the trees by cutting living trunks, clearing the dead wood in any forest is a good thing, so you are doing a good forest management service. I hope you received my Super Thanks Abel. I like to think I'm supporting the channel and particularly you on your camps. Looking forward to the next adventure. Stay safe my friend.
Hey I think some ear plugs are needed although I’m a bit paranoid about losing my hearing entirely. The burgers were to much. More food then the 6 pack hot dogs might need to tone it down next few camps lol but it’s good. Victoria is good she miss camping though. Thanks for the support it definitely helps me out. Cheers

Great spot mate, love the rain, gotta love a hut during that though! If I could drive my 80s to it! id be into it haha, my knees are to worn out to hump up to where ever that is, so I live vicariously through you guys, gott a get me one of those Zimbivy's though🤘
This was the easiest one I do but still 2 or so hours. Zenbivy is very comfortable
I love the cabin camps. Hopefully we will get a snow cabin camp.
There is a few options but they often busy with many others which makes filming to hard. I’ll try give it a go

The first thing I was going to ask was how’s Victoria doing and you answered right at the end of your video 😊so glad that she’s doing well. That amount of heavy constant rain was insane (as you put it). I did like that little cabin in the woods. It was quite nice and even insulated with that foil which is better than nothing. We have had a huge amount of rain over the past couple of weeks in Perth WA and I have been loving it as we really needed it and just like your camping trip it can turn sunny the next day and it’s a beautiful 23 here today. Do you have Continental Instant Cup of Soups in NZ as I think if you could like them as they would be just the trick to warm you up when you are so wet and tired. We like them and there are plenty of flavours to choose from. Anyway thanks again Abel for a great video, you did well under the circumstances of a very noisy cabin. 😊

Hi Abel, I back this comment. Good to see you discussing and demonstrating NZ hut etiquette in the final few minutes. Basic NZ hut etiquette is no boots worn inside so the hut stays dry and clean, and burners/stoves on the metal kitchen bench only because of the fire risk when using wooden surfaces. It would be good to see you promoting this, as you can positively influence viewers.
Looked like you needed a couple of beers and a couple of earplugs!

Stayed there in the middle of winter. Fire went out. I woke up frozen in the early hours. Pulled my head into my 17 below and pretended I was tropical. That didn't work. The coldest hut ever, untill I stayed at Moa Park.
I can imagine it would get nice and frosty in that clearing. I’m really sad there is no fire or bed bunks at moa park anymore
@@AbelandVictoria Mid-winter DOC job. I lit the fire at Moa Park. It drew cold air in through the windy gaps in the split beech cladding like a frosty breeze about my head. The fire made the hut into a freezer. The only piece of solid wall was the door.

I heat a small amount of water in the pan then add some dish soap. I use a small microfibres cloth to wipe pan out
