- 2 nights tent camping in the New Zealand mountains battling the elements. Heavy rain turns into a full on rain storm with strong winds. I am 81yrs now. Very tired of the pain, anxiety and negative I'm surrounded by. I will be returning Home soon and cant wait. My sweet dog, Izzy, is waiting for me, I'm very excited to see her. Love it guys !! I've been a camper since my childhood. Then many years in the Military. I truly love a good rain and thunder storm !! Outstanding sleeping at night !! BTW, our back packs weighed 85 pounds.. Victoria is a real trooper ! She would make SGT in the Military very quickly as a mountain scout !! I would highly recommend her !! HooAH ?

Oh my goodness, Victoria is really a trooper. All I could think about watching the rain pour down is how difficult basic bathroom activities must be. Being in the tent in that warm sleeping bag looked quite cozy. Loved your food choices. I was wishing you had a glove and maybe silicone tongs to make cooking a little easier. Had no idea you could roast pumpkin. Thank you for taking me along on your adventure.
Lol yes when the rain is coming in like that it does become rather challenging. The pumping was delicious going to try some potatoes next I think. Thanks for your comment 👍✌️

1. peel the potatoes, half them length wise and parboil. Season (I like Aromat) and roast them on your grid, either medium heat coals (raise the grid if the coals are too hot). You want nice crunchy dark brown, melt a bit of cheese on top.
2. Pretty much how you did the pumpkin. Best with smaller sized potatoes, sweet potatoes or onions. Prep at home: wash and stab the skin all over with a fork. rub in olive oil and season (salt, pepper and spices like thyme). wrap each potato in 2 layers on tinfoil, optional add some butter with the potato inside the tinfoil pocket. Once you got fire, they can go on your grid or in the ash next to your fire not on the coals otherwise the thin potato skin will burn immediately, turn regularly until soft.
To make your life easier upgrade your grid to small clamshell grid with fold out handle; you clamp the meat in the grid and just regularly turn the grid to prevent burning. With all the South Africans over there you will find in the South African physical shops or online stores.
Roast pumkin! So sweet and so creamy, you must try it! Leave the skin on and eat that too when you bake the chunks or a small hollowed out one.
Another great adventure for you both. I am sitting here in a warm house but shivering when I see the conditions you endure. Your camps are well thought out...good food, good protection from the weather but most importantly..warm and comfy bedding. Im afraid all those " survival" videos where someone digs a space under a tree and shivers through the night leave me cold!

Great videos. New Zealand has places that really need to be photographed, so the rest of the world can see the incredible beauty. I like your packs and tents. Try out an A frame tent sometime and see if ya like it. They are my favorite style tent. You're cooking up fantastic meals-- which is great to show the viewers that you do NOT have to eat dehydrated bags of slop when camping. You can eat good and really enjoy it. Nice to see 2 people in love camping. Love your style. Keep em coming,

@@AbelandVictoria , I think any 5 foot by 7 foot A frame tent would be very COOL for you guys to try out. They CAN be very light. It is SO easy to toss in a backpack something like the River Country A frame tent. Just cut tent poles from the forest. Your tent weights maybe 3 pounds.

Really impressed with that load lugging. My pack for three days, two nights including food and tent comes out at just about 10kg - around ½ what you were carrying. I still have luxuries including a chair.
That’s a manageable weight. Camera gear adds up the big Agnes tent not exactly light either and saw and that oven grill thing lol

There’s something very different about camping in the rain. Heavy rain is something else. I actually enjoy it even though it can be difficult and messy. As long as inside the tent is dry for the bedding and spare clothes it will be fine.

Sorry to hear about your camera amputation. For future reference : some tripods have a hook under the camera plate. Take a light mesh shopping bag with you, fill it with some rocks, and hang it under your tripod. It gets you a very stable setup.
PS I am surprised there is any usable firewood left at that spot... there are only a few trees there.
I’ll get it fixed. Insurance will cover it. Yeah my tripod has this I should have been more onto it. Oh well lesson learned. There was heaps of rotten bits on the ground that was reasonably dry after summer. There is still rather a lot there really. Most of the trees are dying it seem

What hearty meals! 2 swiss cheese burgers for one person and lots of bacon and 4 eggs for one person and multiple mugs of coffee and hot chocolate!

How beautiful is your terrain and that rain - it is like it has to rain as if there's no tomorrow. I can imagine on a clear day it would be so gorgeous to be up in those mountains and yes I do like your tent arrangements - looks so nice and inviting. travel well and get home safely

I really enjoyed the video. My favorites times when I use to hike is when there was a heavy rain. I visited New Zealand many years ago, but unfortunately I only saw the cities and not the mountains.

as good as burgers are, lamb cooked on a fire is absolutely amazing. lamb takes on the smoke and fire cooked flavour really well. give it a go. awesome video again.

New to your channel. Been living on a diet of AB camping and TOGR. Your vids are equally enjoyable but I often wish they were longer with more expansive gear opinions and fuller scenes that really make us believe we are with you in real time rather than warping through scenes at the pace you set. .. while I understand it’s a short format, I reckon you could in-fill with a longer scenes and still hold your audience captive.

Hmmm yeah. This camp would have been very very cold in winter. We would need warmer clothing to be sitting out. But yes I’m looking forward to freezing.
Young fella, you are blessed to have a lady who has your same interests, and does more than her 50%. I, too, have a great partner, and we are coming up on 60 years together in September this year. We do so much as a team, folks wonder if we're joined at the hip!! We haven't camped in a long time, but we do day trips galore, and of course, spoil ourselves at nice hotels. Take care and look after each other, hear???

There is a common problem when going camping Abel, that campfires can get very hot. I found the best thing is to take some long sleeve hardwear gloves. It's also preferable to take some long tongs, to use with whatever BBQ you're having

@@AbelandVictoria that little beauty is Meuller Tarn. If I were you time it for the snow melt so you get more water in the tarn. When it’s full there is even a little island.

Love the video you guys were really funny a good double act in the storm. I use the MSR whisperlite which handles those conditions really well using no extra fuel.
Yeah the pocket rocket struggles in the wind. I want a more stable burner with a wider flame.
Top tip, instead of salting the steaks try MSG'ing the steaks. You'll thank me later!
