    Thanks so much, your comment helps. I have kind of figured that the A3,000 had the same internal is, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks. Also, I kind of knew that it could not do it, however, I wanted to make sure.

    Hi, for someone who's familiar with this specific keyboard, I hope you can help me figure out why in ACMP mode, all of the chords to the LEFT hand, the bass is set to C like these: F/C, D/C, A/C, C#m/C. Meaning all the bass sound is stuck in C. Of course the music I'm playing sound's way OFF. Is this an error that just develop, or there's something to reset this?

    Using a USB stick, all you have to do to use a new style is just press a button or two.This is near instantaneous. Also, some of us are no longer driving vans to get around. A 76 or 88 key keyboard is not only impractical, but impossible to load around.I have all I can do to load my S770 in it's hard case, with my stand, cables,a couple of external speakers for a larger gig, and bench into the back of my Ford Escape and take a couple of friends to a gig with me. I won't be going back to using an oversized vehicle. I would have loved a larger set of speakers and a touch screen. The SA voices can be expanded easily by simply buying expansion packs, not necessarily using near-eastern, middle-eastern music. I would have also loved an SA set button or two. I really believe that the S975/S775 were just released as so happy measures till the Fall NAMM show 2019. I'd have loved to have had a hidden slot for a USB stick so that you don't have to remove the stick every time you break down your setup after a gig.

    It comes down to one question
    Does the additions = price
    It's kinda like a $350 acoustic guitar and a $7,000 guitar
    You may get a better looking and sounding guitar but does the increase in quality = the price
    The answers to these questions are NO

  • @coolingaid1

    One can not compare based on the specs only. The sound quality is different. Each version, like the S950, S970, S975 has different sound if you can hear carefully. For example, if you edit a style in S950 and add different OTS voice for each session A, B, C and D. When you play in different keyboard, the outcome is different. I'm sorry to say, according to my opinion S770 and S970 produce the worst outcome. When you play S975, it just so elegant, real, plus if you play some of Genos styles. I don't know why in US the price is higher than in Asia. The S775 and S975 produce the best sound so far (for PSR)

    What an excellent and thoughtful comparison between the PSR 970 and 975. The 975 is obviously an "interim" product with little more to offer until they release the PSR S980 or whatever they will call the next model range. Thanks for your obvious insight and valuable "unvarnished" opinions. Please keep up the good work.

    Hi Jeremy. Which one will you choose and why ? Psr s975 or psr a3000. I wanted to buy the a3000 cuz of the oriental voices but i realized the s975 has around 1600 voices versus the a3000 which has 997 voices. That’s alot of voice i’ll be missing. Is there anything else besides the voices ? Let me know, Thank you

    I really don't like when I see Yamaha decides to include unusable expansion packs and charge more money for them. I am a middle eastern but I don't use my keyboard much for middle eastern music. I play lots of blues, jazz, and little bit of classic rock.
    In my opinion, Yamaha should differentiate between the west and the east in their instruments like what Korg do. Simply release an oriental instrument for the ME and western instrument for the west and europe. Yamaha clearly did that with A3000 so why are they bothering to include oriental voices in S975?

    Do you think that the boomy sound is the case resonating? Do you think that sticking some weights or Dynamat to the bottom of the case might help? 30W of power is actually a lot for the size of the case, and large areas of unsupported case could resonate a lot.

  • @GuyNoirxyz

    There is one big difference that makes the S975 (or S775) stand out for me: SongBook+ will allow users to send "program change" messages from an iPad to those keyboards OR from the keyboards to iPad. With the S970 and S770 SongBook+ will only allow orders to be sent from the keyboard TO the iPad (such as calling up a chord & lyrics pdf that is linked to a given registration). This makes me prefer the S775 or S975.

      @@genesisandcarlo7133 Easy answer. Check both at keyboard Magazine. Read the Conclusions. You will find your answer. If you do not 'need' an arranger...then get what you need? As a performer either will work but you will have to spend time knowing how to work each. These are at least $3000 boards so be sure. As a performer and exploratory studio musician that has to do 'deep editing' the workstation the ONLY great choice. The arranger is for a musician who specifically needs a full [instant] ] band backing back board but does not need to do any serious voice/rhythm editing. the arranger will not deep edit. if you do not know what deep editing is then you should get what you can afford. You play general gigs in a band then either will work. If you play solo then get the arranger.

    Much of what Yamaha has done with the S975 is to put in patch work additions to the S970. This was done because of the release of the Genos. Yamaha will, most likely, release a new flagship model to replace the S975 at NAMM 2019. I actually use an S770, but most of the instrumentation and styles used in the 975 can be downloaded from places such as PSR Tutorial for free. One of the things that I think we need to remember is that loading styles and voices into the memory from a PSR stick is nearly instantaneous. With few major exceptions, my S770 is just as powerful as the S975, and I'm waiting for the releases of the new models at the end of this year. One of the things I'm looking forward to Is the addition of touch screen input.

      This is a impossible to answer this for another person. Yamaha has very smooth and expressive voices and excellent rhythm arrangements. PA1000 has that great strength here too... but its sound-stage voice is different and wonderful too. Yours ears and experiences are different than any other persons. PA allows hugely more tweaking of it DSP parameters. This may/maynot be important to you. Decide what is the important attribute for you first [if you can]. If you are not familiar with either board then it will take several hours and a mentor to show you around. It may take days. If you are familiar with one and not the other you will save hours by avoiding the new [to you]. You could get lucky by auditioning both with the same [excellent ony] speakers system and magically know for sure in a few hours...if you got lucky. My suspicion is many folks will just be confused. There is so much on each board it is mind boggling. Personally I gravitate to the Yamaha's. This would be a mistake for others. Yet I am willing to spend hours on a PA.

    Hi Jeremy, interesting review. I suppose that with the Genos being not even one year old, Yamaha don’t want to spoil the Genos sales by putting on the market a new flagship for the PSR S series which would compete too directly with the Genos. This is probably why the upgrade from the PSR S960 to the PSR S975 was only incremental. The next upgrade in a few years (S980 or whatever) will probably have many more interesting new features. Hopefully the Revo drums will make their way to the PSR S980.

      That is why Yamaha should have trickled down more of the Tyros 5 technology since it is technically old tech and the GENOS has the real ground-breaking stuff.

    • @HubertEtAlice
      @HubertEtAlice 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeremy See Well from our standpoint as end users you are totally right, but if the PSR S975 had been a small Tyros 5 for a fraction of the price of the Genos, some people might have been tempted by the PSR S975/instead of the Genos. I think that Yamaha’s marketing strategy is to have the lower-end, middle of the range and higher-end line of keyboards well separated. So unfortunately I doubt that much of the Tyros 5 technology will trickle down to the next PSR S780/980 or whatever they will be called.
      What would be interesting, though, is if you could do a comparison between the PSR E463 and the S970 to show what the PSR S series has which the PSR E series hasn’t, like OTS, multipads etc., for instance by playing extracts of the same tunes on both keyboards.

    New keyboards are not made to be sold only to a previous model owner.
    They are made to be sold to new byers or to keyboardists they are still having an s900 or s910 or want to upgrade from an older s7xx series,or having an even older model etc.
    Upgrading every 3 years your keyboard whatever model or brand name that is,is not that usual after all.
    Was Tyros 5 so much better than the Tyros 4?
    Was the s970 so much better than the s950?
    Sorry my friend but Keyboards are not smartphones.

    Seems like we are never satisfied [myself included]. So my mindset has changed after owning two Tyros models T2 and T4. If I want it all I just have to spend it all I figured.Well. I was partially wrong. I went and bought the Genos. Guess what. I'm still not satisfied. I have the hammond SK-2 73. The Casio Wk-7600. Guess what. Each has its secrets. The $500 WK-7600 is just more fun to practice on. I can squeeze so much out of it. Tweaking the WK's acoustic pianos brought great results and I'm loving it's Leslie speed adjustability. .I lament greatly it has no 5 din MIDI ports. Headphones or GEN 2 15'' EONS bring it to life in a huge way. Very likely, your expectations will be extremely different. Something on each board is different. Either I wish I had this style or voice on that one or the other one. I have spend hours on each board. It was necessary. Brief auditions only confused me with uncertainty. Going into each board's menus [for hours] and applying the DSPs was when the outcomes and one's learning are enhanced. If one has this skill set down with the DSPs then there is a fair playing field to better audition any brand board [with a good headset or higher end 12-15''speakers only]. I have auditioned many other boards too. At some point doing so gets to be old. Well I was also impressed with an $800 Yamaha DGX 650 as an arranger and a Kawai ES110 as a piano board. If I could own just one board and carry weight did not matter it would have been the DGX 650 for general keybed feel and playability. Not the best limiting oneself to one board. So I do not have it. Yet I enjoy playing it till I drop. Again, Your journey will be different than mine. Wish everyone the best.

      Jeremy, Lamarcus the PSR A3000 and all the PSR S 670,770,775,970 / 975 CAN record Audio to a USB drive, and by the way, I recommend USB 3.0 drive, those can write and play flowlessly the Audio.....simply press USB (Right side of screen) you will see the similar tape cassete controls to record.....!!!

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I an referring to transmitting digital audio our via the USB to HOST port. The USB stick recording has ben around for a long time and isn't a good solution for us working with DAWs.
      The E363 & E463 can transmit audio via USB. It's ridiculous that even the GENOS cannot do this basic thing.

    • @arvacon
      @arvacon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeremySee E453 can transmit audio via usb too. I was also surprised that my s770 had not this future, but it seems the main hardware of S770-S970 and nowadays S775-S975 is the same and created before 2015, when the usb audio future came one year later, so that's why they lack this future.
      The upgrade of S775 and S975 is only at software (except of the memory chipset), so finally when you buy these models, it is like you buy a 2015 keyboard with minor changes.

    Nice video but I've a different opinion on some aspects.
    You are right, the upgrade is a smaller one.
    They reused the same machines to manufactor the keyboard. That's why there were no changes on the surface.
    Yamaha realized, that Audio styles are a dead end because they are expensive in production and unflexible in usage.
    That's why they invented the revo drums in Genos.
    Don't forget that even the S975 is only a mid range keyboard.
    I can't share your opinion on session & pro styles as well.
    Session styles will play notes that are not part of your chord.
    If you play chords like Cm7b5 it could sound completely wrong on it.
    Pro styles are much more precise & honest.
    Thank you for your video!

    Hi any new S series model like S990 or S1000 coming in 2019?

  • @fingerhorn4
    @fingerhorn4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just purchased a PSRS970 for much less than two thirds the price of a PSRS975 and there is no discernable difference between the two machines, apart from a very few additional Super Articulation voices and the controller position saves. The keys are exactly the same. The other controls are exactly the same. The piano sounds, which are the weak items in both, have not been updated. In 99% of functions they are the same. The S970 has some flaws but the control and potential for decent arrangements is excellent.
    The vast majority of PSR S series users hardly get even a quarter of the way in using the features to their potential. But if you can be bothered to get a little deeper the 970/975 afford incredibly fine control over sounds and at a fraction of the cost of the ridiculously over-priced CVP clavinovas which are essentially very heavy pieces of furniture with DISABLED control over the same sounds! For the price of one CVP705 you can buy a demo/used PSR S970 with infinite control over the same sounds and have enough cash left over to buy a very decent additional digital piano with 88 weighted keys as well, and STILL have change.
    The PSR S970 is now affordable if you can find one but the 975 much more expensive for almost no gain. So as this video confirms, a PSR S970, if you can find a discounted one, represents the best value to quality ratio of any PSR S machine.

      I've used this keyboard (970) for over three years for all types of gigs. My biggest gripe are the keys. They are so cheaply made it's very frustrating to play precisely. They have almost no weight and sounds often pop out. There are cheaper Yamaha with much better keys. Even budget CTK Casio's have better ones. I understand it would add weight to an already heavy keyboard, but really this is something to be looked at. People do play them after all!
      In terms of sounds the e piano's are sorely lacking. The P125 which is a full sized digital piano has a better Rhodes sound than the ones you get on the board. The are very outdated and I needed to add my own samples to get the keyboard usable in this area.
      To be fair the 970 has alot of strengths too. I do enjoy this keyboard as a performer and composer. I'll be keeping an eye out for a better and more comprehensive upgrade.
