    I’ve been working with MPCs since the 90s. Trust me, even experts get lost. I’m always finding new things on my MPC Live and Force. They are deep instruments to say the least.

      Where is the different between the MPC and Force??

  • @richcolour
    @richcolour ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks for this video, Freebeat! I got it working on firmware 2.11
    Some extra help:
    1) Plan on paper first. List all the notes that your drum machine's pads respond to, then draw the grid of 16 squares and write the notes in them
    2) In the Pad Perform screen, choose 'Custom' instead of 'Off' (for later firmware versions)
    3) External kit might use different octave numbers to the MPC. For example, Uno Drum requires one octave lower (select C1 instead of C2 etc)
    4) A# is represented by Bb, D# is represented by Eb
    5) MPC has a bug which can wrongly alter notes that you've previously set. The issue occurs when scrolling through the list of notes to choose for a pad. For example, you set PAD1 to C2. Then while setting PAD2 to D3 you have to scroll past C2 in the list. The MPC will revert PAD1 to something different because you (very briefly) set PAD2 to C2 during the scroll. The solution is to set all your pad's notes on the first attempt, then start again on first pad and check/adjust it, then the second and so on. It might require multiple run-throughs.
    6) When done, save the program ;)

    This work around unfortunately isn't able to be followed on the current public beta 3.4 - the new "Main Mode" doesn't have the same options in in the Pencil Icon and you only get access to "Custom" which doesn't accept the New Mapping

    I just spent 5 hours pulling my hair out trying to sync my pads with trigger/ velocity outputs in my endorphins shuttle control. I'd get a random note, and it would sound great in my rack with the velocity, but that's all. I think this is the solution, finally!

    I followed this exactly and my mpc won’t midi map to the volca. I have both firmware updated. Channels 7-16 don’t trigger anything and all pads will only trigger a single volca pad corresponding to channels 1-6. Also, I can’t hear the output when hitting the mpc pads, only when I play the volca itself. Help!

    Does anyone know if I have a MPC Live 2 and one external multitimbral synth if I can have two separate midi tracks using different patches? I've tried this and after I record the first patch on say midi program 1 and want to record the 2nd patch on say midi program 2 it changes the original patch to the new patch. As a work around current I'm just recording on patch into a audio track but that takes away the ability to change the cutoff,ASDR, envelope,etc...very frustrating

    Thanks a lot! I've been wondering about MIDI-Mapping recently, since I got a cable to connect with my e-piano. Had the same problem when trying it the other way round, using the piano to play my MPC sample chops, and the key mapping was all over the place. I would've never guessed to check the 16 Notes screen. So thanks for the struggle and pain of figuring it out for us ;).

    Thanks for sharing, man. I'm going through similar if not worse frustration :D On the latest MPC firmware, they've got rid of the 'Off' option in the Notes menu and now there's 'Custom' instead. Sounds cool, right? Well, I started to map notes to the pads (I'm controlling an old Machinedrum, which seems to be mapped to whole notes, so C1, D1, E1, F1 etc etc. It's all good mapping a couple of pads, but then when I map pad A3 to E1, it automatically remaps pad A2 to D#1, so I have to go back and re-remap pad A2, which remaps pad A3, so I have to re-remap pad A3. I get a couple more pads along and it's cool, but then it automatically keeps adding in sharp notes to pads I've already mapped, so I have to keep going back and re-re-re-mapping pads as the sharp notes keep shuffling themselves up the scale. Super annoying!
    Let me know if anyone's found a workaround. I've done 6 pads so far and had to remap them all like 5 times already! I guess I could remap the notes in the Machinedrum, but she's an old gal and I don't wanna piss her off 😄

    • @J1M0TEE
      @J1M0TEE ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Aha - I just found a lil trick to help in this mapping. I was selecting a pad to edit, then tapping in the Note field and using the jog wheel to scroll through to the note I wanted. I guess that each time it selected a note that was already mapped, even as I was just scrolling through to find the one that I wanted for that pad, it remapped the pads that already had that note to a different note, if that makes sense... To get around this, instead of using the wheel I double-tapped on the Note field and used the on-screen menu (sometimes needing to go back to select a different octave) to choose the note I wanted. Because I wasn't highlight other notes with the wheel, assigning a note to a pad didn't screw up all the other pads. Voila!
      I hope this lil tip can save someone else lots of frustration 😊

      @J1M0TEE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goddamnsam You’re welcome! I’m glad this is actually helping a few people 😊 I have a feeling that it’s not a bug, but just some janky UX, which seems to be par for the course with the MPC software.

    • @gab9099
      @gab9099 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@J1M0TEE I think I know why it changes the previous pad when setting the next, I think it is related to what the MPC pads key is set to CMaj, AMaj etc. and the key of the MIDI device, if they don’t match then the MPC will default to the step or half step. My question is can you save MIDI mappings or do you have to reset each time?

It still changes the already mapped channels, when i´m trying to map more. I can map few channels and then, when i map more, them previous mapped channels and them pads have changed to random order. It is so fucking annoying. Have to get this solved somehow..
