    Last night, one of my key pieces of live gear, the Roland SPD-SX, started to show signs of failure. Looking for a solution, I turned my attention to the MPC One. Can it live up to the massive hole in my setup left behind by the SPD-SX? Let's fine out! Enjoy the video :)

    Awesome. I want to get something inexpensive to let me record drums to my MPC One by playing with sticks, and in my searching, I found this video. Can't find an Alesis Trigger IO though, and even if I could, likely not the most cost-effective way to fulfil my needs. Really cool idea, though. I used to have a Roland kit, shoulda held onto it. Oh well, needed the money at the time!

    • @cresk
      @cresk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreeBeat for live situations I completely get it. For me though I always found the spd a bit wacky in terms of sampling and looping. And because of Roland’s notoriously slow firmware update strategy (if there happens to be one) I’m glad I got rid of it for a good price. The screwy note numbers is the MPC. Allegedly in the MPC DAW it's possible to change it but my expectation is it'll only be in the DAW, not standalone. I haven't tested this yet because I hadn't bothered installing the DAW so I need to find some time. If it doesn't fix it standalone I'll be deeply disappointed.

    The order of the pads is STUPID insane. It's like C# then C. Then it gets worse after that. That's a longtime MPC map thing. MPC Beats and MPC 2.0 is the same way. You have to manually change the map to chromatic, and it's always a hassle. Read about it-- it's really ridiculous. There is no logical order of the original MPC map, which they're still using almost 40 years later.

    Good stuff to know!
    Has anyone tried doing this similar concept but adding a click that is heard by the musician but not the listening audience?? 🤔🤔... I’ve wondered if sending click out the MPC One headphone output but not the main output was possible.

      If not, I’m guessing that syncing with an outside click is probably doable with the 5 pin midi out.

      @FreeBeat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly it doesn't look like you can route the click to the headphone out separately :-/

    You can cycle through up to 4 samples from each pad, ie midi note number. Each trigger pad that is assigned to a midi note can play the cycle of 4 sounds. The new update has a randomizer function.

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, being able to layer four sounds is great and can lead to even better dynamic playing!

      You can layer and cycle those layers also!

    To run this on a Usb power bank...search for myvolts ripcord 19v mpc on amazon. Its made for the mpc one! There are also other voltages for other devices.

      I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video but I'm looking for hardware solutions, so Logic or Ableton aren't really options for me.

      Two different products, logic is a pc application, mpc is a standalone all in one music production centre and dawless hardware solution.

    Just plug your spdx usb into the One and use it as pad controller, so much cleaner than the the Trigger io. I do it with my Alesis Strike Multipad into my force (also mpc x) it’s awesome.
