    EXCELLENT VIDEO. New subscriber right here.
    I hope you stick with the new edge. My stock 4.6 2V got changed out at 250,000 miles for a 5.4 swap. A 4V 5.4 from a Lincoln Navigator to be exact. It came stock with 300 hp and 355 tq. I did custom headers with off road X pipe and exhaust, Coyote Cobra Jet intake manifold, and some other goodies. It's a blast to drive but trust me when I say, NEVER DO A 5.4 SWAP. This motor is WAY TOO BIG for the new edge engine bay. The Coyote is what I should have installed.

      You know I understand wanting to be faster and everything but I like keeping everything original except for a few mods like intake and exhaust. I appreciate the older mustangs for what they were and I want to be able to look back while I still have it later and say I still have the original motor so. They may not have been the highest producing motor but I've heard ppl say it arguably is the best sounding mustang along with the original boss 302.

    This car is definitely a sleeper, from a outsider looking in it looks like a jazzed up GT but there is a wolf lurking under the hood. Now he definitely could of put some work into that 2V but if the short block (engine block + rotating assembly) is tired, it would make sense to just coyote swap it which is what he did, so congrats on the swap.

    I have a 2001 Mustang Roush Stage 1 that came with a 3.8L V6 engine so it's not fast at all. It's my first car so it means a lot to me. All my friends now own moderns muscle cars that have a lot of horsepower in them and since I didn't want to stay behind I was also thinking about getting a new 5.0 but since the car means a lot to me and I wanted to be different than everyone else in my area, I will be doing a 5.0 swap like this one too soon. Thank you for uploading this, it's the first 5.0 swap new edge Mustang video that I've seen with this much quality and detailed information about how it performs. You just gained a new subscriber!

    5.0 swapping a new edge is actually very easy it will bolt up right to the 4.6 mounts and if you have a 5 speed it will work with the 5 speed i do suggest getting it rebuilt and ull have to get a different flywheel and ull have to get the right wire harness and upgrade the clutch and ull have to re wire to make the cluster work and thats it alot easier then swapping say a Foxbody.

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sean H yea it would...but if you want to make that 2v pull the power of the coyote in na form it'll likely cost more than 10 grand and if you want it to be able to hold the amount of power a coyote is capable of holding it'll def cost over 10 grand by the time you fully build and forge the engine and install a trans that can hold the power and all the performance parts it would take to get stock coyote level power out of it. there's more to a coyote swap than just how much power it makes. you can make that power while getting even better fuel mpg than the stock 2v did and way more reliability and you can add a blower and make 600-700 whp on a stock engine a 2v isn't going to do that without a major overhaul and a bunch of performance parts that would up costing just as much if not more and the reliability would be lower and so would the mpg...the cool factor would also be lower

    • @MattB8030
      @MattB8030 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Or you can not destroy a piece of history and just enjoy the older cars for what they were. Just my opinion but once you go changing motors I personally dont consider it a new edge stang anymore.

    Nice clean New edge. I don't think it's a sleeper unless you assume every Mustang is stock. Regardless of what the OEM output of a specific era Mustang is, you can only assume you will beat it in a new Coyote if you assume it's stock. There are a TON of built motor, turbo, blower, and nitrous 2Vs out there that will easily walk away from a stock 11+ GT. Trust me, we've built a lot just from our one shop so they're out there. Anyway, about your 2V GT, have you considered just a 4V stroked to 5.0? They sound just as amazing as a Coyote albeit with a different tone, make similar power on motor, but wiTh this route your swap would be easier and you would be starting out with a fully built engine as opposed to paying all that money for a stock Coyote engine. The stock Coyotes are strong and can hold up to some decent power, but out in house 5.0 4Vs are rated to well over 1000HP and companies like MMR etc offer packages to go even beyond that. Just a thought as the speed "bug" usually doesn't die; for a while your Coyote swap will be "enough" but not forever! Lastly, any idea on the weight or ETs for that car? We haven't done any Coyote NE swaps yet but we've done a Foxbody. It's a 2013 engine with B302 intake, custom 4" intake arm, ARH longtubes, 3" X pipe back to bullets and turn downs, tuned on SCT. Basically a full bolt on Coyote in a 2680lb Fox chassis formerly setup for 10.50 bracket with a built pushrod engine. The bolt on stock Coyote setup put down 10.96 @ ~350ft DA and 78 degrees ambient air the first day at the strip. With more tire and a little shot of giggle gas the owner hopes to get a 10.0/9.9 slip before long.

Not sure if I can afford the Coyote swap as I am not able to do it myself & it is a pretty involved job to pay someone else to do it. But I have some time to think about it. I am kind of an all or nothing kind of person so I have a feeling I might go this route. I have no plans of selling my GT she is going to stay with me forever so I would get a lot of enjoyment out of my investment.

    Is this car a sleeper???? No!!!!
    it's hard to consider any Mustang, Corvette or any other car that is notorious for modifications a sleeper... However it is a nice upgrade to have a brand new motor with the increase horsepower... definitely makes a car more personalized to the owners personal likings....
    however before doing any type of modifications I seriously suggest that everyone thinks about what they're going to lose by doing this... if this is going to cost you $13,000 are you okay losing that money because if your vehicle was involved in an accident your auto policy will not cover that $13,000 motor I just put in... now you looking at trying to find a collector insurance company that will insure it and majority of them have limitations on its use and mileage that you can do... how are $13,000 doesn't sound like bad investment when you figure a new Mustang is 35 - 40k...

    • @DerekBaranProductions
      @DerekBaranProductions  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Jeffers it is insured.... every penny. And it was 13k for the swap itself. It was 13k to redo the WHOLE car with swap. Motor, exterior, paint etc

    • @dodgefreakingviper
      @dodgefreakingviper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DerekBaranProductions does he have collector Insurance on this??? because if he doesn't he's using Geico or any other major insurance company his motor is not included under the contract... the insurance company would only pay for the actual cash value of the car itself not any of the modifications that you do to the vehicle.

    • @DerekBaranProductions
      @DerekBaranProductions  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Jeffers I can't say how he got in insured... just know, it's insured under his normal insurance company

    • @dodgefreakingviper
      @dodgefreakingviper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DerekBaranProductions if it's insured under his regular auto policy as an FYI he's not covered for the full value of his car... his regular auto policy will not pay the actual cash value so for example they say the Mustangs worth $7,000 they don't take account his modifications IE the new motor... some insurance companies will provide a limited coverage up to $4,000 for modifications... however most insurance companies do not provide that coverage you have to have an endorsement... what your friend probably needs to do is look at getting an agreed value put on his vehicle and have a collectors insurance on that vehicle... otherwise if the vehicle is a total loss he will lose majority of the money he has invested in the vehicle and the same goes for you if you keep your blue mustang and do this modification.... I do not want to see you guys lose a lot of money if the vehicle ever becomes a total loss....

      Jeff Dilworth im actually not...these new engines today, sound too raspy for my taste. LS or coyote.....hemis sounds decent, and i think it has something to do with fire-ing order and how there designed today. the old 4.6 was a joke for horsepower but man they are one of the best sounding v8s.

    • @jeffdilworth648
      @jeffdilworth648 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrDulvalius69 you right on the wraspy part, both my friends have a 2v and a 4v both running open headers with long tubes. 4v is louder but more wraspy, both pretty ear piercing. i have racing vids on my channel.

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrDulvalius69 the old 4v sounded insane with borla stingers and offroad hpipe...get that exhaust and there won't be anything raspy about it and this coyote would sound just as good...even better, than the older 4v did in the new edge. alot of the newer stangs are raspy because people put raspy type exhausts on them...x pipes and straight through style mufflers like corsa extremes. run an hpipe if you want deep...the newer ones also have the mufflers after the axel instead of before and believe it or not that has a decent impact on sound. I know this comment is old but I wanted to clear that up. I'd love to have a coyote swapped new edge with long tubes off road hpipe and Borla stingers...it would be heavenly

    I like your review, But I need more info....I have a Satin Silver 03 Mustang GT/Cobra Project Car, It's paid for and it has over 136,000 miles. Now I live in California and I have to deal with the Smog Law out here. I was thinking of going with a 4.6L 4v S/C swap out of a 03 Cobra w 390HP and IRS, then the 5.0L Coyote engine came out...Well you Ford Guys/Gals know that the New 2015+ 5.0 Mustangs comes with 435HP Stock!!
    Well I found a Old Ford friend of mind and he has his own shop here in California and he told me that he can do the swap as well as get it to pass the smog check and get it Legally Certify 50 State Legal! Which is a good thing for me and so now I just have to Save my money!
    I like your friends Quad Exhaust System, is that a custom Cobra rear Bumper? I was thinking of doing something similar, either I was going to get a Saleen center exit Bumper and their Saleen center exhaust System to go with it or I was going to get a Cobra rear bumper and Custom make it into a center exhaust setup...well see.
    What size Wheels and Tires is your friend running on his 2001 Mustang GT? Also is your friend going to upgrade his 5sp. trans to a 6sp trans? Other wise Nice 5.0L Coyote swap and Nice Sound!...God Bless!

    • @DerekBaranProductions

      David J. Smith hey David, appreciate your feedback and yes go the coyote swap route. The bumper is a termi bumper that has been shaved (Bondo'd the cobra lettering) and for the quads he cut the rest of the bumper himself. I think he plans on upgrading the trans later on and the wheels and 18 in rock durbans with 275 I believe

    Seriously thinking about a Coyote/6 Sp swap into my 01 Zinc Yellow V6/auto. I've owned it since it was new and it is almost mint with 114K miles. I love this car, I get compliments on it every week. Always have. I want to do a engine/trans/suspension/and Cobra R Brembo brakes. It's time to get a luxury sedan for my wife and I when we're together, and this will be my mid-life crisis car. I also plan on doing something special with the interior like removing the rear seat, getting some Racing/touring seats and the one thing I have regretted not getting on the car in the first place… Cruise Control! LOL All together it would cost less than a decent preowned 2011 GT Premium. And I get to keep it another 17 years and beyond.

    + 3800 lbs. Im not bringing it up to correct you. I like this year model because of a strong sentimental value I had of it being my first performance car. It was cool that you underrated the weight difference of the new edge vs the S550 platform.

    How to save money and if your planning thise swap in life this is how an average worker does it beside a youtuber,
    1. A youtuber can upload vids per1xxx=$$$
    2. A average American can work from getting a check 1-2weeks from 2xx-$4xxx depending on the job
    3. Insurance cost, car cost, taxes, etc
    4. A base model mustang can be way cheaper than your gt model mustangs. Insurance on a v6 tend sto be $120-240 a month when your gt mustangs insurance tend to be $400-580 on insurance. Car notes can be extremely higher on a gt btw
    5. Buy a v6 mustang , dont sweat it ( all mustangs have same engine bays), u can drive the v6, dont worry about wasting money on engine parts if needed , a v6 gets more range that a gt, so more range = less gas money spent= less gas money spent = more left over change.
    6. Save up extra or left over money, till you reach your designated goal, swapping the4.6l 2v v8 in the 99-04 is like $3.2k, tranny swapping is another $500, u can always do a copart bid on a new coyote 2015 mustang and still have the needs to swap over in your 99-04, at the end of the swap your still oaying your cheaoer insurance for your " base model mustang" rather than paying more for a " gt model mustang",
    Remember, theres ways to still have run, still get the power and still get all the best needs
