    I love my 2017 5.0 but I do miss my 03 cobra....both fast cars but the 5.0 is smooth and deceivingly quick, the cobra was just violent....instant torque, pulled hard in any gear. I compare them to a trained fighter vs a streetfighter. The smoothness of the newer cars vs the brute force of the older cars. I think the 03 cobra is the best car ford has ever made, with the new gt350s being a close second

    Awesome video I love the SN95 body style from 94 to 98 especially the Cobra set up as the bumpers are different. That is a beautiful beast of a car and with that Coyote swapped in that is a car Ford should remake.

    I didn't realize you were in the VA area, personally I'm in Sterling close to the car meet at Dulles Landing (Dunkin Donuts on Saturdays). Watched one of your videos LONG ago with a neighbor's reaction to your Cobra. Watched the Q&A with you and your wife (and son) and you said to blow up the comments with questions.
    1. Papa Johns, Pizza Hut or Dominos?
    2. Chick Fil A milk shakes or Dairy Queen?
    3. Hobbies outside of vehicles? Being a father I assume you have to have some hobbies or relaxing activities with your son and wife.
    4. If you could pick up and travel to another city, country, etc for a week or two, where and why? Money not an option, just a general "what if" question.
    5. What is Hidden Valley Ranch really hiding from us?
    6. Frozen yogurt or Ice Cream?
    7. NASCAR, Formula 1, or NHRA?
    8. Favorite movie and/or TV genre? That is if you regularly watch TV/movies
    9. Favorite sports teams? NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB etc. once more assuming you watch sports
    I'm most interested in question 5 as I can't find an answer.
    Nice videos man, keep up the good work on your channel and build.

    Great video and a beautiful car. In my perfect dream world, the new Mustang dimensions and weight should be closer to the SN95 Cobra design, hovering around 3300-ish pounds and 180" long. Since 2005, the Mustangs have just started getting bigger and heavier, losing a lot of the Mustangs character in the process.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those old SN95 Mustangs are now starting to become collectable for people who want to build seriously fast 1/4 mile cars. Why? Because they're light and take mods well and you can get the basic car for a song.

    I have a 03 Mustang GT/Cobra Project and I am considering a 2015+ 5.0L Coyote engine swap or a 13/14 Shelby GT500 S/C 5.8L engine along with Fords New 6R80 Auto 6-sp trans with a custom paddle shift! Also I swapping out the SRA for a IRS and I am considering swapping out my 03 Interior for either the 13/14 Shelby GT500 complete interior with the Recaro seats or the 2015+ Mustang GT complete Interior with the Recaro seats or the power/heat/cool seats! Marquice Rowan I have a '97 and I kinda want to do the same. I'm planning on doing the head swap w the Terminator heads, the Mach 1 intake, different cams, etc, when the motor needs a rebuild. I kind of want to leave it naturally aspirated too.

    • @davenhla8195
      @davenhla8195 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I presume you have a 4V 4.6 Cobra then? The 96-early 2001 Cobras have aluminum blocks cast in Italy by Teksid. That block will hold up to 1200RWHP. The sky is the limit on building that engine. Of all the Cobra cars, the SN95 cars IMO are the ones to keep the original engine with and build it up. Even just sticking a Kenne Bell blower on the stock heads etc will make it into a monster, and would be a lot less $ too. Honestly a big chunk of the swap $ comes from switching to a T56(if you so choose) and getting a clutch/flywheel etc to hold the power. I own an Opal Frost 94 GT, and have been thinking about this swap. However, on my car with the old 5.0, I would require a new K member, and basically entire new drivetrain as my old T5 would cry and then explode the first time I punched the gas with a 400HP Coyote on it. So my future drivetrain is still up in the air because I am looking at more like $12K to do it right. At that point, I could probably swap a stroked 351W(408) into it for less money because I could keep the front end stock on the car. Honestly, the people looking to swap Coyotes in should be the 96-2004 GT cars where it is all win to do so for the $. Especially the anemic 96-98 GT's. You know really if you are thinking of spending the money on a swap, you could probably keep your Cobra stock and pick up a clean 97 GT for like 2500 bucks and swap that instead. IMO, I just can't wrap my head around removing such a unique engine as the Teksid Cobra motors are out of a limited production car.

    • @korbindallas8224
      @korbindallas8224 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Davenhla I see what you mean. Thanks for the info. Yeah I have a '97 Cobra with 23k original miles. Was thinking about upgrading the transmission in a rebuild, because I think the syncros are bad. It grinds when you try and shift too fast when cold. Some people are saying that the syncros are problematic in the '97's and that they will just go bad again, so on some level I'm contemplating just sticking a bad ass TKO in it. Not looking to do anything too crazy horsepower-wise. Would like to get it to at least 400 though naturally aspirated. I'm never planning on getting rid of it, so just trying to make some long-term plans for it. I've been searching TH-cam for several months trying to find the exhaust combo I like best. In terms of sound, the sweet spot for me is 1 3/4 long tube headers, high flow cats, off road H pipe, and some Flowmaster 40 originals. Not the best performing combo, but holy shit that sound is orgasmic 😍

    • @davenhla8195
      @davenhla8195 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TKO600 is stout, although the TKO's are a little notchy when you shift, but they can handle some hard power shifts with no problems. The new T56 Magnum shifts like butter, like the old T5's even, but cheapest one I found (new) was a little over $3k without any of the stuff needed for a swap, whereas a brand new TKO is like $2200. If you could find like a 03/04 Cobra T56 used on craigslist or something, I have seen them as low as $1300 there, but they sell really fast. That exaust set up with the flowmasters is solid, those 4V Cobra motors sound pretty wicked through Flowmasters. My old 5.0 I set up with a stainless Bassani offroad X pipe(stock manifolds for now) into a new old stock Borla stainless dual cat back. The Borla system I bought was designed when my 94 was new, and they don't make it anymore. It is not super loud, but it also isn't poppy at all, just pure old school mellow muscle. When I put the X pipe onto it too, it was like magic, I get this really angry sounding V8 roar, but it is muted just enough all the obnoxious "pop" is muffled out so it is just pure heaven. Exaust and gears should always be the first mods to those 90's Mustangs, best/$$ you can do, and most fun/$$ too. Man I love these older Mustangs, so much customization available for them.

    • @korbindallas8224
      @korbindallas8224 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Davenhla good to know about those transmissions, I'll have to keep an eye on those. Realistically if I could just get it to shift like my '08 Scion tC, then I would be pretty happy. I can really go through the gears fast on that car. Not so much on the Cobra. I've never power shifted. Am I missin out? Lol. Yeah at first I didn't like the X pipe sound, but since then I've heard some really nasty sounding ones and its definitely nice in its own way. I think that hollow, gurgling sound made a big imprint on my childhood or something, I think it sounds cooler than a Ferrari. Gears, yessir that's what I've heard. Was planning on going with the 3.73's, people seem to debate the shit out of that one, but it sounds like that's the sweet spot.

  • @andrestnt
    @andrestnt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    10 to 15k is the going rate, even cheaper if you get the motor used like an f150 engine. The hardest part is the wiring and you only have to use a KMember if you have a fox body, on 94-current mustangs its a bolt on since those came with 4.6L engines from the factory(coyotes have the same bolt pattern). K members do make everything easier and are cheap around 400dlls.

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I totally agree with getting an aftermarket K-member. The SN95s can use the factory K-member, but you would have to make changes to the oil pan, engine mounts, and depending on the headers, some won't even fit. MM and UPR are the most common.

    • @davenhla8195
      @davenhla8195 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      94/95 Mustang GT/Cobra had old 5.0's. They require a K member to swap no matter what. 96-up the factory one is good to go.

    381 WHEEL horsepower seems like more than enough. The best decision a Mustang owner can make is not listen to other mustang guys advice on areas of power and noise. Any more power for this stang would be vastly over compensating.

    This question may have already been asked but I failed to find it in the comments...how much did the entire swap cost you and did the shop do everything? I have a 98 gt with a seriously anemic 4.6 but I don't want to fork out the money for a newer mustang.

    only I don't like about the new 5.0 is the sound....my 4.6 3v just sounds soooo much better....running slp axle backs and high flow cats...the sound is amazing!!!! that's why I'll never do a swap...I rather just procharger my 4.6 and smoke the new 5.0 ....500hp at wheels is enough power for me.

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are good mechanically, minus the labor you can do all of it in 15k. I just explained to someone that swapping the engine has other tangibles, like new exhaust, new intake, whether you want power-steering and AC, etc. If you're really serious, call Power By The Hour to get all of what you need, and they can even provide you with guidance on what you'll need. I wish I called them first; could've saved me a bunch of dough.

    I love my 04 GT, planning a coyote swap myself. Is there a fix for the cluster so that it's useable? Or any aftermarket replacements? I almost thought it was swaped into a Termi Cobra, cause that one is VERY capable.

    Ok so forget the cost of the body but any idea the swap would be? I got two mustangs both have good bodies but my 97 has 209 and trans is gone anyway but I only have 10 I might be able to get 12k all in. Think I could get it done?

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the added transmission add another 3.5k just for parts. There are also other tangibles that people don't think of, like exhaust, power-steering, booster brakes (which your 97 should be compatible with). It all adds up. If you're doing it all yourself it can be done for 15k in parts.

    Hey man does your gauges work properly with that motor? I'm coyote swapping my 95 Cobra as well and I'm just worried about the gauges working normally lol

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be done, but it will be a headache, because the Ford Performance Control Pack is not plug/play with our gauges at all (94-95). A lot of re-wiring would have to be done, so I just went digital with AIM's MXS Strada dash, which hooks directly with the pack's CAN bus.

    • @TPMach1
      @TPMach1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reypadd damn that sounds like a lot of work but cool. I might just do what you did. Does that work properly and accurately? And how much did it cost if you mind me asking

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great. Very accurate, since it's reading straight from the PCM and displaying it digitally; no lag. It's probably overkill, but it has a lot more it can read and display. I just have mine display the speed, tach, coolant temp., gas, and mileage. It even has an optional GPS "track" capability (where you can download a road course and track your performance). It is a little pricey though, about $1k.

    • @JR306
      @JR306 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. F150 doesn't have a forged crank and has less aggressive cams. Lower compression too. But, if you plan on rebuilding one, finding one for cheap might be worth it. They seem to sell for much less than Mustang versions.

    • @Reypadd
      @Reypadd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're on a budget you may not have a choice, unless you find a wrecked 11-14 Mustang. The new ones for sale now are only gen-2 Coyotes that are now in the S550s, and it's $7,000. Here's a list of differences according to LMR: lmr.com/products/what-makes-a-coyote-f150-engine-different

    • @davenhla8195
      @davenhla8195 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do some research, you can swap the cams and a few electronic bits and make them almost identical, to the tune of within 5RWHP identical. Last I looked, the exaust cam(the one that you need to do) was sub $100. If you can get a low mile F150 Coyote for 1/4 the price of a new Ford crate one, that leave a whole lot of money to use for the rest of the project. I almost pulled the trigger on one my local salvage yard had, $1300 for a 2012 5.0 with 33k miles on it, but I am too strapped for cash for my house remodel right now to move on it. You can do a lot to a motor if you have a price diff. of like $5k.

    • @edwardssistershands
      @edwardssistershands 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you use the F150 that had the coyote engine.

    • @RRR-jd2oy
      @RRR-jd2oy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JR306 actually it does have the forged crank. only difference is .5 less compression, intake cams, and tune.
