THE GREATEST (Arrowhead) SHOW ON EARTH!!!!!!!

- Held annually on the first weekend in June at the Mayborn Civic Center in Temple, TX, the "Temple Show" as we call it here is a mecca for artifact collectors from all over the United States! You literally never know what you will see here, from woolly mammoth hair from Alaska to Neolithic points from the Sahara to mastodon teeth from the Arkansas river, not to mention artifacts from all over the Lone Star State! If you like arrowheads (or just cool old stuff in general!) at all, you need to add this event to your annual calendar.

that frame of true arrowheads really illustrates the differences in delicacy , size and thickness between what are the larger spearpoints / dart points and knives and points made for actual arrows shot from a bow, very cool and stark comparison
The term "arrowheads" does get thrown around awfully loosely, but true arrow points are unmistakable!

Sheesh, Mr. Harper's collection is unreal. The Roman swan is an amazing piece, too cool!
I'm really proud of the bronze swan, but yes, Dana has one of the finest private collections of artifacts in North America.
I started going to Central States Archeological Society Shows when I was still a teenager in the early 70's. The most gorgeous points and blades of the midwest, paleo points and birdstones, bannerstones etc. etc. I remember an immense flawless pink dovetail (very large and most likely ceremonial) that someone told me was already pre-sold for $500. I could not believe that anyone would pay $500 for an arrowhead. I'll bet there are people now who will pay even $800 for an arrowhead.
I've seen some points at the Temple show go for north of $40,000. It's crazy what people will pay for the finest pieces.
@@indianasmith8152 When people would pay $750 a ticket to see 'Hamilton' and twice that for Taylor Swift it sounds like a bargain.

Hello to you. I have had detectorists come on my site and complain they do not have the same history of finds that we get in England, but they never told me about all this incredible stuff. Absolutely fantastic. Did not know you collected Roman items. I have been lucky enough to find one or two Roman items in Lancashire, but other areas have more. A few coins, brooches and spindle whorls. Maybe the best item is a tiny bronze bull I recently found that might have been carried by a Roman soldier who was following the Mithras cult. The local museum want to take it. Best wishes to you.
Every area has different kinds of antiquities for those who will go out and find them! Texas is known for its wide variety and quality of Native American artifacts. But I love old stuff from all over the world, and my small collection of Roman stuff is something I'm quite proud of.
That was all mind-blowing but that Harper collection was truly something to behold. I'm going to my first show in August here in Tulsa and I'm so excited for it. Don't know if any of those displays will be there or not but I certainly hope so!
I've been to the Tulsa show a few times and it's a good one. You'll see some of the usual suspects from Temple there. Have fun!

I saw four very very tiny Creek Indian what people call bird points red chert black shiny flint gray flint and a very tiny quartz five point very tiny. I call them sairamoyle arrowhead points extremely small and I actually found one finish for rainbow trout in another state while on vacation north of the south eastern US but on the east coast
What most people call "arrowheads" were actually spear points, what most folks call "bird points" were true bow and arrow points. And what are often called "spearheads" were really flint knives!

Have to conclude that Native Americans were prolific tool-makers. Humans (in general) can be very impressive. When they want to be. Can we just ignore the unimpressive ones? The de-pressive ones? Hope so.
We all swim in the great river of time; some of us make a little bit more of a splash than others. Me, I just float along and enjoy the ride!

Believe it or not, most of the stuff offered for sale at Temple is real. All sellers are required to stand by their products, and there are usually two or three authenticators there.

No, there were many examples of hardstone, pottery, ornaments, and other artifacts there as well. Including several tables of perishable things recovered from dry climate regions.

@@chrisgrassi4161 once you find greater things and learn hidden knowledge, arrowheads are just pointy rocks ,but yes nice collection
The sad fact is a huge portion of artifacts on the open market are exceedingly convincing counterfeits. Nowadays it's so hard for me to trust collections of people I don't personally know, especially those who frequently buy and sell artifacts
It's sad but undeniable.
That being said, I Know how many amazing and authentic pieces there are and how intricate and elaborate and delicate they can be , it's just sad how many fakes are floating around
Very true, although I will say the truly high end collectors, like Harper and Miller, will throw a piece out in a heartbeat if they determine it to be fake. They truly want to own the best of the best ancient pieces.
