We've had light showers, but no rise on the river in over a month. So I wasn't really expecting much on this trip - but we wound up finding some awesome stuff! Artifacts and fossils (especially teeth!), and a beautiful day to be outside! The killer Wells point was the highlight of the day for me.

Wow my great friend, excellent day. Beautiful fossils, beautiful that long, contracted stem tip. I have always despised exploration in the dry streams that we have here, but without a doubt they must hide great surprises because they are a drag factor for everything they find in their path and deposit it later. @@indianasmith8152 well I usually go hunt with my mom (im under 18) but I'm sure we can go sometime in the future. Its always tricky finding a day that works for me and my family because of school and everything else. But I'm sure we can figure something out in the future!

Hey! I have a few questions.. 1. do you walk far? or do you mainly stay within 1 mile of walking distance from the river? 2. do you have any tips for finding arrowheads?? Me and my family have been dying to find one but we can never seem to. 3. do you have any suggestions for the rest of this month on days where it isn't too hot? My family and I have been really wanting to go but every day we try to go it seems to be too hot or it has rained so we are unable to go. I would REALLY appreciate if you answered these questions but if you cannot that's fine as well. If any other viewers have any answers to these questions, I would appreciate if you commented below. I spend pretty much all my time in the main river channel. As far as finding points, they are there, but not in great numbers. You have to learn what to look for. This time of year, I go early and get out early - this morning I was in the river before 8 and out by 12:30, and came out with a couple of points. After a rise is the best time to go. That one was nice and thin, too! Most blunted points are thick and beveled at the end for use as scrapers.

That was an unusual one. Normally they are beveled at the tip; this one was thin, just rounded.

It was a fun day to be out in nature, and the river was just absolutely beautiful! Clear water, not too much mud or algae coating the gravel, and best of all, NO footprints!

nice finds! I've only found one vertebrae (mosasaurus claudial vert) so far and I hope to find more someday! My mom just had shoulder surgery and I haven't been to the river in like 3 months. Hopefully I can go back out soon and maybe see you there! Happy hunting!!

Wow friend, it's incredible how you transport yourself to that place enjoying your river. Here we don't have anything that resembles that landscape. Stream runs only occur when it rains and within hours everything is dry again. A tip is very good. The fossils are also very interesting. BLESSINGS TO YOU FRIEND.

@@indianasmith8152right, I went to river right after I commented this morning, still here, just took a break to rest my back and try to catch a catfish, been slaying the bass all day, found some native pottery too, I skipped over a few gravel bars on the way in, gonna hit them on the way out, hopefully they’re holding something interesting, God Bless & GL&HH!!

I guess it's all a matter of perspective - You guys really struggle to find a whole point; I live in a part of Texas where I know I am going to get a point or two most every time I go - but most of them are scrappy Ogallala chert points under 2" long. Down where this dig was, average size is close to 3" and there were some perfect, big basetangs and Ensors coming out! I'll admit I was hoping for one of those. But it sure was fun to go! I hope we can get together for a hunt one of these days soon, either here or over where in SC. Sure would be a blast to meet up and move some rocks together.
