Great video, Matt. Cool to see you and Questy on the same vid. Some cool picks. I need to check out Disembowellment.( you showed it on our Relapse livestream last night as well). 🤘🍻
I'm presuming the Spanish band mentioned in the honourable mentions is Ataraxy but I couldn't find the album mentioned by them. A lot of good picks, cheers.
I thought Questy meant Ataraxy (from Spain), but the band / album in question is actually Ataraxie - Résignés (France, 2019). Cheers for watching, David! 🤘🏼
As an old prick and one who have heard those albums when they came out I must say I am super happy that young dudes get excited about old school!!! Great lists guys, Matt I can see that you are more into the heavy shit, and so much for Peaceville stuff. I can say though that on my list My Dying Bride would have to have its place. Either debut or Turn Loose the Swans were massive in early 90-ties and are must listen. Matt with your taste I believe you will find first EPs and debut from My Dying Bride more appealing than later (equally great but more accessible) stuff.
Appreciate the kind words! Old school is best! I can get along with the Peaceville bands as well, but yeah you’re definitely spot on with my general preferences. The less melody, and the more brutality the better for me!
As always Matt good stuff Personally I’m not having Autopsy as Death Doom. However that’s splitting hairs. Just like Incantation there’s some doom elements but it’s Death metal where you can hear elements of Doom. The subgenre developed as Doom with vocals of death metal but lyrically and stylistically very different. So you obviously nailed the classics in Disembowlment and Winter I’d add… Thergothon - Stream from the heavens Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise My dying bride - Turn loose the swans Dragged into Sunlight - Hatred of mankind Kaunis Kuolematon - Kylmä kaunis maailma
Interesting takes! I wouldn’t have Dragged Into Sunlight in there for the same reason. They walk the line and have elements, but they’re almost just Black/Death/Grind. Fucking amazing album regardless. I guess it depends how you listen to them. Autopsy to me are a Death Metal band, but Mental Funeral is a Death/Doom record to me if that makes sense? Cheers for watching mate! Appreciate it as always!
My absolute favourite Death Doom album is Domedon Doxomedon by Necros Christos. Nearly 2h of captivating music intertwined with interludes that are totally worth a listen.
Bands have used the style, for sure, however nobody has managed to replicate the production, hollowness and atmosphere quite like them. I feel the same about Winter

Yea. It's impossible to have listened to an album unless you were old enough when it came out. We're all impressed by how old you are dude.

rolllyyyy shieeeettttt the two legends in one video???
You know it, man! 😄🤘🏼
Would love to see you guys do blackened death in this format.
Glad you mentioned Anathema at the end there, Serenades would far and away be my number one.
Thanks for having me on the channel was a good laugh 🤘

Next one has to be a Funeral Doom 3-way with J-Dawg on the show too. 😆
