Lost Paradise is the foremost legend. Not Brave Murder Day, which is a whole 6 years AFTER Lost Paradise. Gothic & Lost Paradise, simply looking at the timeline, doesn't in any way deserve to be second to it, as phenomenal an album as BMD is. Additionally, Lost Paradise is NOT an EP, it is their first full length. Some sloppy research on yalls part, sorry. There were few other bands that were truly playing doom metal with a death metal coat atop it at the time. Autopsy is still largely fast, syncopated riffs with slowed down sections, as is Asphyx. Lost Paradise and the demos prior are among the first truly death-doom records ie balancing both genres. They mastered the style since '88, officially. Check out Paradise Lost - Live Death (1989) to see what a powerful live bunch they were even at the time. 'Gothic' took the Celtic Frost experimental approach of adding french horns and operatic female vocals to its logical end and solidified it as a style. Nick Holmes also had the most sonorous, spacious and enunciated death metal vocals of all time, IMO. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion should be the proto album, simply for songs like Dawn of Meggido or Necromantical Screams. Other lost essentials: Pyogenesis, Cryptophobism, Awakening, Sceptical Schizo, Rippikoulu, Solothus, Unholy
Yeah man...got to agree with Paradise Lost 'Lost Paradise' 1990 (a huge influence on a myriad of early 90s death metal era). Cryptophobism is cool and ultra-obscure!! Unholy (Fin) is a favorite of mine too. Early My Dying Bride, Decomposed, and even Cathedral 'Forest of Equilibrium' are all great death-doom pioneers.
@@Bzzuco1430 Actually, early Esoteric is more dark death metal sounding..l got to see Esoteric back 2013 in Chicago (absolutely mind-altering live band!!). Even hung out with guitarist/vocalist Greg before the show too (as he was counting tour money -ha). Great show!!
@@MaaZeus There's much more to Disembowelment than just 'funeral-doom' though...more like ambient death-doom. It's been a personal favorite death metal album of mine since the late summer of 1997 when I bought the cd brand new at a local record store (still have it too!!).
Nice shout out for Anhedonist, but I would definitely add Lycus to essential modern. And Pan.Thy.Monium could have a spot, but perhaps belong in the avant garde DM conversation.
People say Loss but that's funeral really. Say that say Mournful Congregation. What about Motion? Anybody say Motion? Shame if not even though Solidarity was 99 I guess. Great band. The Loss suggestion is questionable. When I heard their first songs, it was referenced as funeral/suicidal doom. It's heavy but didn't heart any overt death elements.
Loved this, Death/Doom is one of my favorite genres of metal. I just don't get the hype around Hooded Menace. Cool name and imagery, but the music is just OK.

You sir sure know your stuff. I also would've mentioned PL before any other band.
I came in looking for Paradise Lost. Very disappointed. You should have done the episode!
The Gathering - Always...
Death / DooM FTW 🙌🏻🤘🏻
What about Evoken, Esoteric, Mar de Grises, Desire?!?!?
Esoteric are mandatory
isnt that already funeral doom? just thinking
Im from Chile 🇨🇱 and in 2017 i got your album on CD from amazon lord of death. Excellent. Greetings
No Lacrimas Profundere ?!
Basically the whole discography of Desecrecy and you’re good with death doom
Damn, I never thought I’d see a video on death/doom. I LOVE Death/Doom so this is a very pleasant surprise
My Dying Bride is both legend and essential
Did someone mention Goatlord STG Demo?
Sempiternal Deathreign !!!
Unfortunate to not see Krypts for modern or Demigod or Rippikoulu for early. I feel like Finland could've really stacked this list
My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers is the essential album
Neolithic - For Destroy The Lament (1996)
Rapture's Futile would rank really high on my list of favorite death/doom albums.
Absolutely love that album but for me, Songs For the Withering is how I found out about them.
October Tide- Rain without end sounds like Katatonia because it was 2 guys from Katatonia
Crazy how Katatonia is goo doing any kind of music.
Mizmor and thou!!!! 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Sorry but the "Legend" album is Transcendence Into the Peripheral by Disembowelment.
Maybe it belongs more into Funeral Doom category? 🤔
@@MaaZeus There's much more to Disembowelment than just 'funeral-doom' though...more like ambient death-doom. It's been a personal favorite death metal album of mine since the late summer of 1997 when I bought the cd brand new at a local record store (still have it too!!).
Decibel hates on EP's too and I don't understand it. If it's a bands best material, then it's their best material.
Nice shout out for Anhedonist, but I would definitely add Lycus to essential modern. And Pan.Thy.Monium could have a spot, but perhaps belong in the avant garde DM conversation.
No mention of Morgion? 🤔
I swear I must have missed the discussion about Foreverglade before it got added to the board
THE legend, i.e. Cathedral's "Forest of Equilibrium" not even mentioned...?
Mystic Charm - Shadow of the unknown (NL)
Dying Truth! That is a standard album Anything Diemboilment. Sorrow
Just heard of them for the first time today! It's as heavy as Adele's turds! Can't stop listening!
What's band is that after Novembers doom?
Cianide
Anathema`s best is the 7" They Die/Crestfallen, not the Crestfallen EP.
Happy to hear Novembers Doom was mentioned but no Draconian?
I bought the original Into Darkness CD with the white tray on Future Shock back in 1991 or 1990 and still have it, bought a couple of reissues as well
No Anathema - Crestfallen EP? Leave the hall!
Solinary not Solitary. Think Relapse put it out. Good Album
No Primative Man? Maybe too Sludge and slow but I feel Caustic made a bit of an impact back in 17.
1:19:20 what album is this he mentioned?
Anhedonist - Netherwards
@@marcos54695 ah no wonder i couldn't find it. I looked up album title "Netherworlds" lol. Thank you!
@@doomusrlc I also looked up nether worlds, but as two words and added doom metal, and it showed up lol
I’d say Hail of Bullets qualifies as death doom
Temple of void is an essential?! You are way too nice with your guests
Well, they got me into death/doom
He called it - Anathema totally did boot someone from the band right before they started getting better (sorry, Darren White!).
So it's BLAYNETV now...
Spectral Voice’s album is amazing, don’t understand the shade to be honest
Warning - watching from a distance, one of the most important, highly regarded and influential bands to emerge from the '90s doom metal scene.
Im disappointed they didn’t mention saturnus at all.
They did.. they mentioned them as more of a pure doom band than a death/doom band.
No mention of Worm. boo....
Worm’s ‘Foreverglade’ is there on the bottom row
It must be slow at Banger if your using twitch streams instead of reviewing albums.
WHERE IS EVOKEN!? WTF IS THIS LIST!?
Saw Doom Metal got excited watched the video. So God damn disappointed I had to unsubscribe.. WTF
OK Dr grumbles…
No need to announce your departure.
