As far as rap goes, I mainly listen to NWA, Gravediggaz, and Nas, love that early to mid 90s sound (I know NWA is from the 80s, but i still wanted to mention them since my those are literally all i listen to in the genre of hip hop), been meaning to delve deeper into that era of Hip Hop for sometime now
Nas headlined a festival here in Finland in 2016 and I was sort of randomly there, one of the best rap performances i've seen. It was nearly 2 hours of basically his greatest hits, probably heard almost entirety of illmatic there. No backing track or anything just pure rap
Interesting idea, dude. I think that there's something creative and innovative that can or has been done with any genre of music. you've just gotta look hard enough. I dont know if youre into bands like Wire, The Fall, Gang of Four, bands like that, but def want to know. Hip Hop is a lot more diverse than i think you give it credit for. A lot of more mainstream stuff is not very good, but there's loads of underground artists cultivating unique sounds through lyricism, production, etc. Not all of its Boom Bap, which is the type of Hip Hop you seem to really enjoy, but yeah. Also, check out 6 Feet Deep by Gravediggaz if you havent already, i think youll really fw it

I’ll try anything once though, can’t like it all. I’ve heard them, as my mate is a huge fan of The Fall. I dig it. The other two I’m not sure I’ve heard though. It’s not that I don’t think hip/hop is diverse, I have heard lots of styles, from experimental, to this style, to the click track, moany stuff. It’s just not for me if it isn’t in this particular style. Just my preference mate. I’ve heard things I don’t mind in both of the aforementioned sub-genres though, so I’m not dismissive of it. That’s a cool concept for a video. I’d really have to think a while on that, but one I know would be on my list is Air-Moon Safari. Not sure what genre to even call it, maybe synth pop? It’s a nostalgic one for me. Also, I don’t like ska, but I do like the more punky stuff like Operation Ivy and Choking Victim. One soft spot for me is post-punk 80s Manchester scene kinda stuff; Chameleons are the standout, ‘up the down escalator’ and that whole Script album has cleansed my death metal pallet a million times. Will give Nas a spin actually never heard of him.

The Nas record is an all time classic. There are, however, a lot of artists in either a super lyrical or musically similar style - like Aesop Rock for the former or Wu Tang Clan/ Ol’ Dirty Bastard for the latter which you could be into

My guilty pleasure is Rock n Roll Lady by Lisa Dominique. I think it's because of the production. It's all dreamy like it was recorded underwater, and it reminds me of the late 80s very early 90s - ie peak civilization.

Also if you like that sound you should listen to mobb deep's debut the infamous and sophomore hell on earth. More dark and hardcore than Nas also Nas is featured on both these albums. Nas and mobb deep grew out together on the same block in queensbridge New York.
Solid picks. I'm with you on prog DM, but I like that Cynic. Same with punk, but Poison Ruin is cool. I like punk mixed with black metal, but straight punk bores me. That Nas album is classic. You might also like Wu Tang 36 Chambers or Tribe Called Quest Midnight Marauders.

For me it would have to be country. Growing up everyone listened to mindless radio country, so I wrote the genre off. With that said, there are great underground/ older artists with great story telling abilities that I've grown to admire. Any country artists reach your ears over in the UK?

I do like bits though, way more than I do hip/hop I think. Have you heard of ‘The Devil Makes Three’? They’re Country mixed with Blues and Bluegrass and other stuff, but they’re cool too.

Although I was listening to some Sepltura & cletic frost at time ,It was the Cynic album that started my interst in Death metal and the harsh vocal styles
For me, Drab Majesty - The Demonstration. Not sure of the genre... synth wave maybe? Don't own any, and wouldn't buy any. But I bought that Drab Majesty album and it rules. And I agree with the person that recommended the first gravediggaz album. I own one hip hop album, and that is six feet deep by gravediggaz. Zero reason to own any others, IMO
Love Cynic. Cut above all other tech death bands, largely cos their disparate parts make sense, cohere and reference one another. There is also a distinct human heartbeat and essence to be found within the group (especially with the two Seans in harness - RIP), whereas their successors are all clinical and often soulless.
There's nothing wrong with listening to pop, hip hop and other genres outside of metal. It's a nice change of pace. Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, MF Doom and Bone Thugs and Harmony are some hiphop artist that I listen to once in a while.

Your list of hip hop you like is still high brow in a sense because you name critically acclaimed artists. I really dig a lot of “commercial” tunes too, I got 5 on it, Hey Ya, Chamillionaire Rollin, Right Thurr, Gravel Pit,California Love….and so on. Y2K Urban is wicked, I stand by it and don’t feel ashamed to declare this. Couldn’t be further from the metal subcultures in some ways but (musical) variety is the spice of life !
As a man who adores Deafheaven I can see why you don’t like them. However, this Alcest album was an interesting pick. What are your thoughts on Møl? I thought them the most aggressive of the ‘blackgaze’ bands of the 2010s/early 2020s. Great live too, like a hardcore band!

I’ve heard bits, but I’m not a huge Hardcore nut either, so it didn’t really do a tonne for me. I’ll give them another go though, as that style can very much go either way.
For me music that really becomes to prroggy and technical where 10000 things go on at once is also difficult to digest. However , I really like Disillusion, because even I can grasp the overall coherence of their music. I 've watched your channel for a while, I thought you also digged Atheist and a Finnish band of tech death metal with a pink Zen like figure on its cover. (Can't remember the name, sorry). These bands are also tech/prog if categorizing makes sense at all, so I wonder what you meant by not liking the genre. For me Atheist is a bit too 'difficult' but maybe I'll be able to get it one day. Cheers

Just for the record, it’s not that I don’t like it, it’s that I don’t love the style, as in I’m not buying millions of albums from the genres. There are great albums from within though (I guess hence this video). For me, it’s down to the songwriting, memorability and uniqueness when it comes to these genres. Personal taste though I suppose! Dua Lipa is worth a squirt but not really bothered checking out her music really. What I have heard does nothing for me. Looks sexy on the album cover. Cynic never done anything for me, just don't like the sound. Alcester is a no for me. Wearing cardigans? No. Coffee table Black Metal! I checked out Poison Ruin a while back. Not for me. You should go check out Killing Joke and Poison Idea. You'll be all over them I reckon. That Nas is an absolute classic, great record. If you want some recommendations hit me up. I love that 80's-90's stuff. It went all to fuck md 90's though. Interresting video!!

Definitely check out Mobb Deep, Big L and Big Pun if you are looking to get into more hip hop in a similar style

That for me is System of a Down - Toxicity. Absolutely love it but could not care less for the rest of nu metal/alternative metal movement
Corrosion of Conformity 'Blind' - love that album, but hate everything else they did - can't stand stoner crap.
