  • While this video is pitting a Yanmar 324 against a 424 we're primarily interested in how the different sized tires affect pulling power. Both of these tractors are identical with the exception of tire size so we'll see how big of a difference it makes and which one wins. We are your dealer in Texas for all things Yanmar Tractors, Massey Ferguson, Spartan Mowers, Grasshopper Mowers and so much more!!!

    Great expose of the differences on these machines. I bought a 424 primarily because I'd be rolling around my lawn doing landscaping work far more than I'd be pulling anything. Turned out to be the right decision - on dry days I can get away with working hard on the lawn without destroying it. The floatation helps.

    This is the same as when people say that 35s don’t affect the performance on a diesel pickup when comparing to stocks 😂!! A taller tire takes away from the torque that’s put to the ground.

    It would be really nice to see the difference in pulling power between 2wd and 4wd. How much extra pull do you really get from the 4wd?

    Be nice to see both 324 and 424 hooked together for a pull off...see which tractor can pull the other one...in Low 4WD and diff locked!

      I love the idea but we’ve proven that based on the data the 324 will out pull it.

    We own a 324 and it has worked well for us. One factor with smaller tire size on same tractor is the ability to add chains easily in the winter. Another factor is the 324 will fit in a shipping container for security with the ROPS extended. Not sure the 424 would.
    Didn't hear/see the numbers for the 424, how much more than the 324's 950 lbs did it do?

      Actually, the 324 with the smaller tires pulls harder than the 424. We’ll have to try to reshoot these videos sometime, because there was some glare, and it was hard to read the gauge. Regardless, I’m a big fan of the 324. In fact I have one myself. Thanks for watching.

    I am leaning toward the 324 as I think it is perfect for my purposes. Could you explain exactly how the larger rear tires of the 424 are achieved? Both tractors look level so if the only change was larger tires on the 424 it seems as though it would sit nose down. Are the fronts larger as well or is the front axle dropped? Also, how is the gearing changed to compensate for the difference in tire diameter? Maybe you mentioned this in the video but if so I did not catch it.

    • @prequipmentsales
      @prequipmentsales  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think all the answers are simpler than you think they are. First, there’s not as much difference between the two tire sizes as you think there is. The 424 tire is maybe 3 inches overall height difference, but it only raises a tractor an inch and a half off the ground. Therefore, yes, if you put them side-by-side on a flat surface, you could tell that one would have a slight angle but you’d have to be looking for it. As far as the gearing goes, it’s all the same. Both tires are within specs for lead ratio of the front axle. Fun fact because the 424 has a larger tire. Its road speed is slightly higher.
      The good news is, I don’t think you can go wrong with either the 424 or 324. There are pros and cons to both but in full transparency I have the 324. The stronger pull and cheaper price outweighed the ground clearance, traction and ballast capacity for my situation. These are fantastic tractors, regardless, and you’ll love it. On a sidenote, though you probably have a pretty tough time finding a 324 or 424. Those are old models which were replaced by nearly identical ones the 325 and 425..

      @@prequipmentsalesMy salesman told me that the 325 and 425 are "raked differently, and a backhoe for one is different than the other, factory fitted. "You can't add a backhoe later." Thanks for the comparison! I'm going for the 324 because it's in stock, and looks like it'll pull just fine. With a backhoe you have outriggers and can float the bucket where your tires are touching as well as the buckets.

    • @prequipmentsales

      Couple things. The "rake" is different but barely noticeable so not really a thing. YES, you can easily add a factory backhoe after the fact. We've done numerous and it's actually a pretty easy install however its a little cheaper buy it upfront. Regardless I own the 324 and absolutely love the tractor so you'll be happy either way. @@prequipmentsales I had an SA325/backhoe, box blade, tiller, forks, bucket, and rotary cutter delivered yesterday! Excellent tools.
      I almost bought a little Bobcat CT1025 with the same implements, minus the $3k tiller, (I would've had to wait at least a month if not into next year for the backhoe) for $2K more.
      I would've been SO mad at myself. The Bobcat salesman also tried a little trick to get me to buy quickly. Didn't work. Yanmar is superior. Makes the entire tractor and has no problem with parts.
      The only thing I had to order was a "thumb" for the backhoe. 1-2 weeks and Bobcat doesn't offer thumbs on the subs.
      With Yanmar you get twice the tractor for much less $!

    Do the tires have ballast in them?

    • @prequipmentsales

      Not on these. On these we used to pull angle to increase the traction on the tires plus weight in the bucket.

      The 324 pulls roughly 100kg(220lbs) harder than the 424. However while you do gain some pulling power, you lose ground clearance with the smaller tires. Regardless they're both great tractors and I love my 324! Thanks for watching.

    You neglected to show several different things that would affect the pulling power. Plus you didn't show what the gauge read that you were using to measure with. It doesn't show on your camera. 🤔 Appreciate the demonstration but, not complete.

    • @prequipmentsales

      This was never meant to be scientific. Just simply demonstrate that tire size can have an adverse effect on pulling power due to leverage. Thanks for watching.

    The 324 was spinnning while the reading was done, whereas the 424 didnt. Maybe the 424 doesn't have a low enough gear to rotate the bigger wheels? What is going on here?

    • @prequipmentsales
      @prequipmentsales  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      John. These tractors are identical with the exception of tire size. My whole point was to show that the smaller tires actually pull harder. so while big tires are nice for flotation and traction, there is a tradeoff. we sell both of these, so I’m not trying to sell one over the other. Thanks for watching..

    • @johanbraanen2108
      @johanbraanen2108 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prequipmentsales Yeah, my question is why they pull harder, with a guess of too high gear for the bigger wheels, as they are not spinning like the smaller.

    • @prequipmentsales

      @@johanbraanen2108 The size of the tire changes the leverage. The larger the tire will actually reduce pulling power because leverage is working against you in that situation. Gearing doesn't change.
