The opening scene does a perfect job communicating what a threat the agents represent by showing Trinity effortlessly taking out the cops but then running away from the Agents in complete terror.
Just before production began, Keanu had neck surgery to fuse a pair of compressed vertebrae that were slowly paralyzing him. So he endured the four months of martial arts training with considerable pain as his neck healed and even had numbness in his legs. He doesn't do many kicks in the movie because he quite literally couldn't feel his legs. The feeling in his legs would eventually return, and Keanu later joked that he would be able to do more kicks in the sequel. "I'll do five kicks this time instead of four."

@732ReviewCrew He was a rare stunt double for Angel (David Boreanaz) on Angel and the Stunt co-ordinator of Serenity. Yes. That is Chad Stahelski. He has a lengthy career. He even served as Brandon Lee's body double on The Crow, standing in for Lee after his tragic on-set death.
well it was not the 20s or the 40s XD, in 1999 there were really powerful computers by then and AI it's been around since the 60's. Not affordable for everybody then but tech was pretty advanced 25 years ago.
people need to understand one thing... We use to connect our dial ups to connect to internet in that time, tech people just learned what 303 or 404 error codes meant.. I had a feeling my brain melt after that movie, as i cached some of the things immediately. Later, i needed much more re watching of it so i can connect more pieces which i didn't understand immediately. Plus, talking about AI was still very very early stage of some physicists, so very few people even heard of the possibility of some near future accomplishments in computers. It was, and still is no.1 movie for me. Btw, not a reaction i expected, but good enough. Maybe, they are too dependent of a system ;)
Two major things which the studio changed which would have put The Matrix waaaaaaay ahead of its time: 1) The Matrix was originally conceived as a parallel processing neural net, not a battery farm. Human brains are probably useful for processing, not so much for power, but a studio exec thought that would be too complex. 2) Switch was supposed to represent transgender-identifying. She was male-presenting in one world, and female-presenting in the other (though I don't remember which atm), but that was considered way too controversial for 1999. Both Wachowskis came out as trans women after this trilogy of movies were finished, and hate that the whole "red pill" thing became a right wing meme when they intended very much the opposite (the waking up from traditional norms).
The Matrix is loosely based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave written 380 B.C. Neo is an INTP/ Logician. One of the 16 MBTI personalities. Trinity is an ISTP, agent Smith is an ISTJ, Morpheus is an ENFP, Cipher is an ESTP, the Oracle is an INFJ, and the INTJ/Architect is in Reloaded. Look into the 16 MBTI personalities.
I like to tell people that the most neo-noirish movie that the directors made most stylistically like the Matrix was Bound. That's the movie the Wachoskis made before it. It's so slept on, tho.
Ready for a mind-bending fact. The Matrix movie has a prequel series it is The Terminator movies, Sophia Stewart is the author of a comic book called The Third Eye. Both stories come from it. The Terminator is before the machines take over and The Matrix is after. John Conner is Neo before and after.
It's been said before, but I'll reiterate the sentiment, exclaming "Gun-Fu!" in reaction to seeing this is an automatic recommendation to watch "Equilibrium" or "Cubic" as it was marketed in some areas.
This was such a funny reaction!! From wtf is going on to liking what you see. Nice. There are so many cool scenes in this movie, actually great. Oh and of course you should watch "John Wick" and maybe also "Nobody" after it, it's similar. 👌
I love Neo and the Oracle. He’s not the One yet and she tells him that. She tells him he has the gift but he’s waiting for something (his next life). She tells him he’ll have to decide to sacrifice himself to save Morpheus. So Neo who isn’t the one yet decides to save Morpheus, dies, resurrects, and now in his next life he’s the One and he knows it. She’s like a metaphysical GPS. He had to walk the path she showed him to reach his fate of being the One, yet he still had the free will to choose that fate.
Was too bad that Gloria Foster, who played The Oracle, died before the 2nd movie was finished and had to be replaced for the 3rd film. She was perfect in that role.
The Wachowskis, along with Tom Tykwer, adated from the novel by David Mitchell and directed the movie Cloud Atlas, which Hugo Weaving is also in, along with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Keith David, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, and many more great actors. It's an epic sci-fi movie and has multiple plots occurring during six eras in time. Cast members perform multiple roles across these time periods. It's a fantastic movie, but it's a little complicated, which may be why it didn't do very well. In any case, I first saw it when it came out in 2012, and while I've seen it several times since then, I've thought about it often since. It's just one of those movies, like this one, that makes you consider reality from a different perspective. For instance, what's being expressed in the statement, "There is no spoon." is a literal Truth. ✌🏽🤘🏽🖖🏽

I can still remember seeing this movie in theatres. I jumped on the internet bandwagon relatively early, and had a bad tendency to spoil movies for myself by obsessively looking up trailers, reading fan sites, etc. It didn't help that trailers then (as now) had a tendency to spoil their own movies. This movie was different; unless you were *really* aggressive you had to walk in knowing almost nothing. It was liberating. Last genre movie I ever saw in theatres where I literally had no idea what to expect.
I wonder who has the quicker, return time, the Agents or tbe Cylons. C version depends on the proximity of Resurrection Ship. But man, Smith was pancaked by a train and seconds later got off that same train!
Agent Smith-Elrond-V-Red Skull-Tick/Mitzi-Megatron-Mr Doss-Hugo Weaving! Fantastic cast! Fantastic story! Amazing production! In my top 10 movies of all time.
After watching the three movies, you should react to Animatrix. It is a canon anthology anime set in the Matrix universe. More specifically, you should react to The Second Renaissance Part 1 and 2, which are the episodes that show how the Machine War started. As for, "what made he feel that something was wrong with the world", it was just instinct, something that everyone who escaped have. It is the same feeling the people in the "perfect world first Matrix" had, just not everyone feels it because the world is "believable" to their unconscious mind, which the perfect world wasn't.
"He can't use his powers in the real world". Well... not gonna say anything as of yet. This movie came out exactly when it was supposed to: right when everyone thought the world was gonna turn upside down because of the Y2K bug. Most hardware/software assumed 2 digits for the year as in 19xx, so when we reached 2000 computers would assume it was 1900 and that had the potential to wreak havoc. So imagine watching this movie after all that fear mongering!
The ripples in the building's windows when the helicopter crashed seemed so fake to me then. But they showed the same effect in twin tower footage of 9-11. I guess it's either real or an artifact of the Matrix.
The second ("Reloaded") has a fantastic chase scene, but #3 was very weak. I did enjoy the last ("Resurrections") much better than the critics - did a good job of tying up some loose ends and showing the characters as older IMO.
For me, the funniest line in this movie = "and you, ....., help your landlady carry out her garbage." Smith looks up at Thomas A as if he's asking, (Are you serious?)
3 things I don't like about this movie: 1. If humans were too smart to accept a "perfect" Matrix, why not use dumb animals like cows or something? They're big, dumb, and give off more heat. 2. Regarding the 'Bellybutton scene'. If unrealistic tools can be coded into the Matrix to extract tracking bugs, why not code-in unrealistic weapons too? (i.e.- Laser guns and gadgets) 3. If knowledge can be downloaded into your brain, why wouldn't they already know how to do everything and know how to operate every vehicle imaginable?
Room 303. It is 30+3=33. It is believed that Jesus was crucified at age 33. The movie begins there and it basically ends there. Revelations 22: 13-15. " I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." There is Christian symbolism all over this film.
post discussion: Thought experiment for you, is Neo really the one? Nothing really suggests that what he ends up doing is impossible for anyone else, he just happens to be helped by the intentions of prophecy. I think that's why I really levitated to this movie, as a young kid that was very shy, Neo is a blank canvas for everyone, anyone can resist from a system of control, they just have to believe. Also side note, the main cast (Keanu Reeves, Carrie Ann Moss, Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving) spent 6 months before the movie training martial arts and combat training. So many of the stunts you see, is actually them doing it physically. Keanu's stunt double is, coincidentally, also the director of the John Wick movies.
nah man its perfect. It changed the action genre forever and invented a lot of stuff to film those scenes ( like a character frozen in time and the camera is panning around...that's not CGI).
Trinity knowing the helicopter model is easy. Ever met someone who is into military tech? I have friends who never served but can rattle off the model and facts about every military vehicle they see
Watch the movie The One (2001). Elrond use your ring to summon the Schwartz to fight Neo. Neo, you have to mean it, Elrond deserves it since he killed your dog. You know the power of The One, Do it!
This movie literally changed the way I think. I was 19 at the time and have seen it in the cinemas 5 times. It made me question everything I know, never accept anything as a fact and take time to dig deep in order to find proof. Looking back now I can see a couple rather big decisions that would've went a different way have I not seen this movie. The stunt coordinator of this movie is the director of the John Wick movies. There are several theories out there that the John Wick universe is just a deeper layer of the Matrix or a training program for Neo lol. If you look up some BTS footage ( lots of them on YT ) on how they did these shots of a camera panning around a person frozen in a moment you will find some mind blowing stuff. It's not CGI. :) This is such an iconic movie, completely turned the action genre upside down. We have seen nothing like this before and it completely blew our minds. I guess it was like Star Wars when it came out. If you guys want to see some lore stuff that explains the war between the humans and the machines watch the Animatrix. It's an animated movie about 90 minutes long and it containes several smaller chapters giving you a background on the world and how did they ended up here. Pretty good stuff really worth a watch it adds a lot of context. Great stuff as usual guys, hope you'll watch the rest as well.
Exodus 13:12 That thou shalt set apart unto the Lord all that openeth THE MATRIX, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the Lord's.
This movie is considered by some to be highly allegorical of transgender people's experiences. The movie is literally about questioning one's identity at a fundamental level. There are so many metaphors that relate to trans people that it can't be a coincidence, not to mention both directors of this movie later came out as trans.
And yet that is just a modern take on...any normal human will question one's own identity as well as their existence. Using the "trans" label and "lens" is modernist bullshit and the Wachowskis weren't trying to demonstrate that at that point in their careers.
Polarizing opinion: This movie is not science-fiction. it's stylized social commentary. Some say its an allegory for christianity, they'll point out room numbers and the (spoiler) scene in the hallway. For others its about the trans experience, they'll reference switch, and the directors' personal lives. I argue that its about the system itself that produces injustices and hatred for others. My proof is the lyric "you know they went after king, when he spoke out on vietnam" being left in the movie edit. It plays just as the credits begin rolling. Why would they leave a reference to mlk and nam in a sci fi movie about fake 1999? I believe i found my answers in the speech he gave in 1967 titled, "3 evils of society". A speech he made about nam. My conclusion: Machines = the system itself Agents = goverments and authorities defending said system Resistance = people helping each other instead of themselves And most importantly..... Neo = the audience, who can make lasting changes just by knowing the problem and believing it's capable
The original plot was not hat the AI were using humans as batteries but as a neural net. However back when this was made it was decided that would be too complex for the audience to understand so they went with the mush lamer battery scenario.
The movie was filmed in Sydney, and there were many weekends where certain streets and locations were blocked off for shooting. At the time, I worked around the corner from the building they crashed the helicopter into. It's not often that we Sydney-siders got to see a movie of that scale with so many recognisable landmarks.
So fun to see folks react to this blind (as possible in 2024). The fact that you got to learn about the premise in real time was a delight. I think if you're into the lore and real nerdy into the stuff about the Matrix being a computer simulation, then 2nd and 3rd ones aren't quite as bad as people like to say. Certainly they don't live up to this, but how could they. And I'll stand up for the 4th recent one. It's a good balance of respectful and nostalgic / fun and meta.
For me, in regards to 2 and 3, they stretched out one movie into two, just so they could make it a trilogy, Matrix 2 and 3 should have just been The Matrix 2, and it would have been much better, but both 2 & 3, because of them stretching it out, ruined both movies. But as I said, the largest issue is because it is all stretched out, too much fluff, some scenes go on way longer than needed, it has been awhile since I saw them, but that is what I remember my take-away being, the substance itself I don't think was bad.
My opinion: 1st movie is the best. 3rd movie is next best 2nd movie is good, but suffers from some poor cgi and a middle child complex. We don't talk about the 4th one.
The opening scene does a perfect job communicating what a threat the agents represent by showing Trinity effortlessly taking out the cops but then running away from the Agents in complete terror.
Right? Like if a woman who can do all that is scared shitless it must be bad!

people need to understand one thing...
A Great Keanu movie is Point Break starring him and Patrick Swazie
The agents knew if they gave Neo his phone call, Neo could escape from the Matrix.
That would have ended the first fight scene.
Arguably the greatest movie of all time. Imo
its hard to rate movies like that but its one of the rare ones that had a huge effect on action movies and movie making in general.
I love all three, and the fourth is fun too.

Two major things which the studio changed which would have put The Matrix waaaaaaay ahead of its time:
1) The Matrix was originally conceived as a parallel processing neural net, not a battery farm.
Love this movie, fun reaction, thanks!
Hearing someone ask if there are after credit scenes to The Matrix makes me feel like a grouchy old man.
Hmm, IF like being around 20 summers in '99? = YES...welcome to the pani-cage#/¤"#i
When Morpheus says “disrupt your input output signal, so we can pinpoint your location “, why didn’t Neo say “dude! I’m right here!?”
cmon, watch that again.. The location is the pod, between billions of other pods. Similar to the computer command "ping"
What an awesome film! A classic of action sci-fi.
I like to tell people that the most neo-noirish movie that the directors made most stylistically like the Matrix was Bound. That's the movie the Wachoskis made before it. It's so slept on, tho.
The video game was a bridge between the 1st & 2nd movies
Ready for a mind-bending fact. The Matrix movie has a prequel series it is The Terminator movies, Sophia Stewart is the author of a comic book called The Third Eye. Both stories come from it. The Terminator is before the machines take over and The Matrix is after. John Conner is Neo before and after.
Oh snap!!
It's been said before, but I'll reiterate the sentiment,
exclaming "Gun-Fu!" in reaction to seeing this is an automatic recommendation to watch "Equilibrium" or "Cubic" as it was marketed in some areas.
When people say they haven't seen The Matrix, it only makes me think we must actually be in The Matrix more
"He's a Cylon", lol
This was such a funny reaction!! From wtf is going on to liking what you see. Nice. There are so many cool scenes in this movie, actually great.
Oh and of course you should watch "John Wick" and maybe also "Nobody" after it, it's similar. 👌
Modern classic, nuff said. Really need to see you guys watch The Walking Dead
Never seen it!!
Mikey
@732ReviewCrew it's a rollercoaster ride, you'd love it
Rob Dougan provides some of the music.
Trinity was the Jedi killed at the beginning of the Acolyte if you've seen at least that episode.
Oh gosh! Wow
Amigos....I still get chills watching this film. Personally, it literally changed the film industry in many ways and has left such an imprint.
☺️💚💚💚
if you watch the animatrix it will explain how the war started and the other 2 movies are good too
The Wachowskis, along with Tom Tykwer, adated from the novel by David Mitchell and directed the movie Cloud Atlas, which Hugo Weaving is also in, along with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Keith David, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, and many more great actors. ✌🏽🤘🏽🖖🏽
6:50 Why is Mr. Anderson's Cubicle so neat and Ikea-looking?
13:39 Yup! Happy Birthday, Youngling 😀
45:29 "Revived" When(01110011 01101001 01100111 01101000 00001010 😞)! Can the Young One please define that word in 0s & 1s, please 😛
Shit, you want martial arts? Gotta see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon if y'all haven't already
Oh snap added to the list
The Raid 1&2 are better with hand to hand combat
@@732ReviewCrew Please add Equilibrium to your list too. You will love it!
The metaphor is legit...
We're definitely being farmed.
Weird that he is an action star and doesn't have abs. We love him anyways. Oracle said he looked like he waiting on something.
Love the trylogy ❤
I can still remember seeing this movie in theatres. I jumped on the internet bandwagon relatively early, and had a bad tendency to spoil movies for myself by obsessively looking up trailers, reading fan sites, etc. It didn't help that trailers then (as now) had a tendency to spoil their own movies. This movie was different; unless you were *really* aggressive you had to walk in knowing almost nothing. It was liberating. Last genre movie I ever saw in theatres where I literally had no idea what to expect.
Mike: There's a lot of leather and a lot of sunglasses.
Me: 🤣🤣 Accurate.
Good reaction, I subscribed because of the posters on the wall. Someone has good taste, guess I'll stay and see who.
I wonder who has the quicker, return time, the Agents or tbe Cylons. C version depends on the proximity of Resurrection Ship.
But man, Smith was pancaked by a train and seconds later got off that same train!
Smith doesn't physically exist. He instantly jumps into any person who is plugged into the Matrix.
'Neo' is an anagram of 'One', which is a nice nugget if you dont spot it :)
It's so obvious now
The second ("Reloaded") has a fantastic chase scene, but #3 was very weak. I did enjoy the last ("Resurrections") much better than the critics - did a good job of tying up some loose ends and showing the characters as older IMO.
For me, the funniest line in this movie = "and you, ....., help your landlady carry out her garbage."
Smith looks up at Thomas A as if he's asking, (Are you serious?)
Neo takes out Agent Smith like the garbage, question is...who is the landlady? (no spoilers)
3 things I don't like about this movie:
(i.e.- Laser guns and gadgets)
" I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End."
There is Christian symbolism all over this film.
Congrats on the milestone!
Thank you!
(16:18) Are we not supposed to wonder how the humans believed they themselves could survive without the sun?
Coma is a European film. Similar to Inception and The Matrix.
me and my friends saw this back in high school the day of the columbine shootings
The videogames were great.
The ps2 ones are a core memory despite never watching the movies!
Mikey
they should have stopped after this one!
the first one is my favorite movie of all time, the 2nd is my favorite movie to watch and the 3rd one I just skip the bad parts :D
post discussion: Thought experiment for you, is Neo really the one?
No Neo is totally different than the others that had escaped the Matrix
this movie makes me wish they would “remaster” older movies but copy it scene for scene with just current cgi and film tech.
nah man its perfect.
You know the power of The One, Do it!
if you want to see more gun-fu check out Equilibrium (2002)
Neo is One rearranged.
Oh come on 😭
It’s a shame they never made any sequels
Its love on purpose because machines cant have that
As cenas de kung fu do matrix e matrix reloaded são as mais incríveis ja filmadas
"You take the blue pill and you become hard for an hour"
Exodus 13:12 That thou shalt set apart unto the Lord all that openeth THE MATRIX, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the Lord's.
This movie is considered by some to be highly allegorical of transgender people's experiences. The movie is literally about questioning one's identity at a fundamental level. There are so many metaphors that relate to trans people that it can't be a coincidence, not to mention both directors of this movie later came out as trans.
Very interesting to learn ♥️
And yet that is just a modern take on...any normal human will question one's own identity as well as their existence. Using the "trans" label and "lens" is modernist bullshit and the Wachowskis weren't trying to demonstrate that at that point in their careers.
Yup. Switch was originally a different gender while in the Matrix but the studio said no.
@@JacksonDiddlesDude, it’s pretty obvious. You may not like it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t what was going on with them.
@@JacksonDiddles You have no idea what you're talking about.
My conclusion:
Machines = the system itself
Agents = goverments and authorities defending said system
Resistance = people helping each other instead of themselves
And most importantly.....
Neo = the audience, who can make lasting changes just by knowing the problem and believing it's capable
The original plot was not hat the AI were using humans as batteries but as a neural net.
However back when this was made it was decided that would be too complex for the audience to understand so they went with the mush lamer battery scenario.
Just checking the comments to see if this was posted. Some Film exec decided it would be too hard for the audience to understand humans as processers.
The movie was filmed in Sydney, and there were many weekends where certain streets and locations were blocked off for shooting. At the time, I worked around the corner from the building they crashed the helicopter into. It's not often that we Sydney-siders got to see a movie of that scale with so many recognisable landmarks.
That's amazing, lucky experience!
How the F did they have never seen it before?
I love your banter during the movie!
My opinion:
1st movie is the best.
3rd movie is next best
2nd movie is good, but suffers from some poor cgi and a middle child complex.
We don't talk about the 4th one.
I liked the one reactor haha
No way Mikey hasn't seen this.
I haven't seen most movies!
And there it is, the greatest allegory for the trans experience of all time.
God Mode? Oh right: IDDQD YUP! That OLD - i am...😕
It's all down hill from here but at least react to Animatrix before the other ones.
Hear hear! ..at least we've got 'Love Death + Robots'...nowadays 🙂
Now that you guys are digging into those late 90s cult classics, how about American Psycho?!
Yes!!! That's soon
