Hi everyone, Mikey and Eddie are back for ALIEN(1979) and with this reaction we introduce two new faces: Taylor and Chris! We hope you enjoy Eddie and Taylor's blind reaction to Alien as Chris and Mikey tag along for the ride!
Alien 3 came out during Buffy's run. Someone posted to the Bronze Posting Board, "I want my two hours back." Joss, who wrote it, replied, "I want my last two years back." Hr wasn't happy with the end result. I personally, have never seen it, nor any sequel/Prequel besides Aliens.
If you watch “Aliens” make sure you watch the Special Edition (director’s cut). It has some important scenes that were deleted from the theatrical release.
Just a clarification. The ship that detaches, and lands on the planet IS the Nostromo. It’s a commercial towing vehicle. The platform it detaches from is the payload it is towing… in this case, an automated refinery processing millions of tons of ore. Think of the two as a tractor-trailer, the good ol’ 18 wheelers we see on the road every day.
Also the water that rains down on Bret is probably condensation from the refrigeration units used to cool the engines of the processors and the ship itself.
I think for a lot of people it's hard to tell that the alien was blocking the way to the escape shuttle. don't think they actually say where the shuttle is and the ship itself is hard to navigate visually, so it's understanble that it's confusing for the audience to realize that was the entrance to the shuttle...
@@AshLee92490 Even so, her actions leading her to double back and to abort rather than to find an alternate path kind of indicates that. I suppose it's not too uncommon to not grasp that though.
In answer to Taylor's question about Ripley's nose bleeding, there's a deleted/partially filmed scene where Ripley, Parker, and Lambert attempt to blow the creature out of the ship's airlock, but fail. The ship begins to decompress to the point where Ripley ends up with the nose bleed.
@@StevenJShow Yes, except the director's cut is the way James Cameron wanted people to see it. The theatrical version is the version after the studio producers meddled with the edit.
27:30 The original plan was to corner the creature in an airlock and blow it out into space. In an unmade scene due to time and budgetary constraint reasons, the crew almost did, except Ash alerted the creature resulting in it being injured as it escaped, leaking acid blood causing a hole to form in the airlock doors leading to an almost fatal atmospheric decompression of a segment of the station (this explains Ripley's injuries and her nosebleed). So after everyone died, Ripley as the lone crew member decided to blow the ship instead and escape with Jonesy in an escape shuttle. However, as she made her way with Jonesy to the shuttle, her path was blocked by the alien, so she left Jonesy to rush back to stop the destruction sequence, however it was too late. This forces Ripley to double back, collect Jonesy, and escape in the shuttle regardless. Unbeknownst to her, the alien went into the escape shuttle and hid prior to. Supposedly the initial story idea was that it went into there to die as it has a really short lifespan (resulting from its really fast metabolic rate).
26:51 No, Ripley did not leave the cat. No, the cat was not bait. The alien was literally standing in front of the hatch to the shuttle and Ripley had no way of getting by and into the shuttle with the cat in the time remaining before the fusion engines blew the ship up. She abandoned Jones there for the moment - hoping the cat carrier would keep him safe - while she returned to the engine room to attempt to shut down the self destruct in hopes it would give her time to figure out how to still escape. The fact she was seconds too late to shut it all down committed Ripley to returning to the shuttle hatch in the hopes of getting aboard with Jones before the alien attacked her. She was actually surprised to find the alien had 'left' and Jones was okay.
The water dripping on Brett when he went looking for the cat was condensation from the cooling system.. as a maintenance guy, he knows it is just cold distilled water. Ripley's nose bleed occurred during a deleted scene that is in the director's cut version; Lambert slaps her after Ripley did not let them in when Kane got parasitized by the Alien facehugger. Parker going out heroically was not the way the actor (Yaphet Kotto) initially thought his story would go. The entire plot was mostly hidden from the actors so they would produce realistic reactions to things, like the appearance of the Alien and the chestburster scene. Yaphet thought that his character Parker was going to take out the Alien and save the two ladies and escape... he actually argued that Parker should survive. The reason the Alien ripped Parker apart is because Parker attacked it. It hunts and grabs prey, but if something attacks, it will kill until there is no more resistance, then go back to hunting for live prey (paralyzing Lambert with its stinger). The adult Alien actually prefers not to delete prey.. it wants to capture live prey to parasitize and produce more Aliens.
Actually Ripley's nose bleed was caused in another scene that was removed completely from both versions of the movie involving the airlock on the Nostromo. It's on TH-cam somewhere.
@@giggitygiggity8391 Yeah, I had seen that, but I believe that the slap probably initiated it, the airlock blowing out exacerbated the injury, then the fight with Ash further caused it to bleed. That scene was in the book and involved Parker seeing the Alien near the airlock and Ripley coming to help him out. The Alien gets its arm stuck in the airlock door as they try to blast it out the airlock. It jumped out just in time and ran off, but the acid from its damaged arm depressurized the inner airlock door. Not long after, it shows up with a fully regenerated arm.
@@mutanthybrid3466 I haven't read the novelization but I remember the original scene synopsis where they manage to lure the alien into the airlock with Ripley as bait. The airlock is vented and there were two options they had where the Alien would've vented into space but caught the ship's side and managed to crawl back inside or that the alien just escaped into another vent leaving Ripley into the depressurized airlock. The second option was considered but suit malfunctions and budget constraints prevented the scene from filming. The airlock was the same as what we see when the crew steps out of the ship.
You are also watching this movie on a bright room with other 3 people, all talking and commenting on every scene, you are not really absorbing the atmosphere, it makes this movie less scary because it kills the constant tension you feel on many of the scenes.
Fun fact: Sigourney Weaver was supposed to meet Ridley Scott and others for the audition at a hotel...and went to the wrong one. When she did get to the right one, Scott said that he immediately knew she was Ripley!
When the guy finds the discarded skin, it is a sign that the alien has grown... The way that a living creature grows is by consuming nutrients and turning the bulk of what it eats into tissue. So, my question is, what exactly did it eat to make it that big, that fucking fast? Mikey... 37:14 _"And this was literally the first movie with a female main character who was an action star..."_ Um, no. "Barbarella" (1968), starring Jane Fonda as a "space adventurer", who is on a mission from the president of Earth to find a missing scientist. Basically, she's a beautiful, scantily clad bounty hunter, who carries a laser pistol and everything -- definitely counts as an action star! Not claiming this was the first, but it is definitely 11 years before "Alien" (1979). ;-] Although it is mostly a sexy sci-fi/comedy (not sure the comedy was all intentional), there is a very disturbing scene of feral children unleashing their robot dolls on our protagonist... they creep closer and closer, audibly snapping their sharp, bear-trap jaws as she helplessly squirms against her restraints. Dolls are already creepy... these were horrifying! Extra cool trivia: The English Pop Rock group, Duran Duran, took their name from "Barbarella". It was the name of the missing scientist.
Kane is motivated by greed. In the novelization it is explained why Kane volunteers to be in the first group to go out. He's hoping to find something of value. He was excited when they were looking at the mineral content of the planet. The bonuses for making the discovery can make you rich. Dallas knows this about Kane and that's why he says, "Yeah, that figures" when Kane first pipes up and volunteers.
"This looks incredible for when it was made"....Wow, really. There are ALOT of great movies with practical FX made before CGI. We even had TV and indoor plumbing way back in the 70's. Imagine that.
When this movie was released people fled the theater due to it being so terrifying. All the tropes you guys know where not tropes for the genre at the time...this movie created them. I don't recommend any of the movies after Aliens but you might as well have fun and form your own opinion.
I don't recommend them either but Alien3 *is watchable* and has a few moments. Guest star Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister!) has a good enough role and (um... *ahem* spoilers). Charles Dutton just swears the whole film and it is sub-par for the franchise but not quite the shite-show (imho) that Resurrection is. After that I'm lost, though I've at least seen Prometheus once or twice (?). Check my comment in the full react.
There are stills of the entire crew waking up in their hibernation pods from footage that was cut. In one of the pictures Ripley - still lying in her pod - is holding Jones. He apparently was in her pod - like he is at the end.
I saw "Alien" in the same ex-Cinerama theater where I'd seen "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), "Star Wars" (1977) and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981). The TV and print ads said only: "In space no one can hear you scream." That raised the tension as the movie title slowly appeared. 2:55 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 5:53 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 7:19 Second Office Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 7:55 The first jump scare. 8:23 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 9:07 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for years. 9:36 Acid Blood!
There's something about the texture of practical sets and the ability of the actors to interact with them that makes them work so much better for me than CGI. The physics of the situation remains real. I have no problem with removal of cables etc but overuse of visual effects has really deteriorated my enjoyment of action in films, like a part of my brain switches off and gets bored.
The Nostromo pulls the refinery. They leave the refinery in orbit when they land on LV-426. The Nostromo has 2 shuttles, but one was damaged and could not be used.
The Nostromo was a tug. When they went down to the surface, they detatched from their cargo and landed the Nostromo. At the end Ripley is in an Escape Shuttle. I think it has minimal propulsion, mostly just enough fuel to get going once, then minor course corrections while broadcasting a distress beacon.
It's too bad -- A lot of the scary qualities of Alien is in the sound design.. It wasn't really a fair viewing to watch it in a brightly lit room while joking / chatting with your friends. Try it in a dark movie theater with Dolby sound.
I realize this is a few months later, but that was not rain in the room Brett was killed in. It was condensation from the ship's massive cooling units. Like the dripping water from your car in the summertime after running it's AC. Here, the ship recycles the water for use elsewhere.
Fun fact Sigourney refused to have a trim of her lady garden, cost the producers thousands to have someone go through it frame by frame to remove her bush from the film 😅, remember this was made nearly 50 years ago
Nice to meet you Taylor & Christopher, as for which Alien movies to watch, obviously the first two are MUST SEE movies. Personally I liked the third and fourth installments, but they definitely had darker themes, and were more complex in the story telling, so the 'summer blockbuster' feel isn't there. By the same token, I'm not a fan of the -vs Predator movies, as they went the other way, becoming more spectacle and creature fighting than story based. Whichever you watch, I hope you all enjoy them! p.s. Seconding what others have commented - WHEN you watch AlienS, do the extended version, it was only cut for run time, not story, and the deleted scenes add a lot of context.
I enjoyed your reaction, but the only issue with a group of people reacting to a movie, is that you tend to discuss it amongst yourself, and invariably work out what is gonna happen five seconds before it does, so we don't get to see you react, it's like a video full of spoilers, one after the other. The dude left of centre, was REALLY bad for it, as a result, there was absolutely no suspense, whatsoever, during the entire video.
time code: 20.57 - "why is her nose bleeding?" answer: stress. writers/director wanted to convey her elevated anxiety level & that's she human vs. android [milk] dr. ash!
That's the justification for it, but I'm pretty sure they filmed the ultimately cut scene where they almost catch it and there's some depressurization.
16:47 -"How did the cat get in the closet?" So as a fan of this film for over 4 decades the most logical answer I can think of is this- Ash placed "Jonsey" in the locker on purpose to throw everyone off the hunt. We know in hindsight he was protecting the Alien the entire time.
See, I feel Jonesy was in there cuz he was hiding from the alien. He senses the danger and made himself scarce, cuz he doesn't want any part of it. Even in the escape shuttle when Ripley takes him out of the carrier and puts him in the pod, he's hissing and growling cuz he knows the alien is still around.
Thanks to Mikey, Eddie, Chris and Taylor! 👾 Watch them all and decide for yourself. Don't rely on the judgement of others in something so subjective as a movie.
Love the Alien! A movie about space truckers having to deal/follow company policy which is basically lead by company greed. Or a movie about a woman and her cat!😂 Quick correction...Mikey said he thought this came after Predator. Predator was release in '87 a year after Aliens the sequel was released. Predator is a great film too, had the fun chance to visit it's filming locals in Mexico many, many moons ago. And yes ..I got to the choppah.😂☺️💚
@@732ReviewCrew No worries and my apologies for commenting on it since the end you were looking up the film order etc. It's probably changed a bit but I believe a tourist destination in Mexico. They filmed Predator south of Puerto Vallarta(west coast of Mexico) near a sleepy village called Mismaloya. The beach scenes in the beginning were shot there. The rest of the movie was filmed in the jungles outside of Mismaloya if I'm remembering correctly. The scenes where they find the hostages and the female, it was converted into a place to eat...get niknacks...go take photo ops with the chopper etc. Again this was a good 20years ago or more but if I had the chance I'd go back. Mexico is beautiful!!!! Yet the heat down south tends to keep me in the PNW.☺️💚
you guys should check out the Alien RPG. Its a pen-and-paper RPG game and its great. IMO its a lot easier to set up and play than D&D. Also Avp the Hunt Begins is a fun table top miniature game as well
"Alien" 1979 is basically just a story about saving a cat. LOL Both "Alien" & "Aliens" are fantastic on the big screen and if a classic film festival near you offers a double-feature for both movies be sure to take the opportunity.
Don't forget to get the "special edition/extented cut" for irs sequel "Aliens" (1986) which is even better and is as scary and stressful than the 1st one ;)
First! I remember seeing the first Alien in theatres back in '79 (yeah, I'm old). My friend & I were way too young to see an R movie, but the ticket guy didn't care.
Talking about the crew being kinda dopey in their choices: They're space truckers, not soldiers. Ripley is the young officer trying to do things by the book, but the rest of the crew often reacts emotionally, like at the airlock. As for Bilb- I mean, Ash, well, no spoilers here.
Probably would have had the same thing happen but we made sure we got in by having my friends dad take us. He was an Episcopal Priest (and my friend ended up following dad) and was pretty shaken I think lol. My friend and I had a blast ofc. I was almost 15 and he was 13.
dude… you don’t stop an acid by throwing a base on it. also, she went back to turn off the self-destruct because the alien was blocking her way to the shuttle. also, yes, the alien was “napping“. It hadn’t fully matured yet.
Sigourney Weaver is a major hottie! Even today at her current age! Taylor is also very beautiful. It's great to see people jump for a scary movie they haven't seen when you've seen it a thousand times and won't be scared lmao. You guys should watch all of the alien movies 🙂
Timed it, when you said right now she's on a 3 minute timer. Well it's a good thing she was quick about it because my stopwatch says Mother didn't wait 3 minutes to blow up the chip. The explosion occurred 1min 36sec later. & Disagree about it being scary. It's all well & good sitting in a brightly lit room chatting w/friends. In a quiet darkened theater, with the rumble of the ship vibrating up your ass & 200 people jump scaring at the same time. It's a completely different movie from what you saw.
I remember watching this on VHS when i was about 6 years old, then going to bed and finding lint in my belly button. I fell asleep convinced a chest burster was going to erupt while i slept... kinda understand why i have high anxiety 😅
This was the original Theatrical version. It’s the version that Ridley Scott even prefers. The Special Edition version has deleted scenes that break cannon and even spoils the second movie.
Stopped watching at 1:50 after you started condescending to the film's visuals. Few reactors are capable of actually enjoying a movie instead of trying to show how smart they are and disassembling it into pieces. You're not them.
H R Giger was the artist behind "the Alien" creature. It was inspired by nightmares that he would sketch out upon waking. Matthew 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. AND YOU THINK THIS IS JUST A MOVIE ? Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. REMEMBER THE SCENE WITH DALLAS SAYING "KILL ME"? 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
Fun Fact: The cast (apart from Hurt) did not know exactly what was going to happen in the chest burster scene, so they're reactions to the blood flying was genuine. Ripley went back to stop the destruct because the alien was blocking the way to the shuttle.
Pls stop this lie. The cast and Scott have confirmed multiple times they knew about it because it was in the script. What they didn’t know about was the fake blood
They knew what would happen, it was in the script, they were just surprised when it happened. It is true that their reactions weren't entirely faked, but this was a massive set piece. John Hurt must have been laying there for hours while they constructed the special effect and the chestburster scene is what sold the script initially. They couldn't possibly have been totally unaware.
@Talisguy naw, all they knew from the script was that the creature emerges. That's all they knew. How the scene played out was a total surprise to them. In fact, the girl was so freaked out, she fell over backwards and both legs went straight into the air. It's caught in an extended scene that got cut where you just see her boots up in the air behind the table, lol. She was genuinely freaked out.
@@SS4Luxraythe s script said the creature emerges. That's all they knew. They didn't know exactly what was going to happen. The girl was so surprised by it that she literally fell. One of the deleted scenes shows both of her feet straight up in the air from behind the table. She wasn't very happy.
Contrary opinion. Most people here recommend watching the extended version of Aliens. I do not. Sure, if somethings good the general take is having more of something good is better. I get that. However, the theatrical release was done for a purpose: there's more suspense knowing less, not more. There is an old adage in storytelling, start as deep into the story as possible. In the extended version we get in a sense the movie Aliens, with a back story tagged onto the front of it. It's all nice extras to see. But it kills some of the suspense of what follows. Better to watch the theatrical release for what it's meant to be: a tight Action Film/Horror. Then later watch the extended version for the extra goodies. My 3 cent opinion... worth 2 depending on your location. After Aliens, there's a HUGE drop in the writing. Skip ALL the Alien titled movies that follow Aliens. At the least skip them for a long while so to bask in the glory of Ripley and this universe while it is unquestionably S tier. The other movies aren't worth the effort and time you put into editing. They suck donkey balls. As for the non Alien titled movies.... Prometheus and the like. They 'may' be worth the effort, but are more like eating a pomegranate. It's a lot of work that leaves one wondering 'was it really worth the bother?' There is so much humans being stupid in those movies you'll secretly be rooting for the Alien. Dumb should not be allowed to procreate. But the real trouble with the Alien franchise is sheer madness of the creator himself. It is possible to fall in love with one's own ideas that one loses touch with reality of being able to tell what's good and what's bad. It. Gets. REALLLLY. Self indulgent. "I am more brilliant than God" self indulgent. Which is a shame because the ideas of the films really are fascinating ideas. Alas, what is set up in one film gets tossed in the next for an even 'more brilliant idea.' They are worth watching. Reviewing? Only when you've run out of S, A and B tier movies to review. Run with the good stuff first. And I'm so confident of this opinion I value it at a whopping 15 Cents.
oh man new peeps. always was a fan of 2 and 3 more then this one, i like it just fine, but maaaany original movies put me to sleep just cause i seen them so much i can repeat each and every line lol rather mimic them. first noticed this effect with (dont hate me haha) the og trilogy of star wars, i love ep 3, the ogs i ZZZZ to, great background noise too. this by far better then the newer ones, with the david robot and romulus i unno i was meh on, allot of things a lil off in that movie. my thing with this story is im petty haha so when the company said investigate or dont get paid i would have been fine, "i found a rock, investigation concluded returning to ship" haha i would also have a cam "malfunction" while we walked in circles around the ship haha "oh look a rock, i found a rock..." if i had gotten to see this in theaters when it came out im 100% my impression of the movie would be different, like in my living room having rented it from hollywood video or blokbuster, with the whole fams there even no lights didnt really do it for me like a dark theater would have. even my fav form a drive in would have been wicked "would its blood melt your incinerator?" damn fine question, answer is 100% yes imo, boiled acid becomes an acid vapor if im not mistaken, so something def gettin a lil melted. im with you on this, find one on me like that ill eat the lead too, dont even feel bad yall, do it and know i ty lol "sorry lambart, you're cooked too!" hahaha for realz. also this would make a great t shirt slogan yea its more of a life boat then an escape pod, gots supplies and what not, it detatched from the ship they took to the surface, the big structure you always see in space, is a refinery they are towing haha, so their actual ship is just the one they took to the surface, they didnt even have access to any part of the refinery with the big towers and spheres
Fun reaction! Now, what about the forerunner to this movie, John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon's _Dark_ _Star?_ An underrated 1974 SF movie set almost entirely on a spaceship, which started as a student film project and retains some of that feel while transcending its beginnings.
I don’t understand the point of watching a horror movie in a bright room and chatting endlessly throughout the movie. If you folks move on to watch Aliens (Director’s Cut), do yourselves a favor and turn down the lights, wear headphones, and keep the talking to a minimum like you’re in a theater.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Space Truckers making "first contact".... Hilarity ensues. The xenomorph is just following its biological imperative. Nest and Reproduce. No malice, no deceit... just primal urges. Full Alien + Predator combined chronological order: 1. Prey 2. Predator 3. Predator 2 4. Aliens vs Predator 5. Aliens vs Predator: Requiem 6. Predators 7. The Predator 8. Prometheus 9. Aliens: Covenant 10. Alien 11. Alien: Romulus 12. Aliens 13. Alien 3 14. Alien: Resurrection
This and Aliens are the ONLY two good Alien movies. All the subsequent films are, frankly, crap (to a greater or lesser degree) and that includes Romulus.
Things that are unlikely in the movie: 1-In the future they will send biorobots to investigate foreign planets ? 2-No animals allowed on spaceships ? 3-The computers are obsolete ? 4-Noone detects "Ash"is a biorobot ? 5-Noone knows about Weyland-Yutanis plans to capture this creature ? 6-Why didn't the xeno put a embryo inside the cat?Was the cat a biorobot-spy for Weyland yutani ? 7-What was the purpose With the morphose prossess ? 8-In all nothing makes sense ?
1 - if we make androids, we're gonna use them 2 - cats gonna cat 3 - retrofuturism is a style choice 4 - turing test 5 - NDAs and counter-corporate espionage 6 - it's not a queen 7 - why do butterflies start as caterpillars? 8 - idk try thinking sometime

@@mutanthybrid3466 Cool
The water is the moisture dropping from the ceiling of the landing gear housing as it was exposed to the atmosphere of the planet.
That wasn’t the alien trying to hug Dallas, that was the alien showing off his jazz hands!
The alien was blocking Ripley's way to the life pod - so she tried to shut off the self destruct to give her more time.
The thing to remember - none of these characters were written as women.
When the guy finds the discarded skin, it is a sign that the alien has grown... The way that a living creature grows is by consuming nutrients and turning the bulk of what it eats into tissue.
So, my question is, what exactly did it eat to make it that big, that fucking fast?
Mikey...
37:14 _"And this was literally the first movie with a female main character who was an action star..."_
Um, no. Not claiming this was the first, but it is definitely 11 years before "Alien" (1979). ;-]
Although it is mostly a sexy sci-fi/comedy (not sure the comedy was all intentional), there is a very disturbing scene of feral children unleashing their robot dolls on our protagonist... they creep closer and closer, audibly snapping their sharp, bear-trap jaws as she helplessly squirms against her restraints. Dolls are already creepy... these were horrifying!
Extra cool trivia:
The English Pop Rock group, Duran Duran, took their name from "Barbarella". It was the name of the missing scientist.
Thank you for the correction!
I've heard theories that it was eating the cat food initially.
@@732ReviewCrew ...that's a LOT of cat food! 🤔🙄😃
Thank you for this fact
@@732ReviewCrew yo welcome
Kane was motivated by the bonus situation!
"This looks incredible for when it was made"....Wow, really. There are ALOT of great movies with practical FX made before CGI. We even had TV and indoor plumbing way back in the 70's. Imagine that.
lol, exactly!
It was mentioned that Predator came first before Alien, but Alien came out 8 years before Predator. Alien (1979) Predator (1987)
He was definitely wrong, thank you
@732ReviewCrew we all get stuff wrong from time to time. Appreciated the reaction though.
Thank you for joining us! Aliens is next
Hear hear! No school like the old school. When practical effects can be done properly they *should* be done in films.
A panel of youngsters are boarding the 'Nostomo." What will they make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie?
The "shuttle" is more like the tractor rig of an eighteen-wheeler that exists to pull the refining station around with it.
Kevin Costner later requested that the cut material would be spliced onto him in post for Waterworld.
It was his first time watching it and he was actually terrified. He doesn't do good in horror
time code: 20.57 - "why is her nose bleeding?"
answer: stress. writers/director wanted to convey her elevated anxiety level & that's she human vs. android [milk] dr. ash!
That's the justification for it, but I'm pretty sure they filmed the ultimately cut scene where they almost catch it and there's some depressurization.
16:47 -"How did the cat get in the closet?"
So as a fan of this film for over 4 decades the most logical answer I can think of is this-
Ash placed "Jonsey" in the locker on purpose to throw everyone off the hunt.
Nemesis is awesome fun!
Next, Aliens extended edition and The Thing with the same reactors' team 😊
Love the Alien!
A movie about space truckers having to deal/follow company policy which is basically lead by company greed.
Or a movie about a woman and her cat!😂
Quick correction...Mikey said he thought this came after Predator. Predator was release in '87 a year after Aliens the sequel was released.
Predator is a great film too, had the fun chance to visit it's filming locals in Mexico many, many moons ago. And yes ..I got to the choppah.😂☺️💚
Yep! I'm bad with dates. Thank you 🙏🙏.
You visited the locations ?!
I loved seeing Taylor in 'Abigail' ! Just kidding, but she and Kathryn Newton could be twinsies ! 😂
you guys should check out the Alien RPG. Its a pen-and-paper RPG game and its great. IMO its a lot easier to set up and play than D&D. Also Avp the Hunt Begins is a fun table top miniature game as well
Interesting! We enjoy Nemesis and DND so this is within our interests
"Alien" 1979 is basically just a story about saving a cat. LOL Both "Alien" & "Aliens" are fantastic on the big screen and if a classic film festival near you offers a double-feature for both movies be sure to take the opportunity.
You 100% HAVE to watch Aliens. Best sequel in the history of cinema. After that, no need to continue.
Don't forget to get the "special edition/extented cut" for irs sequel "Aliens" (1986) which is even better and is as scary and stressful than the 1st one ;)
Got it!!
New people! Welcome! Classic movie. Fun choice to watch.
I feel like I stumbled into a MST3K episode.
Love all the comments thru the movie.
They're basically space merchant marines. Give rhem a break. They never saw Alien.
Welcome Taylor and Chris. Fun reaction. Looking forward to the reaction to the Special Edition of Aliens, my favorite in the series.
First! I remember seeing the first Alien in theatres back in '79 (yeah, I'm old). My friend & I were way too young to see an R movie, but the ticket guy didn't care.
Great ticket guy.
@@jts8053 "A robot! Uncle Bilbo is a goddamned robot!"
If you’re old, I must be positively ancient. I was an adult when I saw it in the movie theater.
dude… you don’t stop an acid by throwing a base on it. also, she went back to turn off the self-destruct because the alien was blocking her way to the shuttle. also, yes, the alien was “napping“. It hadn’t fully matured yet.
Liking for the three top posters on the wall alone.
See Aliens !!!!
* Director’s Cut!!
I remember watching this on VHS when i was about 6 years old, then going to bed and finding lint in my belly button. I fell asleep convinced a chest burster was going to erupt while i slept... kinda understand why i have high anxiety 😅
(Is it the same one?)
It was but it was a bigger puppy when it got to the room w/ a light sprinkly rain.
Is this the Special Edition or Theatrical? If going to watch Aliens, watch the Special Edition
The Hulu version, unsure
@@732ReviewCrew If Lambert slaps Ripley outside the infirmary, that's the first SE scene that wasn't seen in 1979.
Theatrical
This was the original Theatrical version. It’s the version that Ridley Scott even prefers. The Special Edition version has deleted scenes that break cannon and even spoils the second movie.
Found this very disjointed viewing.
Stopped watching at 1:50 after you started condescending to the film's visuals. Few reactors are capable of actually enjoying a movie instead of trying to show how smart they are and disassembling it into pieces. You're not them.
Not only that; but the video games you’re playing today in 2024 are BASED ON THIS MOVIE from 1979 - not the other way around! Sheesh. 🙄
The MECT crew!
Eddie!
That's amazing
Watch PROMETHEUS next then Aliens and Alien Covenant. The rest of the movies are junk
And I'm so confident of this opinion I value it at a whopping 15 Cents.
oh man new peeps. always was a fan of 2 and 3 more then this one, i like it just fine, but maaaany original movies put me to sleep just cause i seen them so much i can repeat each and every line lol rather mimic them. first noticed this effect with (dont hate me haha) the og trilogy of star wars, i love ep 3, the ogs i ZZZZ to, great background noise too. this by far better then the newer ones, with the david robot and romulus i unno i was meh on, allot of things a lil off in that movie.
my thing with this story is im petty haha so when the company said investigate or dont get paid i would have been fine, "i found a rock, investigation concluded returning to ship" haha i would also have a cam "malfunction" while we walked in circles around the ship haha "oh look a rock, i found a rock..."
if i had gotten to see this in theaters when it came out im 100% my impression of the movie would be different, like in my living room having rented it from hollywood video or blokbuster, with the whole fams there even no lights didnt really do it for me like a dark theater would have. even my fav form a drive in would have been wicked
"would its blood melt your incinerator?" damn fine question, answer is 100% yes imo, boiled acid becomes an acid vapor if im not mistaken, so something def gettin a lil melted. im with you on this, find one on me like that ill eat the lead too, dont even feel bad yall, do it and know i ty lol
"sorry lambart, you're cooked too!" hahaha for realz. also this would make a great t shirt slogan
yea its more of a life boat then an escape pod, gots supplies and what not, it detatched from the ship they took to the surface, the big structure you always see in space, is a refinery they are towing haha, so their actual ship is just the one they took to the surface, they didnt even have access to any part of the refinery with the big towers and spheres
The new peeps plan on going through the series! I've only seen the second one on top of this personally
Mikey
Fun reaction! Now, what about the forerunner to this movie, John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon's _Dark_ _Star?_ An underrated 1974 SF movie set almost entirely on a spaceship, which started as a student film project and retains some of that feel while transcending its beginnings.
This had to be the most boring reaction to the chest buster I have ever seen.
