- This week I was wild camping in the Pentlands near Edinburgh, UK. It was also the first time I did a wild camp at Clubbiedean Reservoir. A great trip with likeminded people!

Wild Camping | Pentlands | Clubbiedean Reservoir
This wild camp was a spectacular one! The weather was great, bar the wind, the company was world class, and the views the Pentlands had to offer were something you'd expect to see in the most exotic, remote of locations. Not just a few miles outside of Edinburgh! I ended up trekking about 1 hour to the spot after initially planning a proper car camping experience, but we were not disappointed with this wild camping location. Clubbiedean reservoir had lots of great camping spots and flat ground, with a loch side spot to safely have a fire. Genuinely one of my best camping experiences and a crowd certainly does help.

Again everyone, thanks for your support and hitting the like button. Hugely appreciated 😍. I have two 2 day camps and treks coming up in the next 2 weeks, so more remote locations coming soon x
Awesome drone footage. Well done
Great location mate. I love the sound accompanying the drone footage. Well done-channel just keeps getting better. 🏕🏴
Once I'm making the millions, mate. I've got you covered lol!
I feel like I'm watching the highlander movie 😚
How? 😂
The music at the start
Looks so good. Looking forward to your two day camps too!
Mon camping wae the community, Lainey.
🤫 🤣 I would be terrible company!
Hello Monty. Looked like a nice quiet camp. Nice drone footage and woodland. Lovely. Enjoyed watching. Atb Steve 👍
When are you getting a drone big man?
No there not for me. 🤔👍
@@stevesdaysoff2759 You can chase Gaz with it!
How much 😂👍
Another great video ❤
Thanks Angela! How have you been keeping? Have you been out much?
Gd drone footage again monty
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice one Monty :-) Hope your good mate :-)
Russssss. Absolutely brilliant here, mate. How are you?
Nice vid monty.Cracking looking place.
Thanks, Stuart. Hope you are well mate!
@@MontyOutdoors all good buddy.Off til Monday now i think loch assynt got a sneaky lil spot there.Hope you are well!
Looked a nice spot, Monty👍 Decent bit of campfire cooking as usual! 😁 Hope the knee is on the mend soon! ATB👍
Cheers Des! The knee was on fine form at the weekend and has been on fine form for 2 weeks. Will continue to rest before I start on the 10kms again - PB about 57 minutes. How are you getting on with yours?
@@MontyOutdoors I've not been running for a couple of months. Just wasn't feeling quite right. But thinking about getting started again. Congrats on your PB! I think 57 was the best I ever reached (I was about 55 at the time, mind you 😁). Hope you can shave a few more mins off that👍
Brilliant Monty, your very good at editing and the drone is shamazing 😍😍
Thanks Nicky! Glad you are enjoying the content and hopefully I can improve over time.
Have you got anything planned this weekend?
Away to Inverness, but on Tuesday I'm possibly starting the west highland way for 2 nights then home at Balmaha due to work, im going solo. How do I upload photos to show the Friday crew if I go ? .
@@nickywhyte7546 Camping up at Inverness? You're doing the whole WHW in 2 nights? Or are you going to see how much you can do in 2 nights?
Just use any image uploading website, upload the image and copy the link in! 😁
Not camping in Inverness just a visit. Off work Tuesday to Thursday, so going to Drymen. Then next day to Millarochy. My equipment is cheap so very heavy and need to compensate on ability.
Plenty of different camps in the Pentlands. Haven’t done a reservoir one yet.
Summit camp on allermuir is good one , you look right over Edinburgh
Mate, I'd recommend Clubbiedean. Best one I've camped at. Harlaw has lots of spots too, but came across as the busier of the too. Bonaly is small, but cute! If you're having a fire, Clubbiedean is the best and it's also more spots down at the loch side.
Is that the one next to Capelaw? Is i've camped up there!
Thanks for viewing and commenting, mate. Hugely appreciated!
@@MontyOutdoors I’m going to take the wee man on my next camp and clubbiedean looks braw. So you’ve hooked me there. Great video btw
I used to have a stormshield tent that was just the same as that wild country one! 5 o'clock 😮😅
Mate, I love old tents. I've got the whole setup process on my phone so hopefully do a video on it one day. I'll need to check out the one you're on about.
Very unusual of me to stay up that late. You should try it though. Weird experience lol.
@@MontyOutdoors I think it must have been called the Xodus 2 though I can't see many pictures of it. I don't think I could handle an all nighter I'm used to heading to bed about 9 so midnight is pushing the boat out lol
@@MrWildWales Oh wow really? What time do you head out camping at? I normally head to bed about 2am haha. Then between 2am and 8am I just enter a deep start of consciousness.
@@MontyOutdoors Normally about 2pm or so. I'm used to working early mornings see so I normally end up waking up super early
In the summer i use a rectangle sleeping bag for a little bit more room and I've recently purchased the new bigger Trekology UL 140 mat its very thick and I sleep like a baby on it. I brush seam sealer on the groundsheet of my tents now to stop mats sliding around i find thats one of things that wakes me up constantly and the sealer stops that and i also carry a small usb or battery powered fan in the summer its great on those stuffy nights. Atb Colin.
Hi Colin, how are you? Thanks for watching and commenting mate, but that's some outstanding advice. In summer I just use a mummy bag as a blanket, but like you I find the mats sliding and just finding it difficult to get comfortable, the main issue as to why I can't sleep. So in summer, on flat ground, I resort to closed cell foam mats on their own - in general, by best sleeps come from these. I don't think heat is the issue, but I have thought about the new Trekology mat, especially for summer. But the seam sealer trick might just be a winner. Thanks so much!
Colin, is the trekology ul lightweight and fairly compact?
@@nickywhyte7546 its pretty bulky Nicky its about the size of a 2 litre bottle
It weighs just over a kilo for me its been worth it for the much improved sleep
@@nickywhyte7546 i also use the trekology ul 80 and i can recommend that mat also
As ever a great piece of film drone footage was great with the music, the pentland hills are an old haunt of mine when I used to live in Edinburgh
Chris, thought I'd responded to this one, mate! Thanks a lot, sir and where is your favourite spot in the Pentlands? Clubbiedean has just nicked it for me!
Capelaw hill and deans clough,
Great wee spot you got there. I used to go for walks in that area quite a lot when I lived in Edinburgh.
Mate. Best spot in Pentlands. Have you got anything planned yet!?
@@MontyOutdoors I've still not been out yet, had too much going on. I just need to put myself first and get out there.
Hey Monty how are you mate the camp looked great food looked fabulous and the drone footage amazing . Glad that your getting out and enjoying yourself with friends . Atb Nigel
I'm absolutely fantastic, Nigel. How are you? And thanks, mate. Your support is needed to keep this channel going. What have you got planned for the weekend? I've got a 2 day trip to Skye coming up!
Hi Monty mate hope your grand. Another cracking video I am going to need you to cook for me sometime that grub looked amazing. Only think I can think of ton help with sleep when you are camping is whisky.
Doing ok, Gus. I have severe panic attacks at the weekend and still on the mend, but getting there. How are you? Hopefully better! And I'd happily cook for you! Just don't expect meat haha. My sleep has improved and I'm off the alcohol due to those bloody panic attacks!
Thanks for tuning in mate, hope you are great!
@@MontyOutdoors that's not sounding good do they know what's causing it. Glad your on the mend though, always good to have some time off the drink too.
Don't get me wrong I love my meat but am happy with vegan and vegetarian food too our freezer always has Quorn etc in it. Vikki and I do a lot of meat free cooking and the food can be as good as ford with meat.
If I get in early enough from work hopefully I will catch your live show for a bit.
Ah this has been my fav location so far :) another fab video x
Thanks Sarah! How are you? Hope you're well!
If you don't mind me asking, what is it you like so much about this location?
@@MontyOutdoors Of course I don’t mind :) For me, a little glade of trees with sandy soil and either a river or a lake/loch nearby is perfect-I could live in my tent quite happily there for ever !
For better sleep
However, the "valleys" will 🤫
Good video i enjoyed it very much ☺
Thanks, Ste! How are you mate?
Im ok how are you im just having a relaxing evening here .
@@stephenmallcollmessexuk1484 I'm doing OK, Ste. Thanks for asking. A bit upset with the Scotland result, but they gave their all.
u be ok just take ur time be well and strong catch up with u later:)
What amazing scenery and a brilliant video to boot!
Do you need permission from the landlord before you can wild camp?
That was fair bonnie, never been there afore but might gie it a go. Tremendous footage as ever ma man. Grand
Mate. LOADS of place to camp in the Pentlands. Plenty of adequate parking and stunning scenery. If you are looking for help at a later date, just drop me a message.
@@MontyOutdoors Will do ma man, appreciate it!
@@walkingwithtamson No problem, sir!
That’s a cracking spot in the woods and only 20 minutes from my house + the walk in,
The wee cafe at the house is open at the weekends, worth stopping in for coffee ☕️ and cake 🍰.
Was it Stevie you spoke to? Good fishing there too.
Atb John 🏴
Aye mate. I loved it and will no doubt visit again in winter. We went to the cafe for cakes, we only found out the day we were leaving it was a cafe and that you could drive your car up! But Where's the fun in that.
I didn't get his name but he was out walking his dog, checking to see if anyone was fishing without a permit.
Thanks for commenting and watching, mate.
Wonderful pictures, beautiful location. What drone did you use?
Thanks Angela! Mavic Air 1. Are you thinking of getting 1?
Hi Monty, love your channel. I have subscribed. Can you camp all round the reservoir? The fishery website says no camping and I’ve never tried due to this. I always go to bonaly for an easy camp
Thanks, Pat. Appreciate the support mate. I've met the landowner in this video and he said he's cool with people camping. If you're fishing, he will check to see if you have a permit, but he's cool with camping and he's a cool guy. This was back in June this year I think.
That’s great, thanks for your reply 👍
Bring a big pillow with u
I love both my pillows, I don't think it would help getting a bigger one.
What was your tent this evening ?
I'm guessing a vango nevis 200 ?
Hi Stuart. For some utterly stupid reason I forgot to do a review on my setup 😂.
Vango Nevis 100 (1st appearance)
2x closed cell foam mats
Trekology pillow
And Vango Ultralite
I like the Nevis for fair weather and rainy conditions with little wind.
