I don't understand why Lost Girl does get more recognition for its positive attitude towards female perspective on sex.
Great interview, the inequalities in film & tv will never be addressed unless more famous people or people who are respected or are in positions of power bring attention them; props Heather Graham.

Sandra Bullock. Meryl Streep. Cate Blanchette. Glen Close. Geena Davis. Susan Surrandon. Kate Winslet. Whoppi Goldberg. Cher. Natalie Portman. Julia Roberts. Scarlett Johansson. Angelina Jolie. Charlize Theron. Anne Hatheway. Jennifer Anniston. Nicole Kidman. Emma Stone. Keira Knightly. Gwyneth Paltrow. Halle Berry. Jodie Foster. Jennifer Connoly. Julie Andrews. Kathy Bates. Sissy Spacek. Hellen Mirren. Annette Benning. Claire Danes. Kristen Dunst. Rachel Weisz. Julianne Moore. Sally Field.
These women have all had lead roles in successful movies. And this list barely scratches the surface. And this is going back DECADES. What the fuck is she talking about? Looking at this list, I can totally understand why a black chick may feel a bit underrepresented. But a white chick bitching about this is just complete bullshit. And her rhetoric completely insults all the work that's been done by successful and talented women in hollywood for the past several decades.

Steve S Her point is this: women are NOT in control of their image in Hollywood. Whatever power or perceived power women may have in Hollywood comes from men who decide their fate. Hollywood is controlled by rich white men who make all the decisions about what appears on screen and what stories are told. None of the women in your list are self made. All of them had to depend on some man to get to where they are.

Steve S Furthermore, it doesn't matter if all of the women in your list had lead roles in successful movies; who gave them those roles? Who made the decision to let them play those parts? I guarantee it was an old white male studio executive who gave the green light! Women don't make such decisions in Hollywood, at least not the majority of them, because there aren't very women studio executives in Hollywood who have that kind of power.

Nobody sane REALLY wants to be a film director, to donate 20 hours a day for two years to a film project

There might be more opportunities for men because there are a lot fewer male actors. Most movies have more men than women but even a movie about nerds has many women in it. How many real life nerds have even one female friend?
