Beam design at face of the column

This free structural design tutorial discusses why ETABS picks the beam moment at the face of the column for design.Though many ETABS tutorials discusses about beam design,this point on critical sections are not much looked in to. STAAD Pro and ETABS differs in the display of this moment aswell. ETABS displays the moment at the face of the columns there by simplifying the result interpretation after analysis.Staad displays the moment at the centre of the column.Lack of this understanding can result in uneconomic designs of top reinforcement for beams.
It is important to observe that all members in structural design software is modelled as sticks.That is by modelling only the length and assigning the width and depth.This is the reason most conventional structural analysis software shows the moment at the centre where the stick is modelled. However IS 456 allows the moment to be reduced to the face of the column. This structural design video discusses the logic behind this code provision. Inside the column, the beam will not bend as the stiffness is very high. So though the modelling is done centre to centre,the design can be done at the face there by economising the structural design of beams.
This approach also helps to reduce the congestion of steel in the column beam junction.

All codes needs to be interpreted in this way. The code I used in video is mostly IS -456
May be there was 1 clause from IS 875 Part 2
