@@tabethawood7799 how did you manage a 9 just by watching videos? is there any tips you have to nail the exam because im finding story writing extremely difficult
Mystic - Edits Hi, yes I understand what you mean- I found the story writing difficult too! I used these videos a lot to help me understand the exam and how to structure my answers. What I would suggest is that you do lots of practise questions, (I know this is hard to commit to but it really does help) and make sure you time yourself in exam conditions. With regards to the story writing, what I did was write a story that is open to adaptation should the exam question require you to do so, (so, for example, look through what past exam papers have asked students to write a story about and incorporate all of these themes into your story- for my paper it was "write a story with an unexpected ending" so you could easily incorporate that but also things like weather could be involved in the question. So basically my advice is, if you struggle with story writing, write a really good story that is packed with elements that the exam might ask you to write a story on. Make sure you include some high level vocabulary and interesting literary techniques, (metaphors, similes, personification) and write it out a few times so that you can just rewrite it in the exam. But also remember that there is the possibility of doing a descriptive writing piece! I hope this helps :)
I got high 30s out of 40. 38/40 was my highest and here are my tips. 1. High frequency vocab. You need to use a lot of this and pair it with good, varied grammar. Don’t use dialogue (going against Bruff here!) because a lot of mistakes can come from that. 2. Interesting phrasing. I don’t know how to phrase this but I would say do something like this, “Knowing everything I know, I wouldn’t ever do this again. The darkness is daunting and enveloping, the pit of my stomach is freakily erratic in such a way that I’ve never felt before. My eyes are wrecked; my eyes are so silently shrieking and are now losing the colour they’d always presented so vibrantly. I’ve slammed my head into the wall, wailing with my vocal chords frying themselves.” 3. A distinct idea in your head, you don’t have to plan but you should where your story is going to conclude. Have a hard hitting ending, this is the final impression. You want it to be the final gut wrenching punch, not something weak and annoying. 4. Describe vividly, use your senses. Put yourself into the story and craft it in your head, try to be more sophisticated and think if you’ve gone into it enough that you can imagine what you’ve written and only that (as sometimes we fill in the gaps ourselves and others won’t be able to do that if stuff is open to interpretation).

Hi do u have any tips of how to get better at paper 1 question 5 narrative. We never do stories in school and always do description and I never bothered with it much as I thought I'll pick the description option but I've noticed some exam papers having both options to be a story. I've tried to write a story many times but my mind is completely blank, I have no creativity and I don't even know what to write and my writing is so low level and rubbish. I also can't even think of a plot
@@angelyssa0 It's not. So long as it's a somewhat obscure movie or game and you don't copy it exactly it helps you get much higher marks. You don't get marks for creativity anyway, not at GCSE.
I'm a beginner writer and have been studying fiction writing for years. Aside from the outer layers of fiction that writers sell us like outline ect...As a whole do you believe that fiction writing at its core is just 1.)Narrative POV 2.) Action Beats, Dialogue tags and Untagged lines of dialogue 3.) SOAPAIMS? I'm taking Masterclass Writing and it's all crap, respectively they are great writers but behave as car salesman never even attempting to teach your the core of fiction writing.
One of the best character descriptions I have ever read is the opening paragraph of 'Mr.Norris Changes Trains' by Christopher Isherwood. I use it with my students to show them that you don't have to write a list of physical attributes.
i am into waste of time, but amusingly the reference to the transportation scheme made me smile. also it conveys that both women were flirtatious i d suggest.
😂😂😂 Great video, not a student but straight away this video improved my approach. I’m from illustrator background so my mind lacks the descriptions because used to just drawing it
I know this was uploaded 4 years ago, but on the off chance that you see this, would you recommend doing the descriptive writing based on the image or the story?

I’ll take a look!
If you start mid-action i don’t get how you could talk about it again towards the end again. Would it be a flashback?
It could be that the middle of the story is a break from the action and that the action then picks up again towards the end?

I know this was uploaded 4 years ago, but on the off chance that you see this, would you recommend doing the descriptive writing based on the image or the story?
There isn't always a choice between descriptive and narrative. For example the November 2017 paper contained two story writing questions.
I have an exam tmrw out of 20. I am aiming for 17 or 17.5. I used to get 13 and 14 and english isn’t my subject. Im a math/science person.
Does the narrative option have to have an ending or can it be part of a story?
What are cliches? ?
Sayings that are overused and therefore lack originality. e.g. He felt as sick as a parrot.
I got an exam in an hour. Thx👍
EDUQAS is the board that I need help on, have you got any knowledge MR. BRUFF?

Mr.Bruff do you not cover Edexcel? You have a lot of useful resources on the AQA exam papers but not Edexcel. 😔

If there is a narrative writing question then yes I should think so.
