    Incase anyone still watching this in 2024:
    The SRV system operates under WOT conditions above 5000 rpm to maximize engine performance. When actuated by the PCM, the SRV solenoid energizes, allowing mechanical linkage to redirect the intake air flow to six short runners. The PCM looks for a current spike when actuating the solenoid. If the spike is not present, the PCM sets the DTC.

    I don't understand these strange manifolds. I mean, what if you put a turbo charger or super charger on it? Do you still need that intake manifold butterfly in there flopping around?

  • @seekinghimdaily92
    @seekinghimdaily92 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you for this video. It's funny, I have a 2007 Dodge Charger and my mileage is pretty close to the car used in the video......strange! Anyway, just wondering, this P1004 - which is my problem - is an electrical problem correct?

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a ton! it is definitely a problem with higher milage vehicles, it could be a number of things , start by replacing the part I am replacing in this video , then next is a possible stuck intake manifold flaps if the code stays .
      an intake manifold is around $900 of you may find one off of a salvage yard or ebay .

      I wasn't sure I would get a response, thank you! I believe I need to replace the short runner valve, is that correct? (the guy at Merchant's would not disclose.....all he said was "something definitely needs to be replaced")

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes its the Short runner valve and it's what I am replacing in this video, part numer is in the disruption.
      I would go with mopar instead of your local parts store.
      It's in amazon if you have an account there .

  • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering

    I know it's along list but this what may be wrong
    Dirty intake manifold
    Dirty intake manifold control valve
    Leaking intake manifold gasket(s)
    Dirty air filter
    Defective intake manifold control solenoid
    Vacuum leak
    Shorted or open electrical circuit
    Faulty ECM
    Faulty intake manifold

      TheBmwDoctor what if mines says ecu battery feeds & power grounds? I have the same code popping up

    • @sharettenewton3907
      @sharettenewton3907 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got my 2010 back from the dealership after having the whole engine replaced the control runner valve like 2 weeks before I threw a rod . I replaced the engine. The engine had 400 miles on it when they put it in. A brand new intake manifold was installed. I had to wait an extra 3 days to pick up the car because they where waiting for the intake to come in. I was on my way home and boom the P1004 code came on as soon as I hit my driveway. I replaced the control runner valve again under warranty from auto zone and cleared the computer and I am still having the same issue along with P2016 &P2017! I’ve done everything on this list am I missing something here?

  • @seekinghimdaily92
    @seekinghimdaily92 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One more question: would this problem possibly be associated with the air conditioner? Mine goes in and out of working and I'm going to need to replace this part asap now if so because my heat isn't working either and it's getting cold :-(

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seeking Him daily no this problem has nothing to do with your Ac or heating systems ,

    • @seekinghimdaily92
      @seekinghimdaily92 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BMW Doctor Bummer, ouch! Well I'm still going to get this fixed soon anyway. I assume this A/C is going to be an even bigger challenge.

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seeking Him daily if you have neither AC or Heat then you may want to start with the blend door actuators in your dash, because you should at least have heat .

    • @seekinghimdaily92
      @seekinghimdaily92 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BMW Doctor Thank you. I've googled this part and I guess this would need to be replaced also, if it looks beat up? I might check myself if I can. I haven't looked yet, but do you have a video this? :-)

    mine has came on and off three times now. dealer i bought it from said it was the battery and the last time it came on i took it to auto zone and they told me it was the p1004 code. halp! just got my 08 charger and dont want to be throwing money into.

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most likely the control valve or a faulty intake manifold. expect the repair to be between 100-1100.

    when i take piece off there is a little oil inside and on circuit board inside, do i have a bigger issue? your piece looks dry to me

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oil in the intake manifold is normal but if it had gotten into your actuator then it's possible that it went bad.

    I hope this works for me. I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring 3.5L that the Check Engine light is on with a P1004 code. Does the Short Runner the same thing for my Chrysler Sebring ?

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tylor Benoit the intake manifold runners are sticky so you'll need to replace the intake manifold which is around 900 ish.

    • @sadmaninabed
      @sadmaninabed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so disappointing to hear, I thought it was just a simple part and it turns out to be a 900 plus job , there's no other option I can try ? Some sort of cleaner or greaser , bc the only place I could get the intake manifold where I'm from is the dealership and they want 1300 :/

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tylor Benoit you can try but I am pretty sure the flaps mechanism is shot and there isn't much you can do I've tried to clean them but it actually made them worst .
      The intake manifold is on eBay for 900 and used for 600 dealer is a rip off .

    Can a short runner control valve make the engine noisy at times??? Like a slight rocker noise (Ticking Sound interment )

    Hey I just changed the short runner valve. i didnt have the type of scanner you have to hook up to my car i just had the little cheap one the little red auto link, it might just cause i have a cheap scanner but i was able to erase the engine light but what bothers me is when i recheck, the engine light stayed off but the scanner still gave me a yellow exclamation point. should i drive my car to see what will happen? or what does that mean? keep in mind its the little red auto link i have lol.

    • @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering
      @BimmerAutomotiveEngineering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dishun Wiley if you have an issue still then the CEL will turn back on after a few miles , and if that happens it is not going to be cheap to fix it , but let's not just jump into conclusions .
      Drive the car and see what happens I believe the exclamation sign is when your scanner doesn't recognize the code and with Chryslers vehicles the computer through's a p1000 when you reset codes so it is normal , ones you drive the car and the monitors reset the p1000 will go away , or other codes may pop up if there is any other issues , hope this helps , good luck!

    • @ThugKurd92
      @ThugKurd92 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raphael8900 remove the short runner valve from the intake manifold, take a flat screw driver check the flaps if they’re still spring loaded, if they move freely meaning too loose, means you’ll need a new intake manifold.

    • @pierremcgill

    • @pierremcgill
      @pierremcgill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went to AutoZone bought the short runner valve, replaced the old one, drove the car for over 15 miles then the problem was resolved. If this solution failed to work, I would strongly suggest that you take your ride to a Chrysler dealership and tell them about the issue upfront to avoid any diagnostic fees. Already good luck and let me know how it goes
