Back in 2015 a young orange cat started showing up in my yard who had been abandoned by a neighbor. Whenever I went outside he was there and wouldn't leave me alone. I built an outside shelter for him as the cold weather rolled in and he started using it, and I fed him everyday. Finally, when the temperatures dropped to dangerously cold I brought him inside with me and he never left. I have him leashed trained now to keep him safe in a very dangerous neighborhood and so Garfield and I are together 24/7; he has become the absolute best friend I ever had. As I am typing this my cat is standing by the keyboard while telling me it's time to go for our daily walk. Yes, cats do choose their owners and there is no point in trying to resist them so just go with the gift of their company and they will make you so very happy.

Yes, the same thing happened to me, except that mine was a calico in 2017. I rescued her, and she returns the favour tenfold.
Squirt's story: Back in 2008, a young orange cat started showing up in my yard. We live in an area that had several pets dropped off during the economic crash of 2008-2009. We called him Captain Underpants at first because his orange and white colors looked like he was wearing tighty whities. We tried to adopt him, but he wouldn't let us catch him. He went through a brutally cold Michigan winter with food everyday from my wife and a shelter from me. He wouldn't come inside though. Somehow, he made it through the winter. During the spring and summer of 2009 he would jump the fence and come sit on our laps while we were sitting around the pool. The more people, the more likely it was that he would come visit. We started calling him Squirt because he would squirt 'mark' all over our pool area and drive our other cat's nuts. We finally caught (trapped) him in August of 2009 and nearly killed him by trying to get him healthy and fixed. After 8 weeks of him near death because of parasites, he finally got healthy. Once he got inside and got healthy he became the most loving cat you could imagine. He's still with us today at a guestimated age of 16-17.

You are right about cats picking who they want. Every cat my Mother had found her. She would say " this cat came across the street today with it's bags packed" and that would be it. Thanks for bringing that memory back !! Blessings to your family !!

I was not a cat person. I never wanted to have cats, or understood them. I was actually afraid of them...Until 2 years ago my husband and kids wanted cats. We went to the rescue for one cat and brought 2 sisters. I fell in LOVE sooooooooo much!! I never knew how fun and loving was to have cats. A year later we ended up rescuing another cat from the streets. He always comes to my lap... I love cats and I can't see myself without a cat ever...Even my huge 80lb dog loved the cats..
Same here! I always love dogs and my son really wanted a cat. The cat attached himself to me the first night and I have been his person ever since. They are so affectionate and loving. He’s more affectionate and clingy than my dog that passed away a few years ago. 💗
People who think they don't like cats have never had one. I had an elderly neighbor years ago who found out I had 3 cats, and she told me "Oh, I don't like cats," with her face all pinched. After a few months, I would hafta go looking for my cat Peaches at _their_ house, because she would go over to visit, and they'd let her inside. "We just love Peach," she told me. Poor woman spent most of her life not knowing how lovely cats are, and sweet Peaches won her over!

He was probably abandoned by his mother. That’s a response from cats who weren’t properly weaned.

Elio looks definitely like a rare Flame Point Siamese! They are very friendly cats and so smart. My daughter also found one, and Percy is a little over a year old now. The older he got, the tell tale markings appeared: Siamese blue eyes, orange ears, face, and tabby legs and tail. Beautiful cats!
He looks like he could be a Siamese flare point. But he's so adorable and adopting two animals that were just roaming the streets is amazing. They now have good homes. Thank you for being a good person 😏❤️🐕🐕🥀🥀😺😺
He looks pure too. Because of the ginger coloration being 75-80% male they are difficult to breed, which makes them rare. I was overjoyed to adopt my kitten who was deemed not up to breed standards--even rarer to find a female, but she is perfect to me.

Well, I could do without the videos pretending reptiles and insects feel affection for us.
Honestly, these videos are cute, but The Dodo is pretty harmful. They cite Peta commonly as experts in the field, they encourage human-wildlife interactions (and if they aren't trying to do that, they are failing by not disclaiming the dangers of such interactions), and they constantly anthropomorphise animals to such an extent that taking their example could lead to dangerous situations.
The Dodo never disappoints us with their content....
Unfortunately the comments DO continue to disappoint me, though.
*No, I don't like some of their videos either (the biggest example being the one with the girl having tea parties with that giant Python), especially when the dangers are downplayed and ANY suggestion of cute/innocence is exploited. Some of them remind me of the way South Park portrayed PETA - people who love animals SO much that they actually are IN love with them, marry them, AND start "families" with them - deformed, inter-species children and all!
But considering this isn't some new trend for the Dodo or really any international "rescue" organizations that post similarly-styled videos, I can't say the videos are "disappointing" as if I wasn't expecting them or anything... I just know not to watch them! I literally subscribe for the cats, that's it. Dog stories are usually enjoyable too, but I've been partial to cats for like my whole 30 years of life.

Flame point siamese. They are the absolute best cats. Very intelligent, very social and playful, and very affectionate. My buddy loved to wrestle, and would roll at the drop of a hat. But when it came to friend's kids, he was utterly gentle and just a big soft teddy bear. I miss him every day, treasure this guy.
They probably both kept each other company before running into them, glad the pupper also got a home.

I'm so happy she rescued both. I have an affinity of love for flame point Siamese. I rescued a litter of them & their ginger momma. Found homes for all but the mom & 2 kittens. Talkie (short hair just like Elio) & Flurry was a super fluff. Unfortunately I lost all 3 when I hired a pet sitting service because I was going out of town to take care of a friend. I miss them. Funny personalities, loved watching movies with me, & of course super talkative. Seeing her w/Elio reminded me of the great adventures we had & Bless her for rescuing these 2. 💖😻

I adopted a flame point Siamese like Elio back in the year 2000. He had been living on the streets of Austin, Texas, and was estimated to be 3 years old at the time. The Siamese Rescue organization that had found him, booked a flight for him to Pittsburgh, which was the nearest large airport for me to pick him up. Buddy spent the next 16 years, improving my quality of life.

My cat picked me too! She stuck her paw through the bars at the animal shelter and pushed down my baseball cap. That was 16 years ago! She is the best!
