In the UK we call them budgerigars or budgies. 50 years ago you couldn't visit an older person's home without meeting one or two. They were good company for lonely old folk.
There was always a layer of old newspaper in the bottom of the cage and a cuttlefish bone for their beaks (possibly calcium source as well)
All Budgies are Parakeets, but not all Parakeets are Budgerigars. 😁
I've got a budgie and she's lovely. They make great pets 😊
My Gran had a blue one called Beauty. Every afternoon she'd close all the doors and windows and let him out for a flight. We'd sit in the room together and read (Gran passed when I was 10 in the mid-70s, so it gives you an idea of what things were like). Beauty would fly around for a while, then he'd settle on one of our shoulders - the one next to the other person as we sat side to side - and he'd listen to us reading.
I know we had a green budgie at the same time, but I only have the vaguest memory of it. Not sure where it came from or where it went. My mum didn't like having birds indoors (for good reasons, she believed they should all be in their natural habitats and flying freely), so perhaps the green one was a temporary one who we were watching for someone. (Can't ask my parents anymore, sadly).
I do miss Beauty, even though I generally agree with my mum's view. He was such a funny character and Gran loved him to bits.
@@y_fam_goeglyd, your story is so wholesome. Thank you for sharing! I found it very relatable.
I am 23 years old and I live with my sedentary grandma since I was 18, because she needed daily help around the house, and I volunteered to help. We have a green budgie, that we call Jerry or Jeremy and he is 4 years old. He is such an adorable and intelligent bird, and we let him fly freely in the apartment so he goes into the cage only for the night (we have nets on all of our windows for his safety). My grandma loves him so much and he loves her as well. I work at office and go to university, so most of the day my grandma spends with Jerry and she talks to him, reads him rhymes, stories and plays with him. Jerry even speaks just like her! My grandma rarely smiles, because of her medical conditions, but she always smiles and even laughs when Jerry swims and washes himself in the bowl of water, or when he talks and preens at the same time. I love them both so much.
My grandson found a cockatiel while walking to work. She lives with me now.
Never thought of owning a drink as a pet.
Probably means a cockatiel.
@@RoboVirtue- Or thought of a drink as a male or female.
I seem to find beer everywhere I go. 😄
Was it a sex on the beach?
I went through the same thing with a Chihuahua pup I found exhausted in my backyard.
The very first night i put her in her bed but as soon as i turned out the light she jumped on my bed and slept under my chin.
We were together for 12 years. 🙂🇦🇺
Sweet story. Bless your heart.
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your dear Chihuahua 😭💔
♥️♥️♥️
Our rescue cat…during the day does all the cat stuff. Nighttime comes, she is on the bed and her head in my armpit. I have learned to sleep with my arm up under my head. Lolol

this is what a real hero looks like, domesticated parrakeets cant live in the wild so she literaly saved that birds life.
She is that Parakeet's Hero ❤ Tinker now has a wonderful forever home.
This is staged, the bird can't fly.
Nice.
@@Luffe336 when they get really hungry they dont fly to save energy

What a cuddler. Read all you can to keep your beautiful budgie safe, happy & healthy.
There is a rock band called Budgie!
This parrot just couldn't find a better person 💚
But several more budgies. This is what they NEED, as well as free flight!
They are incredibly social creatures, and they thrive on companionship. You should get it another bird friend.
You don’t really have to get them another friend unless you want to because actually if you can spend a lot of time with them then you should be good to go!
@@Gabriella2014_YT A human can't give this little friend everything she need.
Budgie's for example want to feed each other and to clean the feathers of buddies.
@@Gabriella2014_YTthis is absolutely wrong they live in huge groups in the wild. A person is NOT adequate company for a budgie.
@@elliieeify3796 I once had a bird his name was timi (budgie) and he hated company. He wasn't really fond of anyone I bought him. He outlived 6 other budgies and he was always happier when he was alone. I would never ever recommend getting only one bird. Just wanted to share this unusual story.
What a sweet and gentle soul this young woman is !
She now has 2 wolves, a badger, and a bear; her family wants her to stop running...
You forgot the mountain lion and bobcat.
@@devildoc4257
Either the family doesn't know or, she hadn't gotten that far...
Who this girl?
😂😂😂
Wait who is this
The one and only parakeet I had as a kid was named Tinker Bell and I called her Tinks for short. So glad you two have bonded!
Word of caution if you have one of these birds. If they are out of their cage, make sure all ceiling fans are turned off. It will kill them if they come in contact with the blades.
Also must make sure that cats are kept away. I saw she had a cat in the room during the big cage unboxing. Cats are extremely dangerous to birds, as they are predators.
Also, on opening the cage... all windows and doors must be shut.
Even if it's the window of a room on a different floor... that the budgie has no idea exists.
I guarantee... and have had it happen... open the cage and the budge will fly directly out of the room, up the stairs, down the landing, into the the room with the open window, and straight out into the wild....... and gone.......... without even touching the sides.
Sod's Law with Budgies and Cockatiels.
I have two parakeet’s and let me just say, that woman is so sweet, she was so gentle with the bird. That cage (the second one) that she decorated was beautiful and very adequate. I am so glad that budgie ended up with such a lovely home.
All Tink needs now is Tank to keep her company!
The refrence😂
lol
God bless that sweet girl for saving that poor little bird.
There’s a special place in my heart for people who rescue animals…thank you 🙏
And what a wonderful Resue for Tinker. ♥️
They are native australian birds call a budgerigar great talkers and are very friendly once they get used to you i have had several in my life
Little bird with big personality
The ones we have in the US are actually smaller than budgies though.
She needs a friend
Or a mirror so she thinks she has a friend 🙂
Yes! They love company.
@@noreenn6976 a mirror is not the same! 😉
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
For sure she needs company
I had a pair I rescued as a kid learn to whistle with Tink and you'll both sing together. I also had a large branch in my bedroom for them to sit on and they LOVE bird baths. Also when you're ready she needs a friend they're very social. Tink couldn't have been rescued by a better person.
Feed him seed, but not only seed. There's a good dietary requirement for them. You've got a cute little friend there. :)
Too many seeds can cause fatty liver disease. Feed the Baby pellets, fruits, vegegatables, and very little bit of seeds.
Totally agree. Pet store food in general is often really poor. Seeds are like birdie french fries - not particularly healthy but all too common. They need vegetables, some fruits (those stay away from the high sugar fruits, like grapes). For my Myers parrot, I used Harrison‘s bird pellets.
@Jessica-kk1cz yes exactly ,a variety including greens, also budgie sand paper at the bottom to keep there toes filed down
Dr Harvey's is a good quality parakeet seed sold on Amazon. Mine love leafy celery and Romaine lettuce too
She was feeding her an apple slice the last scene. Looks like she’s done her homework.
u're going to be a good MAMA for Tink..Bless You
aww! that’s so cute
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Tink you are in paradise now. THANK YOU for rescuing this sweet little Hen. She was probably dumped like 95% of my rescued Budgies were
Wie süß ❤🦜😍
theres a wild parakeet at my work, who just live there now, and is like a regaler wild bird
Conyers have become common in the wild here. My sister feeds them (along with all the other birds in the area) and it’s pretty common to see 20-30 of them around her house waiting for dinner time. 😁
Wow Keana! What an awesome video! Thank you so much for not giving up when you tried to catch Tink! I think she was destined to be with you. You have a heart of gold and I think Tink knew that. I love that she will step up on your finger. What an awesome home you have made for her. I hope you both have many happy years ahead together!
Thank you for rescuing him ❤
good job on saving this budgie. Just a piece of advice, budgies love to be with other budgies, they really should have a companion budgie if they are being kept as a pet.
What a sweetheart. How lucky she was to be found by you.
Such a sweet story! Tink is so lucky to have found you 💜

That is the largest parakeet cage I’ve ever seen! 😂 He’s going to be the happiest bird ever!
that's not large. smaller cages are made for carrying the birds to the vet e.g...
This cage is normally for lager birds like parrots and cockatoos. Now Tink is spoiled😁 hope she gets a friend so they can sing together. However make sure they aren’t the same sex or you will have eggs soon (wood need a a separate nesting area), like I had with my Zebra Finches. Please research about parakeets and how to care for them. Glad Tink found a loving & caring person to care for her.
@user-ep4jd6vo9m Spoiled? The bird is in a cage, are you evil or just thick?
@@jenmu7870 That certainly is an extremely large cage for a single parakeet! I’ve been around parrots all of my life and people don’t usually get cages that large for a single parakeet. I’m in my 60’s. I know what I’m talking about. I’m happy that she did as it’s nice for the bird, but it’s definitely unusual. And the smaller cages are not for taking the birds to the vet. I take my African Grey to the vet in a regular pet carrier. I pop a perch in there and he’s absolutely happy. He doesn’t need anything larger. When I used to take my parakeets to the vet I put them in cardboard carriers. I certainly didn’t carry a cage. You should hang out with other bird fanciers. There are clubs everywhere.
Your too have each other now! Tink, you will have such a life 👍😇🕊️😘🥰💖
How adorable is Tink ❤❤❤❤. So glad you rescued her and gave her a loving forever home!!!
Glad you saved each other!
A great Aunt had a budgie when I was little, it used to talk, which amused me no end 😝
I had a parakeet and I would put a shallow dish of water on my counter for him. He loved to bath. It removes any dust or oils. A friend told me it's good for their health. I wish you and Tink lots of fun and happy days. 😊
I'm in London and parakeets are just everywhere haha, the almost solidly bright green ones
You mean they’re flying around in the wild?
@@michelehood8837They are Australian, so, no.
@@moorspede Yes, lots of them live wild in South and South West London. They have been established for quite a few years; all appear to be the same breed, green all over
Those are Indian ringnecks though, aren't they? Indian ringnecks can (and do) survive in Europe no problem, but the Australian budgies/parakeets can't.
Easy way to tell the genders on adult parakeets. Look at the bird's nostrils above their beak. Males have a blue coloration, females have brown. Males tend to be more talkative, Females tend to be more docile and quiet, but this isn't a strict rule. Your parakeet may vary. Congrats on your new friend for life!
You want another one in there now, they are very much social birds so that will be good for her wellbeing. I used to have a 10ft x 8ft Aviary with 60 of them. There were plenty of nesting boxes in there so new chicks were quite regular. We used to trade the chicks in to a local pet shop after about a week or so of being fully fledged in return for food for the others. Some chicks we did keep especially the multi-coloured ones :)
Thank you Keana for rescuing and caring this lovely bird 🙏🏻🌟🍀🌷🧡🎶
I have hand tamed Budgies and they light up my life, so sweet and loving 💟💖💙
Good tip= If you keep her indoors keep the Air clean , no spays ,perfumes, cooking fumes, no teflon, no hairsprays it kills them🤗
please bring her a companion (or 2 or 3) from a shelter! it's important for them to have a budgie friend!
Aw! What a cute little girl! Judging by her eyes, she seems pretty young! I've had a lot of parakeets in my life. Unfortunately, she might have been a victim of a "buy and release" situation. People think that these birds can and should be in the wild, but that is a terrible notion! They're domesticated, and need to be under proper care. It's like if you went to a pet store, bought a puppy, then just dumped it in the woods because "they belong in the wild." Disgusting.
Everytime I see these guys reminds me of my roommate years ago that had one. He named him Bud. That bird was so smart he could open and close the door to his cage. And if you had a drink in your hand or sitting around, Bud would come out of his cage to help you drink whatever was in the glass. Bud was always there when someone came home from work zipping out of his cage and landing on your shoulder to say hi for a few minutes. About a year later I found Bud had left us during the night. Went outside and cried like a baby. I didn't even realize how attached I was to Bud until that moment of seeing him. Not a day went by for months that I didn't think about him, especially when I had a drink in hand or sitting next to me. And coming thru the door and not hearing Bud flip that cage door open just made me sad....
The parakeet I mean Tinkerbell is the cutest thing in the world😊❤
If you had not found her, she would not have survived. It would be wonderful for the budgie if she got a companion. The birdie would definitely like that.
Good idea, but watch them carefully. These are social birds, and while most get along well, there are a few anti social characters that for whatever reason, just are not a good match. There's nothing wrong with a solitary bird as long as they are given a lot of attention, interaction and love.
@@houseofno Since this was a female, a male budgie would be ideal...there are no territorial disputes there.
Budgies are the loveliest friends you'll ever have besides a dog. They're such beautiful birds 😍
Love that she took the time to set up her phone to video her getting the birb. Super cool. Just save the animal, please.
My budgie is always a rescue, found wondering around in the stress.
Endless energy.
Beautiful and amazing parrot ❤🇵🇰💕🇵🇰
i go running all the time and i never find birds that need to be saved. im so jealous. i would pamper that gorgeous bird in the same way.
How kind you are to help out this little lost bird! You saved her and now she has a wonderful life and family! 😊❤
Poor baby ❤❤❤ Thank you for saving her!! ❤❤❤ What a beautiful little parakeet ❤ She was meant to be your baby ❤🎉
Oh she or he will need a friend to share her or his space ❤
Found an African Grey in my backyard once. Flew down from a limb and landed on my head, scaring the crap out of me. I wanted to keep him, but I figured that he escaped from the petstore a mile from my house. Unfortunately, I was right, and I am no thief. The owner was very grateful, so at least there was that...😂
That's a lovely story. She needs a companion, as they are social animals.
Aww thats so
CUTEE ❤❤
That is so sweet! I had parakeets growing up and they were the best! Several years ago, my next door neighbor and I spotted a parakeet really high up in a oak tree while we were outside chatting. We tried, but couldn't get it. We were so worried about the blue jays getting it. I'm so glad Tink was able to be saved from life in the wild where she would not have survived long. And this young lady really went above and beyond for her!
Wow, this girl seems like an absolute dream! She is just so kind. She is somenody's dream girl, for sure. What an angel!
Who knows what you will find out and about!! This lovely woman found this teeny tiny parakeet named aptly: TINK!! Beautiful name for a very colorful birdy!! These 2 became completely inseparable!! I'm glad she got to keep her!! She is ADORABLE!!❤
What a sweet Budgie❤
Awesomeness 💛
Thank you for rescuing this sweet baby, and giving her a chance at life.
Budgies are such wonderful little characters.
Such a sweet story 💜 Tink is so lucky to have been rescued by such an awesome mom. 💜
I found one in San Diego, just had children at the time, that bird was spoiled all through their growing up into adulthood, one of best connections ever!
Animals are our best friends. 💚😘💚🌱🙏
Be kind to animals 💚💚
Thank you so much for rescueing the little bird...❤
Thank you for taking in that sweet little bird.❤
Bless your sweet heart dear lady for giving Tinker Bell her forever home ❤❤❤❤❤❤, or should I say ,forever mansion.
Got some really nice birds in Australia but these cute lil buggers rarely get bought up, definitely one of my faves.
Twink is a happy birdo
God bless you sweet angel that little bird is going to have the best life now and the bond you have will be special .
I gave my birds that same exact cage, only in bronze color. Those things are fantastic. Can easily support 6 birds comfortably.
That is so fucking cruel....
I needed this wholesomeness today! A-lot!
Wow, Tinker hit the lottery big time! 🐦😂
Keana : If you can get another Parakeet so that Tink is not lonely. in that humongous and extremely spacious avian mansion.
Its a fucking cage, get a grip
Tink’s such a cute and beautiful little bird!🥹💕✨🦜❤️🔥✨💞♾️
These birds should never life alone.
I had rescued a female budgie 🦜. She was with me for 11 years, lived her whole life healthily & happily. Her feathers were clipped & she was caged from birth so she could only fly a little but my whole house was her open ground. She was hand trained, recognised her name & even cuddled me with ❤ I named her Shine ✨ because she was a mix of yellow & orsnge -green . I miss her but she died peacefully with no diseases or pain.
Thank you for taking care of tink, she is so beautiful❤
He needs a friend! Normally these birds live in big swarms. Here in Germany most breeders, shelters or shops only sell you two or more of them.
God Bless Her kind Soul
Bless your heart for being an amazing and empathetic person for saving and resucing animals. You both are very precious🥹❤️🎀🦜🫶
Aww, she adores you! You are her flock, her momma now. ❤
It was really nice to message with like people, thank you one and all
God Bless You. For helping this sweet baby. You are amazing! ❤
Tink has found an incredible forever 💞 home.
Hello to all the birds lovers in here 🙏☺
I am so glad you two found each other. ❤
Parakeets in that size usually cannot fly because their wings have been clipped.
She more than likely jumped out the window close to where you found her if you put up posters in that area you might find the owner.
But then on the other hand maybe she was running from a hostile environment.
Either way I wish you both a very happy life.
Birds are so clever, and are full of joy and make great companions. Best wishes...
Giff-Master
Give them stuff like corn on the cob (washed but uncooked), romance lettace(it has good nutrients), cooked brown rice (my budgies favorate)
Feed her a mix of pellets, seed, greens and some berries or boiled eggs
Tink is so sweet!
Now you just need to buy Tink a boyfriend. ❤❤❤

They pick up sounds and mimic them really good!
Came across a TH-cam video one day, with a white and blue parakeet mimicking sounds of R2-D2!
