This thing is a monster. I really thought it was a ROMpler, no its a full time synth. I was about to write ''I would have loved to hear the harmonizer'', but you did use it a little bit. I have been looking to be able to replicate Blind Guardian harmonizer-distortion-wah for years now, and I really think this unit can get really close. I really wonder if Roland used that kind of screen to be future proof. The screens on all my old Boss, Roland/Rhodes, are still alive after decades, and I don't know if the new touch screens will be able to say the same in 20 years. As always amazing walk through/Review. You really showed us what that thing can do, it can almost make you forgot what we are living now...
Thank you for this. I ordered mine yesterday and I was looking for some information on the interface. You have definitely taught me a lot about it and have reassured me on my purchase decision. I am definitely going to check out your other videos.
Great teaching - having had the unit for a little while now, there were still some things I learnt from your video that are not adequately covered in the manual, so thanks. Only thing I would like to pick up on, was that you mention several times this is OK for live, but not for recording: I have to disagree somewhat here. All depends on how you hone the sounds. For example, the over bright 'default' acoustic patches are over bright for a reason … so you can remove top, since if it didn't have it you couldn't add it :) I have certainly heard worse sounds on a lot of commercial recordings. Worth mentioning too is that for a lot of guitarists this might be the only practical option, as fretting and getting a good clean sound can be more difficult for some on a 'real' acoustic box. The amp modeler / speaker / mic is easy on a par with Helix (without having to buy 3rd party IR's), and the effects and such are far better IMHO. No experience personally of the AXE, but cost …. Whoa! So, I think with good editing, plus of course whatever you do in the DAW will yield equal results. Agree with comments about screen and navigation - but isn't the AXE supposed to be a bitch to edit too? I guess this is the bane of all super-complex musical tools. Boss has really hit the mark with this one; for sure there are things that could be improved and on the VG forum there is a 'wish list' as well as a 'bug list' (very few!) that the Boss team have promised to consider. Yes, they are talking! And listening!! I think that employing you to do this series displays that level of commitment to the product? Great. Thanks again for your usual brilliant delivery, humor and information. A great way to spend an hour is in your company :) Best, Steve
Well done! I'll continue to go through this video. I'm using the computer now so that's really cool. I agree that this is better for expanding the guitar rather than being the core sound. After all, we all play guitar because we like guitar. Thanks!
Maybe a project for the next guy - or a guest reviewer; the fact that it does guitar amp modeling however, and is being promoted as having amp modeling capability, really compels a more dedicated exploration of the guitar-specific amp modeling abilities. For example, does it “chug,” do pinch harmonics, track with sweeping and speed picking, and do The Le Metal? In addition, a real-time performance demonstration of switching between a “clean - crunch - lead” patch-list would be appreciated. I know it’s a synth first - but for the price, the promoted integration of guitar amp modeling, and the modern high-gain market - I think it’s worth looking into. Cheers~
Thank you. I have a SY1000 and neeed all the help I can get to understand what is there and how it all works. I have read the 99 page manual and it is not very good, more a list of things you can choose rather than how to make it work. Helps to remember that when you make changes to a patch, you must write that before you change the patch or turn the unit off.
Hey Henning! Curious man, did you set any input settings (if you can remember) - or does that guitar have such a bright and high output tone ? Maybe it's your pickups... All the best buddy!
Ok, so if I turn all the sound engines off and go to normal input, I seem to have no sound whatsoever. How do I turn the normal input sound on, even though it is showing as turned on on the device?
Dear Sir, I own the GR55 and I regret a lot of things on this device, namely: 1) We spend too much time turning the knobs and looking for control commands. 2) the interface and the display screen of the SY 1000 is identical to the GR55 (while there are touch screens on the new ones HeadRush ) 10 years later which I find it awfull from BOSS. So I am afraid to buy the SY1000 and discover bad things and the worst : the latency...
i bought this pedal. I was going to use gk3 with an old electric guitar. I usually play accoustic. the tuning head broke on my old electric. can anyone recommend a guitar that would go well with gk3? something between 500 AUD and a 1000. I'm thinking good quality parts, but don't have to worry about pick up.
Thanks for the deep dive. Very helpful. I am considering whether to sell my VG99 and buy this. The guitar and amp modeller looks pretty much the same. The effects and tweak ability too. What sets it apart are the synth engines, although the VG99 dies have the GR300 engine.
Thanks for this. Like you I have a big ass amp and ES8 based effect system so my GT1000 Core is overkill for songwriting. This, with synths, is absolutely perfect for my use case. Now how to replace the Tripleplay so I can use the East West Orchestra sounds with it (and also how to do piano) so only one of my guitars has a special pickup system. Nice to know you don't have to have envelope filters on everything. The promotional demo videos annoy me in this respect.
Is there a video where u actually show us how to allocate strings to different patches? Rather than the 2 videos that ive seen where you say its possible then never show us?
the sy-1000 it's not a synthesiser as there's now way to change/adjust the parameters on the fly as you would be able to do with a keyboard synth theres no way to drift from one sound into another or control and adjust other synths .. and what parameter changes are very limited in scope .. even while connected via USB there's no way to play and make adjustments, the sy-1000 is blatantly a sham as a synthesiser as there is no way to explore while at the same time playing... something boss manage to keep hidden in their advertisements this Sy system is not a controller like my keyboard can learn VST midi and adjust the sound it's not even cutting edge technology you can't set up automations' as you have to menu dive even for simple adjustment's and there is a lag I've noticed so to even try for a sequence run between patches wouldn't really work just to much potching and menu diving ... and the on-board examples are really naff awful even the salesmen seem to struggle to really find great sounding synth from this old technology that's been packaged and sold as great guitar synthesise which it isn't it's 1980's vintage Roland are lazy just scamming us the customer if this where a computer game it would be a text only with very 8bit beeps and boops sound card
@@stevekirkby6570 I was thinking more of a demonstration of the acoustic guitar model. I, like many people, use effects on all sorts of things. My comment was targeted at the demonstration
Your presentation is extremely helpful and I am going to buy something along these lines. Since I have installed the Graph Tech Ghost System in my Les Paul, I am looking to go the Robert Fripp route. I'm not looking for amp or guitar modeling, what I am interested in is creating different tones and landscapes. Am I better off with the Axon AX 100 or this?

Loved the review. Favourite line? “The pickie-upset thing here.” Loved the humour. Thank you.
The effect send/return is mental. You can add your entire pedalboard into the chain wherever you want.
How do you put bass on bottom string

It chugs. Did a Drop A demo with it.

Unto Part 5/5. You are a good teacher.
The inst and normal input blocks in the first column can be reordered vertically.

Si tengo el Roland vg 99, cual comprarías el Boss sy300 o el Boss su 1000?, tengo la sensación de q el 1000 es la unión del vg99 y el 300

Great job! Thanks for clarifying LFO1 and LFO2 assignability. You should check out Manual Mode if you haven't already.
I admire your patience... Guesss once you accepted the task you couldn't go back :)
no way back.... I said I'll do IN DEPTH and I did!
Great video's....not sure what guage strings are you using? Do you think that makes a difference? Thanks!
I don't think so
In depth indeed 👌

Is it useable though
I would say very much so for recording.
Love this synth but it's an additional $270 for the pickup. The Roland GR55 is $200 cheaper and comes with the pickup

Godin XTSA / LGXT
In the end it comes down to the really hard part: turning all this noise into music.

no there isn't. But you can.
Does this have looper pedal function tho
Can you remove the cheesy reverbs and delay from the guitar simulation ?
sure
Polyfx distortion: I guess this is like sending 6 strings to 6 separate amps. Strumming large chords should sound cleaner
you are great explain!!!
I hope this thing has software that can be used via usb to program this thing.... that would make it so worth it.
Can put anything imply metalzone
Me: put miku......
This is really a fantastic piece of gear from BOSS, alongside the GT-1000. The GX-100 is such corny looking letdown with its color touchscreen.
15:07 Easy for you to say! 😉
Vio Guitar - Violin Guitar?
Should have plugged your Godin in.

are very limited in scope .. even while connected via USB there's no way to play and make

while at the same time playing... something boss manage to keep hidden in their advertisements this Sy system is not a controller like my keyboard can learn VST midi
and adjust the sound it's not even cutting edge technology you can't set up automations'
as you have to menu dive even for simple adjustment's and there is a lag I've noticed
so to even try for a sequence run between patches wouldn't really work just to much
potching and menu diving ... and the on-board examples are really naff awful
even the salesmen seem to struggle to really find great sounding synth from this
old technology that's been packaged and sold as great guitar synthesise which it
isn't it's 1980's vintage Roland are lazy just scamming us the customer
if this where a computer game it would be a text only with very 8bit beeps and boops
sound card
Jennifer lowpass filter 😂
Chorus on the acoustics makes them all sound fake
Depends on how much you add. Unless you are a purist. Then it is Guitar, Mic and nothing else.

I don’t know the Axon, sorry
