    I have an SY-300 and the SY-1000 the 300 still holds it’s own but the 1000 sounds even better! The amp sims and effects really surprised me I love the deluxe combo it sounds very natural IMO. Totally worth it even if you don’t have a midi guitar. 👍

    I totally agree and love your Videos. Call it like it is. I own a Axon Ax 100 which was one of the original midi synth . And I own a Fender stratocaster with the roland midi pickup built in. They pretty much collete dust now. This new device gets the synth guitar guy inside a wake up call. Pretty cool. Keep up the awesome shows.

    I think it also is a great idea for people with space limitations. Not everyone has the room for 20 awesome amp heads much less cabinets. Great video overview and a five part series is just what is needed. "Henning: the other manual for the unit!"

    Danke, Henning.
    I've wanted something along these lines for a while.
    All I need to do now is find a buyer for one of my kidneys.
    Apart from that, you, like I, are an animal/doggo enthusiast, so I have some advice for others like us.
    If, when you're out exercising your woofers, you see other dogs with their pet humans, don't let them interact with your four-legged family members, and don't stroke them either.
    It's impossible to know if their two-legged friends are contagious or have been stroking their dogs, potentially leaving a layer of C19 on the fur!
    The doggo could be an unsuspecting carrier, going from human to human via a wooftastic friend.
    It's little things like this which can help curb the rate of transmission.
    I hope you're safe and well.
    Much love, keep up the great work!

    @ 29:20 Even better than online reference manual for all the parameter
    details, just download and install the Tone Studio on your Mac or Pc.
    You can use it without the SY 1000 connected in offline mode.. It's a
    lot more open looking than their earlier editors, like for the SY-300,
    DD 500, etc. to explore all the synth engine, Poly Effect, Control, Midi, everything parameters

So many questions!! Great video

    'Or play around with some fun stuff' - that's me. I have it on a JPX right now, but really wanted it on a Majesty I have. It fits on the JPX, but I prefer the feel of the Majesty. A lot. It fits on several other guitars as well but I want to use the piezo blended with the magnetics and THEN into the GK-3. I don't like the large-ish gap between the strings and the GK-3 pickup on the JPX (1.6mm) but the GK-3 is too tall for the Majesty (it becomes a new bridge, which won't fly). I am faced with milling a shallow pocket into the face of the inlay, and I hesitate. For now. Too short, too tall, looking for just right. Love the SY-1000 sounds.

    I've had various of these over last 20 years and as much as I have gravitated towards them, I've also gravitated more and more away from them. More than anything it is the large form factor combined with extra cabling. My favorite version was when I was using soft synths like absynth and massive on my PC. The stock synth sounds on all the ones I have owned seemed stale, generic, and at times downright corny. I will never go back to a large sized device like this. My PRS was modified with the Roland synth input and piezo. If I were to use go back to it, I'd like to see a small pedal that allows you to load some soft synths with various presets and most controlling is via Bluetooth. If u get tired of those sounds, load a different one. This is such a niche thing and you have to give how's credit for sticking with it though

    • @tedrogersisback5729
      @tedrogersisback5729 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very compact: 34.5cm x 24.5cm.
      The synth engines such as the "Dynamic Synth", are not MIDI triggered (they operate in the audio domain) and respond like playing regular guitar, palm muting, harmonics etc. are all represented in the audible output of the device.
      The guitar to MIDI disconnect that people encounter is not present.
      It's more like playing a virtual analog synth, there are no triggered internal PCM sounds like on the GR-55.
      Plus you get guitar modelling, all the amp modelling and most of the effects from the GT-1000.

    • @understone
      @understone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tedrogersisback5729 it's not compact when you compare it to a standard sized boss pedal. Too big for my taste. I'd prefer half the size and they can keep all their sounds....would like to play soft synths...sounds that are professionally used

    • @tedrogersisback5729
      @tedrogersisback5729 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@understoneClearly, it's fatuous to compare it to a Boss pedal, apart from anything else it would be unusable in such a small form factor.
      The Kemper, Helix, GT-1000 etc are all larger than it.
      Define professionally used; it has 3 processing engines that can model any guitar or subtractive synth sound from the last 50 years.
      If you want sampled piano, strings, trumpets then yeah I take your point, it's not really intended to do those things.
      But this thing will do pretty much anything else in terms of synthesis and guitar sounds and is clearly marketed with the vintage/retro synth revival market in mind (at least on the synthesis side).
      Although it will cover EDM, drum and bass dubstep, techno etc.
      Masses of potential.

    Quick question Henning...what are your thoughts on the small pedal version...SY-1... clearly less options and power... though for some cool synth sounds... plug and play small pedal format...worth the $200...or go all the way? And which system...the SY-300... without the pickup install...or better with the pickup? Would be awesome to see a comparison of various systems. Thanks HP...you ROCK!

    That first HB guitar oddly reminds me of a really really old guitar made by a company called SAMICK that one of my guitar tutors used to own - though the headstock might of been a little more ibanez'y. I cant seem to find the guitar anywhere. Not even in the old archives. but i know it exists because I was taught how to play on it.

    Weird that having taken the same monochrome screen from the GT-1000 (Great in direct sunlight by the way) and that the underlying OS is clearly similar that Boss chose not to implement the Bluetooth editor that makes gigs and rehearsals so much easier on the GT-1000. Without it you may as well accept that you're going to have to put a laptop in the same bag as your SY-1000 whenever you leave home with it.

I've integrated a synth into one of the effects loops of my Helix, my Arturia which costs about $200 with all its software. In total for $1500 Ive got this and much more, if I integrated this unit I'd be over $2500. I'll keep watching the rest because it's your channel and your always very honest and tuned in for years!

    Hi, I play a SY-300 and how I understand it, basically the SY-1000 has the same possibilities and lookwise same UI, just bigger, plus MIDI and, here's the first question, with some additional features from the GT-1000? And if so, is this a GT-1000 with a built-in SY-300 and MIDI and if not, what is missing? My second question concerns the things you said about realistic sounds like piano, cello, flute and so on. I couldn't find the part again, but didn't you specifically mention, that it doesn't have a real piano sound on board? Does that mean, it doesn't have these sounds on board or does it mean, that you cannot even load these sound files into the SY-1000? I'm sure, you know what I mean, like the fishman tripleplay with the additional foot controller, that can have these sound files on board, so you don't have to use a laptop. I also mentioned it on the extra music video - that song at the start from your band...it's soooo beautiful, I'd kill to write a hookline like that (you know the part I mean for sure...). Best wishes

    Well, I quite like the fact that BOSS hasn't sold out yet to the dumbed down color touchscreen interface. Roland unfortunately did with their latest Fantom series of synthesizers. This makes both the GT-1000 and SY-1000 highly desirable products to me personally, as these products don't project the patronizing attitude of other competing products from other companies. The only problem is the user's manual. 200-300 page manual would be much more appropriate for this kind of product. But once again, I am not in the majority here, nor tat that would like anything to do with the majority.

    Hello there ! Thanks for explaining how to use GK3 , cable and SY 1000 !!! My problem is the normal sound of guitar ( I use a small jack -jack to go from the guitar output to the GK3 jack input
    the GK3 cable is connected and goes to the SY 1000. But... even if I select "Guitar" on the GK3 there is no guitar sound and no sound at all. With "mix" I've got only the synthesizer sound ( no guitar sound ) and naturally only synthesizer on "GK" select.
    What I can do on the synthesizer to enable my guitar sound where I have to go and what I must change?
    the short jack-jack all ready furnished ont the GK3 packaging function well with another pedal so everything seems to be ok but...No direct guitar sound
    Thanks in advance to help me retrieve my guitar sound...

      It's not really aimed at the same market, this is more of a programmers synth/modeller, rather than device created to mimic pianos etc.

    I have a GR55. This looks like it tracks better and has a better interface. The GR55 can be hard to adjust. I find the percussion instruments are prone to accidental triggering. Xylophone for example. The guitar simulation always sound great. Have you used a GR55.

    • @tedrogersisback5729

      I've used both and own an SY-1000.
      The SY-1000 doesn't have any triggered PCM sounds, so if you still want that look elsewhere, or trigger them via USB/5 pin MIDI externally.
      Other than that the SY-1000 has newer, better guitar and amp modelling and effects.
      It's more like an updated VG-99 and GP-10 mixed with a hexaphonic SY-300.

    Yea or there should also be a pc software for PC/Mac for easier navigation and control, just like the Hotone Ampero so that they don't need to touch the hardware if they don't want to.

    Starting at 30:45, I couldn't agree more on using 1980's and 1990's alarm clock level displays on these expensive processors in the year 2020. Talking to you also Fractal Audio and Kemper (among many others I'm sure). Absolutely ridiculous at this level.

    GK 3 pickup ? Again!!??))))) In 21 century WTF people?))) I sell my VB99 only because of this pain in ass - GK 3. And many mo people also... Roland-Boss - please stop torture the musicians ))))
    SY-300 have a polyphonic input converter and it's cool - finally.

  • @sheatanner9935
    @sheatanner9935 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The pickup should come with the dang cable... why must they nickel and dime everyone to death. Ridiculous. I really do like how powerful the options are in this unit, but Boss has gotten me before and you know what they say: fool me once shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Not too keen on giving them my hard-earned cash again. If I were to do that I'd probably get a Katana II head. More my speed, but I do love me a nice lush synth to play off of.

      No it isn't.

      Do you know if the SY-1000 would integrate with Godin XTSA?

    • @tedrogersisback5729
      @tedrogersisback5729 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelseale3672 Yes, it will. There are dedicated input modes for various types of piezo hex pickups. Check out the reference manual and download the tone studio software, which you can use without the SY-1000 connected.

    Amazing Sounds In the demo song 😎👍🏻 but overall it’s not my cup of tea. I find it way to complicated with this UI and too expensive for not including all you need to run it.
    Thanks for your work Henning anyway 😊
