This song is a beast, so many chords. I started playing 7 months ago and have been slowly chipping away at this song since my second month. Found this video today and it’s really helping me, a lot clearer and more accurate than others I’ve seen. Thanks!
In case anyone needs it, I wrote down the order and how many times each part of the song is played: Verso x3 Pre chorus A Verse x3 Pre chorus B Bridge Chorus Verse 3x Pre chorus C Verse 4x Pre chorus D Chorus/Lead line x3 Verse one last time
Right. Literally the first time I’m posting on TH-cam..been playing on and off for 30 years. Picked up the guitar again, like many, very seriously over the pandemic. It’s been a real release, and as a intensive care doctor, been immensely protective of my mental well-being. Your page in particular has been really special. So, thanks mate, from the bottom of my heart. Sadly my wife has become a guitar widow…
I'm really glad to hear what i do has helped you in some small way through such a difficult time. The work you and other doctors/healthcare providers do is so important and never moreso than the last 2+ years, so thank you for keeping us all going! :) Any tunes you'd like to see a tutorial for?
It really has helped. Re: tutorials. Would be great to see some more tuts off In Rainbows, specifically Reckoner. Really influenced by Nick Drake and Ben Howard but understand if acoustic fingerpicking in whacky alternate tunings is not your bag. Thanks again for what you do. Hands down the best and clearest tutorials on tube. You need way more subscribers.
thank you so much for that!!! i'm 15 and i discovered Jeff a while ago, so happy that i can finally play this awesome song. also sometimes i play small gigs and will definitely come up with this one. it's so beautiful and while singing it's hard not to cry;( i noticed that you plan on making lessons for every song on Grace, and if so, then please do that! it would be amazing (i plan on learning all the songs from this album, so it would be also very helpful!)!!! i'm so grateful to be a part of keeping jeffs music alive, and thank you again for helping me with this! have a nice day!
You're welcome Ola! :) That's so great you're playing gigs and playing some great music at them! Very cool. And yes I'll keep chipping away at making tutorials for Grace so should get the whole album done one day :) Hope you have a lovely day too!
I have just started with guitar and i have a learning disability (along with coordination issues) that make it hard to play but i'm trying to not give up and keep going and this helps inspire me to keep going because i love this song and would love to learn to play it one day.
Hey Sam, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the video. I'm sure if you stick with it you'll get there. It's quite a challenging song if you've just started out, so just take it slowly and go bit by bit. It'll take some time but you'll get there. Also if you want to email me (my email is on the "about" section of my page) I'll send you the tab for it if you like :)

@@idith7403 yeah I think it really is perfect too! Literally never get sick of listening to it. Thank you so much, that's too kind of you. Jeff was obviously one of the greatest vocalists ever but an absolute wizard on guitar as well so it's always a pleasure sharing his music with others :)

The verse chords are pretty standard, easier chords but it can become a little trickier with the section that moves up the neck as well as some more jazz chords which when beginning guitar can be difficult to move into position. Hi Dave - great lesson ! On the album version it feels like an acoustic playing and then the electric kicks in during this pre verse (1:18 on the album - 4:15 on your lesson) Do you think the acoustic is playing the same riff or playing chords in the background ?
Thanks so much :) Just had a quick listen and it sounds like the acoustic plays chords underneath the two slowly arpeggiated chords played by the electric, and then the two guitars (acoustic and electric) join up and play the same strummy chords from the Bmin onwards. Could be wrong but that's what I think happens there :)
