I saw him play that night. Was there for Juliana, and was standing in the front row, elbows on the stage. I had no idea who Jeff was. I was young, and it was one of my first concerts. He came out onto the stage, rested a glass of red wine down at his feet, a metre or so away from me, and opened with Dream Brother. My buddy and I looked at each other like "holy shit!". I was hooked. I think most people hadn't a clue who he was, either, but there were still a handful of boys and girls up front with us, eyes locked onto his every move, and every note, and I remember at least one girl had brought a present for him, and rested it on the stage at his feet. I'll never forget that night. Edited for grammar
Loney Jon lucky you! I'm insanely envious that you got to see him live! I wish I could've, but unfortunately he passed away 3 years before I was born. 😭
I've watched this interview like a 100 times and I don't have words to describe Jeff here. He looks absolutely gorgeous, his eyes are sparkling, his smile is captivating and his voice is so sexy. It hurts to see him full of life and grace. You are sorely missed,Jeff.
Good lord. I know he hated being lauded for his looks rather than his extraordinary talent...but what an incredibly beautiful human being he was. Essentially perfection.
This is a good respectful interview which elicits insightful responses from Jeff. I love his look into the eyes of the host when he replies to "What makes your emotions change?" with "What makes your emotions change?" He really makes it obvious that his outlook and music are totally sincere and direct from his heart and soul. There is no other way :)
John Arundell Perfect expression of what makes it so special to listen to the interviews, and why I keep coming back to listen to him . He inspires you to be as honest in your own life.
Unlike today's music -orchestrated and contrived to achieve commercial success, Jeff's music was organically sprouted and an expression of what was hidden in his soul. Much like the great Michelangelo who approached a raw block of marble with his chisel to free the art that was hidden inside, Jeff peels back each layer of himself to lay bare his soul in every performance. What is astounding is that his live performances were not about showmanship but about an outpouring of his spirit and soul.
I still have the article from the newspaper announcing his death. After reading it I sat for a while in silence, after a bit I listened to "Last Goodbye" so very loud several times. I'm sure my neighbors remembered that day as well. Not because the were Buckley fans but because I wouldn't turn the volume down.
This is perfect... I really love him, his songs are the best songs ever. His soul was amazing, his voice, his tallent, I cant belive he is not with us, he changed my life with his music and soul. Thank you man, you were and are awesome!
I was looking at the comments while the video was loading and then read your comment. I scrolled up and looked at the date and my heart stopped. I was born the same day. This is like a treasure to me. I was so young when he passed so I only found out about him recently and he is the greatest thing ever. To know there's a video of him performing the day I was born brings me absolute happiness. And he performs my favorite song, "Lover You Should've Come Over." I'm also glad there are fans my age.
Bobby Bell, What do you mean by "set?" Are you referring to footage or just audio? Ah, I just realized who you are. You're involved with flowersintime. I just got in touch with Rowcliffe, after years of trying to figure out who he is. I know that Jeff performed four songs in total (Grace, Last Goodbye, So Real and Lover, You Should've Come Over). Does your set -- which I assume is footage -- contain all four songs? The video captures on flowersintime don't match any of the footage in this clip, therefore, I assume you have footage that isn't shown in this video?
This video contains the other two tracks (Last Goodbye and Grace) that Jeff and his band performed, that aren't included here. *Jeff Buckley - Musiqueplus - Montreal, QC 5/27/95:* th-cam.com/video/dqPULQsVcHo/w-d-xo.html
No, Last Goodbye wasn't about Carla Azar. The age difference Jeff mentions wasn't that big between them. And it wasn't Elizabeth Fraser either because he didn't know her yet when he was 22. It was definitely the German nurse. Jeff said So Real was about watching his mother and stepfather break up.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been wanting to see this for years. Would it be possible to upload this to megaupload or another site so I can have an uncompressed copy?
Do you have the original video still? If so, would it be possible to get a copy, without the edits you made (removing the Grace music video, due to copyright, surely)? I would love to get a copy of this in its purest quality. I emailed someone at the Musiqueplus studios last year about this footage. Here is what they said: "Hi, Buckley came to the studios on May 27, 1995 before his gig at the Montreal Spectrum promoting the "So Real" tour. He played 4 songs: "So Real", "Lover You Should've Come Over", "Last Goodbye" and "Grace" in that particular order. In the TH-cam segment, the first interview we see is taken from another time he came at the studios. This was part of a MP montage made specifically because of his death. Sony Music asked at the time that 2 videos could be made for promo purposes out of our live feed and be played as music videos. In that case, "So Real" and "Lover You Should've Come Over" were chosen." They also mentioned that the interview segments are from two different dates (you can noticed by Jeff's different attire and hairstyle). The dates in question are 25 October 1994 and 27 May 1995.
People actually sitting in the video and enjoying the acoustic performance. If it happened today all you would see are fuckin cellphones and a bunch of social media lovers
He's referring to Chris Dowd's (former) girlfriend Carla Azar. He lived with them for a time and had about a 20 second relationship with her. The song 'Last Goodbye' was supposedly based on it and I guess a few lines from "So Real" were too...since he was sleeping on their couch.
No, it was a 37 year old nurse...the friend whose couch he wrote it on was not Chris's but Kathryn Grimm's...she's said it a couple of times and Carla isn't 37 to his 22. He's also said the same quote here twice elsewhere in print...
@gotf I believe he was seeing a German nurse or something along those lines. It's mentioned in the book, 'Dream Brother'. I guess he had a thing for milfs.
3rd possibility: We live in a fallen world -- as is described in the Bible -- thus our rebellion against God (sin) has resulted in all of creation being put under a curse, which includes death. The beauty of Christianity is that God plans to put the world to rights and create a new heavens (cosmos) and new earth out of the old.
Of course Buckley later claimed to a friend it wasn't about Azar and the friend surmised it was a German nurse he dated, so frankly no one really knows.
LOL the expression on the drummers face at 7:03. This is what his drumming has been reduced to and so bored out of his mind he looks like an insane hobo.
@@gotf my pleasure! I've got all the quotes on the songs I can find gathered together (still working on the last two, Lilac Wine and Grace though) so that's how I got the info... here's the ones for Last Goodbye: dreamsister81.tumblr.com/post/189877517673/what-love-story-is-in-the-song-last-goodbye

Here he was just stunning, his eyes were shinning...he was beautiful and not to say about his music, he was something out of this world!!
is not real until the 1967-1997 appears and then it hits me, I still have a hard time understanding that he's gone, he's alive to me. I love you Jeff

He reminds me of SRV in a way. It's about the feel.
This all went live on the air. What I recorded was a recap, just a snippet of the interview but both songs that were played are as is.

5:53 is he talking about his break up with Rebecca?...Aww the emotion in his voice when he says, "It wasn't going to work out".
No. He was referring to a German nurse that he was in a relationship with.
Do you happen to have access to Jeff's interviews and acoustic set at Much Music?

6:50 "lover, you should've come EVER"?!?
@gotf I believe he was seeing a German nurse or something along those lines. It's mentioned in the book, 'Dream Brother'. I guess he had a thing for milfs.
Where did you originally get this video from?
Music,sex,art,drugs...Television.
I cant handle the interviewer. He was way out of his league and didn't even realize it.
2 possibles answers : God wants the beautiful souls with him
There's no God, This is why such an awesome human being is no longer with us.

Who was he with that was 37 while he was 22?
