  • Aside from second-hand and special offers, I took a look at the best budget gaming PC build available.
0:00 - Ryzen 2200G, what is it and who is it for?
    2:40 - CS:GO
    3:57 - Rainbow Six Siege
    4:52 - PUBG
    7:13 - Skyrim SE
    8:41 - GTA 5

    11:59 - Arma 3
    12:38 - Rome 2
    13:24 - Tomb Raider 2013
13:53 - Rise of the Tomb Raider
    15:12 - DOOM
    16:17 - Dirt Rally
    16:52 - Mirrors Edge
    18:06 - Witcher 3
    18:56 - Conclusion
    20:24 - RAM Warning
    21:05 - HDMI / VGA only
    21:16 - Conclusion 2
    Extra points:
    * I only had 8 GB RAM to play with, so sadly have been gaming at 16 GB instead of the 8 GB you'd likely be using in a rig like this.
    * I got a deal on the MOBO / APU combo, hence my choice of the Asus Prime over the ASROCK, and why I couldn't show the APU beneath the fan. Were it not for the deal I got, the ASROCK is cheaper and would be the one I would go for.
*As I explained extensively in this video, Relive saps framerates, so the footage here is below what you'd get if simply gaming. I captured at 50 Mbps.
*RAM speeds! 2933 Mhz was used in this video, and was budgeted for in the PC specs suggested near the beginning. Perhaps you could get it to work with higher, but I couldn't get the PC to boot above 2933 with this motherboard and latest BIOS.
*Not being a review site, I didn't run consistent benchmarks against other setups. In a world of synthetics, 60 FPS and ultra settings, I decided to actually boot up the games I knew, and to tailor the settings to a framerate I'd feel comfortable playing it at. The testing was limited and approximate, and results would likely vary level-to-level so in a way the whole Relive tax helps act as a buffer for that.
*Yes, I realised I was in trouble the moment I started measuring with/without Relive. Especially when trying to summarise the jump as a % and FPS, when I showed several different settings for the game. Take it as a rough guide, as I'm sure that there will be variations level-to-level as well.
*Of course I'm not saying that we should throw away our dedicated gpus and game on 2200G's. But it was a refreshing change to limit myself to budget hardware and to see what kind of experience you can expect from it these days.
*I hope this doesn't have to be said, but this isn't a paid promotion or anything like that. I bought the components, firstly to help a friend and secondly because I've been fascinated by the 2200G all year and this has been a great chance to get my hands on it.

I like how you include shroud in this video. It's one of my pet peeves about him (and other big streamers). He doesn't understand computers well and misleads people on his stream. Like how he never turns off his PC (only once a month) because once it restarts, something is "off" or "broken", but he doesn't go in detail why and often presents misinformation. It seems like his whole streaming setup is working because... "it just works". I remember him fucking up the AMD CPU socket thing a while ago, boy was that annoying. It's amazing how good you can be at video games, but fail to understand basics of PC. Anyway, I am ranting..

Believe it or not, "small" vs "large" condoms are how much slack they give when worn. Small will be tighter around the base and cut circulation on thicker dicks. And "large" gives more slack, with more material, so it doesn't break during sex.
I promise you small vs big isn't a case to berate anyone over since people are majorily uninformed about this whole thing.

You just triggered a flashback to my old college days where I had a 720p macbook pro but played some games in 480p. GPU had 128 MB vRAM and I remember constantly thinking "gah, should've gotten the 256 MB version". I didn't even bother scaling up; the game didn't officially support that resolution so I had to do some weird hack and it ended up being a tiny window within my screen with giant black borders. Got maybe 20 fps on average. Still had fun, 10/10.

I've always eyeballed this one, and the 2400g. The 2400g sits about £30 above the 2200g. Does anyone know if the 2400g gives £30 worth of extra performance?

    • @IQUnder30
      @IQUnder30 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Generally, more cores is better nowadays. The 2400g does is still a quad-core, but it does have double the threads, and slightly better on-board graphics. But the Ryzen 5 2600 is just a little bit more, (like 5 dollars USD, don't know how much in pounds), and it gets you 2 more cores and 4 more threads. That would be a great boost seeing how in some modern games 4 core CPUs are getting topped out, 100% usage.
But if you're looking to use the on-board graphics, I say the 2400g is a perfectly reasonable choice. The extra threads should help with more CPU intensive task, and the graphics is comparable performance-wise to a GTX 750 ti.
      Hope this helps.

    • @thrawn9115
      @thrawn9115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

People keep bringing up the fact that Phillip could have changed his motherboard to a less cheap one so that you could overclock the PC even despite the bundle, but I honestly disagree with them.
I think that it's fair enough if you saved money through a bundle. I guess if someone wanted to squeeze more performance they could overclock but for people who are new to PC gaming or just mostly computer illiterate, I honestly don't think recommending overclocking is a good idea. People newer to PC gaming will likely not want to spend as much money on their build (or time to learn what is the best and how to overclock) and instead want a simple way to get a PC up and running cheaply. I think Phillips recommendation is placed for the right reasons, and hey at worst this video is a worst case scenario for someone thinking of getting this.

    • @ScratchCompStudio
      @ScratchCompStudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Exactly, and that's how I viewed the video myself but then again I started out on a system that could barely run old games at 30 fps, so I guess that's just a mindset thing.
I guess in future to avoid the elitist crowd you could preface the video stating that it's for people that just want a quick solution, but hindsight is 20/20.

Siege's T-AA is a bit tricky, you should have told us what were your setting exactly, because T-AA renders thing in lower resolution and then uses magic to make it look like there's more pixels than there actually are.
Great video, Ryzen is a game changer in countries where graphic cards are considered exclusive items and taxed horribly high. This new CPU might bring more people to gaming and allow for a decent budget rig.
Thanks for showing us this, Philip.

Ubisoft's CEO sold his soul in exchange of this cosmic technology they used in Siege. Getting all the settings right is Sisyphean labour, even understanding how it works is beyond many minds. It's very interesting and complicated, to be honest I haven't seen it used anywhere else before.
It was a good idea to use benchmark as a solid test environment, it shows pretty much every aspect of the game.

Ryzen APUs are a thing I would love to tinker with, as other people have said with enough patience you can OC, you can thinker with RAM latency down to the nanosecond.
If you want low budget this is the way to go, however if you see any deal on the 2400G you should take it, those extra threads will help out a lot even tough the extra GPU horse power might not do much.
Its also a provides challenge optimizing both your OS and games while trying to get that "silky smooth 60fps" some .cfgs here and some .inis there and you can most likely achieve it.

Shroud is a good player and all that stuff, but he is kinda ignorant with PCs and very stubborn when he has something in his mind.. also, I had to enable DX12 in Rise of the Tomb Raider to get playable framerate with an i7 4790 and a 980ti! otherwise it would lag so bad because the CPU was at 100% all the time, it was kinda weird.

It doesn't matter to him, because he has money, and it shouldn't matter. Think about it like this, if money isn't an issue and the only factor that's important for your job is high fps or graphics or whatever, than you don't really give a shit that certain CPUs or GPUs give more performance per dollar, the only thing you give a shit about is which ones objectiverly perform better even if they cost idk $1000 more.
As another example movie studios have the same mindset with their recording equipment.

Like, for gaming? Not at all. Rendering, probably. But even then 12 threads are still plenty unless you want to to something like encoding 4k in realtime.
Unless you have some very CPU heavy workload that supports that number of cores threadripper offers you're better off getting a Ryzen or Intel and Overclock it for even better IPC.

Welp, this beats my laptop's dedicated 940mx. But to be fair that thing has DDR3 memory bottlenecking the GPU itself hard.
Edit: I also beat Rise of The Tomb Raider with the said laptop. My performance was horrible, even worse than you had in the video. With everything set to lowest settings with a custom 800p resolution and further tweaks to Nvidia Inspector to make textures load horrible muddy extreme distance LOD textures and the such, I was barely getting playable 40-ish FPS. And even that got worse the more I played towards the end of the game. During the end game I was constantly dropping below 30 with those settings.
My conclusion, don't play this game unless you have a beefy system.

After about 5 minutes of that, I revert it back to how I was playing previously (typically High and up with a consistent 60fps) and I'm instantly happy with what I have again.

I just built a R3 2200g Build and I am really happy with the performance I am getting in games. Also got a freesync monitor which helps a lot by saving me around 20% of gpu power by not always targeting for 60fps.

I kinda like limiting how fast your pc is, so theres a conflict.
Edit: Hmmm philip liked my comment.

No. But it wasn't the 2200G CPU, it's because the game is too old."

That, similar value to my 960m laptop bought second hand, pretty fucking great value for someone getting into pc, plus you don't only get to play games on pc but then you have an entire systen to mess around with all you want. I love it
