One of the best reviews I have seen in some time on a new cell phone product . All areas were covered. Narrator was simply terrific . Thank you for a lengthy clear knowledgeable review of one of the more interesting products that have come our way in 2011 .....
23 dislikes?? Whenever I am due upgrade or lose or break phone I go to phonearena's vids and check reviews. No one does in-depth reviews like they do. Keep up the good work guys !
Had this phone for over a year and still haven't got bored with it. Not had any problems, and I plan to keep it for another year. That depends what the new S4 is like though.
Great review! Thorough, except you left me wondering about battery life? Surprised to hear the background noise was so bad for call recipients. I heard noise cancellation was good from other sources. That is a big concern to me.
@CuzYouSoNinja what do you mean by 'complete'? touchwiz is an android skin samsung puts on top of android, so for example the gs2 runs a full copy of gingerbread with extra software (touchwiz) on top. it'll be the same when ics comes out for gs2, it wont lack any ics features.
This guy has done his homework. One thing though: The glass display is curved a little, so that it doesn't get scratched so easily if put on a surface like a table and so on. Good review all in all!
GREAT REVIEW! Lots of information, clear and concise opinions and generally it gave a large amount of insight into the design and functionality of the phone * * * * *
@saocherri When you tap the screen revealing playback controls (like all android phones in the past), the on screen keys will appear as well

Have been using phone for almost a year and i am satisfied with it. Performance is fine, apps installs quickly and run smoothly.Screen is clear and juicy.Build quality is better than S3 and what i do like, but others can consider it as a flaw - phone has some weight. Also the rear panel of phone has nice non slipery texture, yes it is plastic but it does its job well. Volume rocker sometimes is a menace, because its easy to press unwillingly just by holding phone in your hand.
@LazeX7 its width has 720 pixels and height 1280 pixels. You couldnt understand it even when he used his index finger pointing left to right sayin 720 pixels and top to bottom 1280 pixels?
I have had this phone since the first week it came out. I have had three problems with it: 1) Some widgets stop working randomly on the home screen (google voice for ex), 2) My first one fried on the car charger after a couple of months - like crispy and 3) The battery life is atrocious! I bought an extended life battery when verizon had them 50% off ($25) but that battery fried the phone as mentioned above. Also, the extra life battery is like 15% more so you get 8 hours of use vs. 6 hours.
Kept my 3GS in perfect good fit until this day, now that it's time to move on, I will be ordering this phone now since I've been hearing some great features about it :)
two questions for anyone to answer. whats ppi, what does it stand for, and how does it changes our experience? and what are widgets and how do you use them and any other noteable information. thanks for any helpful answer
I really like the form factor of the nexus prime/galaxy nexus but I have played with one in the shop and the plastic feels kind if cheap which is disappointing and no micro-sd expansion slot? That's a fail for what is supposedly a flagship phone. Love the curved screen.
@Werchio i know what you mean i had an old phone too but i had the extra money so I bought an S2 with no contract so I could use it on the S3, which is going to be the best phone by far when it comes out, but thats not until summer probably. Then I'll sell the S2 on ebay for a couple hundred.
@Vegtabules Galaxy has a lot of competition from HTC One. It's going to be an awesome battle. Once the HTC Zeta is released(I think at IFA or somewhere else) it's going to be Galaxy S3 and the Zeta(maybe the HTC One Z or something) head on.
He didn't even talk about some of the things that I wanted to hear about. Like messaging, the front facing camera, the integration of the menu, back, and multitasking keys thought the new OS, and other little details of how it differs from previous models and software updates. It was too general for my taste, and no specs were included, which is unfortunate.
What are the notifications like? I'm thinking of getting this but I like the notifications on my iPod touch with ios4, does the phone have a dedicated notification center?
@iEatUglyNoobs That is because it's on Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy S2 is on Gingerbread. You will see a HUGE difference when the Galaxy S2 gets gingerbread :) I can assure you. The Galaxy S2 already performs like a monster (it is a monster) on gingerbread no lag whatsoever (if you have the AT&T version, Sprint version or International version). Waiting on Quadcore Galaxy S3.
I know the camera is a 5mp camera and I've had a phone with the same MPs. I know the quality of 5mp, but is that good enough when other phone producers are making 8mp cameras?
@Xndingo11 Where did u get that from? I went to the verizon store specifically to play w/this phone & w/out zoomin n on any web pages the thing has crystal clear legible text. Now amoled plus screens r known 4breaking pixels n2 sub pixels so things appear clearer 2 the human eye, but when ur zoomed all the way out & the txt looks just as if not sharper than the iphone4 thats sitting right nxt 2it, who cares what the specs r.
How is the battery life with high wifi usage and gaming ! (my question mark is broken) Cause im almost about to get it, but im worried about battery cause i heard it isnt very good !
1-Galaxy Note 2-Galaxy Nexus 3-Galaxy s2 Best cell phone (Not on this list)-Samsung Galaxy SIII -Best of luck choosing you're cellphone, but I'm looking forward to buy a Nexus because it's slightly smaller than a SIII & Note and it actually fits for me. And I don't really care about how old each smartphone is because I'm looking for the phone which suites me.
They do...if you buy it direct from Google @ the Google Play store. Just search for "Google Samsung Nexus". Only 399.99 and is unlocked for ATT or T-moible.
What makes the nexus good is its software but once other phone get ICS they will have the same software and much better hardware. Someone needs to take advantage of the minuscule update of the iPhone 4s before the iPhone 5 comes out
@kazora1001 kinda same here, im used to my middle button on the SGS1 and SGS2 I owned. That coupled with the sound hardware bug that 'should' be fixed with a software fix, annoys me as hell.. Im still in the preorder que though, not so sure to keep my number or just get an iphone 4s , that has problem with the battery instead.. Why do I love to torture myself with phones that has flaws? lol also in my country we might not get the nexus till the end of December =/
I've had this phone (galaxy nexus) since November last year, and I love it! With JB 4.1.1 is simply amazing even 1yr on. That said, there the GSII HD LTE that has exactly the same screen with a better camera and faster 1.5GHZ dual core cpu, however it doesn't come with stock android. It has that nasty king "touchwiz".. yuk lol
Most of my friends said nexus's 5 megapixel camera is better then the SGSII. I don't know which one camera is better . So how do you think? Any reply? :D
Should I get this phone or is there a new Nexus coming out? I really prefer Nexus phone (I know GS3 is coming out but I HATE their OS so ugly :/) LMK soon! (:
nodoubtgenious. dude i totally dont even remember posting that theyre both awesomei cant decide and i currently have a nexus s so i wouldnt know anything about touchwiz
Hey, can anyone tell me what colors are available for this phone? I'm looking at Amazon. It says 'Titanium Silver'. I fear it will be gray-ish. Or is it the same as the one shown in this video?
@iEatUglyNoobs umm what are you talking about, the only thing that the Galaxy Nexus has is the HD Super AMOLED. The Exynos Processor is far superior on the Galaxy S2, the Camera 1080p has no lag, everything is just better. You will see what I mean when the Galaxy S2 gets Ice Cream Sandwich. I know my phones broski.
ehmm jelly bean is out from a month on nexus(gsm)!, S3 will have jelly bean, but nexus will have also the next major release, and so on, until it become really outdated, other than that..price is also a good point for nexus, i've bought mine for 350$, anyway s3 is a great device.
Is the battery life that bad as everybody complains? Please users of Galaxy Nexus respond. I'm average user - talking, little emails, little social. And my Blackberry 9700 gives me 3-4days with one charge. Thank you!
The curve glass is called innovation. The soft keys are more responsive than haptic feedback keys or hard keys, & ICS is the ish. Stop complaining about build quality. It's a 750 dollar portable device. It needs to be durable & light. The heavy the device the more likely when dropped for the screen to crack. Screen is scratch resistant. What learning curve? iOS 5 added new features that require a learning curve like reminders, notifications being setup. All hail Android.
The good... It's super fast. Side by side vs. an iPhone 4S on a 4G verizon network it smokes it. It is not even a contest. My co-worker and I picked pages to load that neither of us had in the cache and the Nexus would load in 1 second or less and his iPhone was 4-5 seconds. He even had to check that his 4G network was enabled. This phone performs.
I do not have one, but I assure you that is one of the best smartphones out there (for me it is the best). You'll see that you won't regret if you buy it.
@domdom87 my phone runs gingerbread but since it also runs sense I don't have the complete vanilla android experience. So I was just thinking itd be the same with other things like touchwiz because it isn't vanilla Android.
@thenazgullord : you got every point right. Phonearena really should stop criticizing all the other cell phones that are not Apple based on this unnecessary evaluation.

You reviews are very succinct and to the point and cover every aspect which a prospective buyer would need to know. Great review.
@jahmar asher the Nexus 4 does have an amazing display and can record 1080p video at 30fps. ... The battery is quite awesome too.
who thinks his accent sounds like that fish from American Dad?

I bought this back when it was released and I´m really satisfied with it. I don't think there will be a new nexus until next year.
GREAT REVIEW! Lots of information, clear and concise opinions and generally it gave a large amount of insight into the design and functionality of the phone

yes, you can go on the android market[google play now] and get yahoo mail and other similar apps
@LazeX7 its width has 720 pixels and height 1280 pixels. You couldnt understand it even when he used his index finger pointing left to right sayin 720 pixels and top to bottom 1280 pixels?
i love this guy, he goes way back reviewing for phonearena. His voice is the original soul for phonearena
The Galaxy is and will stay an amazing phone. Also, don't worry about the updates, you'll get them all! Love it since first day!
I have had this phone since the first week it came out. does the pull down toggle have the wireless and stuff? I don't really want to user a widget on the desktop for that (like android 2.5)
Any idea when ICS will come to the Nexus S 4g ? I know it won't be that long but I'm SOO excited I just need a time frame.
I'm also asking this question. If you have the money get S3. Unfortunately i don't, so I'll just settle with nexus.
do you know when flash will be available ?? and.. galaxy s2 or nexus 2 .... i have to choose tomnmorow!
Kept my 3GS in perfect good fit until this day, now that it's time to move on, I will be ordering this phone now since I've been hearing some great features about it :)
There is no navigational buttons on Camera app at 13:00 How do you exit from there?
two questions for anyone to answer. whats ppi, what does it stand for, and how does it changes our experience? and what are widgets and how do you use them and any other noteable information. thanks for any helpful answer
sorry for dumb question, but will gnexus receive 4.2 update too? really considering to buy this one
I really like the form factor of the nexus prime/galaxy nexus but I have played with one in the shop and the plastic feels kind if cheap which is disappointing and no micro-sd expansion slot? That's a fail for what is supposedly a flagship phone. Love the curved screen.
Why did you have to use a live wallpaper?! It really slow it down, especially that one.
I'm getting this phone tomorrow! I can't wait!!!
@Werchio i know what you mean i had an old phone too but i had the extra money so I bought an S2 with no contract so I could use it on the S3, which is going to be the best phone by far when it comes out, but thats not until summer probably. Then I'll sell the S2 on ebay for a couple hundred.

@mrryanwhitmore does the nexus right now in the States have Jellybean? Like if i were to buy it instore or online would it have 4.1?
He didn't even talk about some of the things that I wanted to hear about. can't decide between this one and the LG optimus 4. any thoughts?

Best cell phone (Not on this list)-Samsung Galaxy SIII
-Best of luck choosing you're cellphone, but I'm looking forward to buy a Nexus because it's slightly smaller than a SIII & Note and it actually fits for me. And I don't really care about how old each smartphone is because I'm looking for the phone which suites me.
Does this now come with 4.1 out of the box, or do you have to update it once you get to 4.1
They do...if you buy it direct from Google @ the Google Play store. Just search for "Google Samsung Nexus". Only 399.99 and is unlocked for ATT or T-moible.

@xmripper They reappear when you touch in that area,
by far the nicest phone and interface I've ever seen... great work by samsung and google
you mentioned that nexus phones are released with the lates android version but where is the nexus tablet for android 3.0?
i guess the Xoom was the honeycomb nexus tablet substitute 🤷♂️
Phone Arena-The best reviewer on youtube! PERIOD
Doesn't the gs2 run touchwiz so then it wouldn't run a complete version of ics?
no sim card slot? I think you guys are trying to say it hasn't microsd card slot, aren't you?
They were smart to not let the home-screen rotate....better keep that lag in check...I want to see what this runs like on the S2...
thinking about selling my ASUS transformer 1 with keyboard to get this. I've never had a smartphone before and really want one. would it be worth it?
Man, cant wait to update my SGS2 to ICS! It looks sweet.
Id get it but my upgrade will be around when the next nexus comes out which will beat even the s3
@kazora1001
kinda same here, im used to my middle button on the SGS1 and SGS2 I owned.
That coupled with the sound hardware bug that 'should' be fixed with a software fix, annoys me as hell..

you mean the LG Nexus 4, right?
or the LG Optimus G...
you are wrong about the on screen buttons!
@INsaneALLme It will be announced at MWC in Feb. Probs come out Aprl/May in UK
What would be better? Galaxy Nexus or HTC One S? Did research, still confused and can't decide which to get.
I love watching HD videos on the Galaxy Nexus. This phone is awesome. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a contract free phone plan.
does this phone use a normal sim card size or the mirosim card size?
@INsaneALLme it wil be released in mwc in late feb
nodoubtgenious. dude i totally dont even remember posting that theyre both awesomei cant decide and i currently have a nexus s so i wouldnt know anything about touchwiz
nexus does have a sim card and works fine with att
should i buy the galaxy nexus or wait for the newest nexus to come out? i dont know what to do!!!

just 1 mistake:
it's an 8 mp camera not 5 :)
Is the battery life that bad as everybody complains? Please users of Galaxy Nexus respond. I'm average user - talking, little emails, little social. And my Blackberry 9700 gives me 3-4days with one charge.
Thank you!
@TheAndroidEnthusiast you can always flash an ics rom
should i get this one or the SII ??
Is the capacitive button part of the 4.65' screen??
12y late but nope, its part of the OS!
The curve glass is called innovation. The soft keys are more responsive than haptic feedback keys or hard keys, & ICS is the ish. Stop complaining about build quality. @AlexSageMode How is that??? Please explain??

@domdom87 my phone runs gingerbread but since it also runs sense I don't have the complete vanilla android experience. So I was just thinking itd be the same with other things like touchwiz because it isn't vanilla Android.
I haven't finished the video...does he blow it up at the end???!!!
Good phone guys. i got one... best smartphone ever, except the SD card thing... i thinks its better than my HTC and my sisters iPhone 4S...
I'm glad you guys like the phone !
@thenazgullord : you got every point right. Phonearena really should stop criticizing all the other cell phones that are not Apple based on this unnecessary evaluation.
@sniper1087 lol I know I'm waiting on the Galaxy S3, I'm a proud owner of the original Galaxy S.
good review! like the details
Help mi. When i take foto .I cannot delete .where has written auto backup.how can
Nice review, watching this with my g.nex
1:36 720x1280?! isn't it 1280x720?!
@VraiDiouf The Nexus still performs better. Doesn't matter if the processor is "superior".
Does this phone support FLAC audio playback?
how are you liking it so far?
@XnolovelostX1 yeah ur exactly right if u want to have ics xperience then go for it but remeber its not better than s2 then u will be happy...
@navglad uh durable material like glass? really?
Does this phone have built-in GPS/Navigator?
Even though the s3 is out? Wow, it IS still a good phone.
