Here's a revolutionary idea: Put a link to Part 2 in the description for Part 1, or as an annotation. TH-cam's suggestion system sucks so hard half the time it doesn't recommend Part 2.
11:52 it's not a "task killer" per se, but rather a quick app switching interface, in which swiping the apps away simply removes them from the list and ends any background processes. basically, its purpose is not for you to click it once, remove all the running apps, and be done... like you did in the video
@Hazzarddu My original post was just stating that ICS doesn't kill processes when you swipe them off the list, it merely removes them from the multitasking view - therefor if you do use a app killer, then you should probably keep it. If you don't use an app killer than like you said as an android user you can use the phone as you please... I was just stating that if you use one, get it again, if you don't, dont worry about it.
this is designed specifically for developers. the bootloader is unlockable with a single fastboot command and lockable just as easily. the whole point of a Nexus device is, in fact, android development, custom ROMs, kernels, etc.
Reason the settings button is inconsistent is because most apps are not yet optimized for ICS yet. I can't believe all the reviews are forgetting about that. Once the app is updated it will look like the Google apps that come on the phone witch are consistent.
I just got my hands on a Nexus, and i am simply amazed. I am a graphic designer living in Atlanta, and i use my Nexus for work every day. This phone's amazing capabilities along with AT&T's 4G LTE network make my life/work easier. Long live Google!
@maxisma i see your point, but the only thing that happens from killing an application is it closes and free's up ram. Free'd up ram IS good, idk where you got that notion that it's bad because you're wrong... Unless its an app like gmail, youtube, music, or something you are constantly using and having to launch then there is no down side to killing an app. After you close the app the only thing is it takes time to re-execute itself and launch, but when you have a dual core processor who cares
Am I wrong or better yet, is John Rettinger wrong when he said that the "task killer" doesn't end the applicant from running. It just removes it from the task bar...
@animelova11 It's exclusive to Verizon. You can buy the GSM version that will work on either AT&T or T-Mobile but you'll have to pay full price for it.
Do you think that when they release 4.0 for phones like the Razr and Rezound that they will use the on screen buttons or the preexisting buttons??? I would hate to have the screen size reduced to incorporate these "new" buttons onto the screens of the other phones... Thoughts???
I like stock ICS, hope HTC doesn't completely murder it on the Rezound add some sense stuff but leave a lot alone. And supposedly the rezound is the second device that'll get ics.
Having used this phone, I can't help but think that Android could have made a bit more productive use if the on screen buttons. They could have added a bit of eye candy by making one of the buttons flash for something.
Dealbreaker for me was the camera, not exactly sure why they chose to put a 5 mp camera in this device when so many others that came out around the same time had an 8 mp camera
@kron1270 The phone is $600 in Canada so probably cheaper in the states. The cheapest imac is 1200 and that ones probably sucks. Also, the 64gb iphone costs $850.
@jacobsonandroid From what I've read from Android developers on the internets is that the swipe calls finish() on every screen of the app, so it's like going into the application and pressing back until you're back at the home screen.. Another user said that the 'ps' linux terminal command no longer reports the process running after swiping.
@trinity5227 A lot of android phones, even the 1.2 ghz dual core ones lag a bit because the modifications manufacturers make to android like sense and moto blur. The Stock android 4.0 interface does not lag. I did experience one slowdown while the phone was installing several apps from the market, but aside from that its the smoothest phone ive ever used, and ive used every iphone to date, and several android phones
@maxisma and if you don't have a dual core processor, odds are is that you don't have alot of ram either so killing processes is even MORE critical to operate your device without having little hesitations...
I have the Nexus S phone and it has the stock version of Android 2.3. It was mentioned that this phone has the stock version of 4.0. Once that gets released to all Android phones, is the look of this stock 4.0 going to transfer over to the Nexus S or am I still going to keep the current stock 2.3 look regardless?
And does Aaron realize he's famous in his own right LOL. A lot of us really wait on his reviews like a tv show, I know I do. So hats off to Aaron we like the videos and look forward to seeing them all the time.
i say get the one GNexus, ur transformer prime is going to be wildly different from the nexus, while the iphone 4s is identical to the ipod touch in user interface.... if not, just go with the one that you have most of your apps invested in so that you'll be better synced
@tha1b1 Sure you got the Galaxy S first, but we got the Sensation in june. Do you guys even have an equivalent for the Mytouch4g slide or Amaze 4g? Yeah I thought not. Touche on the Optimus not that I really care, if I wanted HD and LTE right now I could walk into any verizon store and get a Rezound running the same chipsetl. You'll still be paying more with data and contract fees and be doing so for longer when all is said and done. So you might as well go kick rocks.
@YoyosAreBest Yeah I'm only 16 too, but yes it does because for smartphones (and above) you have to pay for data, which can vary from 500mb to 1gb to whatever.... Generally you're looking at a $50 to $60 odd dollar bill with a smartphone, opposed to $35 with a regular mobile phone
hey Aaron ima big fan of your videos! but can you please answer my question? how far will the galaxy nexus update its android, because im debating rather to get it or not?
@TheWhiteout60 Not sure about the pricing on Verizon, however since I've been paying an additional 120.00 per year for 4G that I've used ONCE I'm willing to pony up the extra coin.
@renkinjutsu01 hmm interesting - im grabbing a nexus s and galaxy nexus after a few months when it drops here... from what i've heard is it loops the process meaning storing a major cache in the ram so when it launches it uses that to start it back up - the process thing is true, but i haven't looked into the finish hook - interesting, thanks for the post
It will work with AT&T's "4G" HSPA+ network, but not the 4G LTE network. I also noticed you said you were thinking of getting AT&T for this phone. I highly suggest you get T-Mobile's Prepaid plan thats only $30 a month for 5GB of 4G speed, which will work for the GNex, and unlimited text, downside though is only 100 (or 1000?) minutes of talk, but still quite a deal. Look more into it and im sure you'll feel it'd be a wise and wallet-friendly decision. Hope that helps (:
Nexus... "center." Well, not in my life, unfortunately. I want it on AT&T's 4G LTE!!! I'm still on SIII in NYC. I also need it to be a LOT cheaper. These phones have got to come down in price. when will that happen?
Thumbs this up so everyone knows: The task "killer" on ice cream sandwich does not actually kill the processes it just removes them from the multi-tasking. You do still need a task killer if you actually want to end those applications.
I wonder if it really does kill the running apps or just puts it to sleep. Because if you ask any real Android or Linux user they'll tell you not to use a task killer.
Both phones are good. They pretty much have the same specs. 1GB of ram and dual core processors. The only main differences are the HD screen on the Nexus and vanilla Android on the nexus.
how can i change the settings of the messaging in my nexus? because my sent messages is on the right while the received messages is on the left.. i bought mine in singapore, how can i make my sent messages on the left side while the received messages on the right side?? thanks :D
What phone should I get and I'm in the UK. Also I cant buy the s3 or 4s. So I thought of buying this nexus or iPhone 4? Which one!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Here's a revolutionary idea: Put a link to Part 2 in the description for Part 1, or as an annotation. TH-cam's suggestion system sucks so hard half the time it doesn't recommend Part 2.
11:52 it's not a "task killer" per se, but rather a quick app switching interface, in which swiping the apps away simply removes them from the list and ends any background processes.
basically, its purpose is not for you to click it once, remove all the running apps, and be done... like you did in the video
this is the first review I've watched in a longg time and holy crap, Aaron is so small!!
Actually the "open apps" menu isn't a task killer. It just displays recent apps, but if you slid one off, it doesn't kill the task.
I was just stating that if you use one, get it again, if you don't, dont worry about it.
the one from the play store definitely does. i have it a foot away from me running on a monthly4G sim.
this is designed specifically for developers. the bootloader is unlockable with a single fastboot command and lockable just as easily. the whole point of a Nexus device is, in fact, android development, custom ROMs, kernels, etc.

@bmorefranklucas the unlocked retail price in the UK is $808, according to Google. (It's £515 from Amazon.)
I just got my hands on a Nexus, and i am simply amazed. I am a graphic designer living in Atlanta, and i use my Nexus for work every day. This phone's amazing capabilities along with AT&T's 4G LTE network make my life/work easier. Long live Google!
@Bananas138 no. You would have to buy the gsm version, which is very expensive. Verizon phones are not compatible with tmobile service
@maxisma i see your point, but the only thing that happens from killing an application is it closes and free's up ram. Free'd up ram IS good, idk where you got that notion that it's bad because you're wrong... Thank you for finally addressing the menu button issue with the 3 buttons.
aaron u always do the best reviews
Am I wrong or better yet, is John Rettinger wrong when he said that the "task killer" doesn't end the applicant from running. It just removes it from the task bar...
@animelova11
It's exclusive to Verizon. You can buy the GSM version that will work on either AT&T or T-Mobile but you'll have to pay full price for it.

No, it's actually running Android Ice Crean Sandwich 4.0.1 with the Android Vanilla UI.
I like stock ICS, hope HTC doesn't completely murder it on the Rezound add some sense stuff but leave a lot alone. And supposedly the rezound is the second device that'll get ics.
Okay...I'm really interested in it! Is it in a retail packaging (original box) and brand-new? i really don't want a used phone..
What other major networks is this phone coming to? Sprint ???!!!! I know there is a Nexus there but I would love to have this one
@kron1270
The phone is $600 in Canada so probably cheaper in the states. The cheapest imac is 1200 and that ones probably sucks.
Also, the 64gb iphone costs $850.
@SKBMisha That fee for sprint is not for 4g it is solely for unlimited data. Verizon on the other hand is beyond expensive. Good luck
@jacobsonandroid From what I've read from Android developers on the internets is that the swipe calls finish() on every screen of the app, so it's like going into the application and pressing back until you're back at the home screen..
Another user said that the 'ps' linux terminal command no longer reports the process running after swiping.
@MrShredington shouldnt it be the other way around? "I owned the Nexus BEFORE it went mainstream."
Dammmmm I was watching your older videos and u changed a lot
@trinity5227 A lot of android phones, even the 1.2 ghz dual core ones lag a bit because the modifications manufacturers make to android like sense and moto blur. The Stock android 4.0 interface does not lag. So there's going to be an LTE version of this phone released? I haven't seen any yet.
Question: Why is the nexus line so popular among all the other smartphones?
i say get the one GNexus, ur transformer prime is going to be wildly different from the nexus, while the iphone 4s is identical to the ipod touch in user interface....
if not, just go with the one that you have most of your apps invested in so that you'll be better synced
What's up with the 5mp camera?
Just a random point of curiosity. how come they use Ti processors now. what happened to samsung's own exynos chip? does Ti faster? cheaper?
thinking about buying this device, singe it is a lot cheaper now. BUT, the galaxy note seems great to! which one should i choose?
Wow I'm learning so many new things about my phone from this review. Can't wait for part 2. Lol.
Is this phone Exclusive for Verizon? Or there will be GSM model available soon?
One thing this phone has that I never saw on any other phone. On the camcorder you can zoom in while you're recording.
It's an amazing phone coming from someone who owned a galaxy nexus. The nexus 4 is a huge improvement.
@onDishez Battery is but unfortunately there is no SD card slot. You're stuck with the 16 or 32gb internal.
Dude, The Video Gallery Back Ground looks so cool, what is the name of the gallery pic?
anyone know?
I must have it on my gallery collection!
hey Aaron ima big fan of your videos! but can you please answer my question?
how far will the galaxy nexus update its android, because im debating rather to get it or not?
thats a nice wallpaper, do you have a link to it?
Aaron, make videos on workout regimes and lifestyle changes to look awesome
Nexus for the win. But why don't you buy a S3?
how do you make text messages be able to go past 180 characters when typing a long message?
i love this thing to death. the easiest phone to mod of all phones, a true Nexus device. maguro for life.
@bmorefranklucas thats only if you buy it without signing a contract/ upgrading. most phones cost that much nowadays
Is there a limit on how many apps and widgets you have on the menu screen?
@TheWhiteout60 Not sure about the pricing on Verizon, however since I've been paying an additional 120.00 per year for 4G that I've used ONCE I'm willing to pony up the extra coin.
@renkinjutsu01 hmm interesting - im grabbing a nexus s and galaxy nexus after a few months when it drops here... from what i've heard is it loops the process meaning storing a major cache in the ram so when it launches it uses that to start it back up - the process thing is true, but i haven't looked into the finish hook - interesting, thanks for the post
love the animation when locking the screen. cant wait till ics release for s2 (:
Hey im getting a upgrade from sprint and im wondering if i should get this or the photon q.
Can you help me decide. thanks
It will work with AT&T's "4G" HSPA+ network, but not the 4G LTE network.
I also noticed you said you were thinking of getting AT&T for this phone. I highly suggest you get T-Mobile's Prepaid plan thats only $30 a month for 5GB of 4G speed, which will work for the GNex, and unlimited text, downside though is only 100 (or 1000?) minutes of talk, but still quite a deal. that time it takes to reach the galaxy when I buy nexus for google play. in the hypothetical case that is in Miami. please help me
@HotChowder123 its not only megapixels also the sensor
@phonedog can you use a t-mobile pre paid sim card on the galaxy nexus?
Awesome review as usual man! But hey, you changed a lot physically, you are super skinny now, kinda shocked me a little bit!
Thumbs this up so everyone knows:
The task "killer" on ice cream sandwich does not actually kill the processes it just removes them from the multi-tasking. You do still need a task killer if you actually want to end those applications.
that was the price almost 3 years ago, Nowadays is like $250
@MrPhantom19 I know. That's why I was asking, since I don't own one and never have. Are they normally this expensive.
I wonder if it really does kill the running apps or just puts it to sleep. Because if you ask any real Android or Linux user they'll tell you not to use a task killer.
why dont u use the facial recognition software?????
is this a review of nexus or ics ?????????????
@frostman645
i think kuz weight of the phone will increase if the camera is enhanced
I like the animated rotation of the display and also the other things !!!
are the on screen buttons annoying? as far as like typing and accidentally hitting them?
@will2pox2 the 800$ price tag is for an unlocked phone ... not everybody wants to get onto another 3 year plan.
@jacobsonandroid It was a comment by Dan Morrill in the android subreddit.
Both phones are good. They pretty much have the same specs. 1GB of ram and dual core processors. The only main differences are the HD screen on the Nexus and vanilla Android on the nexus.
@jayr122001 not really, because the buttons go away while watching videos and some other apps.
And wat about atrix 2? Has it got ics out with the box?
What about Voice Control with Ice Cream? Not dictation. Music player.. like "play artist iron maiden".?? Thanx
so if i buy the unlocked gsm from the google play store... would i get 4g t-mobile?
Wait so im guessing this is a world phone bt i use alot of world phones bt it always uses edge , this uses the 4g / 3g from t-mobile?
how can i change the settings of the messaging in my nexus?
because my sent messages is on the right while the received messages is on the left.. i bought mine in singapore, how can i make my sent messages on the left side while the received messages on the right side?? thanks :D
Just another suggestion... The Galaxy S III will be announced the 3rd of May =)
@ondishez we should wait for the droid 4 if you want a KILLER keyboard

it's not a task killer Aaron. why you don't know this?
Gettin it today hope I don't get too many headaches as far as battery is concerned
Help me out to choose between nexus or atrix2 or htc evo3d or intel xolo or optimus 2x which is best

I can't wait to get this phone for 50 bucks so freaking excited I played with it in Verizon I love the google now it's ROCKS!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!
can you manage a google apps domain on this phone
Which is the better choice this or the HTC one S? please note that i will be buying the phone unlocked so the carrier will not be a factor
What phone should I get and I'm in the UK. Also I cant buy the s3 or 4s. So I thought of buying this nexus or iPhone 4? Which one!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Looks like at 7:50 - the phones transition from portrait to landscape doesn't work to well. *sigh*
i have the galaxy s2 but having widgets and apps is preety much useless as widgets are shortcuts to apps atleast for me? correct me if i am wrong
