Oh how I feel nostalgic for this device. The video somehow ended up on my main feed. It was my first ever smartphone and I honestly miss it from time to time. Between that and the Droid DNA. Unfortunately, after the Note 7 blunder, I swapped to iOS and haven’t looked back. Miss this phone most definitely
I bought one at its release. The Motorola Droid RAZR was the phone to own in 2011. I enthusiastically and fondly recall mine. My stepdaughter lost my RAZR in late 2012 when I put her device on my phone plan. Hmm. Live and learn. I have every phone that I have ever purchased dating back to my first Samsung clamshell-style in May of 2000; save for this Motorola Droid RAZR. I just bought one from eBay which was listed as "New" in their classification ranking. Looking forward to its arrival. I still have the 16gb micro SD card from my RAZR which has been sitting in my nightstand drawer, labeled, in a container, waiting for something to do.
This was the best review on the Droid RAZR I've seen so far! Thanks! I'm still on the fence about this and the Galaxy Nexus. However, this gave me a lot of information I didn't have before. I appreciate you going into such detail! -T
can I just say this is the most comprehensive, well constructed, best voiced of any product review I've ever seen on youtube, you basically show every aspect of this phone in a concise manner. thanks :)
Love this phone! Got it for Christmas and it is amazing. Works fast. Fits easily in a pocket or backpack pocket and can handle everything that you need for your day to day life. I bought the commuter otterbox for it and it gives the phone a strong feeling. If you want a great and durable touch screen then get this phone.
@20kamal12 It doesn't take up 8 gigs. Furthermore if you're really paranoid about storage you can simply increase the size of the memory card they give you.
@shelbycates I never use both of the phones but I think you should go for the Motorola Droid Razr because it is a new handset while Samsung Galaxy S2 is almost an one year phone already. It's just my opinion.
How's the battery life? I have a T-Mobile (HTC) g2 which used to be lousy, a bit better with the gingerbread update. Problably getting a razr or a samsung after Christmas.
People must be running out of things to complain about so they resort to one's voice. Thanks for the video, definitely gonna get me one of these pretty soon.
I bought the Droid RAZR from Rogers in Canada yesterday. I love it! Build quality is superb! Screen display is just as good as the Galaxy S2. Call quality & RF is excellent. Web browsing is fast. Speaker is loud and crisp. I highly recommend the phone. The Rogers version does not have LTE so battery life will be better.
Yeah, it is. Only major difference is the custom themes (eclipse looks prettier imo) and the android version they're based on (eclipse is based on gingerbread and aokp is based on ics). I would get aokp because of the ics features, but from what I've read the latest version isn't stable on the razr yet. The install process for them would be identical.
@predatordes but it doesn't has 16 gb memory.. A User will get only 8 gb to store/use...rest of 8 gb is used by moto apps. even iphone 4 takes 2.3 gb for apps, rest of 13.7 gb is there for photos/videos etc.
@wirelessgal17 I'm considering to get Droid Razr too because of the gorgeous design! But What about the pinch to zoom functionality? If you check out 04:43 of this video, it seems choppy and laggy. This is quite a major disappointment for me.
the contract systems binds you to a network for a certain number of years. and they can sell them normally, they do, but then you pay exorbitant rates and will most probably spend the same amount on the subscription too.
It's awesome. You also have the option of turning on the battery saver, which really comes in handy. Movies and videos don't kill the battery life quickly either.
@cherrybombaz I agree compared to SGS2, let's not compare it to the simplistic iPhone though, iPhone dossn't have enough features to really test it's true strength. One can even say it's pinch to zoom is laggy compared to Windows Phone.
@AlexSageMode How is galaxy nexus laggy? prove it please because im thinking of either getting iphone 4s or galaxy nexus, but just waiting for the release and review of galaxy nexus to be 100% sure which phone im going to buy.
was wondering.. im not really a huge fan of the iphones anymore.. they havent changed much since they first came out.. but i do not have a pc i have a mac.. how much compatibility does this phone have with mac/itunes??
it's a modded firmware for a few different droid phones, based on the android OS. it still runs all the apps an android runs, including google apps, but it takes up less memory, runs faster, and looks better. there are videos on youtube that teach you how to install it, as well as many sets of instructions on the internet.
Its really down to you. BUT you will probably be happy with either, saying that, I would head towards the razor, just because of how amazing it is, and it just looks so, thin, and sleek. It just looks like a must have item. I sure want one :P
So how common is the razr's LCD cracking problem? Like, how people won't drop their razr, but there'll be a crack on it randomly usually underneath the gorilla glass. I'm thinking about getting it, but now I'm not too sure.
@Hazy992 Think about currency converter, a typical estimate for a phone such as this is about £35 a month from free with not so many data allowance, texts or/and minutes. in the US its just a different system, they probably get a expensive phone with a cheap monthly bill, remember $50 is almost like £35.
@ExMaster Yea, verizon sure made it hard for us to choose :/ Im kinda leaning towards the iphone simply for the less lag it has when scrolling webpages and the siri.
@30s30 When it comes to OS updates, Android fails miserably. I'm pretty sure they said around April to get ICS on GS II?? That's a lifetime in smart phone time.
decided to buy this phone a couple days ago, and i have no regrets. the only downside is motorola's custom UI, which I really didn't like. I recommend rooting the phone and installing eclipse mod (which is not only BEAUTIFUL, but runs quite fast).
@MrSquareZNation No worries mate, i've just shared my opinion and the fact that i agree with u. also, i run a custom rom and change my themes very often.
Love my razr!!!!! I learned some tips about extending my battery and it lasts a good bit, some smartphone noobs need to spent less time rating the phone bad and more time Googling battery life extenders
Ive owned a razr for a lil over a week now and the camera is pretty well the video camera is awesome the front camera is also pretty good and the call quality is pretty good and the battery life well im constantly on it between Facebook, tsxting and video call it lasts till probaly 10 to 12 hours
i think i'm gonna go for the motorola razr. i don't wanna get the mainstream nexus just cause it's a nexus.. i like less popular brands.. and from other videos i've seen that compare the two, the razr's layout and look just looks nicer
I thought Motorola said they would bring out a phone that would beat the Galaxy S2 in every aspect? Besides the thin profile exactly how does it beat the Galaxy S2?
@Curtisthecrumble Not really. The Razr is faster, thinner, lighter, has longer theoretical battery life, more durable, has an HDMI out, memory card slot, 4GLTE connectivity and costs the same amount to buy outright. I signed up for a new Verizon contract two days ago and I had the iPhone as an option. I at first got the Bionic, then looked at the Razr and decided to swap it for that.
@jcjr87 But Samsung Galaxy S2 was released in my country at April 2011. It is an 8 months old phone. So I am correct. It's almost an one year old phone.
@TheHorrorTastic yeah but dude how do you put music on it the? its on the micro sd i know but is it just like a normal hard drive where you transfer shit back n forth?
I used to have one from Nov 2011-Nov 2013 when I switched to iPhone 5 and now I use a Samsung Galaxy S4. If I didn't break the screen, I would still use it. For its time this was ahead.
@SweetNikkiRoxxx in canada too.. i really wanted it but not being LTE kind of turned me away, that being said .. played around with it still an fun phone + LTE isnt in calgary yet so im not noticing a big change
Getting this phone on Wednesday! Woohoo. I had the stratosphere before, and it just stopped working, even the Verizon workers couldn't fix it, so can anyone tell me the difference between that phone and this one?
Very fast and battery life is pretty good, but if battery is a big deal get the razr maxx which is exactly the same but with a battery that lasts 3x as long as any phone on the market
I've had this phone for a year and used the nexus for a couple days, and imo the razr beats it in every way...better build quality, screen, call quality, faster performance...I can't comment on the camera as I hardly use it
Oh how I feel nostalgic for this device. The video somehow ended up on my main feed. It was my first ever smartphone and I honestly miss it from time to time. Between that and the Droid DNA. Unfortunately, after the Note 7 blunder, I swapped to iOS and haven’t looked back. Miss this phone most definitely
Just randomly thought about this device and feels so good to have watched this in 20204. Pure nostalgia
I bought one at its release. The Motorola Droid RAZR was the phone to own in 2011. I enthusiastically and fondly recall mine. My stepdaughter lost my RAZR in late 2012 when I put her device on my phone plan. Hmm. Live and learn. nice
Can't wait I preordered the day preorders started !
Anyone in 2021? I Just bought one for my droid collection
This was the best review on the Droid RAZR I've seen so far! Thanks! I'm still on the fence about this and the Galaxy Nexus. However, this gave me a lot of information I didn't have before. I appreciate you going into such detail! -T
can I just say this is the most comprehensive, well constructed, best voiced of any product review I've ever seen on youtube, you basically show every aspect of this phone in a concise manner. thanks :)
If you could update a phones processor and ram like you do your pc or laptop, THIS would still be my phone.
yeah i love this phone i still have it
Please reply to this. Why int he WORLD is it so choppy when you zoom into a photo!?
Love this phone! Got it for Christmas and it is amazing. Works fast. Fits easily in a pocket or backpack pocket and can handle everything that you need for your day to day life. I bought the commuter otterbox for it and it gives the phone a strong feeling. If you want a great and durable touch screen then get this phone.
Best review I have seen so far and has sold me on using this as my business phone and keeping my iPhone 4 as personal .. Great Job!
I have been waiting forever for this review!
It's just my opinion.
dude i love the camera that your recording on. you can see a dust particle actually fall on the phone at 11:30
Thanks for the review phonearena!
How's the battery life? I have a T-Mobile (HTC) g2 which used to be lousy, a bit better with the gingerbread update. Problably getting a razr or a samsung after Christmas.
I am on Rogers...All you have to do is go to updates section in settings and download the ics update
do you need to have internet and netflix? like other companies? and how much do you pay monthly
People must be running out of things to complain about so they resort to one's voice.
Thanks for the video, definitely gonna get me one of these pretty soon.
@C3oi I have this phone and I use it pretty heavily, I haven't had any problems with overheating, I love this phone! Typing on it right now
Getting this Phone tomorrow! So excited!
I bought the Droid RAZR from Rogers in Canada yesterday. I love it! Build quality is superb! Screen display is just as good as the Galaxy S2. Call quality & RF is excellent. Web browsing is fast. Beautiful Droid. I'm getting one soon. She will be added to my collection of Droids. Already have a RAZR Maxx HD
@predatordes but it doesn't has 16 gb memory.. A User will get only 8 gb to store/use...rest of 8 gb is used by moto apps. even iphone 4 takes 2.3 gb for apps, rest of 13.7 gb is there for photos/videos etc.

Grew up with this phone when I was 6 lol, it was my dad's old phone, and I stuck with Motorola since. Right now have the Motorola edge
@cherrybombaz I agree compared to SGS2, let's not compare it to the simplistic iPhone though, iPhone dossn't have enough features to really test it's true strength. One can even say it's pinch to zoom is laggy compared to Windows Phone.
Love it had mines for a week now
When do you upgrade? Plus when I upgrade in June 2014 should I get a RAZR, galaxy s3, galaxy s4, HTC 8x (windows phone) or iPhone 5
@AlexSageMode How is galaxy nexus laggy? prove it please because im thinking of either getting iphone 4s or galaxy nexus, but just waiting for the release and review of galaxy nexus to be 100% sure which phone im going to buy.
It doesn't lag when you zoom a picture - it zooms step by step so it's nothing wrong with the zoom.
Thumbs up so everyone can see it!
was wondering.. im not really a huge fan of the iphones anymore.. they havent changed much since they first came out.. but i do not have a pc i have a mac.. how much compatibility does this phone have with mac/itunes??
This doesn't seem much different from my Droid X 1. Would this be a smart upgrade, or should I wait for something better to come along?
So, your opinion between the Droid Razr and the Droid Incredible?
I got the razr maxx, hands down the best but i'm a huge nit picker so I only wish the resolution could be higher and ics came as stock built
Im in shock with the quality of the camera that u use for the videos 0.0.. its awesome.. what camera do u use??..
it's a modded firmware for a few different droid phones, based on the android OS. it still runs all the apps an android runs, including google apps, but it takes up less memory, runs faster, and looks better. there are videos on youtube that teach you how to install it, as well as many sets of instructions on the internet.
Depends, if you need large memory get razr, xperia P looks slimmer and has no MicroSD slot
Its really down to you. BUT you will probably be happy with either, saying that, I would head towards the razor, just because of how amazing it is, and it just looks so, thin, and sleek. It just looks like a must have item. I sure want one :P
You can get winamp, then import your itunes library to it, then change the droid to mass storage mode, and use that as a music device in winamp
So how common is the razr's LCD cracking problem? Like, how people won't drop their razr, but there'll be a crack on it randomly usually underneath the gorilla glass. I'm thinking about getting it, but now I'm not too sure.
@germany688 there's nothing but a picture of a flower on screen at 4:52, i have no idea what you're talking about
@Hazy992 Think about currency converter, a typical estimate for a phone such as this is about £35 a month from free with not so many data allowance, texts or/and minutes. in the US its just a different system, they probably get a expensive phone with a cheap monthly bill, remember $50 is almost like £35.
@jcjr87 actually it's 6 months old (May 2011), not everything is centred around the US :)
@ExMaster Yea, verizon sure made it hard for us to choose :/ Im kinda leaning towards the iphone simply for the less lag it has when scrolling webpages and the siri.
@Ioserbam this is the shizzle! the kevlar is ingenious. this should be on top at the moment.
I just go this phone today. So good so far. I have until Friday to return it for a iphone 4. Good or bad idea?
When do you expect for the phone to get an upgrade to Android 4.0?
is the 4g lte an extra caust like for the Sim card or is it all included in teh package
Do you think this phone will find its way to New Zealand?
I am in love with it!
I am leaving Sprint and my EVO. Will I be happy with the Razr?
@MrSquareZNation No worries mate, i've just shared my opinion and the fact that i agree with u. also, i run a custom rom and change my themes very often.
I still use this as my main phone but with CM 13.1 on it
doesnt it make it slower? or make the battery drain faster? because i want to install it on my xt912
Yes and yes, but it does bring new life to the phone tho.
Dude looks like you crapped all over your username
Im switching from tmobile to verizon in a month. Any ideas on which phone to get? Im stuck between iphone 4gs and the droid razr :/
Its been out for like a year and a half and its still still one of the sickest phones.
Love my razr!!!!! I learned some tips about extending my battery and it lasts a good bit, some smartphone noobs need to spent less time rating the phone bad and more time Googling battery life extenders
Cool review. I think this has helped me decide which new phone to go with.
i always love to watch PhoneArena thanks you
Ive owned a razr for a lil over a week now and the camera is pretty well the video camera is awesome the front camera is also pretty good and the call quality is pretty good and the battery life well im constantly on it between Facebook, tsxting and video call it lasts till probaly 10 to 12 hours
i was wondering, how come during the comparison of thickness xperia arcS was not mentioned?
i think i'm gonna go for the motorola razr. i don't wanna get the mainstream nexus just cause it's a nexus.. i like less popular brands.. and from other videos i've seen that compare the two, the razr's layout and look just looks nicer
whats a tmobile add doing on a verison phone review and i have htc vivid the look alot alike
Wow, John sure can talk non-stop! Great info guy, nice presentation!!
@mlscott567
do you if the Iphone 4s is 4G ? i heard it wasnt i would think it would be a big mistake not to be !
@Dii1888 you have to hold in the power button and the two volume buttons all at the same time to do a "battery pull" on the RAZR. =) Hope this helps!
@jcjr87 But Samsung Galaxy S2 was released in my country at April 2011. It is an 8 months old phone. So I am correct. It's almost an one year old phone.
That depends on who you're buying from, I'm not sure about the prices in India, are you trying to buy it from an American company?
I just bought it a couple of days ago ...Very Happy with it =) The response rate is impeccable...
It is now 2021 📲📲📲📲📲📲📲📲📲
in the settings have to ticked autimatically make usb disk drive thing?
@TheHorrorTastic yeah but dude how do you put music on it the? its on the micro sd i know but is it just like a normal hard drive where you transfer shit back n forth?
@NanDeSuKa84 I think the lag is caused by the app, because that was the ONLY thing that was choppy.
Thank you for your excellent review of this phone, clear, concise and strait to the point! Excellent work!! Thank you sir!
I used to have one from Nov 2011-Nov 2013 when I switched to iPhone 5 and now I use a Samsung Galaxy S4. If I didn't break the screen, I would still use it. For its time this was ahead.
What do you think about how the battery isn't removable so if the battery breaks what do you do?
If I connect this to my Xbox, will I be able tyo play the music from the RAZR on the Xbox? Plus, does Motocast work with Xbox as well?
@SweetNikkiRoxxx in canada too.. i really wanted it but not being LTE kind of turned me away, that being said .. played around with it still an fun phone + LTE isnt in calgary yet so im not noticing a big change
Great review! Covered detailed and resourceful information. Thanks.
awesome review!! good work my man!!
Why are US contracts so expensive? Here in the UK you can get almost any phone free on contract. It seems a bit unfair really.
the one i want from an android phone is longer batt life and fast internet.... is this good for that purposes???
Damn tough under rated glass screen
Oh man....i did it again. I'm in the past again. Eerie.
Nah I found my old one I have 2 one won’t stop boot looping and the other works fine just is a lil slow compared to my iPhone 13
@@destinywilfongdo these still work on the Verizon network?
Great review, very thoroughly done. Thanks.
can I get that music player? It looks freaking awesome. is it an app?
Getting this phone on Wednesday! Woohoo. I had the stratosphere before, and it just stopped working, even the Verizon workers couldn't fix it, so can anyone tell me the difference between that phone and this one?
@mattb807 The phone is $299at verizon. To break contract for verizon is $350 but im sure att is the same. You can get the phone for $169 at wirefly.
Very fast and battery life is pretty good, but if battery is a big deal get the razr maxx which is exactly the same but with a battery that lasts 3x as long as any phone on the market
If u can't remove the battery then what is the desktop charger with extra battery for ...
whats the diffrence between this and the droid4
I've had this phone for a year and used the nexus for a couple days, and imo the razr beats it in every way...better build quality, screen, call quality, faster performance...I can't comment on the camera as I hardly use it
@MagicDrumSticks thats a good point. i didn't know about androids ics delay. thanks for the info. !
Can you give me a link to its web site or any info ?
