I am Christian, but am currently struggling with this story. The thing that's disconnecting me from this is Adam and Eve were tricked. Satan didn't go up to Eve and say 'hey, you should eat from that tree because I want you to.' Instead: “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen 3:4-5, NIV) She was lied to when she didn't have the knowledge to comprehend lying. If she doesn't know what evil and sin are, then she wouldn't understand that something could have the capacity to lie. Why is nudity, described as a sin here, forgivable because Adam and Eve didn't understand it, but getting tricked and lied to into eating this fruit while they're still innocent not?
I bring this up not to denounce the faith, but because I would genuinely like to be shown why my thinking is flawed. What am I missing? Why does this feel so wrong to me?

It's a paradox (mystery). If God created man and angels without freewill then there is no love, then with freewill man can reject God's laws and God Himself. Why? because He is God, and He says what is good and what is evil, and not us. Who tempted Lucifer to reject God? Did he tempted himself, freewill tempted him? Adam and Eve know what is good and what is evil or bad before they eat the fruit. The name 'Tree of knowledge of good and evil' is that they will see the effect of evil/sins after they break God's law. They were naked before, then after the sin they feel the effects, the shamefulness, nakedness. I guess only when they sinned, they can feel, see, taste thru the effect of sins, which might affect all things not just nakedness. Babies don't see or understand their shamefulness when they were naked until they grown up. Do thoughts come to us, or we think, and the thought/idea come about? There are thought that we don't want or not aware certainly come to mind. Are those evils thoughts from the devils or our memory or the bi products of memories that generated or from external stimuli? Adam and Eve knew what is good and evil before the serpent half lying to them, were they still tricked, or they have choices, and they choose to break the command? I think they are tempted but not tricked. "Tricked" seems to mean they have no choice, so they are not at fault, and not responsible or guilty of their action. Tree of knowledge of good and evil = moral principles. Eating the fruit of that tree = violate the moral principles (decide for ourselves what is good and evil, my way not your way, we still do that, eating that fruits, when we sinned)

"They exchanged the glory of the immortal God" for (something else), Romans 1:23, OR "they did not think it worthwhile to RETAIN the knowledge of God", Romans 1:28.
When you have something there is usually potential to lose it. But if you lose it, you usually have found something that you were willing to exchange for it. So everyone will someday stand before God with their own "pearl of great price" within their heart that could not be parted with at any cost.

The answers of how god didnt want us to be robots seems like such a cop out answer because if he would never have given the option of the tree we wouldnt even know there was that option. If he knew they would eat from the tree why would he force them to make a choice from the very beginning? What you're basically saying is that god himself knew that evil and corruption would plague the world, and he didn't do anything to stop it. What kind of "god" does that make him? All this to say that human beings tend to sin? It all sounds like a beautifully designed pretext to pave the way for religions.

Eating from the tree also opened their eyes to the knowledge Good as well. Prior to eating from the tree, it's unclear if the God mentioned, Adam, or Eve are actually "Good" or "Evil".
My question is: Why did the God mentioned NOT want them to be able to discern Good from evil? (Answer: Genesis 3:22?)
It is also important to note that what the snake told Eve was actually the truth and it seems the only reasons they would "surely die", is because the God actively prevented them from accessing the Tree of Life.
March 24, 2024 Edit: Consider this question: Is the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil just an exit out of ignorance?

The Bible explains that God purposely made the Law as a mirror to show us that we all need His salvation and help. Also, in my opinion, He knew Adam and Eve would eat the fruit, have their eyes open, and be like God. Therefore, He just wanted Satan to think it was his idea, and that he had won Earth. He even let's Satan be the God of this planet until Jesus takes it back, After the Great Tribulation. So yes, it was all God's plan for us to be considered all equally sinful so that we All realize we need His salvation. That way people who don't love Him will not be saved. So instead of getting mad at His plan, appreciate the genius of His plan, and humble yourselves before it is too late. God usually lets the devil think he is winning as apart of His strategy, just like when Jesus died on the Cross. Satan thought he had won again, just like he did in the Garden. God's ultimate plan is for us to be saved and be CO HEIRS WITH JESUS!!!! Blessed with every heavenly blessing. How can we be CO HEIRS with God Himself, without knowing the difference between Good and Evil? How can we relate to Jesus without being partakers of His suffering? How can we empathize with God over how He has been treated, if we are never mistreated? How can we understand betrayal. if we have never been betrayed? How can we know what heartbreak is, if we have never loved and had a broken heart? God has the same feelings He created us with, He was the first to be betrayed and broken hearted. He was the first parent to watch His children walk away. One third of the angels followed after Satan and his lies, and God is making sure that doesnt happen again in the PERFECT future that He has planned for us in AWESOME detail. He doesn't care that you aren't perfect. He just wants people to be humble enough to admit it, apologize, and accept God the Son, Jesus/Yeshua, as your savior. He took responsibility by paying the price for our sins. He bought us back from the god of this Earth (Satan) at the price of His life. He didn't come as a king living is luxury. He humbled Himself. He didn't have a wife, family, career, or any of the things we hold dear. He didn't even really want to make friends. He was here to save us. He is willing to save anyone if they will just accept HIM. I know His plan seems strange to us as humans, but it was the best way to save as many people as possible while letting the devil thinks he's winning. I hope this makes sense and helps someone that is confused and looking for answers. All who call upon the Name of Jesus will be saved. Much Love Beth

Beautiful Beth!! Although I might have to debate you on God not wanting to be friends with us. The cross was his way of reconciling with us. It was his way of wanting to fix the separation and essentially be friendly or have relationship with us.
But I think you just meant he was willing to be rejected on our behalf due to our ignorance. Tell me your thoughts!
He is good and knows exactly what he's doing!! Even the things we don't understand. I know I can trust his character!

@deanfry879 Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate that. I apologize if I sounded angry, it's just that I am seeing more and more that Christian culture is awash in party lines that many believe that the Spirit of Truth does not condone. This is one of them.
The knowledge of good and evil is a source of spiritual sustenance just as Christ is (John 6). Adam and Eve were partaking of Christ/God as their source of spiritual sustenance before they partook of the knowledge of good and evil. The disastrous results were, and are, evident.
It still applies today. Human beings can either partake of Jesus Christ as their source of life and strength and peace etc, or the knowledge of good and evil. And each has the same effect today as they did then.
Constant fighting and arguing over who is good and who is not in the church and outside of the church, on a personal level, on a cultural level, on a racial level, on a philosophical level, on a political level, on a denominational level, and on a national level is still causing spiritual death in people today, just as it did then. What's the alternative? Partaking of Christ, who unites us in love, which produces life.
When God tells us to either do something or not do something, He has VERY good reasons. It's the same as if I tell a child, "Don't eat too much sugar, or you'll have any number of health problems.
The SUBSTANCE of the disobedience was JUST AS MUCH OF A PROBLEM AS THE DISOBEDIENCE WAS.

  • @zxx5
    @zxx5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So in order to gain the knowledge of good and evil, was to eat of the fruit aka disobeying.
so *before* disobeying, were there any knowledge of good or evil?

    • @deanfry879
      @deanfry879 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Not for humans; or at most, they knew eating from that one tree was evil. (see Romans 4:15; 7:8). The tree could just as well have been called the Tree of the Law, since it is by law we know good from evil. When we make up our own rules, we make thing much worse.

    • @Phryxx0710
      @Phryxx0710 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:6, ESV)
Notice how it says Eve saw that it was good for food and a delight to the eyes. Obviously they were able to make judgements about whether things were good, prior to eating the fruit.
Furthermore, if Adam and Eve did not know that eating of the fruit would be sin (knowledge of evil), then how could God hold them accountable for choosing one way or the other? Rather than just a general sense of good and evil, the knowledge which Satan was referring to was the divine knowledge and wisdom that only God posesses. He was, in effect, trying to make them jealous of their creator (Satan said they would become like God.)
Here is an excerpt from The Bible Knowledge Commentary:
The results, of course, were anticlimactic. The promise of divine enlightenment did not come about. They both ate and saw, but they were spoiled by so doing. They were ill at ease with one another (mistrust and alienation) and they were ill at ease with God (fearful and hiding from Him). Satan’s promises never come true. Wisdom is never attained by disobeying God’s Word. Instead the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 1:7).

Honest question with genuinely no malicious intent here for clarification… where do we go with the fact that God had positioned man not to sin, we can make an assumption that this would be the better alternative? If so, there would have been no need for Jesus to come and save us from sin if man avoided this from the beginning and followed Gods commandment forever until all generations passed. In that case a completely obedient race, would this be how heaven is intended to be? If so, why not just skip that whole experience on earth and go straight to harmony with God in heaven, if that isn’t possible why not? Is it because man can’t be trusted to make the right choices and would be cast out of heaven. Does man even have choice in heaven?
    I appreciate all thoughts.

Then I'm going to tell them it's their fault that they failed my impossible loyalty test, which I already knew they're going to fail. This is not a setup and I'm not a manipulative asshole."
Nevermind that they couldn't have understood how disobedience to Asshole, erm, "God's" command was wrong if they didn't yet have any knowledge if good and evil, before eating the fruit.
Meanwhile, God himself is immune to everything and vulnerable to nothing, unlike how he manipulated Adam and Eve.
No, that stupid argument about how God is also Jesus and Jesus had to face temptation, therefore God faced temptation doesn't work because, if Jesus didn't face such strong temptation that it was impossible to live an entire life without committing a sin, like it is for everyone else, then it wasn't as difficult for Jesus as it is for everyone else.
If Jesus was born without a sin nature, then he didn't have the disadvantage everyone else has. It's not the same. It's very manipulative.
Trying to play it up by arguing that Jesus had to face temptation more difficult than anyone else only goes to show how much less vulnerable he was to sin than everyone else. The way I see it, God created a universe where sin and evil can exist. He created animals, which cannot sin, and angels, which can sin and cannot repent, and man, who can sin and can also repent.
Since God wants His universe to be free of sin, He allowed those creatures that _can_ the opportunity to do so.
He also came down and gave us the individual remedy, Salvation, so our role in this plan doesn't cost us as much as it does the angels, unless we insist upon paying.
By the end, God will have allowed man and angel to work together to sort of distill out all the evil into one concentrated pile right out in the open, and then He will destroy it.
I think that's more or less why God put the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden.
Also, people always complain about how we know evil now, and it's so bad, and darn that Adam, and so on, but they forget the tree also provides knowledge of _good._ What would life be without knowing good?

What will be life without knowing good?
It would be a life of innocence, a life like a child, a life pleasing to God. Because a child only depend and trust his Father's love and goodness.
This was the life that Satan destroyed, he destroyed the innocence of Eve, and tempted Adam to willingly disobey the Father's command.
God put the Tree of Life too, why? For Adam and Eve to reach theosis. But Adam failed. And so, God had to send the Logos.
Theosis: "God became man so that man shall become gods." - Athanasius
But what if Adam and Eve had not fall, will God still send Jesus?
The Church Fathers saw Adam fall as "happy fault", why? It allows God to show His infinite mercy by sending Jesus as Redeemer. But we know that Adam had fallen, right?
And so, the Subtle Doctor Bl.Dun Scotus teaches the Primacy of Jesus. That even if Adam did not fall, God will still send Jesus, but not as Redeemer but a King.
Bottomline, the most important question in the whole universe, including the Heavenly realm is this,
"What moved God in eternity, existing in infinite majesty and glory, to create the Beginning, the Heavens and the Earth?
Answer: God in eternity started to entertain a divine thought...
"What if I become a creature?"
And God saw Himself like a liitle child, in the image of Jesus Christ, the King.of Kings.
And the next divine thought, is a Woman, that would become a Mother, a Sovereign Queen.
In eternity God saw Himself like a little and a helpless child carried in the arms of a loving Mother. And this image, the Madonna, gave deepest joy to God's heart.
And so, God birthed or qanah a "Wisdom"/Proverbs8:22 how to realize his dream in eternity, the Madonna.
The God of Love begin to desire, begin to dream in eternity That's Mary is higher than all the angels combined, because She existed in the heart of God in eternity, before the angels was created, and Lucifer got humiliated after knowing the highest dignity of the chosen Woman.
The God of Love desires to be loved by a chosen Woman, that would become His beloved daughter, beloved Mother and beloved Spouse.
Mary is the loved of God in eternity, the reason why God created the Beginning, the Heavens and the Earth.
"The Virgin is the Beginning."- Picarreta
The God of Love created everything out of love. But love begins with a dream.
What is God's dream in eternity?
To experience the love of a daughter, Mother and Spouse.
Mary the chosen Woman became the..
      beloved daughter of the Father
      beloved Mother of the Son
and beloved Spouse of the Holy Spirit.

Seriously? That's the explanation? A omni-knowing divine being decides to make something in his image (which right there alone says something about the imperfections of god) turns a blind eye and gives his creations a choice which God already knows is going to turn out bad (unless now your gonna try to tell me that god just ignores that outcome) just to see what choice they would make? That doesn't seem like a loving god who puts a lot of thought into his work (laws of physics, creation of the universe, microbiology etc) just to give a choice and see what he already knows is gonna happen.. This sound like the work of a cruel, mean minded being. And if you are going to use the scriptures as a way to explain this then take a good look at creation days. He screws that up too. Genesis chapter 1 says (gods own divine word here ) that on the first day of creation he separates the dark from the light calls the light day and the dark night a first day. I'm, hmmm....BUT on the fourth day of creation god finally makes the su. And the moon and the stars ....how do you have night and day without the sun??? There is no mention of any other light. How can you talk about the concept of fruit just being fruit, but think that if we didn't have a choice we'd just be robots.
Your fruit concept is sound, so is the disobedience concept. The concept of us just being robots is off-putting to people as that is just simply not true.
Many non-christian people do good things. We are created and wired to draw toward doing good. It sets off dopamine chemicals in our brains. Tugs the soul's strings. All wired in God's perfection.
However, God also wired us to be capable of 'EVIL', why? Why? Again . . . Why? In a way, our fall is due to the way we were created.
This also begs the question, 'Why was God absent when the Serpent intervened?' Being all knowing, you can only assume God knew when, where and why humanity would fall.
He loves us dearly, but where was our protection?
The equivalent in today's world would be God allowing a sketchy Van into a child's playground with 'FREE CANDY' written on the side. It's wired into the child (via the tongue) to love sweets/candy. Its up to the Guardian to protect, educate, protest against stumbling blocks in life. Any parent would call the Police, confront the Van, or at the very least, educate the child. Not with "You'll surely die". An actual run down of the in's and out's of why not to draw near the Van. But God just kind of watches the little children be scooped into the Van. Then he waltzes over slides the side open, gives everyone a tongue-lashing and eternal damnation, and then slides the door back closed to allow the Van to take the children.
Wouldn't it be nice if Adam, Eve and God all sat around a camp fire over a week while God told them stories of what would happen if they were to eat the fruit.
    Which scenario seems more loving?
God forces the choice on us? However, I think CHOICE along with TRUE FREE WILL would be fitting if we had complete understanding and then have the choice. We had non of that.
Why does this feel like a game jn which God plays 'Hero' in Jesus' death?
    Its sad. I'm deeply saddened.

The tree of knowledge of good and evil has a purpose otherwise God would not have created it in the first place. Have you stopped to consider why the serpent is inside the garden that God had created? It is getting clear that God has given adam and eve free will from the very beginning and what if they choose to do what God has not told them to do? Why bother to create free will if it causes problems? God knew all the possibilities and knew that even if adam and eve choose to disobey him, He can still save them and all of us humans.

Ok look. If God gave man the ability TO rebel, TO do the opposite of good, where does THAT come from?
No one can answer that question.
God is not the author of evil BUT man can choose the opposite of good?
If Adam and Eve were NOT born into sin, they HAD no sin in them.
Where did that desire come from?
    HOW did they sin?
    WHO made sin?
Sproul couldn't even answer that question.
Anyone want to give it a try?

    • @lcarp545
      @lcarp545 ปีที่แล้ว +1

God is the author of both good and evil. They come as a pair of opposites, so the creation of one automatically necessitates the creation of the other as a byproduct. It should be noted in the scriptures that it said light was created, not darkness for darkness already existed and the Hebrew word used for darkness there is chosek and speaks of spiritual darkness, not the absence of a luminary object.
Adam and Eve did not sin. Adam sinned for the commandment to not eat of the tree was given to him and him alone. According to the scriptures, Eve ate for two reasons: it was pleasing to her senses, and she desired wisdom. There can be no wisdom without knowledge because wisdom is the appropriate application of knowledge.
This notion that sin started with the fall of man has holes in it. Man was never intended to live forever temporally for if he were, there would never have been the need for the creation of time by way of day and night. Furthermore Satan being in the garden proves that sin was already present before the eating of the fruit ever occurred.
The sin is plainly laid out in Genesis 3:17: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake.
Adam chose to listen to Eve instead of God which is why Adam was cast out of the Garden. Eve left not because she had sinned and was cast but because a woman must leave her father and cling to her husband as one flesh. Eve understood her assignment as a helper and thus went about her duty to gain wisdom. Adam did not understand his assignment because he was to have dominion over all and was unable to do that by giving in to Eve's request to partake of the fruit. Adam should've refused the fruit when offered and presented the matter to God when He returned.

@@lcarp545 If sin already existed PRIOR to Eve sinning, where did it come from? God cannot create sin. Secondly, Eve was perfect so for her to have desire APART FROM GOD, still does not answer HOW AND FROM WHOM sin came.

@@ter8330Hello. Thank you for your comment. I hope this explanation will shed some light. So let's begin shall we!
Good created free will. Sin is a byproduct of that thus He created sin. Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these thing.
Being good like being disobedient is a choice, not an exclusivity. You assume that because God is good that He is not capable of evil. It is the refusal to do evil that makes one good. Evil is what gives good its virtue just like death gives meaning to life.
There is a duality to this world. Things exist both temporally and spiritually. Furthermore, things manifest themselves spiritually before they ever manifest themselves temporally. The Adversary was in the Garden to tempt Eve. How did he get there if sin hadn't occurred until the Fall. Revelation 13:7-9 sheds light on this
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
The Savior's Atonement was completed before the world was ever formed and not some 2000 years ago. Why because there was a need for it before Adam was ever placed in the Garden because sin already existed thus the need for atoning sacrifice already existed.
We view time in a linear fashion because of our temporalness not understanding that time is a construct of this realm. Most people confuse eternity with infinity. They think eternal life means they will live on forever like an infinite measure of time. Eternity is outside the realm of time, thus everything occurs in an instant. It is why God is the Alpha and the Omega and it is why He is omniscient without infringing on your free will. All is known because it is laid before Him in is entirely.
Eve didn't sin. You have to pay attention to the order of the scriptures.
Genesis 1: 26-27 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Man here regrets to mankind which is why he refers to them as they... both male and female. Notice in bets 28 & 29 what mankind is told:
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 ¶ And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Notice that Adam and Eve are equals as mankind had been given dominion over the earth. Also note in verse 29 that mankind is told that all trees are to be used as meat. So the instruction Eve heard was that all trees were for consumption. Now go to Genesis 2:16'17
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Notice it states the man which is referring to Adam only and not mankind. How can we be sure of this? Because Eve isn't talked about until verses 21-24 well after the commandment to not eat of the tree was given.
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
That doesn't make sense right.... but it does if you understudy that one chapter is talking about the spiritual creation and the other is talking about the temporal creation. Things must exist spiritually before they do temporally. How else could the Christ be there at creation and not yet be born? Eve never received the temporal instruction to not eat from God, she received it from Adam, her equal.
Genesis 3:16 is where the female is made subordinate to the make
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Further evidence that Eve did not sin comes in the next verse
      And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Notice God directed his displeasure at Adam because as stated He commanded thee... not them. So why did Eve eat of the fruit? Because she was commanded to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth as well as to have dominion over it. How could she possibly do that without knowledge or wisdom? She did what she was commanded to do, he did not.
One of the issues that comes with taking the Bible out of its Hebrew context is that certain subtleties are missed do to the lack of understanding their language and culture. The Torah.... more accurately the Pentatuch... would have been recited and passed down orally. Adam in Hebrew means dirt, soil, earth. So what you have in the Garden is man... not mankind... in his entirety.
Adam who was created temporally from soil, became spiritually soiled and as a punishment, was returned to the soil. Eve is spiritually soiled not because she sinned against God but because he did and she is a byproduct of him. They are one flesh, therefore if he is returned to soil there too she must also go.
I am very aware that was a lot. I hoped it made some sense and answered some questions. If not hit me be back and we can discuss more. The key is not to rely on what you've been taught but to read and see the scriptures as they are before you. The Bible is a Hebrew document, not a Christian one. You have to make a strong effort to not project your Christian ideals onto the scriptures. Doing so will cause you to miss plain truths that are in front of you. Jesus was born and died a Jew. The Bible is 90% written by Hebrews. Even Paul, the emissary to the gentiles was a Pharisees from the Tribe of Benjamin. Christianity as you know it doesn't even exist until well after the New Testament has taken place. See things from a fresh perspective and enjoy the ride. You will be amazed at what you uncover.😀

They were not literal trees. As in many cases in the Bible, there are many things that are symbolic. The Tree of Life symbolized PERFECTED Adam. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil symbolized PERFECTED EVE. Because they fell before they reach perfected, the symbolized trees were protected until God could finally send the messiah who represented in reality PERFECTED Adam. That is why Jesus is known as the 2nd Adam.

A very Arminian interpretation of the Genesis 3 account.
God created all and everything for His glory, and to display His magnificence to us human beings it was necessary for Him to be our atoning sacrifice in Christ. Therefore it was necessary for humanity to fall in sin, which God enabled through the serpent and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

God did not force them to make a choice. That's nothing more than a wild guess based on the erroneous assumption that there was an agenda with God. God did not create Adam and Eve in some type of neutral vacuum of choice. God never created the angels that way either. God created Adam and Eve with purpose, direction, and everlasting life which was the fullness of God's agenda in creation. The tree of knowledge of good and evil had nothing to do with random disobedience. It established a moral conscience against the sin of Lucifer which was to experience yourself as God. God was protecting Adam and Eve from this pre-existing possibly for all created beings. God was not presenting Adam and Eve with a choice. He was protecting them from something all beings are capable of doing which is to forget that you are created and live within a created order. Trying to claim that this was random "disobedience' is a cheap and ignorant way of explaining this issue... without looking at the actual virtues and morals of the issue.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil symbolizes the "womb of Eve"", and her fruit was Cain.
The Treeof Life symbolizes the womb of Mary, and Her fruit was Jesus.
St.Gabriel and Lucifer were both a cherub, from the choir of Cherubim.
Satan/fallen Lucifer greeted Eve and said, "You are chosen by God to bear the "Wisdom of God", and Eve asked, how can it be?
      Satan answered, by sexual procreation...
And Satan indwelling the serpent who originally have arms and legs and organ, tried to caress Eve, and eventually defiled the sacred womb of Eve.
And then, later on, Eve having infected with the malice of Satan, because Satan had "touched" her virginity...
Adam seeing Eve in a fallen state, out of love for Eve, was also tempted to commit the "sexual sins".
      Proof?
Look at the punishment given by God to Eve, its about having pangs when giving birth. And to Adam, since he indulge in pleasure of the flesh, have to sweat his brow, and this is no longer pleasurable to flesh.
Satan breathed his malice or touch the womb of Eve that defiled his virginity, while Adam had fallen into sexual lust thinking they can bear a fruit, the Wisdom of God. But this is Satan deceptions on Eve.
Mary the New Eve, was also greetes by a cherub, and said, She is the chosen one to bear the Wisdom of God or the incarnated Logos.
"Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus."
Again, the womb of Eve symbolizes the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and her fruit was Cain, that John8:44 attributed to Satan, bcoz Cain became a murderer like Satan.
While Mary the New Eve, Her womb symbolizes the Treeof Life, and Her fruit was Jesus the Author of Life.
Adam and Eve committed the forbidden "sexual procreation" right in the garden of Eden, a Temple of God.
Thats why the punishment written in Genesis3:16-ff is about pain of giving birth and hard labor for Adam, because he indulge in pleasures of the flesh.
This profound mystery is only for matured Christian, and not for baby christian.
      Ave!

This teaching doesn’t really answer the question at all. A choice of something bad need not be given for mankind to nor be robotic.
There is no such thing as completely free will to anything created, just free choice. God could have given 2 great options and man would have been just as free.
Add to that Adam had zero idea what death even was and even the choice he made was from ignorance.
If a human parent offered their child an apple or a banana, are they free? Do they become any more free because u offered an apple or cyinide? Of course not, it simply paints the parent out to be a monster. And god is no monster!
Hence, god didn’t set things up for free will or to test Adam. That’s an insane theory that makes god a psychopath. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
