5 things I wish I knew before doing my CA articles

this one is a talk about some of the things you can expect when you enter into the fun world of corporate auditing (!!!!!). i cover 5 big assumptions:
1. you will have no life
2. the salary is bad
3. unpaid overtime
4. failing your board exams
5. articles suuuuurck
anyway i think you will find that articles are actually very adorable because you will learn a lot about people and also you will learn that auditors LOVE karaoke.

Thank you for this video Maddy! I have recently signed with one of the big 4 (and I may have done a little bit of digging to figure out which one relates to your experience😜😁) - and I am definitely happy with the choice I have made😇. My friends have discouraged me from going into audit specifically because of the "little pay". My response to them was that, I am not trying to become a CA because I want money - I'd like to believe there are maaany ways to make money without going through the turmoil of the CA(SA) route. Also, Auditing is my favorite module, so I am a little excited to actually go into audit. Yes, it won't be what I expect it to be, but I am willing to embrace the experience because it will the humble beginnings of a life long career as a CA(SA). I am so sorry about your brother - I pray you continue to heal from the loss. ❤❤❤Thank you once again for sharing and dispelling the myths

Hi Bulelwa! Yay, I’m so happy you signed with a company you like!
I totally agree with you - no-one chooses doing auditing articles because they want to make money. I’ve learnt soooo much more than my colleagues who went to work cushier jobs because I’ve been placed on hectic clients, worked insane overtime and have had a more holistic experience that will ultimately make me a better CA! 👩‍💼
I’m so glad you’re excited about doing your articles - it really is such an incredibly rewarding experience if you allow it to be. 🩷

Hi Maddy, congratulations 👏 . I have a question. Can one write ITC before signing articles contract?

Hi Cathrine! Oof, this is one that I am not ENTIRELY sure about. As far as I am aware, you can register for ITC without signing a contract, but in order to actually become an eligible CA(SA), you will need to be signed to a firm that is registered with the SAICA training office so that they can evaluate your performance over your 3 years of articles. 🤓 more info here: saicawebprstorage.blob.core.windows.net/uploads/resources/Training-Regulations-1-Jan-2022.pdf
