Thank you so much for the information. Please i plan moving to the uk as a chartered accountant in Nigeria and i want to ask, if there's a need to write a qualifying exam again to be able to work as a CA in the Uk. Also how easy is it to get a job as a CA in the uk. Do i need an ACCA or CIMA to work? Or is my qualifying certificate from Nigeria enough?

Hi Entle. I am also considering a move and these are my questions:
1.How long does it take for one to move from Assistant Manager Position to Manager and whats the salary jump?
2.How is social life there. Isnt there a lot of loneliness?
3.How difficult is it to move between audit firms or moving from audit to other fundctions.

      1. Okay I have only heard rumours here but £5 to £8k difference between Senior associate and Manager. Per my observation people aren’t progressing like they would in South Africa by now I believe a lot would be managers but are not. I have seen some progress in other firms during the promotion season which was positive.
      2. You can easily build a community of your own you just have to mingle a lot more. There are always events to meet up with people and personality plays a role here. My perspective it’s lonely, no matter how much I try to mingle I just can’t fill that part of my family and old friends
      3. I think it’s easy audit firms are always looking for people to be honest but be weary if immigration cost which you might have to pay back your old from should you move before the stipulated timeframe. As for moving departments my move was not difficult I just had to pass an exam, I know a few people who have recently moved to other departments without complaints but some departments might be tricky . Also I was approved after being here for exactly a year so I feel like you just have to make your intentions clear at least that’s what I did 4 months of being here I made it clear audit was not my calling anymore.

Do you think ai will replace accountants?

I don’t believe so, it will replace certain accounting functions but I don’t see it entirely replacing the role

    How is work life balance

In the firm that I work for it is something I believe it’s well prioritised however in busy season it can feel like all you do is work. Creating boundaries and being firm with your time and how you work better is very important and it is something I see encouraged but this differs from firm to firm.
