My deceased roommate remembered when the Women's Prison was standing in the 70s, and when he walked by he'd usually get catcalled.

I haven't heard the story about the women and their families talking loudly from the Women's Prison windows since my Mom told me about it when I was a little boy. Well, now I'm going to watch your East Village Walking Tour and see if you remind me of Jeff Goldblum in that one, too.

You mentioned Mae West in this video. Fun fact: I grew up in northern NJ and the house my parents bought was very old. They've lived in that house since 1978. It was over 100 years old when they bought it. There was (and still is) a path that goes from the back of the yard to the center of the yard and just stops. Over the years, they've collected many stories about the house. One of them is that an Italian family lived there and the lady of the house made these MASSIVE dinners on Sundays. She was an amazing cook. Word got around and people who worked on Broadway would come to these dinners and literally sing for their supper. They sang in a gazebo that used to be at the end of that pathway that dead ends in the middle of the yard. We were told Mae West was one of the people who ate in our yard.
