I just want to take a moment to acknowledge the colour grading (or whatever camera you use) on this vid. Extremely pleasant. Plus the usual Delgado awesomeness, which goes without saying.
The shot for the Carolyn Eisenberg segment was gorgeous. Great composition and that back-lit contrast was great. Beautiful colors and textures as well.
Nice to see another long time new yorker. My dad was nypd in the 70s and he liked to give me tours of nyc. He’d show me all the spots he’d pulled bodies out of. And over there is where I grabbed a junkie. That’s living w a detective from the 70s.
Friend had a job with the Sanitation Department. After each deep freeze he would follow a garbage truck going thru the Bowery with a flat-nosed shovel scooping up dead bodies from the previous night's freeze.
The Emerald Inn used to be one of Roseann's hangouts as it's directly across the street. In the movie, a young Tom Berenger played the John Wayne Wilson character and Richard Gere played a love interest. Levar Burton was in the movie, also, as a brother to one of Roseann's students.
I thought I recognized that first story. It was a decent movie back in the 70's. But now I know it was based on a true story, it was even better. Very interesting stories throughout. Yet living in NYC, you are never short of true crime stories. That's the sad part. Keep it up Tom and Eric the Vegan (his Norse name).
Also, fantastic videos. I’m a big history/walking tour/acting buff myself and the fact that you’re putting this out there for free is amazing! It’s also a great way to show people the city that’s not just tourism! My dad and brother are coming up in December, and it’s my brother’s first time in NYC. I’ve binged watched all your videos in preparation. I think one of the best things is that I can show them your channel and they can see parts of New York that they probably won’t have time to do with the first time NYC bucket list. For example they probably won’t want to go to Central Park in late Dec so I sent them your videos to do their homework.
I know the Roseanne Quinn story. I saw “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” at the movies in late 1977 when I was 13 years old. I went to see It by myself. For some reason, our neighborhood theatre in Culver City, CA, the Culver Theatre, since renamed the Kirk Douglas Theatre, always let us kids in to see R-rated flicks with no questions. We would walk up there and see whatever we wanted. We saw Jaws there, Saturday Night Fever, Ode to Billy Joe, Up in Smoke, you name it. The Culver (built in 1946) was one of those beautiful old theaters with a freestanding ticket booth out front, a stage with colored light bulbs running across it, velvet seats, and velvet curtains that opened and closed across the screen.
I saw Looking for Mr Goodbar on portuguese television in the mid 80s and remember it to this day. I saw it again recently, it transports you to a more dangerous and gray NYC. There's a book called Closing Time, by Lacey Fosburgh, with a journalistic view of the case, that tells the life story of these two people since their childhood.
If I ever move to New York I’m going to run the address by you, Tom, to make sure it doesn’t have a gruesome history! OMG “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” was a dark and depressing movie!
probably the most famous murder in the upper west side was of a famous musician who was shot to death as he was entering his apartment building at the corner of 72nd street and central park west
I stumbled across your videos the other day. Very entertaining, impressive knowledge. And I now have a big crush 😍 I’m close by…in CT. 😬 But don’t hold that against me.
I clicked like because although I was having it on in the background And doing stain glass I still love you dude. I tried to find the song about the actress that was killed because I wanted to hear how bad it was . Probably for the best I couldn't find it. I just remembered alarm something and googled the description of what happened. My best friend was from Brooklyn and he died last year and won't turn these videos off even if I am busy because it reminds me of him. So thanks for keeping my dude Alive. He talked about new york city. Grateful dead more than any other subject. And inam Lebanese and he was jewish and we would rock back and forth watching television together and i would put your vids on so he could see what It looked like now. Okay. I didnt expect much. But you and Eric know what youre doing. This was a very entertaining video. If you knew who I was then maybe you'd be impressed that I'm impressed with you. Or maybe not.
Okay, I just listened to Caroline Isenberg by The Alarm - it’s actually not a bad song! So - other than that, I loved this video. Subscribed and Patreon’d.
Fun fact; Texans might actually have heard of The Alarm because they get name checked in Ray Wylie Hubbard's Snake Farm - "Ramona likes her malt liquor and a band from Wales that's called The Alarm. She said she cried when they broke up, she still plays their records at the Snake Farm."
Hello. What is the location at the very end of your video? I recently moved to near CPW in the 90s and I have not been to the Riverside area and I'd like to know best places to walk there, etc. Thanks for the fun and spooky video!
@@tomdnyc1 Oooh. Will check them out. Yes! Those absolutely count. And these movies would be kinda cool? :)))) Uncut Gems, Birdman, Black Swan, Spiderman, Eyes Wide Shut, Goodfellas, The Godfather, Saturday Night Fever, Coming To America, Scrooged, Carlito's Way,
Waz' with the filming of pigeon butts ? They're DURTY FILTHY BOIDS ! Try filming an incoming train from under an elevated station. You'll be cleaning bird poop off yourself and your lens from the aerial schist bombardment for hours while the enamel of your teeth is being corroded from drinking coke. Pro Tip: Use coke, no pepsi, for removing hardened bird droppings on the lens.
The real question here is "how did that pigeon lose his leg....and who tied those bindings around his one remaining leg?" I have a feeling that these questions could probably be answered by commenter Jesse. That might be a true modern day horror story!!! (well, it would be if you were a pigeon).
I knew the guy who killed her. He was from my block. His mother was very nice and never understood how he blew it all. We lived in a lower to middle class area and this guy gets a job that anyone would fight for (union with good wages) and blows it all because he was spurned? I did not know well but knew him. I felt so bad for his mom.
Interesting stories. Thanks for sharing. What really got me disturbed were the two stills of a disgusting pigeon, which i find nauseating to look at. They are the most vile creatures, flying rats, i call them. Please refrain from taking videos of them except on Halloween . Yuuukk!
One thing that will always stick with me for my entire life was when my sociology teacher explained in great detail how midtown is considered midtown because when the train system was first being implemented there was nothing but projects and farm land above 100th Street.. so because of the farmland and projects they didn't consider that the city or the town.. so therefore midtown is considered midtown and then that started the redlining as time progressed
You can't resist the sliders can you! Lol Horrific stories but very interesting nonetheless. Sounds like the 70s and 80s were dangerous times for women back then.
@@Bachconcertos That's what I hear on the news. I lived in NYC for five years but it was just a few years ago. It didn't seem that bad back then. The worst thing that happened to me was on White Plains Road in the Bronx. I’m alive today because, in 1984, I was roaming around the Upper West Side blasting “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” in my Walkman. Great episode, Tom.

This is great stuff! True crime, movie reviews and comedy, what more could we want! Lots of love from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺

Thumbs up Tom.... thanks for posting 👍😊
The way you struggle to end these videos cracks me up every time. I say that with love 😂 Cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 😊
Moral of the first story: never trust dudes whose first name is John and middle name is Wayne. Happy Halloween, Tom and Eric.
What about first name Wayne
and middle name John ?
last name Wayne works as well on people to not trust.
Great video and channel! The hard work put in is appreciated.

There used to be a sign at Macy's saying that one of its owners had died on the Titanic
John Wayne, former actor and Sacheen Littlefeather wrestler, was really named Marion. True fact!
Crazy that the mugshot depicted the killer’s friend. That’s some film noir twist
