In regards to the Evo X being the “worst evo” because its the heaviest, id also like to mention that it was the Evo with the most body rigidity. Also the S-AWC made up for the heavy chassis in terms of handling. Calling the Evo X the worst Evo is like calling the R33 GTR the worst GTR just because its weight while you disregard all the aerodynamics and technology made to offset that weight.
The Ralliart's engine does not have forged internals, like the Evo X does. I would argue the X is the best Evo, considering not only the better engine, but the more clever AWD system with TRUE torque vectoring not braking, and also its chassis is 40% stiffer than the 9. Not to mention its the best looking sedan made in the last 20 years.
Evo X does not have forged internals besides the forged steel crank. The ralliart engine is exactly the same as the Evo X. The turbo and manifold is different.
@@chetrickerman yep. It's exactly the same engine. Evo X owners hate that the RA is using the same engine/gearbox while is cheaper and a bit lighter. Btw, RA have also the evo 9 awd. For the people that are into old evos feel.
@@octaviangeorge5455 Evo owners don't hate RA's at all. I think that's something RA owners spun up to justify the fact that they just couldn't afford the real thing. That's why you see more RA's at the wreckers because they couldn't hang with the maintanance costs. Evo's have a wider track, better suspension, better brakes, more stock power, better spool up, better weight distribution...yadda yadda. Seriously difficult to hate a lower end, lesser equipped car on paper just because it has the 4B11T.
@@stephen9944 not true. I've been in RA groups and in Evo groups. Ra groups are simple awesome while evo groups are full of jerks. Anyway, evo is not just a better car. Is just a different car. In RA you get same engine, same gearbox, same steering wheel, same dashes, same seats, same etc as in evo X, while you get the evo 9 awd. Witch means a more predictible and natural feel (1 of the main reason people dislike evo X and love the 9). You get a mechanical strong lsd in the back, while the X is using an weak open diff with electronics bullshit to make it handle better. Plus, in RA you get smaller turbo lag, better low-mid end torque, and a taller 6 gear. Better fuel milage. More space. Weights a bit less. Costs a bit less to mantain/insurance. And the big reason is that you save like 10 000e, that you can easily use to make the RA way faster than a stock Evo X while you are more unique. People know about evos, but RA is still a mistery. You can have it in rotor glow paint, that is a RA specific color. So overall, you have many advantages to get a RA even if you can afford an evo.
The crank walk in the 4G63 was actually fixed in the Evolution 5 engine with updated thrust bearing. You can put the updated thrust bearing in the Evolution 4 4G63 but IIRC you do have to do some machining.
I think your stating the 4B11T is "better" is primarily because you probably never owned an Evo with the 4G63. I have been fortunate enough to have owned both new. On the 4G63 side, I owned from new a 2003 Evo 8 and 2 2006 Evo 9's one a base and one an MR. On the 4B11T side I owned a 2012 Evo X with SS. I can tell you HANDS DOWN the 4G63 is my preferred engine even Stock Vs. Stock. Why? from a "performance perspective" if and when you ever did want to build your Evo, the 4G63 especially in the Evo 9 can make SILLY power with simple bolt ons. I daily drove my 9 MR making 340AWHP on 91 pump and 400AWHP on E85 with a stock bottom end and factory turbo. I was running Cozzie M3 cams with supporting mods for them. The X, stock vs stock feels slower to me. I actually was disappointed in the X when I first bought it. This could be due to the heavier weight of the X vs the 9. I won't even go into build quality where the 8/9 are superior to the X that category as well. Fuel economy. Now many don't care about this buying this kind of car, but I am simply stating a fact. My daily drive to work in my 8 and 9's netted me 19 mpgs the X 15mpg's. This is Stock vs Stock. I literally was getting gas in my X like every 3rd day, where in my 9 I could make it 5 days to work. The X also had a plastic valve cover, whereas the 8/9 had a Magnesium alloy. The 9 also had a larger OEM turbo 16G vs the X 15G. I can go on and on, but in the 21 yrs I have been driving Evo's? The Evo 9 MR is still my favorite to this day.
You really don’t think the Evo 8 & 9 are better? I think they look much better and I believe they are faster. I think the only thing better about the X would be the interior.
The crankwalk issue hasn't really existed in USDM Evos. Unless of course, the car has been very neglected by the owner. The only Evo that had the crankwalk issue was the Evo 4. You can even find their motors online for a lot cheaper than the next Evo 5 since the Evo 5 onward doesn't suffer from crankwalk.
Most people only think of how much power a engine can make. More power = better for them. But if you want actually good powerband you care about everything about a engine.
I like this video, but the “crank walk” was an issue with the 4g63s in the Eclispes and Talons. Mainly in the 1995-1997 years. Those went to a split thrust-bearing design in 1998. Crankwalk as a result from a factory failure has not been documented on any US Evo 8/9 yet. That had no place in this video.
Bad Omen same for my s14 shifts like butter than i jump into my evo and im scared its about to break haha going to rebuild my tranny soon so hopefully it eliminates the issue
Love my Evo X, just an AEM CAI, Cobb EBC, High flow cat and upper intercooler pipe got it to 330/330 with a Chet Rickerman tune (legend). I like the the look of the 8 and 9 but no way am I jealous that they never released in Canada.
@@user-fk2si1xc2s Not without a fuel pump and regulator. 1) they don't sell E85 in Canada 2) You get the same power with E85 on an Evo X 3) Good luck finding a Evo 8/9 that isn't beat.
what makes the 4g63t and the 4b11t is in its stock form they have low compression and you can litterally shove more fuel and air in that making easy power without worrying about pre detonation
Well i think it has proven itself now, the highest hp evo x now from english racing has a sleeved block 4b11-turbo making 1265whp with lots of torque compared to a 4g63-t at same power level.
Made 722whp out of mine the hurricane Harvey put my evo in 5' of water. Funny is it ran after draining all critical fluids to get out of the shop for the insurance company to do its job and tow truck to take away.
Owned Ralliart for couple of years now and i don’t think 4b11 is better than a 4G63 in stock form. People might get triggered but honestly EVO X is as good looking as any CT9A and way better than previous generations.
Let me tell you I have got a Evo X GSR bevor getting a Evo 6 TME RS. I was thinking to get an upgrade.. But sold the EVO 6 5 month later and got my baby EVO X again. It is more fun and engine sound is better the handling and the seats confort. It's a realy cool car. I have my own experience with cars, and I was listen to others speaking to me about the 4g or Evo 6 and I was thinking and starting believing the X isn't good enough... But nothing is better then making your own picture, with your own expirience. Don't believe like me what others say. Everybody has a different tast and perspective on how a car has to be... But at the end the car has to fit to u!
You wouldn't happen to have the color code for the X used in the first two minutes, would you? or a source on who owns it? I am looking for change the color on my wicked white X, and that's the exact color I'm shooting for.
This is a very nice video I wish there was more info on the actual internals and there was more info comparing it to its other counter parts and what was different
When I bought my Evo I wanted the lightest model possible but with the 4G engine having the cam gears on the left of the engine bay so I could use the IV-IX 4G63 being that there are lots of parts available for them. I also didn't want a wide car as in my country car parks are quite tight, so are garages. I went with an Evolution IV RS (1 of 500 built) and I got it for a cheap price as nobody likes the "crankwalk"... so like any smart person I swapped the block to an Evo VIII block, problem solved. Now I have the power of the Evo VIII (before I modified the engine) no AYC to break on me, factory LSD's and the car only weighs 2778 lbs. Power-to-weight ratio makes a weapon, the X has a weight problem that a shipment of slim fast couldn't fix.
The pictures and clips need to match what is being said. I wanted to see the different engines that were being mentioned. I know its more work but I'd really appreciate it.
It’s the same situation as when the K series first came out. Most of the Honda faithful still preferred the proven and reliable B Series. Over time Honda improved the K series and people discovered it was just as good if not better giving tuners options. My only complaint with the 4B11 was that Mitsubishi never improved it. There was only one generation of the engine. People really need to compare the first gen 4G63 to the 4B11T.
Hey man evo x as 260pound more than the evo 9 so it is verry similar and the evo x as way better esthetics than the evo 9 i love my evo x choice was easy for me and now pushing 450whp low boost and 645whp high boost
Hopefully in a year or two U make update video called which is better 4G63T, 4B11T, or whatever that EVO 11 engine comes with assuming Renault-Nissan has the balls to bring the EVO back as the so called experts claim.
Don't be scared. A lot of those issues were RalliArts flashed with the MR's S-SPORT mode for launch control. If you can pay the $1000 for maintanance based on the owners manual, the SST is a Getrag and Getrag's are infamously strong. Stock can handle 346lbs of torque without any issues as long as you keep the fluids and filters changed and don't live in launch control.
@@MrShadyss 400whp is good but above 340wtorque needs a clutch and fork upgrade. A good tuner can achieve that though. Mine has been sitting at 330/330 for a year now. GSR's at 400 eat clutches as well so it's not that the SST is weak. I've put 40k on mine in 2 years, long drive, some heavy traffic...it's been a pleasure to drive.
i think mitsubishi should of made a lot of 4B11T and transmission by them self, becuz im trying to find some but they cost a lot and i cant even find a use evo x 5 speed manual lol
SR20 DET vs QR25DE?? I know the QR isn’t boosted from factory but they are decent engine and some have boosted it and they have very good if not excellent torque to power ratio at least compared to the SR
Great video but you missed quite a bit of things - the motor itself is weak vs thr 4g63 due to water cool jackets because its aluminum. Now stock form is ok but majority of people will mod their car to make more power meaning the water jackets are an issue due to the aluminum needing to be cooled which means it needs to be sleeved which adds more to the build cost - weight does not make that much of a difference being 20-30lbs overall - Turbo in the back has more failure because of heat not being released behind the motor and makes turbo swaps extremely difficult taking almost 8-12 hours for a swap vs the turbo in the front where you can knock it out in 1-2 hours depending on your skill level. Heat under the oil pan does not make that much of a difference due to the oil cooler being vented. - timing chain in the 4b11 is known to stretch and is difficult to get to if you need to upgrade it. Although I like the chain idea vs a belt due to strength without snapping but a belt is probably the best way to Go. The 4B11 was the worst design they have created. I get they have to meet emmissions but they could have made the 4B11 similar to 4G63 with a few changes changes but staying close to the original design Im not knocking your video you did good but this only helps for people who do not plan on modding their cars but we see everyone trying to beat records
My boy said "Crankwalk", the Crankwalk issue was only in the 7 bolt 2g design and not in the EVOs. I HATED when people don't know wtf they are talking about. Even stock 6bolt 4g63s would make 500hp+ on stock internals. Funny how the mention putting the exhaust in the back was a great idea, 😆. Makes it that much harder to put a bigger turbo, not only that with extreme heat would melt the plastics, smh. "Oh they needed to mean the needs for emissions" it's a sports cars, what emissions are you trying to achieve here? That's BS,😆 far as I'm concerned, the EVO died with the 9.
@@TeslaHaxz that maybe true but your so limited with that engine because anything after that you need the block sleeved and kiss the rods good bye, 😁 Only thing the 4B11 has over the 4g63 is the no rocker valve train and timing chain. I do like the drive by wire boost adjustments on the Evo X but which Lucas English all ready did that on the 4g63 Evo. My point is this, if in fact the 4B11 was that superior to the "old man fanboy 4g63" EVERYONE would have jumped ship and joined the band wagon,🤔

Not to mention its the best looking sedan made in the last 20 years.
Also, other evos had torque vectoring, just not in the us
Evo X does not have forged internals besides the forged steel crank.
I’d love to see a vid like this about the Mazda KL v6 engines or the Mitsubishi 6g7 series engines
that black Evo looks stunning
You mean all of them*
I think your stating the 4B11T is "better" is primarily because you probably never owned an Evo with the 4G63.
Watching this video makes me wanna buy am Evo 10

My dream car right there #EvoX
You really don’t think the Evo 8 & 9 are better? I think they look much better and I believe they are faster. I think the only thing better about the X would be the interior.
The crankwalk issue hasn't really existed in USDM Evos. Unless of course, the car has been very neglected by the owner. The only Evo that had the crankwalk issue was the Evo 4. You can even find their motors online for a lot cheaper than the next Evo 5 since the Evo 5 onward doesn't suffer from crankwalk.
I love my X
I think after 7yrs of production and 5yrs after consumers have warmed up to the EvoX. My favorite Evo design remains the V .

You have an amazing unique channel 💯
Most people only think of how much power a engine can make. More power = better for them. But if you want actually good powerband you care about everything about a engine.
exactly. It's far easier to keep the 4B11T in boost and making power through corners, especially with the MR since you never lift throttle to shift.
@@stephen9944 You shouldn't really use no lift shift all the time. Just when you really need those ms
So we are going to ignore piston ring gap?
One note, the OEM 4B11T exhaust manifold is cast iron, not stainless.
And he very clearly said the 4g63 suffered from it but this type evo didn't 👍
Love my evo x gsr love the 4b11t Only thing i dislike is how notchy the transmission is
I recommend getting the twm caged shifter
I did on my X
And it's so smooth
I can never go back to that stock plastic shifter
Yep I always think all that noise is not normal witch makes me paranoid I hate how loud it is
jose palacios yeah i dont blame you haha
Josue Aguilar i was thinking on buying one from them but never got around to it but also it being notchy is from factory i cant remember what it was
Bad Omen same for my s14 shifts like butter than i jump into my evo and im scared its about to break haha going to rebuild my tranny soon so hopefully it eliminates the issue
thank you youtube recommendations! this channel is great
Love my Evo X, just an AEM CAI, Cobb EBC, High flow cat and upper intercooler pipe got it to 330/330 with a Chet Rickerman tune (legend). I like the the look of the 8 and 9 but no way am I jealous that they never released in Canada.
evo 8/9 with just a tune on e85 400awhp no joke bullet proof
@@user-fk2si1xc2s Not without a fuel pump and regulator. 1) they don't sell E85 in Canada 2) You get the same power with E85 on an Evo X 3) Good luck finding a Evo 8/9 that isn't beat.
The answer is YES!
I don't know about technical..but I love Evo..fun to drive..tq 4 share
The 4b11 has better flow out of the box from what I've heard which helps build power from the stock turbo
what makes the 4g63t and the 4b11t is in its stock form they have low compression and you can litterally shove more fuel and air in that making easy power without worrying about pre detonation
Well i think it has proven itself now, the highest hp evo x now from english racing has a sleeved block 4b11-turbo making 1265whp with lots of torque compared to a 4g63-t at same power level.
Is it big different between 4b10 and 4b11?
That was quite a lot of info in quite a short time!
Love those rims..... and those caliper color on the black one
Made 722whp out of mine the hurricane Harvey put my evo in 5' of water. Funny is it ran after draining all critical fluids to get out of the shop for the insurance company to do its job and tow truck to take away.
Anything on the 4B12 ?
Owned Ralliart for couple of years now and i don’t think 4b11 is better than a 4G63 in stock form. People might get triggered but honestly EVO X is as good looking as any CT9A and way better than previous generations.
So I'm guessing the genesis coupe turbo has the 4b11 too ?
Yes, except internals aren't forged like the 4B11T and its a longitudinally-mounted layout.
It has a different port design and camshaft profile
86 bore, 86 stroke 🤔 Nissan been using that in the SR20 series from 90 to early 2000's
Joe Brown nissan is one of the owners of Mitsubishi
Does the 2009 lancer ES have 4b11 or a 4g63? im confused
The best EVO is the one still running good without problems.
Damn dude that’s dope!
Is the 4b1 the same as the 4b11
Running 612 hp on a stock 4b11t block
The pictures and clips need to match what is being said. I wanted to see the different engines that were being mentioned. I know its more work but I'd really appreciate it.
Noted. Thanks for watching 🤟
Exhaust manifold made from stainless steel or cast iron? Also, they crack.
Drove my Evo X on black ice, on all year tires...barely noticed it😂
It’s the same situation as when the K series first came out.
Can you do a everything you need to know about the sr20det

can you tell me how much can I get a 4g63 AMG turned engine and six forward gear box with complete engine harnesses for
Ten millions if original Amg 4g63 🤔😭
I love my Evo X, I don't think it is the worst Evo. It is the only Evo in North America with AYC, so it is IMO the only "real" Evo in North America.
Evo x is definitely not the worst evo, only one that beats it out for me personally is the 8/9
Has anyone put the evo 10 engine in an earlier evo?
Until I see 4b11 swaps 4g63’s are still superior
At the end of the day, they r better than EJs

Don't mind me, just a 4m40t owner having a look.
Hopefully in a year or two U make update video called which is better 4G63T, 4B11T, or whatever that EVO 11 engine comes with assuming Renault-Nissan has the balls to bring the EVO back as the so called experts claim.
Love my 2011 MR.
My buddy has fully built EVO X down to the Sheppard tranny he is looking to sell. 730hp range at the tire. Let me know
Both evos are great. But the evo ix is the best of all time.
I love the x but the SST issues scare me
Don't be scared.
Stephen H. So good for a DD? And around 400 hp
@@MrShadyss 400whp is good but above 340wtorque needs a clutch and fork upgrade. A good tuner can achieve that though. Mine has been sitting at 330/330 for a year now. GSR's at 400 eat clutches as well so it's not that the SST is weak. I've put 40k on mine in 2 years, long drive, some heavy traffic...it's been a pleasure to drive.
i think mitsubishi should of made a lot of 4B11T and transmission by them self, becuz im trying to find some but they cost a lot and i cant even find a use evo x 5 speed manual lol
is it possible to engine swap my 2011 lancer es which have 4b11 to 4b11t without any hard things to get?

6:00 FACTS
The 10 is perhaps the most effecient Evo.
Great video but you missed quite a bit of things
- the motor itself is weak vs thr 4g63 due to water cool jackets because its aluminum. Now stock form is ok but majority of people will mod their car to make more power meaning the water jackets are an issue due to the aluminum needing to be cooled which means it needs to be sleeved which adds more to the build cost
- weight does not make that much of a difference being 20-30lbs overall
- Turbo in the back has more failure because of heat not being released behind the motor and makes turbo swaps extremely difficult taking almost 8-12 hours for a swap vs the turbo in the front where you can knock it out in 1-2 hours depending on your skill level.
I get they have to meet emmissions but they could have made the 4B11 similar to 4G63 with a few changes changes but staying close to the original design
Im not knocking your video you did good but this only helps for people who do not plan on modding their cars but we see everyone trying to beat records
Crank walk killed my TalonTsi
Dude sounds like jim dangle from reno 911
@5:18 - Good lord that car is beautiful
Why was the x the worst evo? I would disagree. They got better with time
personally, i hate the way the X looks. just my opinion. i’m currently saving up to either buy an s2000 or evo 8/9. still love the evos though!
Crankwalk = 7 bolt 4G
6 bolt is a tank...
Emission standards make me want to self harm
There are plenty of 650 hp stock internal 4b11s, you can fanboy all you want, doesn't change the fact that you're wrong
@@ttpgarage agreed .... the only reason ppl like Evo glorifies Evo X is because it the most common Evo Mitsubishi has ever produced.... You go on a hunt for a Evo 9 or 8 and you rarely will find one and if you never owned a DSM car before like a 1g 2g you can't say A 4b11 better than a 4g63..
