  • What We Know About Light No Fire
    This is the info we know about Light No Fire. We have one interview with Sean Murray and one trailer on Light No Fire but they have a ton of info in them. I am breaking down the interview and also sharing my thoughts on what we might see in Light No Fire and possibly a release date for it as well.

    To the skeptics saying one planet isn't that big, bear this in mind. The Lewis and Clark expedition from Missouri to the west coast took 862 days. The planet is freaking huge.

      Earth is ~24,000 miles in circumference, average walking speed 3mph, so 8,000 hours to walk right round - assuming you could walk at sea level the whole time and never sleep, that's 333 days, not 90 days as Jason said.
      I think L & C did pause quite a bit on their journey.

    • @Fazeshyft
      @Fazeshyft หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@ziploc2000 Exactly! They stopped to make camp, and they were traversing all new territory and biomes with a full complement of equipment, laden wagons, and no maps or prior knowledge of what threats were out there beforehand. Light No Fire is going to begin quite similarly. I have to think it'll take way more than 90 days to circumnavigate the game's world.

    • @nerdjournal
      @nerdjournal หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@ziploc2000 Yeah 333 days if you don't sleep, take breaks or anything. If you walked for just shy of a year solid, then you would cross the earth. Oh, And that doesn't account for elevation increases such as climbing mountains. You account for terrain difference and things like that, it would take over 365 days non-stop walking to cover the entire earth(guesstimating).

    The dragon takeoffs in the trailer are identical to NMS ship takeoffs. They’re definitely rehashing the same systems with a different theme and I think that’s the correct move considering how much work they’ve put into NMS

    • @Connor.97

      It makes sense given all the experience they've gained from NMS. The take off mechanic feels like a no brainer if it means it incorporates itself in-game nicely. I will admit though, a more organic look would be lovely if they have the time in the future.

      If they're struggling with a place to start in story it can just be arcs instead, for each zone, have an arc focus on a specific genre, horror, comedy, romance etc, doesn't have to be complex either.

    Some of my predictions/wishlist:
    -Many different races which pull inspiration from many different real-life cultures (Africa, Asia, Native Americans, etc.), so the overall feel is more akin to something like WoW than D&D.
    -Unique class system which allows you to more or less build your character's "class" based on weapon skills, various schools of magic, and so on
    -Although it's not a sci-fi game per se, as a nod to NMS, the story has a number of overarching celestial themes to it. Astronomy is a skill you can learn to help with navigation and possibly unlock some other secrets of the stars. The random spheres & robots we saw in the trailer play a role in the story and are eventually revealed to belong to an alien civilization.

    Hello Games went from zero to hero, based on the almost 1000 hours I've spent in NMS and my treasured "Immortal" Title, I expect LNF will be utterly astounding. If they can avoid the mistakes made during NMS's release and early days I can't think of any reason this new game wouldn't be a smash hit.

    Nice overview, @JasonPlays. I'll be giving Light No Fire serious consideration when it is out. We can reasonably expect a much more polished experience than day one NMS, as well. I just hope that with a reputedly very large world, Hello Games doesn't fall into the same traps that Bethesda did in Starfield, with a disjointedness due to how the playfield(s) were structured and spread out.
    One small nitpick ~4:15 - 4:25 "No other team has done something like NMS" - I think I get where you're coming from, _but_ :
    - if we're talking procedural planet -> galaxy generation - *cough* Elite *cough* - 1984. Then, two Frontier Elite titles, then Elite: Dangerous (which matches NMS for playfield scale and has the exoflora) - all predating NMS
    - if we're talking procedural species generation - *cough* Spore *cough*
    I don't recall any noteworthy prior titles combining the two items above, but the point is that in broad terms, much of what NMS promised at launch _had_ already been done, to an extent.
    NMS was pretty rough at release. Totally agree with you that what Hello Games has done with NMS since, is nothing short of awesome!

I have been playing NMS since launch and with each FREE update and FREE expedition the game became more complete and filled in a Universe that because of the stories premise worked perfectly even if it was inadvertently achieved. I am hoping that HG can pull this off again. In my opinion they have done something outstanding and rare in this modern gaming climate. I will be getting LNF on release purely because of what they managed with NMS.

    This sounds really cool and I just want to know more, especially since it's a fantasy settings, what will be our character progression like? Will there be xp? (most likely) what will be the skills and skill trees like? Will we get classes? What kind of races? This is what I want to know the most because I know everyhthing else will be delivered by Hello Games, they've proven over and over that they're amazing at world building, at story telling and the likes... However, fighting? It's one of the weakspot of NMS so I'm a bit anxious there to know more.
    However, they do have NMS experience so it will probably be something pretty amazing.

    If you take into consideration the RPG elements that are going to be in the game, and you also take into consideration that millions may be playing this at some point, the spread of those people mean that progression can't really be tied to zones. Yes, you might have some areas that are more difficult to navigate with stronger enemies, but it can't be too much because some players may be spawned there. So, how could progression be handled? Where are we going to find those rare materials and perhaps those rare chests that contain upgrades or better equipment? Consider the statement 'bigger than Earth' and also the end of the trailer. I believe progression (in terms of getting better equipment and tools) is going to be centred around 'down'. We can all happily play on the surface, building our characters up slowly and exploring at will, but it's going to be exploring beneath the surface that the real dangers rear their ugly head. Huge cave systems and caverns with phosphorescent light in lieu of daylight. A whole other world below to explore, hence 'bigger than Earth'.

    They could have those boats that fly in some fantasy games as a customizable aircraft. I think it would fit the theme. Most people would probably prefer animals, but the boats could be like a guild or party thing where you have multiple people on it interacting. Basically like the animals are the equivalent of ships and the boat things are freighters that can travel, but at a slower speed. Maybe even an option to let it auto pilot or just hover while you do stuff. Or it could just be a mobile base. They may not add that, but that would be how ship customization would apply.

    I am really looking forward to LNF. I was very late to NMS. I have put 800+ hrs into NMS since Exped 10 when I bought it. The only games to grab my attention this way were Terraria and Warframe. I can see them letting you "build you dragon mount." Gather an egg, a fertilization type, and an environmental nest type, and boom you get a very varied way to breed unique mounts. The NMS ship building and Atlantidid staff building is very similar to modular crafting in Warframe, and makes for amazing customization. Really can't wait for LNF. Same excitement vibes as when Terraria came out.

    I’ll likely pre-order once it’s available. This go around Hello Games isn’t under the pressure of a publisher like Sony when they launched NMS. There was likely some pressure from Sony to get it out when they probably felt it wasn’t quite ready. Plus how Sony put Sean in all the spotlight when he wasn’t the right guy for that kind of PR. They’ve learned from that experience and are being more tactful in when and how they’re presenting Light No Fire so they don’t have another NMS launch disaster. I’m confident that this one will have a better launch.

    Back when SM announced LNF, my gut said late 2024. I still think that is quite possible, perhaps Nov-early Dec.
    I am very curious as to whether there will be one main starting area at a specific place on the world, or perhaps several starting areas spread across the world. Also will certain areas of the world be more dangerous requiring player advancement before entering them (dungeons/player/story progression POIs excluded)? And will there be designated building areas, or will we be able to build in any region of the world?

    My guy! No building dragons! What about the egg sequencer?Also NMS was originally released by a team of just 12 people, there are many more working on this than there were originally with NMS.

    Your stream chat was way off on how long traveling around the earth would take. You're looking at closer to a year. And, remember, that is nearly a year of uninterrupted travel time. That means no oceans in your way, no mountains, no wildlife attacks, and no stopping to explore, or sleep. The earth is massive, so an earth sized planet will be an insanely large world for us to explore.

    It'd be cool if (assuming LNF has the community expedition system) on launch LNF gets an expedition that has NMS style stuff and NMS gets an expedition with LNF style stuff.

    It would be interesting if down the road once they’ve got down the Earth scaling for Light no fire that they could marry the earth scaling for a planet with the NMS universe scaling to bring a whole new level of space exploration. That would seem to be the next level of ambition once Light No Fire has been out and matured.

    The biggest problem with NMS at launch was Sony/Playstation and their timeline to push the game out on the launch day and patch it after, Sony is the major issue with why Nms had so many problems, which is why Hello games refused am exclusive deal with anyone after that game, but I can bet LNF will launch on Gamepass day 1

    HG have proven they can create a good world. What's yet to be proven is their grasp of RPG mechanics. I sincerely hope things like NPC interactions, dungeon crawling, and combat are full featured. No Man's Sky, even after all the updates, still lacks something. Here's hoping LNF is an evolution in the right direction.

    Average walking speed is about 3-4 mph. It would take around 300 days to walk around the earth. Obviously this varies with walking speed, but yeah...

  • @farroutman
    @farroutman 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Avg walking speed, 3 mph... would take just short of a year to walk around the earth in a straight line back to origin point. Right about 346 days. Walking 24 hours a day, no sleep, no rest, no stopping for anything. I've always wondered how long it takes to walk around a planet in NMS, just have way better things to do than that.

    So, what exactly are we expecting the gameplay loop to be? I've gotten a crap ton of hours in NMS, but the sandbox style games are not for everyone. I have two close friends who are also gamers that have zero interest in NMS. NMS is really about creating your own adventure. Sure, there is the campaign to follow if you want, but even that is not required. There are a lot of gamers that need to be led by the hand and need an obvious gameplay loop.
    I no longer play MMO's, but there are MMO elements that I always thought would be great for NMS. How would Light No Fire be classified?

    90 days to walk no bob hope !!! Thats like walking 2200 miles a week even if everything was flat over 300 miles a day is a push u would have to run at a pace of Usain bolts WR constantly. Probably more like 2 years give or take. So the planets huge ..., it will be very hard to fill it with enough interesting things, hope he does.
