  • Following on from video #1471, I have been sent more of the WARN contactors which have been diagniosed as failed. It's time now to test them, confirm each has failed & take a look inside to see if the failures are related to moisture ingress - like in contactor that failed in the first video...
In this video I cover a number of test that need to be performed on the contactor block to verify it's correct operation. Equipment used inclues a 12 volt battery, multi-meter & a high load tester.
Also included is another strip down & inspection of the internals tpgether with a copnclusion as to why the contactor failed....
The use of electric winches is becoming more widespread, with their fitment to many ATV & RoV vehicles nowadays. Knowing how to correctly test these solenoids is critical if the primary failure is to be identified & the winch repaired to full working order. This skill set is, at least in New Zealand, deminishing, like many other skills within the Automotive industry here. I hope, by producing this video it helps, a little, to pass on this knowledge & help you repair your own winch rather than rely on the over priced, under skilled labour found at many repair shops these days...
I invite your comments on this subject, have you a good or bad experience in having a winch repaired? What was the failure & how much did it cost to repair? With rising costs in parts combined with long delays in supply, it's likely we will see more units been replaced rather than repaired....further adding to the ''disposable'' World we find ourselves in.
The next video in this Series will be covering a strip down of a failed winch assembly, including the electric motor together with a full inspection & diagnosis as to failure - due to hit the channel in a week or so.
    Enjoy

Good job. Looks like the price of a winch weather cover is just right. Keep up the good work.

Car shock absorbers attached to diagonal brace, inside the walls of timber house, absorb earthquake energy.

Andy hello. Is this for the 8274 winch ? and if so do you know where i might be able to get a plug or connector for my remote ?
I`m using a trailer 4 pin connector on the winch and controller.I was unable to find a source for the stock round plug .
I really don`t want to buy the whole controller when just the plug was missing. Thanks
