"Offer a nap" sounds so simple. Our baby doesn't want to sleep when we try to honor his sleep window. He falls asleep in our arms, we put him in the bassinet, and 3-minutes later, he's awake and crying. Then it's another 30-minutes of crying before he falls back asleep for another attempt. Sometimes I just walk around with him and let him sleep since I know he will wake up if I put him down to sleep. It's literally witching hour from 2 pm - until....
Oh my.. I have 3 kids. All of my kids pretty much came home sleeping through the night. Such easy babies thank goodness. Well welcome my first grandson- hes perfect all day, no issues besides very gassy and sometimes throws up a lot. May need to switch formula but the store recently ran out of his.. like all the stores, it was terrible . Hes about 6 weeks. Come 10:30 he starts getting a bit irritable but not too bad. Come 2am hes up screaming until 6am. If he falls asleep its for 5 mins. Its unlike anything ive seen. He acts like all of his bottles are broken, like he forgot how to eat. Its very odd. We do have a very set routine but we do stay up late so his witching hour is very off. If it could be 5-midnight we would be fine.
I have all the sleep program between my 3 year old and newborn! Highly recommend to anyone thinking about investing in the sleep courses! My 3 year old goes to sleep so willingly, with no tantrums or night time wakes and we are a much more rested family! My newborn takes great naps and sleeps 7 hours straight but I’m here for witching hour lol I’m confident we’ll get through it with these tips though!
My husband and I have a three week old and thought we were going crazy and so frustrated. Our routine is always the same so we really didn’t get why she is like that between 5-10pm. Now we’re thinking we for sure kept her up too long and will try the 30-45 minute wake window. And train ourselves that it’s ok to put her down for a nap that often and we are not abandoning her.
You're doing wonderful, and congratulations on your precious new baby! The short wake windows can feel a little taxing at first, but they will help your little one settle for sleep much more readily! 💛 At this age, naps can occur on you or in a baby carrier too, so enjoy those baby snuggles!
I swear my 3 week newborn fights every single day time nap and never gives me sleepy ques. She hates being swaddled and spits pacifiers out across the room 😭
Congratulations on your sweet little one, Jenna! At 3 weeks of age, your little one is going to need a lot of help getting to sleep and staying asleep, so hang in there! We recommend offering a nap after 45-60 minutes of awake time, including the feed. If you haven't already, I encourage you to check out a free portion of our newborn guide, here! 💛 littlezsleep.com/newbornguide
I have a question. Do you have a video about how to handle your baby when you have to fall back and spring forward? Is there anything you can do with your baby to prepare? My daughter is now waking up between 5:30 and 6:00 am because we have a 7:00 am drop off for day care, so her mommy and daddy are already up.
Hi, my daughter is always difficult between 5-11pm. Our baby is awake for long periods of the day and doesn't go to sleep unless she has just finished breast feeding. How should we put her down for a nap, as she usually cries when left alone in her crib?
Hey there!! We would love to dig in and help when it comes to your newborn's sleep! Would you mind emailing in to us at support@littlezsleep.com and we would love to provide more insight! 💛 Becca
I have a 3 week old boy (almost 4 weeks) he’s started to get really fussy during the witching hour. When he has his first evening feed he has around 4oz of formula, after this he is bobbing his head like he’s routing for more so we try to give him more but he just rejects it and screams! Is this normal?
Yes this is normal, hang in there! That witching hour can feel so challenging but it won't last forever! At 3-4 weeks, your little one's wake windows are extremely small at around 30-45 minutes maximum! Toward the end of the day, we recommend baby wearing and doing naps on the go so that your little one doesn't go into the evening overtired. This will help your little one to be less fussy/stimulated and to take fuller, more nourishing feeds! Our newborn course would be perfect for your little one and you can find it here ------> www.littlezsleep.com/newborn
Hey, I love your channel! How do you offer a newborn (under 5 weeks) a nap? Typically they just fall asleep anywhere… but now that we are at 4 weeks I can see my daughter is overtired and I’m not sure how to “offer the nap.”
Hey there, Amber! Congratulations on your sweet new bundle! Babies are the best gift! I love this question and we'd love to dive into this in greater detail with you! Could you please copy/paste this to my team at support@littlezsleep.com so that we can provide you with the best support for you and your sweet newborn? 💛 Thank you! xo Becca

Why in the hell is this named witching HOUR ?!!!😂 it goes on for hours !! No more than morning sickness, this is a misleading name 😅
How about a baby 3 month waking at 3 am and has gas at that time he breastfeed and keep waking evry hour from than. He sleeps at 7 pm wake up at 10 breast snd 1 am and 3am from them wake up evry one hour
Hey there! I would make sure wake windows are 60-75 minutes throughout the day and baby is getting daytime feeds every 2.5-3 hours!
