    I've had one of these for probably 4 years, along with the new lower chassis to replace the broken changeover valve! And I have to say, it's people like you doing videos like this that make me refurbish even dysons I flip on facebook to the degree I do! Would be mortified if for once I cut a corner and boom, there it was being unboxed on youtube!

    I bought a refurb DC18 back in 2008, it's been great over the years. I'm ready for a refresh as its starting to show its age. I just picked up a Multi Floor Origin, however I will miss the slim design of the DC18, the only thing I don't like is that it topples over fairly easy.

    In my book the 18 is the best model dyson did. And still it is the rarest. Lovely cleaner. Well mine is
    Great review Roger. A true enthusiast!

    I never knew dyson made a dc18 or ever knew it existed. Nice machine..

    Every time James dyson just solve problems with bagged and bagless vacuums to lose suction so I love the dyson dc18 slim vacuum cleaner.

    It looks reasonable for an older machine, can see where Vax copied their Air series machine it has some reminiscence from
    DC18 on shape.

    Wouldn't it make more sense to just build yourself one from scratch using spares than paying out for one then replacing everything?

    The pickup on the left hand side of the powerhead will not be as good because the belt drive and its housing obstruct the full airflow path from the central dust outlet suction port. Dirt has a much more resricted path to the outlet port on the left hand side of the head compared to the centre and right hand side of the powerhead. The Light Ball solves this problem by being an epicyclic drive system, having no belt drive, and indeed, the V6, V7, V8 and V10 are the same, so they sweep the entire width of the powerhead with equal efficiency all across the powerhead. I noted the reference to one of JohnnyL8's videos there Roger, with the bit about not exceeding the fill line - very coy! indeed, most people would not care a jot about overfilling the bins, so the machines should be designed to be foolproof to overfilling.

    I got the other slim without the ball, that came out earlier. I never did like it. I replaced an ancient Sears canister vacuum. The Dyson didn't work half as well as a decades old Sears canister model. This is nice in that I didn't have to buy vacuum bags like with the Sears. The cleaning head just isn't heavy enough, or have enough suction to stick close to the carpet. The head just seems to bob up and down.

    I watched your review and went to buy a used one. The lady I bought it from was really confused when I started asking questions! Then I remembered I'm buying a used vacuum cleaner! Take it easy bro. It's a great machine and the one I bought is probably in worse condition!

    Are you expecting gold plated parts?

  • @jmdenison
    @jmdenison 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for doing the review. The only part I needed was getting off the handheld assembly from the main part of the vacuum. You could time stamp that. I too was worried there was a latch and I might break it if I just yanked it. However I would remark I think the one tube is too narrow I mean it won't even pick up my bird seed. And the hose is way too stiff which makes it difficult to use the vacuum. It's also extremely heavy but it'll be a good work out for me. I'm used to the canister style vacuums that are a lot easier to use

    You should have just bought all the new parts and assembled it. You are spending a lot of money on a dc18. Is this something that you are going to keep in your collection?Can you post the name of the plastic cleaner? Thanks

    Proceeds to replace everything on the vacuum to make new.
    Moral of the story - just buy a new vacuum. Lol

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Naturally, if I could have purchased this model brand new, I would have. As it has been discontinued for several years, a new in box DC18 would be very hard to get.

      @@ibaisaic hey bud, I was just messing about. Your OCD amuses me because if I'm being honest...I'm the same way, lol
      Buy used, spend more than it cost new and sit back looking at your accomplishments.
      Cheers!

      If you saw my house behind the camera, you would know. that I was in no way OCD. I admit I do like my vacuums to look as new as possible, which is why I often replace the worn parts. Unfortunately some parts are unobtainable so I have to put up with having a few imperfect cleaners as we can’t always have perfection in our lives. 🙂

    Hi Roger, very good video. I've used a "swirl remover" car polish to clean up polycarbonate plastics before and finished with Plexus Plastic Polish. Depending on the type of plastic it should work but may require a bit of elbow grease (or axle grease from the Muppets sketch) to do. Cheers.

    Had mine since 2007 and the plastic piece broke that controlls the internal valve switching from floor to hose suction. you discover this valve when the cleaning all hoses from any restriction and it still doesn't switch to the hose suction. In vertical position this valve is actuated and rotated when its placed upright.

    Its a shame dyson have now stopped supporting this machine. the reason why I know that is because my friend sister had this vacuum and the vacuum would not stand up and when I phoned up to get this sorted they told me they no longer support this machine.

    ibaisaic, I need your help.
    Shall I buy the Dyson Ball Multi Floor for £199 or the Dyson Big Ball Animal 2 for £299.
    I do not have any pets but a mixture of tiles, wood, and carpets which often get quite dusty and dirty.
    I currently own a very old Henry and a damaged v6 cordless. In need of a good value upgrade.

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Performance wise there is not much to choose between them, so you’re only paying for the extra features.

    • @nadeemm429

      Okay, thanks very much for your help. I think I will save the £100 as I don't have to worry about pet hair. Although I do think the manoeuvrability of the Animal is a nice feature.
