The X class can be had with a mercedes engine and it comes with the 7 speed mercedes auto. The frontier has a 5 speed auto. Still, it's not worth the money.

ditto, I've got a 2009 RTL that I bought used 3 years ago. It appeared to have been treated well and the previous (original) owner kept all the records, and has treated me well since I've owned it. It hauls what I need hauled, it pulls a 20' rv without breaking a sweat, and it goes off road as well as any 4x4 I've ever owned. Just one note for Scotty on this one. You titled your list "5 used trucks you should never buy". Hate to break it to you, sparky, but the 1st gen Ridgeline isn't a truck. It's not even classified as a truck. It's classified as an SUV or, more accurately, an XUV.
he obviously doesnt know that much about TRUCKS... if he did he'd know these (EVERY ONE OF THESE) are not marketed to be work trucks, they're "specialty trucks" for those who dont want a minivan but want something larger than a car. J G You’re missing the point on (the 1st Gen) Ridgeline. People aren’t buying these to haul sheets of plywood or Sheetrock. They offer 5 passenger seating with the “utility” putting items in their bed that you couldn’t get in an enclosed SUV. I use my to haul everything from Snowblowers to Motorcycles. The under trunk in the bed is actually a very useful feature as well where I have kept everything from tools, to using it’s “ice cooler” feature filling with ice and drinks. When done, there is a drain plug to drain out all the water from the melting ice.... As for reliability, the Honda 3.5 with basic oil changes and making sure you do the timing belt every 105k miles, their basically bullet-proof for a V6. I’ve also towed car trailers and a 16ft RV with the installed brake-controller tat the Ridgeline is pre-wired for. No issues whatsoever.... Agian, Scotty made the wrong call by putting the Ridgeline on this list, I’d buy a used 1st gen in a heartbeat! The 2nd Gen lost the design character of the 1st leaving the 2nd gen looking bland and much to commonly basic...

Bought a 2007 Ridgeline and used it for business and still have it to this day with over 300k on it. 0 literally 0 issues with it and we were very hard on the truck. We towed 5k every week with it
I have 2006 Ridgeline that I've I owned since new. It's been super reliable. I even towed a 19 ft travel trailer thru the mountains of B.C and it towed great. I drove a new Toyota Tacoma and found it a lot more cramped then my Ridgeline. The Tacoma front seat is a lot smaller and less supportive then the Ridgeline.
I was gonna comment that I understand all these suggestions EXCEPT the Honda. My mom had one and my best friend has 3! And they couldn't be more pleased. I don't get that one.
Scotty my dad has 2010 honda ridgeline and still solid until now. It has 260k miles on it. The only thing we change is the catalitic converter, aside from that its all good
@@suprapike Because Honda knows the market. Honda owners don't want trucks. Truck owners do not want Hondas. They made limited quantities for the overlap that does exist. And so far they have sold every one they made reliably and even have had a wait list in some areas. It was only made to be truck-like enough.

I would have to disagree with you on the Honda Ridgeline, I’ve had mine for 11 years and she’s pushing 420k miles and I’ve never ever had a huge problem with it, yeah a little rust on the rockers but fixed that up. The vtec in that thing still purrs, remember oil and oil filters improve a cars life.
Thats good to know i just bought a used 2014 ridgeline with 35k miles some guy had it in a garage never drove it. Its my first truck so im hoping I can drive it for a long time

My dad got a 2006 Honda Ridgeline when they first came out. Never broke and was a great “truck” (not really a truck). He drove it for about 90,000 miles and then I bought it since he took care of it when I was 18. Put a total of 250,000 miles on it and nothing broke on it. Only did regular maintenance. Maybe I got lucky but was kinda surprised this made the list.
same 2006 with over 230K miles , not one issue, just normal maintenance items. And it is a real truck most people who buy this class of truck do not haul anything major. It is not a f250 or f450 but it never claimed to be.
Ridgeline used as a car shouldn't give you problem. It's when Ridgeline is used as a real truck (heavy load, tow, rough terrain, etc) , it will start giving you problems.
roggie77777 100% correct. I’m currently in a 2016 F250 lariat 6.7 power stroke. It’s a work truck and I wouldn’t ever attempt to pull 18,000 pounds in my Honda lol. For what it’s design for, it’s a great truck. I really abused that truck because I took it off roading and everything. Only got stuck once lol. I over worked that truck and it still didn’t break.
whatEver why are ppl always concerned with what other ppl do with their property? just be glad we have the option for more comfortable features as better handling/feeling suspension or a/c. my dad has an old 78 f100 and you seriously feel evert single tiny bump on the road like if it was a huge pothole. worry bout yours and your money bud.
I have a 08 Ridgeline with just over 90k on it and have never had a problem. Now I don't use it as a heavy-duty use truck but for small loads and around town it's great.
Honda makes great small engines...if you were smart you would head Scottys advice and just take really good care of that automatic transmission, flush it out now if you havnt already and never ever unless your about to be hit by a train. floor it and hold it there while it shifts and use your brake instead of just switching from reverse to drive like my wife does

I bought my 2007 Ridgeline with 70,000 miles and absolutely Love it.Haven’t had any issues and have over 240,000.It’s about time for me to replace the timing belt again and my headliner needs replacement.Still drives as Great as the day I bought it.
Honestly, Scotty, I used to work at a truck accessory center, and I saw everything. Including a Honda Ridgeline with 400,000mi. I talked to the owner and I asked him what he'd done to the thing, and he straight up just said maintain it and don't try to haul more than a quad or a dirt bike in it. It's not a hauling vehicle. It's a daily driver that you can put some things in the bed of.
That's the thing he was saying for some of the other trucks. They're a Ridgeline isn't a working truck, it can't haul and doesn't have a big enough bed, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a truck in the first place.
Most people that own trucks don't haul anything more than groceries, or a washer & dryer when it's time for a new set. I recently pulled an enclosed trailer from GA to CA with my 2009 Silverado, but honestly I have hauled much with the truck since 2010.
My 2008 Ridgeline has needed very little since I purchased it used in 2010. Apart from regular maintanence items it has had the recalled airbags replaced, 3 light bulbs and a rubber in the suspension that was causing a rattle. Its a run around farm truck and has towed all kinds of stuff. Most reliable truck around here in 50 years.
my 2008 Ridgeline (lost due to a t-bone wreck), was a better machine than my 2015 Silverado. Bought with 50K miles...departed at like 125Kmiles. Moment of silence.....and the best part? When I got t-boned....I opened the door and walked away unhurt. It was a GREAT truck and it had tons of value left.
Two Ridgeline’s. 06 I put 160,000 miles on and gave to my son. 13 I put 80,000 miles on and also gave to family member. Moved up to Tundra crew cab for a little more towing capability. I’ve been very pleased with all of them.
Had a Ridgeline and loved it. I've owned many older GM trucks and they are great as well but the Ridgeline felt like it was built better and had no issues... except that the V6 burned fuel like a 5.7 liter chev V8.
I loved my 2006 Honda Ridgeline. It never gave me a bit of trouble. I gave it to my grandson when it had 278,000 miles on it over a year ago. It's his daily driver. It's still going strong. I liked that truck so much I bought a 2018 model.
I had a 1999 Ranger and went up to 200K with no major issues. I gave it to my ex landlord as I had to buy something with better gas mileage. I miss her. Best vehicle I ever owned.
Bullshit. Still driving my 1999 ford pickup and the only thing I replaced was the water pump. My buddy's all drive older Fords with no issues that amount to anything. We own 5 Ford work trucks and we beat them up. Still working them hauling landscaping stuff. They are 2000 F150s. Still running strong with no major issues. We also have 2 Tundras which are 2005s. What great trucks. They pull our equip trailers.
Not sure what your customers are doing with their ridgelines but I have a 2007 with 180,000+ miles and the only thing I've done is a set of brake rotors + 2 $5 relays for the air conditioning system. I got 85,000 miles on the first set of Michelin Tires + 95 k on the second set I'll get a 100 K ez. If you're looking to tow 10000 pounds I get your point but for the average truck owner it will handle everything they need. you should own one for a while, I think it change your mind Scotty

Same here I bought a used 2014 Ridgeline after I had owned a 2000 Chevy Silverado for 16 years. The Chevy was a good truck and never broke down.I could not afford a new Chevy truck or a newer used one and really didn't need one that big anymore. I got the last year of that model Ridgeline. I have owned it for two years and not a one thing has gone wrong with it. Is it the same kind of truck my Chevy was no but I can park it easier and I love the trunk in the bed of the truck. The interior does look like that of my 1990 Honda Civic but I like it because its simple. Didn't Scottie say Honda had the best motors? I am surprised he had any that blew up but I know every model has it lemons.
Vetman I like Scotty but I haven’t seen the numbers to back up his Ridgeline down-talk. Sure not every ridgeline has been fantastic, but there’s been a few lemony Tacomas too, and some rusted through frames. Despite the talk of pussies who’s lifestyle require a Ford Fiesta, but their insecure egos require a class 8 Kenworth, the ridgeline by in large is a great light duty truck.

My Wife bought me a Brand New 2007 Ridgeline. I’m just shy of 13 incredible years of proud Ridgeline ownership. The Vehicle has NEVER been in the Shop..., You know why - - Because they’re Friggin Perfect !!! I’ve never needed a repair, because you can’t repair Perfection !! Agree with you on all but the Honda Ridgeline. Mine has over 160,000 miles on it and the only failed component has been the started which I replaced myself for under $200
Hello, Ya mine has 310000 hard km because I use it for hunting and work, and i just had my starter go, and I found a company beside my work that rebuilds them and he did it for 110, and i did replaced it my self, very simple to replace, I don't know why he's lying saying engines blow up
@@mikemasri4617 I'm with y'all. I'm on my 2nd Ridgeline, '06 is still running after 300K miles. My 2012 RTL has over 160K miles and going strong. Granted it is not to tow like a diesel, but for me they have been great and reliable! My wife drives a RAM 1500 Ecodiesel, now that on the other hand has been in out of the shop since we purchased it in 2015. It is the last RAM truck I'll ever buy.
My husband's is an 06' and it has over 215k miles on it and it is a champ! Best truck we've owned, best vehicle we've owned. Only thing we've done was regular stuff like spark plugs, battery, tires, oil changes, timing belt, etc. Major things we've done was alternator, power steering pump. Great truck non the less for 215k plus miles on it and still runs like a champ daily.
My buddy has a Ridgeline.He tows his boat ,jumps curbs,off roads till hes stuck, loads it down with tools and equipment. Never fails him. 5,000lb tow capacity, 247hp 3.5 v6, 20+hwy mpg. In reality actually a very capable vehicle.

I really doubt 29. My Pilot gets 18 in combined city/highway driving. I think I did get 26 once between fill ups on a trip to Orlando. Every time I crank the Pilot it uses an 1/8 tank it seems.
We own a 2011 Honda Ridgeline and are very happy with it. I can’t agree with you on the RL. It is a well built vehicle with almost 90,000 miles now. There have been no issues with reliability or dependability, probably the best vehicle I have driven. The RL is very comfortable and handles easily in the city and on the highway. It won’t tow more than 5,000 lbs. but it fits our needs.
In 1998, I bought new a Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L and with a tow package, and other than it's poor mpg gas use, it's been great. I don't drive it hard, and it's at 110K miles now. I've only had to replace the radiator and starter. When the spark plugs were changed at 85k, they were completely clean. When changing break pads, the brake system was fine with flat rotors. I love my truck. The check engine light for the ABS system comes on when I get to 60 mph, so that's the only thing that needs fixing now.
First time you’re wrong. Having managed a construction fleet, we had a mix of Rams and Silverado work trucks. Very poor trucks and terrible resale. We had a three Ridgelines initially for runners between work camps. Then overtime they were pulling mixers and hauling materials. All three made it to 200K miles over 6 years. When it was time to get new vehicles, we got next to nothing for the Rams and Silverados. The Ridgelines we got 2-3X more money comparably. As for maintenance, the Ridgelines cost 50% less to maintain and did nearly 90% of the work of the “work trucks”. FYI- We had one Ridgeline blow a tranny. It was a $3,700 fix. Every Silverado and Ram we had had between one to three transmissions blown or were problematic which averaged about $4-6K per truck. It has to be reinforced that this was every Ram and Silverado we had on the fleet. No blown motors on any vehicles since we had a rigid 3,000 mile oil change regimen.
yes, I have owned a Ridgeline for almost 10 years and its been Awesome, I don't know Kilmer is making up stories saying the engines blow up. I always liked him because everything seemed true but i know with this video he's either lying or just making up stories
John NY We buy in intervals - 6 year cycles. Our newest fleet is 2014 and looking forward to 2020. FYI. I have had my share of Detroit steel and think the Ram and Silverados look better.
I've been looking for a used Ridgeline. All the comments below recommend them so I'm going to give them the thumbs up, sorry Scotty. I have 3 Hondas now all automatics with over 130K on them, still going strong.
I've got a 2009 Honda Pilot with 250K and it runs perfect. The Ridgeline uses the same platform, engine and transmission. The engine is the solid Honda J-series V6 and the transmission seems good but I still don't think I'd tow much with it. I don't trust Honda AT's.
I live in NW Montana and drive a 2009 Honda Ridgeline. I drive it in winter, drive it on logging roads hunting, and pull a 3000 lb trailer with it camping during the warmer months. It's a great vehicle. The hidden trunk under the bed, and the fold up back seats are very handy. I think something like 80% of the parts are unique to the 1st gen Ridgeline. It shared very little with the Pilot. Everything is very beefy on it, great brakes, heavy duty driveline and rear independent suspension. You see quite a few of them up here, but they're hard to find on the used car lot, because they get snapped up quick.
You never once said anything about the Ridgeline being unreliable. I've had a 2008 Ridgeline for 10 years now. Never, not once have I had an issue. Now having said that I admit I don't do towing or heavy hauling. When I purchased the Ridgeline I was looking for a something with a good comfortable ride that I could do light hauling with once in a while, was dependable and balls on the highway when I needed it. The Ridgeline fit my needs perfectly. I'd like to upgrade to a nice shiny new Ridgeline but I just can't justify spending the money when there is absolutely nothing wrong with my 08.
I have yet to hear or see anything wrong with a Ridgeline other than radiator supports on the older ones, and even that is pretty easy to remedy. Other than that, they can go for miles and miles and miles. If you're not a "truck person" but need a truck they usually fit the bill really well. I'd replace the Ridgeline on this list with any truck with a blue oval with fancy white letters in it. WAY too many trans issues. Ford truck transmissions have been slipping out of park and into reverse since the 1970s and Ford's fix: issue a warning sticker for the dash. I've personally seen a ranger sit for a while, then slip itself in to reverse, go around a building and into a golf cart. Our boss nearly had our heads if it wasn't for the security cam that proved it. "Found On Road Dead" for a reason.

114K Miles on my 2011 Ridgeline....I use it for hauling...not much towing. Only maintenance ever done is oil & filter, air filter, brakes, tires, replaced battery last year. Avg.19 MPG....Great vehicle for my Family & small Business....has been very Reliable in Snowy, Frigid Maine Winters.

I've got an 06 Ridgeline, bought used with about 80k miles, now I have 216k miles. I've done regular maintenance, timing belts every 100k, oil, tran fluid, etc. Only major repair is AC compressor this year when it was 12 years old. Replaced it myself, not as difficult as some other vehicles. I like the locking trunk under the bed, it's like a snowmobile in the snow it goes where a lot of other 4 wheel drives won't, It's a pleasure to drive, comfortable, it doesn't get the greatest gas mileage maybe about 18 MPG on average, yes, the bed is only 5' long, but i've hauled plenty of drywall and plywood, it's a little over 4' wide in the bed, but no wheel wells, it's flat wall to wall. Yes, It's not as big as a full size F150, and it doesn't have as big a carrying capacity but I do home improvement work and its done everything I've needed it to do and when I haven't had enough Room in the bed I just hook up my trailer. I really like my ridgeline I recommend them If you don't plan on pulling an RV or some humongous cabin cruiser down the highway, it'll do the job and it's a whole lot easier to park at home depot than a king cab with a full size bed which is something I like about it. My engine and transmission are fine I don't burn oil in the transmission shifts very nicely, I hope it keeps running another 200000 miles. I'd say that if I do decide to get a real pick up truck I'll probably go for the F150 Eco boost. Thanks for your video just thought I'd offer my 2 cents.
As much as I hate the ridgeline for not being a real truck.. it's a unibody, fro t wheel drive base.. so it's a car or cuv.. and as much as I love fords, please dont buy the EcoBoost. The 5.0 V8 is the way to go. You dont have the power u think you have except in the super high rpm range. You need a catch can for the turbo and the EcoBoost have turbo waste gate problems ... the v8 is the way to go if u want a truck that knows how to work
@@omarvaldez00 a truck is body on frame, rear wheel drive based with a bed. How is a unibody vehicle a truck? They dont have the strength to toe or pull like a real truck. My f150 would embarrass it with real work and my mkx can probably out tow it
I have a 2000 dodge Dakota with just a little over 200,100miles on it. The only issue I ever had (besides standard break mantinace) was the ball joints which I have had to replace once. The AC also needed to be replaced but that's it. Overall a great truck that will probably serve me another 10 years.
If you don't care about MPG, nothing screams reliability like a Tacoma for mid sized (not the current ones), or a ranger. If you want full sized, a 1990's Chevrolet C/K 1500 is definitely reliable. Although aging now. I still see more 1990's CK 1500's on the road than anything that isn't brand new. (Slight exaggeration, but still).
@@AbelG8781 The funny thing is i work in the north east and I see more chevys with problems than RAMs. Chevys are god awful with rust (Rams arent great either). I have More Cummins Diesels come in with less problems and less automatic transmission problems than Duramax Diesels. Chevy now personally makes Mall crawler trucks. I have people that come in and tow heavy trailers 20K pounds plus and gotten brand new chevys and got rid of them not even a year later since they could not hold up to the task. They all got Rams and now have had them for a year and a half and not a single problem.
Ridgeline is a decent vehicle but definitely not a full sized truck. Also the new ones have speakers in the box and a built in compartment under the box big enough to fit a keg of beer, it's like a party on wheels and I kinda want one lol.
It's not trying to be a full sized truck. The majority of comparisons I've watched over the years compare it with the midsized market trucks, which makes sense as it's far more in line with those in terms of power & capability
I owned an 08 Ridgeline for 5 years. I used it for what it was designed for....and it was the best, most reliable, most functional vehicle I've ever owned.

I owned a Ram 1500 for 10 years and no issues except for the paint flaking off and the dashboard cracked.Sold it bought another Ram 1500 have owned it for over 10 years and no issues as of yet!
I have a '97 SS/T that I'd trust coast to coast. Has over 260k on it. Couple years ago bought a used '14 R/T. Not a single issue with it and it's a killer truck. I can see the spoiler on the Daytona being a problem in using the bed, but I'd take it over any GM or Ford lol

TheIndianscout I have a Dodge Ram that I've owned for 17 years, and it's got 303,000 miles on it. Been a great truck! I only had to replace the rear spider gears in the limited slip differential, a couple fuel pumps, and the headlight switch.
@@Alex30060 stay away from ram 1500! i had a 2004 it was a money pit they all start rusting very badly around rear wheel wells ! my front drive shaft broke when using 4x4 then it got "chrysler itos " problems in wiring harness that mechanics could not figure out ,my truck would die at intersections then every time takke to shop couldnt find the problem not cheap on fuel total garbage of a truck it was a mistake buying that truck plus lost half the value when gas prices went up and everyone was selling them just stay away from them !

Scotty I have to disagree with your review on the Ridgeline. I own one since 2007 and is running as when new. Oil changes and brakes pads are the only maintenance done. I'm already at 302,000 miles; engine and TRANSMISSION are running STRONG. PAINT and interior look brand new; always getting compliments at the Honda dealership. I believe it can easily meke it to 500,000 miles.
15 yr Honda technician here... Anyone that says Ridgelines aren't reliable needs to do their "research" better. I've seen many with over 200k on them with minimal issues...and everyone of the owners has been happy with the "truck".
Ridgeline had since 2009. It's a 2006, first model.. 236,000 miles. Constant stretches towing a 1,200lb fishing boat and equipment at least 6 times a year since owned. Bout 600 miles each way. Replaced brakes, the compressor and three wheel bearings that's all.. Scotty seems to have a Ford bias. My lady's 2012 Ford F150 needed a new tyranny at 47,000 miles. My brother in laws 2014 at 52,000, and my bestie's 2015 trailing us to the Gulf, towing his boat and his fishing equipment broke down in Valdosta GA. Same reason, transmission.. Where are you Scotty..? SCOTTY YOU SAY WHAT..?
Great vehicle. Its not a full size truck . But its reliable, powerful and economical compared to similar class trucks. Frontier, ranger, colorado, etc.
Isn't the X Class based off of the Nissan Navara (which isn't sold here in NA but I've seen em in other countries) and some say those are reliable, are they?
It seems to me that nowadays, pick up trucks are the new “ricers”. The tweek the heck out of them. They lift them up five feet high and put giant wheels on them.
@@jacesgarage658 strain on the driveshaft, the driveshaft is engineered to operate at a specific angle. Suspension could have even more problems depending on who lifted it.
A lowered truck is worse than a lifted truck. A lowered truck completely defeats the purpose of a pickup truck in general. Unless you live in a rich city like Dubai, go for it, but for the average city where roads are not always smooth. Have fun when you see potholes!
621k kms on a 09 Ridgleline before the motor locked up......the transmissions behind the Ridgelines are a Manual based with soloniods to change the gears. It's not a conventional ring/sun/Carrier assembly.
There's been healthy debate on how much "truck" is a Ridgeline, but it definitely does not belong on a "do not buy" list. From what I know: 1. It's a Honda 2. It drives like a car 3. You can reach into the bed without getting a hernia 4. it will fit a sheet of 8x4 (unlike the new Ranger which has a bed UNDER 4 feet wide) 5. Has surprisingly good off road handling capability 6. Has a much more car-like cabin than either Ford or Toyota 7. The under-floor storage doubles as a small trunk In my mind it's more a family activity vehicle than it is a truck. Not great for gooseneck towing or transporting gravel, but it's just the vehicle for carrying home anything you can find at Home Depot or Ikea, which for a growing family WILL HAPPEN. The ability to carry bikes in the bed also makes it more useful. I have seen hitch-mounted bike racks snap in half with the car stopped dead in the #1 lane on a freeway. And you can laughably pick up four people from the airport with 8 huge suitcases too - try doing that with a Crown Vic or Prius.
Nothing except a 3/4 ton or better is designed for hauling gooseneck, so mentioning gooseneck trailers and a Honda Ridgeline is ridiculous as it is... The Ridgeline isn't even a half ton Ute pickup. The Ridgeline is like a passenger car with a midget bed and the ugly styling of the avalanche (well the old ones anyways, I actually kind of like the look of the new ones.). You say it can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed, but I don't see how that is considering how narrow of a vehicle it is. You can fit a 4x8 in the bed of my Ranger, it's just tilted because it doesn't quite fit between the wheel wells. I would imagine with the Ridgeline, it would be exactly the same, because the Ridgeline I believe is the same width as an S10 and a Ranger and a Colorado, is it not? If it is wider, that is surprising to me, but I can only imagine that the bed leaves almost half of the sheet hanging out even with the tailgate down.
But he was talking about the ridgeline as a work truck not a daily grocery getter and weekend camping, but dependability when doing truck stuff like heavy hauling towing pulling

I love most of your videos Scotty, but for the first time I will disagree with you on the Ridgeline I own a 2007 with 190k on it. Never had issues with it besides oil, gas, tires and brakes. You make great videos though.
Sure, your ONE vehicle disproves the statistics of what a mechanic of many years has seen, just like that ONE owner of every other make and model out there that has had no problems, proves that no cars or trucks ever have problems. That is why no mechanics exist.
Stinky Cheese funny thing it's there more than ONE comment about how reliable they are. The bottom line is people will buy what ever they want. I love my mini truck, my dad has a 2001 Silverado that's has been very reliable as well with over 300k. Main reason I got mine it's because it does what I need it for.
1993 F150 302 that 230,000 original miles everything’s original just did the transmission go to overdrive band was slipping but it was in pretty good shape considering the mileage
Our Ridgeline is a 2014 with 68 thousand miles and no issue thusfar. It's my wife's daily driver. She doesn't need a truck for utility purposes. I just want her to be in that in case she ever gets involved in an accident. We love it for long road trips. Quiet and comfortable. I will say that the navigation system is not intuitive and sort of a relic of a design.
Stick within the towing limits (5,000 pounds) and do maintenance. You can easily get 250k out of a Ridgeline. That V6 is bulletproof when taken care of. Transmissions don't have issues unless they're over worked (like going over the towing limits)
Greetings from a ridgeline owner with over 285k miles and running strong. It's always loaded down with all my gear. Only thing I've had to do that wasn't general maintenance was replace the high pressure power steering line that dry rotted. And it's plenty capable of hauling as long as you aren't trying to haul a bed full of bedrock or pallets of readymix.
Now Scotty, I’ve got to disagree. I’ve owned a couple Dodge Ram’s and they are great for a Mechanic to learn on. You can learn to replace all the steering gear, ball joints, etc. Then for electrical faults you can learn how to fix a variety items and if your inclined can even learn to desolder and replace relays on the circuit boards. And then you can learn to repair corroded electrical connectors. After all this great training you can charge others to fix their wonderful Dodge’s. How’s that for being positive. Rusted out in Michigan. LOL
A few guys at work bought Tacoma's and after 3 years traded them in because they rust profusely were very flimsy and cheaply made, the frames rust horribly and the interior doesn't even have a power adjustable seat. They also seem to go through wheel bearings and front end components like candy and suffer oil leaks and engine issues. Surprise- they now drive either a F-150 or Silverado. There are even videos right here on TH-cam that talk about how unreliable the 2016-2019 Tacoma's are and even CR doesn't recommend them
My family has had a Ridgeline for well over a decade now, and while it certainly is debatable whether or not it's a "real truck," it's been a very reliable vehicle.
It's officially a mid size light truck. The only reason why it's a debate is because they're not popular like the other models. But they are definitely mid size trucks. Pound for pound, the Ridgeline since 2016 has had the best overall ratings according to some publications like Consumer Reports.
The advantage the Ridgeline has which I have started to learn a bit about light trucks is its uni body construction. It's a bit more expensive to make during production, but it strengthens the overall durability of the light truck. I think Ford and Dodge will make one of their special edition pick up trucks a uni body from time to time. The Ridgeline is extremely underrated because of assumptions - and because of course, it's a Honda made vehicle. But it's definitely a very strong and reliable pick up truck. It's just engineered a lot more different than your typical pick up truck. I think the blown engine thing is a bit isolated. I always believe most modern pickup truck performance depends on the owner. Many owners assume too many things from a mid size truck. Most modern ones worth their salt are good. The American light truck market no longer dominates as they normally used to.
Todd Sands Yeah the engine issues were a few isolated vehicles from the 2006 model year. Otherwise, the engines are honestly pretty bulletproof, probably the most robust J series engine and the strongest auto trans that Honda makes considering that they assumed that people might tow with it.
I have a 2006 Ridgeline that I purchased used at 198K about 2 years ago as a daily driver. It now has over 250k. Last year, I drove it from Georgia to South Dakota pulling a 3000 lb trailer with 3 other passengers. This is the most reliable, comfortable, and versatile vehicle I have ever owned. Maybe it was the previous owner who took care of it from the start, but from speaking to other RL owners they all have the same good things to say about this model. I would not hesitate to purchase another but my RL is going so strong now, I don't have the heart to trade her in.
Scotty love the videos usually but what you said about the Ridgeline is way off. My truck went 245000 hard miles before I finally blew the motor and that was my fault. I was lapsed on changing the timing belt by 145000 miles. I drove it regularly. It did haul some stuff when I needed it to. It drove like a car down class 5 dirt roads with snow and never got stuck. I'm over 500lbs and it is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. I've owned Grand Marquis, Tahoe s, Full size trucks too
I think the Ridgeline is not as utilitarian and maybe some people hurt the transmissions by hauling or towing too much weight. I have never heard anyone complain about them using as a sport utility, kind of like a Pilot with a small bed instead of the trunk.
I have a 2008 Ridgeline with 144 k miles on it. It's not for "heavy duty truck stuff", like some of the other trucks I've had, but it's good for hauling lots of "odds and ends", and things that just won't fit too well in a SUV or might get the carpet dirty. It's also a lot easier to park, but the mpg should be better. Over all, I like it.
It's probably bullet proof if it never has any sort of load in the rear. Transmission and independent rear suspension are more suited for a car or SUV, not a truck.
As the original owner of a 2007 Ridgeline still going strong, this has been the absolute best vehicle I've owned bar none. Other than regular maintenance (tires, battery, fluids, timing belt, etc.) and replacing one worn engine mount in the past 12 years, NOTHING in this Ridgeline has failed. My only complaint is that gas mileage isn't great, and I've always averaged 16 mpg since day one (22 mpg freeway only driving).
Disagree with you on the Ridgeline and SSR. The Ridge isnt a work truck in the truest sense, but its plenty of truck for 90% of people who own trucks in the way people actually use them. The SSR was never meant to be used as a work truck, it was more like a factory custom hotrod. I personally think they are a neat idea in a world of cookie cutter crossover/ sport UTIlity borefests on wheels. And they are pretty solidly built.
The ridgeline isn’t really a truck...in the truest sense. It’s a pilot for the most part with a small bed. Family of mine had one and it’s been reliable 100%.

aloysious Pickups are generally two separate pieces on a body-on-frame platform. Come in either RWD or 4x4. Ram 1500 handles amazing btw. Honda calls the Ridgeline a SUT “Sport Utility Truck”, it’s like a triple crossover features of a SUV, a Truck, and Car. Just like Pilot it’s built on a car-like Unibody crossover platform. Only difference is the Ridgeline a bed like truck. It’s also FWD based AWD. So it’s basically not a full on Truck, but it’s own separate thing. Hyundai is building a similar vehicle based on the Santa Fe.
I work for Honda. Ridgelines are sought after by everyone. Bulletproof truck when regular maintenance is performed. One customer came in and said he loved his Ridgeline more than his F150 becuase it gave him zero problems compared to the F150.
Why so salty?? Do you see Ridgekines often on the road? If they were 1/2 as good as a real pickup truck such as silverados Rams or f-150s, you would see some on the road. Honda and Toyota people are easily triggered damn😂
I own both a ford and a ridgeline. I'd take the honda any day of the week. I may be able to put a few more pounds in the ford, but I know the ridgeline will get me where im going.
Honda Ridgeline is based on the pilot, which has the 3.5 v6 which is in the odyssey, and accord... They're usually quite reliable, so idk if I'd agree with that.
In America trucks are purpose built for utility and it's when the ridgeline is encountered with this utility that it can't compete (farm work, Construction, Offroad with load, and general work abuse). True a lot of people who own trucks will never subject their vehicle to such rigors but they could if they wanted or had too. It's the definition of a truck in America that has brought such a stigma to the Ridgeline but yes as city hauling commuter it's good.

Had a 1988 Silverado V6 with a 5 speed manual. Best truck ever. Had 400,000 miles and didn't even leak oil or smoke. Ended up scrapping it even though it still ran and drove.
The old honda ridgelines weren't as great as the 2nd gen. But Honda listened to those complaints in the past and built a better truck. Truck enthusiasts would still say it isn't a truck, but it has a bed and it could haul medium sized things so it still passes. Hell, it's just as good as my dad's 2001 F150 XLT which is a V8 and the ridgeline has better fuel economy. It is also the safest pickup truck to date. I also love that it handles like a car so it can go swiftly through corners and has a tighter turning radius. It also has the best gas powered fuel economy of the mid-size pickup range. Honda's goal with the Ridgeline was to create a truck that was completely practical with all levels of truck use and although it suffers in the looks department, it's not really about the aesthetics, but the function.
Love my 2019 Ridgeline. Drives great decent fuel mileage comfortable on long trips trunk is handy and while I missed the volume knob the steering wheel control is perfect.
Scotty, I hope your wrong about the Honda Ridgeline. I have a 2014. I like it because you can't haul alot with it. No one asks me to help them move. Nobody is asking me to move their tractor anymore. No one is calling me to pull their truck out of the mud. I can put a lawnmower in it. I can put gas cans in the back and take trash to the dump. I work in the city and parking a big truck is a pain. I had a 2500 Silverado before this truck. My Ridgeline is my city truck. I can. park it like a car.
Just like a lot of people I have to disagree about the Ridgeline, that truck is pretty bullet proof for the most part and should be no where on this list.
Scotty, Just to make sure- your specifically talking about the Ram Daytona model and not the other 1500 series? I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and have had almost no issues with it so far..granted I do not do hard work with it. I use it for weekend trips to the Lowes and otherwise just highway mileage to and from my job. I also have a 2013 Dodge Dart that I use for 3-4 times a week for work to help save on MPG and keep the miles down on my truck..no issues with it either and both have around 42k on them.
I completely agree. I had a 2005 Colorado Z71. I did all of the regular maintenance required. Blew the trans at 38,000 miles - to be fair, my buddy was driving it towing a 14ft enclosed trailer, but well below the trucks rated towing capacity, it did not have a trans cooler and it over heated the transmission and blew the forward clutch piston seal and cooked the clutches for 1stmaking it almost impossible to start moving from a stop. $2,800 (warranty) and 1 month later I had it back with a GM re-man transmission. I liked the appearance of the truck, and I did really like the sound the 5cylinder engine made, especially with a good intake on it - sounded somewhat like a viper's v-10 and when new it had ok power. As it aged I had a misfire that I could not trace down, come to find out the 3.5's had bad valve seats. Some got fixed under warranty, some didn't. I will say, the truck itself was pretty tough, but when parts started to fail it just cascaded really quick and became an endless money pit. I went through 5 sets of front wheel bearings in two and a half years, nobody could figure out why. It had 206,000 miles on it when I traded it for a Nissan Frontier a year ago. I owned it for 6 years, bought with 35,000 miles on it when I traded it I had replaced: 1 transmission, 5 SETS of front hubs, thermostat because it failed and ran too cold, the accessory belt tensioner because it failed and ate into the timing cover, the power steering return hose got a hole worn through from vibration where it mounts to the crossmember and destroyed the power steering pump (the pump was still working when I sold it, but it was on its way out), the water pump suddenly grenaded on me at work one day without any warning - that was a fun repair in freezing temperatures right before Christmas, the wiring harness for the ac blower burned out and I had to replace that, the power steering rack and tie rod ends were shot at 140,000 miles... Oh, and you better hope you never need to change the timing chain on it because you have to take the engine out to do it, may as well just swap the enigne instead... Like I said, MONEY PIT. STAY AWAY...
We have a 2007 Ridgeline that we purchased used in 2009. It now has a 185,000 miles on it after driving long distances and off road for work. Truck was able to pass areas that co-workers weren’t able to with their Toyota trucks. The ride is far more comfortable as well. We’ve had a major service on it and kept up with maintenance. The power steering does have a crack in it now. We keep debating whether to fix it or just keep using the leak stop. 🤷♀️ Really, we are just in awe of how well this truck is still doing and all that it has been through.... no light duty here. I could go on about all the other aspects I love about it...

The X class can be had with a mercedes engine and it comes with the 7 speed mercedes auto. The frontier has a 5 speed auto. Still, it's not worth the money.

My first time disagreeing with Scotty. I own a 2012 Ridgeline Sport (same as in your pop up video)... Completely trouble-free and most dependable and functional!
ditto, I've got a 2009 RTL that I bought used 3 years ago. It appeared to have been treated well and the previous (original) owner kept all the records, and has treated me well since I've owned it. It hauls what I need hauled, it pulls a 20' rv without breaking a sweat, and it goes off road as well as any 4x4 I've ever owned. Just one note for Scotty on this one. You titled your list "5 used trucks you should never buy". Hate to break it to you, sparky, but the 1st gen Ridgeline isn't a truck. It's not even classified as a truck. It's classified as an SUV or, more accurately, an XUV.
he obviously doesnt know that much about TRUCKS... if he did he'd know these (EVERY ONE OF THESE) are not marketed to be work trucks, they're "specialty trucks" for those who dont want a minivan but want something larger than a car. It'd be like saying dont buy this sports car and then list a bunch of hybrids...
J G You’re missing the point on (the 1st Gen) Ridgeline. People aren’t buying these to haul sheets of plywood or Sheetrock. They offer 5 passenger seating with the “utility” putting items in their bed that you couldn’t get in an enclosed SUV. I use my to haul everything from Snowblowers to Motorcycles. The under trunk in the bed is actually a very useful feature as well where I have kept everything from tools, to using it’s “ice cooler” feature filling with ice and drinks. When done, there is a drain plug to drain out all the water from the melting ice.... As for reliability, the Honda 3.5 with basic oil changes and making sure you do the timing belt every 105k miles, their basically bullet-proof for a V6. I’ve also towed car trailers and a 16ft RV with the installed brake-controller tat the Ridgeline is pre-wired for. No issues whatsoever.... Agian, Scotty made the wrong call by putting the Ridgeline on this list, I’d buy a used 1st gen in a heartbeat! The 2nd Gen lost the design character of the 1st leaving the 2nd gen looking bland and much to commonly basic...
Another RL owner here. 90k on it and it still runs like new. Don't understand why this one is on the list. I'd certainly buy a used one.
My 1999 Tacoma is 20 years old and running wonderfully. 207,000 and doesn't burn a drop of oil, no rust, she has been a great vehicle.

Bought a 2007 Ridgeline and used it for business and still have it to this day with over 300k on it. 0 literally 0 issues with it and we were very hard on the truck. We towed 5k every week with it
I have 2006 Ridgeline that I've I owned since new. It's been super reliable. I even towed a 19 ft travel trailer thru the mountains of B.C and it towed great. I drove a new Toyota Tacoma and found it a lot more cramped then my Ridgeline. The Tacoma front seat is a lot smaller and less supportive then the Ridgeline.
I don't get why the Ridgeline gets too much hate, I'd personally buy one.

I was gonna comment that I understand all these suggestions EXCEPT the Honda. My mom had one and my best friend has 3! And they couldn't be more pleased. I don't get that one.
Scotty my dad has 2010 honda ridgeline and still solid until now. It has 260k miles on it. The only thing we change is the catalitic converter, aside from that its all good
I have a 2011 170,000 km ( Canada ), I haven't even changed a light bulb yet. I think that Scotty had a bad day.
As a truck it kind of sucks. Dont know why honda dont just build a.truck
@@suprapike Because Honda knows the market. Honda owners don't want trucks. Truck owners do not want Hondas. They made limited quantities for the overlap that does exist. And so far they have sold every one they made reliably and even have had a wait list in some areas. It was only made to be truck-like enough.

Honda has stated it doesn’t want to wade into the pickup market. The hype pickup crowd are an insecure bunch, and some of the most impractical shoppers that rival teenage girl’s sensibilities.
And I’ve driven “big tough” American trucks all my life, but this new age of cultish truck buyers are a tender group.
Honda states it doesn’t want to pull from the traditional pickup crowd, but just to give current Honda owners a pickup option to keep the buyers fleet all-Honda

I would have to disagree with you on the Honda Ridgeline, I’ve had mine for 11 years and she’s pushing 420k miles and I’ve never ever had a huge problem with it, yeah a little rust on the rockers but fixed that up. The vtec in that thing still purrs, remember oil and oil filters improve a cars life.
As soon as it hits 420 it will start smoking

Ridge line is a city truck... not really meant to tow/haul stuff... but a great for doing light duty things, for a carpenter/maintenance man.
My dad got a 2006 Honda Ridgeline when they first came out. Never broke and was a great “truck” (not really a truck). He drove it for about 90,000 miles and then I bought it since he took care of it when I was 18. Put a total of 250,000 miles on it and nothing broke on it. Only did regular maintenance. Maybe I got lucky but was kinda surprised this made the list.

same 2006 with over 230K miles , not one issue, just normal maintenance items. And it is a real truck most people who buy this class of truck do not haul anything major. It is not a f250 or f450 but it never claimed to be.

Ridgeline used as a car shouldn't give you problem. It's when Ridgeline is used as a real truck (heavy load, tow, rough terrain, etc) , it will start giving you problems.
roggie77777 100% correct. I’m currently in a 2016 F250 lariat 6.7 power stroke. It’s a work truck and I wouldn’t ever attempt to pull 18,000 pounds in my Honda lol. For what it’s design for, it’s a great truck. I really abused that truck because I took it off roading and everything. Only got stuck once lol. I over worked that truck and it still didn’t break.

whatEver why are ppl always concerned with what other ppl do with their property? just be glad we have the option for more comfortable features as better handling/feeling suspension or a/c. my dad has an old 78 f100 and you seriously feel evert single tiny bump on the road like if it was a huge pothole. worry bout yours and your money bud.

I have a 08 Ridgeline with just over 90k on it and have never had a problem. Now I don't use it as a heavy-duty use truck but for small loads and around town it's great.
Honda makes great small engines...if you were smart you would head Scottys advice and just take really good care of that automatic transmission, flush it out now if you havnt already and never ever unless your about to be hit by a train. floor it and hold it there while it shifts and use your brake instead of just switching from reverse to drive like my wife does

Honestly, Scotty, I used to work at a truck accessory center, and I saw everything. Including a Honda Ridgeline with 400,000mi. I talked to the owner and I asked him what he'd done to the thing, and he straight up just said maintain it and don't try to haul more than a quad or a dirt bike in it. It's not a hauling vehicle. It's a daily driver that you can put some things in the bed of.
Honda needs to make a real full-sized truck, similar to a Tundra, with a V8 or a turbo-charged V6.
That's the thing he was saying for some of the other trucks. They're a Ridgeline isn't a working truck, it can't haul and doesn't have a big enough bed, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a truck in the first place.

I recently pulled an enclosed trailer from GA to CA with my 2009 Silverado, but honestly I have hauled much with the truck since 2010.
My 2008 Ridgeline has needed very little since I purchased it used in 2010. Apart from regular maintanence items it has had the recalled airbags replaced, 3 light bulbs and a rubber in the suspension that was causing a rattle. Its a run around farm truck and has towed all kinds of stuff. Most reliable truck around here in 50 years.
my 2008 Ridgeline (lost due to a t-bone wreck), was a better machine than my 2015 Silverado. Bought with 50K miles...departed at like 125Kmiles. Moment of silence.....and the best part? When I got t-boned....I opened the door and walked away unhurt. It was a GREAT truck and it had tons of value left.

Two Ridgeline’s. 06 I put 160,000 miles on and gave to my son. 13 I put 80,000 miles on and also gave to family member. Moved up to Tundra crew cab for a little more towing capability. I’ve been very pleased with all of them.
Had a Ridgeline and loved it. I've owned many older GM trucks and they are great as well but the Ridgeline felt like it was built better and had no issues... except that the V6 burned fuel like a 5.7 liter chev V8.

I loved my 2006 Honda Ridgeline. It never gave me a bit of trouble. I gave it to my grandson when it had 278,000 miles on it over a year ago. It's his daily driver. It's still going strong. I liked that truck so much I bought a 2018 model.

Bullshit. Still driving my 1999 ford pickup and the only thing I replaced was the water pump. My buddy's all drive older Fords with no issues that amount to anything. We own 5 Ford work trucks and we beat them up. Still working them hauling landscaping stuff. They are 2000 F150s. Still running strong with no major issues. We also have 2 Tundras which are 2005s. What great trucks. They pull our equip trailers.

Not sure what your customers are doing with their ridgelines but I have a 2007 with 180,000+ miles and the only thing I've done is a set of brake rotors + 2 $5 relays for the air conditioning system. I got 85,000 miles on the first set of Michelin Tires + 95 k on the second set I'll get a 100 K ez. If you're looking to tow 10000 pounds I get your point but for the average truck owner it will handle everything they need. you should own one for a while, I think it change your mind Scotty

Same here I bought a used 2014 Ridgeline after I had owned a 2000 Chevy Silverado for 16 years. The Chevy was a good truck and never broke down.I could not afford a new Chevy truck or a newer used one and really didn't need one that big anymore. I got the last year of that model Ridgeline. I have owned it for two years and not a one thing has gone wrong with it. Is it the same kind of truck my Chevy was no but I can park it easier and I love the trunk in the bed of the truck. The interior does look like that of my 1990 Honda Civic but I like it because its simple. Didn't Scottie say Honda had the best motors? I am surprised he had any that blew up but I know every model has it lemons.

Hello, Ya mine has 310000 hard km because I use it for hunting and work, and i just had my starter go, and I found a company beside my work that rebuilds them and he did it for 110, and i did replaced it my self, very simple to replace, I don't know why he's lying saying engines blow up

Granted it is not to tow like a diesel, but for me they have been great and reliable! My wife drives a RAM 1500 Ecodiesel, now that on the other hand has been in out of the shop since we purchased it in 2015. It is the last RAM truck I'll ever buy.
My husband's is an 06' and it has over 215k miles on it and it is a champ! Best truck we've owned, best vehicle we've owned. Only thing we've done was regular stuff like spark plugs, battery, tires, oil changes, timing belt, etc. Major things we've done was alternator, power steering pump. Great truck non the less for 215k plus miles on it and still runs like a champ daily.
My buddy has a Ridgeline.He tows his boat ,jumps curbs,off roads till hes stuck, loads it down with tools and equipment. Never fails him. 5,000lb tow capacity, 247hp 3.5 v6, 20+hwy mpg. In reality actually a very capable vehicle.

I really doubt 29. My Pilot gets 18 in combined city/highway driving. I think I did get 26 once between fill ups on a trip to Orlando. Every time I crank the Pilot it uses an 1/8 tank it seems.

We own a 2011 Honda Ridgeline and are very happy with it. I can’t agree with you on the RL. It is a well built vehicle with almost 90,000 miles now. There have been no issues with reliability or dependability, probably the best vehicle I have driven. The RL is very comfortable and handles easily in the city and on the highway. It won’t tow more than 5,000 lbs. but it fits our needs.

In 1998, I bought new a Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L and with a tow package, and other than it's poor mpg gas use, it's been great. I don't drive it hard, and it's at 110K miles now. I've only had to replace the radiator and starter. When the spark plugs were changed at 85k, they were completely clean. When changing break pads, the brake system was fine with flat rotors. I love my truck. The check engine light for the ABS system comes on when I get to 60 mph, so that's the only thing that needs fixing now.

First time you’re wrong. Having managed a construction fleet, we had a mix of Rams and Silverado work trucks. Very poor trucks and terrible resale. We had a three Ridgelines initially for runners between work camps. Then overtime they were pulling mixers and hauling materials. All three made it to 200K miles over 6 years.
When it was time to get new vehicles, we got next to nothing for the Rams and Silverados. The Ridgelines we got 2-3X more money comparably. As for maintenance, the Ridgelines cost 50% less to maintain and did nearly 90% of the work of the “work trucks”.
FYI- We had one Ridgeline blow a tranny. It was a $3,700 fix. Every Silverado and Ram we had had between one to three transmissions blown or were problematic which averaged about $4-6K per truck. It has to be reinforced that this was every Ram and Silverado we had on the fleet. No blown motors on any vehicles since we had a rigid 3,000 mile oil change regimen.

I've got a 2009 Honda Pilot with 250K and it runs perfect. The Ridgeline uses the same platform, engine and transmission. The engine is the solid Honda J-series V6 and the transmission seems good but I still don't think I'd tow much with it. I don't trust Honda AT's.
Those comments are by people trying to get rid of (sell) theirs and they don't want the world to realize why and destroy their resale value.

I live in NW Montana and drive a 2009 Honda Ridgeline. I drive it in winter, drive it on logging roads hunting, and pull a 3000 lb trailer with it camping during the warmer months. It's a great vehicle. The hidden trunk under the bed, and the fold up back seats are very handy. I think something like 80% of the parts are unique to the 1st gen Ridgeline. It shared very little with the Pilot. Everything is very beefy on it, great brakes, heavy duty driveline and rear independent suspension. You see quite a few of them up here, but they're hard to find on the used car lot, because they get snapped up quick.
You never once said anything about the Ridgeline being unreliable. I've had a 2008 Ridgeline for 10 years now. Never, not once have I had an issue. Now having said that I admit I don't do towing or heavy hauling. When I purchased the Ridgeline I was looking for a something with a good comfortable ride that I could do light hauling with once in a while, was dependable and balls on the highway when I needed it. The Ridgeline fit my needs perfectly. I'd like to upgrade to a nice shiny new Ridgeline but I just can't justify spending the money when there is absolutely nothing wrong with my 08.

I have yet to hear or see anything wrong with a Ridgeline other than radiator supports on the older ones, and even that is pretty easy to remedy. Other than that, they can go for miles and miles and miles. If you're not a "truck person" but need a truck they usually fit the bill really well. I'd replace the Ridgeline on this list with any truck with a blue oval with fancy white letters in it. WAY too many trans issues. Ford truck transmissions have been slipping out of park and into reverse since the 1970s and Ford's fix: issue a warning sticker for the dash. I've personally seen a ranger sit for a while, then slip itself in to reverse, go around a building and into a golf cart. Our boss nearly had our heads if it wasn't for the security cam that proved it. "Found On Road Dead" for a reason.
I love my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. Never had a problem. My cousins 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 will soon be out of the shop after he gets a new transmission 😂😂😂

114K Miles on my 2011 Ridgeline....I use it for hauling...not much towing. Only maintenance ever done is oil & filter, air filter, brakes, tires, replaced battery last year. Avg.19 MPG....Great vehicle for my Family & small Business....has been very Reliable in Snowy, Frigid Maine Winters.

I've got an 06 Ridgeline, bought used with about 80k miles, now I have 216k miles. I've done regular maintenance, timing belts every 100k, oil, tran fluid, etc. Only major repair is AC compressor this year when it was 12 years old. Replaced it myself, not as difficult as some other vehicles. I like the locking trunk under the bed, it's like a snowmobile in the snow it goes where a lot of other 4 wheel drives won't, It's a pleasure to drive, comfortable, it doesn't get the greatest gas mileage maybe about 18 MPG on average, yes, the bed is only 5' long, but i've hauled plenty of drywall and plywood, it's a little over 4' wide in the bed, but no wheel wells, it's flat wall to wall. Yes, It's not as big as a full size F150, and it doesn't have as big a carrying capacity but I do home improvement work and its done everything I've needed it to do and when I haven't had enough Room in the bed I just hook up my trailer. I really like my ridgeline I recommend them If you don't plan on pulling an RV or some humongous cabin cruiser down the highway, it'll do the job and it's a whole lot easier to park at home depot than a king cab with a full size bed which is something I like about it. My engine and transmission are fine I don't burn oil in the transmission shifts very nicely, I hope it keeps running another 200000 miles. I'd say that if I do decide to get a real pick up truck I'll probably go for the F150 Eco boost. Thanks for your video just thought I'd offer my 2 cents.

As much as I hate the ridgeline for not being a real truck.. it's a unibody, fro t wheel drive base.. so it's a car or cuv.. and as much as I love fords, please dont buy the EcoBoost. The 5.0 V8 is the way to go. You dont have the power u think you have except in the super high rpm range. You need a catch can for the turbo and the EcoBoost have turbo waste gate problems ... the v8 is the way to go if u want a truck that knows how to work

I have a 2000 dodge Dakota with just a little over 200,100miles on it. The only issue I ever had (besides standard break mantinace) was the ball joints which I have had to replace once. The AC also needed to be replaced but that's it. Overall a great truck that will probably serve me another 10 years.

If you don't care about MPG, nothing screams reliability like a Tacoma for mid sized (not the current ones), or a ranger. If you want full sized, a 1990's Chevrolet C/K 1500 is definitely reliable. Although aging now. I still see more 1990's CK 1500's on the road than anything that isn't brand new. (Slight exaggeration, but still).

I work for a company that bought several Dodge trucks for the fleet and all of them had ball joints break during low speed parking lot manuvering.
This is inexcusable-ball joints ought to be strong enough to last the life of the vehicle-some purchaing guy decided to go cheap and save a few cents.

@@AbelG8781 The funny thing is i work in the north east and I see more chevys with problems than RAMs. Chevys are god awful with rust (Rams arent great either). I have More Cummins Diesels come in with less problems and less automatic transmission problems than Duramax Diesels. Chevy now personally makes Mall crawler trucks. I have people that come in and tow heavy trailers 20K pounds plus and gotten brand new chevys and got rid of them not even a year later since they could not hold up to the task. They all got Rams and now have had them for a year and a half and not a single problem.

Ridgeline is a decent vehicle but definitely not a full sized truck. Also the new ones have speakers in the box and a built in compartment under the box big enough to fit a keg of beer, it's like a party on wheels and I kinda want one lol.

It's not trying to be a full sized truck. The majority of comparisons I've watched over the years compare it with the midsized market trucks, which makes sense as it's far more in line with those in terms of power & capability
The 1G ridgeline has the same bed trunk, I think about the same size too. So consider that too if you wanna get your kegger-mobile a little cheaper!!

I have a '97 SS/T that I'd trust coast to coast. Has over 260k on it. Couple years ago bought a used '14 R/T. Not a single issue with it and it's a killer truck. I can see the spoiler on the Daytona being a problem in using the bed, but I'd take it over any GM or Ford lol

TheIndianscout I have a Dodge Ram that I've owned for 17 years, and it's got 303,000 miles on it. Been a great truck! I only had to replace the rear spider gears in the limited slip differential, a couple fuel pumps, and the headlight switch.
@@Alex30060 stay away from ram 1500! i had a 2004 it was a money pit they all start rusting very badly around rear wheel wells ! my front drive shaft broke when using 4x4 then it got "chrysler itos " problems in wiring harness that mechanics could not figure out ,my truck would die at intersections then every time takke to shop couldnt find the problem not cheap on fuel total garbage of a truck it was a mistake buying that truck plus lost half the value when gas prices went up and everyone was selling them just stay away from them !

Scotty I have to disagree with your review on the Ridgeline. I own one since 2007 and is running as when new. Oil changes and brakes pads are the only maintenance done. I'm already at 302,000 miles; engine and TRANSMISSION are running STRONG. PAINT and interior look brand new; always getting compliments at the Honda dealership. I believe it can easily meke it to 500,000 miles.

Ridgeline had since 2009. It's a 2006, first model.. 236,000 miles. Constant stretches towing a 1,200lb fishing boat and equipment at least 6 times a year since owned. Bout 600 miles each way. Replaced brakes, the compressor and three wheel bearings that's all.. Scotty seems to have a Ford bias. My lady's 2012 Ford F150 needed a new tyranny at 47,000 miles. My brother in laws 2014 at 52,000, and my bestie's 2015 trailing us to the Gulf, towing his boat and his fishing equipment broke down in Valdosta GA. Same reason, transmission.. Where are you Scotty..? SCOTTY YOU SAY WHAT..?
Great vehicle. Its not a full size truck . But its reliable, powerful and economical compared to similar class trucks. Frontier, ranger, colorado, etc.

I have a 2011 ram. Bought it used in 2014. Still have it today and still works great. I think it all depends on how you take care of your truck.
It seems to me that nowadays, pick up trucks are the new “ricers”. The tweek the heck out of them. They lift them up five feet high and put giant wheels on them.

@@jacesgarage658 strain on the driveshaft, the driveshaft is engineered to operate at a specific angle. Suspension could have even more problems depending on who lifted it.
As long as it hasn't been taken to the extreme and it been built well, there shouldn't be anything wrong with a lifted or lowered truck.
A lowered truck is worse than a lifted truck. A lowered truck completely defeats the purpose of a pickup truck in general. Unless you live in a rich city like Dubai, go for it, but for the average city where roads are not always smooth. Have fun when you see potholes!
621k kms on a 09 Ridgleline before the motor locked up......the transmissions behind the Ridgelines are a Manual based with soloniods to change the gears. It's not a conventional ring/sun/Carrier assembly.

There's been healthy debate on how much "truck" is a Ridgeline, but it definitely does not belong on a "do not buy" list. From what I know:
1. It's a Honda
2. It drives like a car
3. You can reach into the bed without getting a hernia
4. it will fit a sheet of 8x4 (unlike the new Ranger which has a bed UNDER 4 feet wide)
5. Has surprisingly good off road handling capability
6. Has a much more car-like cabin than either Ford or Toyota
7. The under-floor storage doubles as a small trunk
In my mind it's more a family activity vehicle than it is a truck. Not great for gooseneck towing or transporting gravel, but it's just the vehicle for carrying home anything you can find at Home Depot or Ikea, which for a growing family WILL HAPPEN. The ability to carry bikes in the bed also makes it more useful. I have seen hitch-mounted bike racks snap in half with the car stopped dead in the #1 lane on a freeway. And you can laughably pick up four people from the airport with 8 huge suitcases too - try doing that with a Crown Vic or Prius.

Nothing except a 3/4 ton or better is designed for hauling gooseneck, so mentioning gooseneck trailers and a Honda Ridgeline is ridiculous as it is... The Ridgeline isn't even a half ton Ute pickup. The Ridgeline is like a passenger car with a midget bed and the ugly styling of the avalanche (well the old ones anyways, I actually kind of like the look of the new ones.). You say it can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed, but I don't see how that is considering how narrow of a vehicle it is. You can fit a 4x8 in the bed of my Ranger, it's just tilted because it doesn't quite fit between the wheel wells. I would imagine with the Ridgeline, it would be exactly the same, because the Ridgeline I believe is the same width as an S10 and a Ranger and a Colorado, is it not? If it is wider, that is surprising to me, but I can only imagine that the bed leaves almost half of the sheet hanging out even with the tailgate down.

I've owned an 06', 07' and a 12' Honda Ridgeline and ive never had any issues with any of them. There really isnt much on them to go wrong anyway.

I love most of your videos Scotty, but for the first time I will disagree with you on the Ridgeline I own a 2007 with 190k on it. Never had issues with it besides oil, gas, tires and brakes. You make great videos though.
Sure, your ONE vehicle disproves the statistics of what a mechanic of many years has seen, just like that ONE owner of every other make and model out there that has had no problems, proves that no cars or trucks ever have problems. That is why no mechanics exist.
Stinky Cheese funny thing it's there more than ONE comment about how reliable they are. The bottom line is people will buy what ever they want. I love my mini truck, my dad has a 2001 Silverado that's has been very reliable as well with over 300k. Main reason I got mine it's because it does what I need it for.

1993 F150 302 that 230,000 original miles everything’s original just did the transmission go to overdrive band was slipping but it was in pretty good shape considering the mileage

Our Ridgeline is a 2014 with 68 thousand miles and no issue thusfar. It's my wife's daily driver. She doesn't need a truck for utility purposes. I just want her to be in that in case she ever gets involved in an accident. We love it for long road trips. Quiet and comfortable. I will say that the navigation system is not intuitive and sort of a relic of a design.
Stick within the towing limits (5,000 pounds) and do maintenance. You can easily get 250k out of a Ridgeline. That V6 is bulletproof when taken care of. Transmissions don't have issues unless they're over worked (like going over the towing limits)
Greetings from a ridgeline owner with over 285k miles and running strong. It's always loaded down with all my gear.
Only thing I've had to do that wasn't general maintenance was replace the high pressure power steering line that dry rotted.
And it's plenty capable of hauling as long as you aren't trying to haul a bed full of bedrock or pallets of readymix.
Now Scotty, I’ve got to disagree. I’ve owned a couple Dodge Ram’s and they are great for a Mechanic to learn on. You can learn to replace all the steering gear, ball joints, etc. Then for electrical faults you can learn how to fix a variety items and if your inclined can even learn to desolder and replace relays on the circuit boards. And then you can learn to repair corroded electrical connectors. After all this great training you can charge others to fix their wonderful Dodge’s. How’s that for being positive. Rusted out in Michigan. LOL
Don't forget you can also learn how to change a transmission with a Dodge/Chrys

A few guys at work bought Tacoma's and after 3 years traded them in because they rust profusely were very flimsy and cheaply made, the frames rust horribly and the interior doesn't even have a power adjustable seat. They also seem to go through wheel bearings and front end components like candy and suffer oil leaks and engine issues. Surprise- they now drive either a F-150 or Silverado. There are even videos right here on TH-cam that talk about how unreliable the 2016-2019 Tacoma's are and even CR doesn't recommend them
My family has had a Ridgeline for well over a decade now, and while it certainly is debatable whether or not it's a "real truck," it's been a very reliable vehicle.
It's officially a mid size light truck. The only reason why it's a debate is because they're not popular like the other models. But they are definitely mid size trucks. Pound for pound, the Ridgeline since 2016 has had the best overall ratings according to some publications like Consumer Reports.

The advantage the Ridgeline has which I have started to learn a bit about light trucks is its uni body construction. It's a bit more expensive to make during production, but it strengthens the overall durability of the light truck. I think Ford and Dodge will make one of their special edition pick up trucks a uni body from time to time. The Ridgeline is extremely underrated because of assumptions - and because of course, it's a Honda made vehicle. But it's definitely a very strong and reliable pick up truck. It's just engineered a lot more different than your typical pick up truck. I think the blown engine thing is a bit isolated. I always believe most modern pickup truck performance depends on the owner. Many owners assume too many things from a mid size truck. Most modern ones worth their salt are good. The American light truck market no longer dominates as they normally used to.
Todd Sands Yeah the engine issues were a few isolated vehicles from the 2006 model year. Otherwise, the engines are honestly pretty bulletproof, probably the most robust J series engine and the strongest auto trans that Honda makes considering that they assumed that people might tow with it.
I have a 2006 Ridgeline that I purchased used at 198K about 2 years ago as a daily driver. It now has over 250k. Last year, I drove it from Georgia to South Dakota pulling a 3000 lb trailer with 3 other passengers. This is the most reliable, comfortable, and versatile vehicle I have ever owned. Maybe it was the previous owner who took care of it from the start, but from speaking to other RL owners they all have the same good things to say about this model. I would not hesitate to purchase another but my RL is going so strong now, I don't have the heart to trade her in.
Scotty love the videos usually but what you said about the Ridgeline is way off. My truck went 245000 hard miles before I finally blew the motor and that was my fault. I was lapsed on changing the timing belt by 145000 miles. I drove it regularly. It did haul some stuff when I needed it to. It drove like a car down class 5 dirt roads with snow and never got stuck. I'm over 500lbs and it is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. I've owned Grand Marquis, Tahoe s, Full size trucks too

I think the Ridgeline is not as utilitarian and maybe some people hurt the transmissions by hauling or towing too much weight. I have never heard anyone complain about them using as a sport utility, kind of like a Pilot with a small bed instead of the trunk.
I have a 2008 Ridgeline with 144 k miles on it. It's not for "heavy duty truck stuff", like some of the other trucks I've had, but it's good for hauling lots of "odds and ends", and things that just won't fit too well in a SUV or might get the carpet dirty. It's also a lot easier to park, but the mpg should be better. Over all, I like it.
Asked a guy with a Ridgeline 2006 400 thousand miles and said it was bullet proof. Kelly Blue Book and Edmund's give it a 4.7 out of five. What gives?

It's probably bullet proof if it never has any sort of load in the rear. Transmission and independent rear suspension are more suited for a car or SUV, not a truck.

As the original owner of a 2007 Ridgeline still going strong, this has been the absolute best vehicle I've owned bar none. Other than regular maintenance (tires, battery, fluids, timing belt, etc.) and replacing one worn engine mount in the past 12 years, NOTHING in this Ridgeline has failed. My only complaint is that gas mileage isn't great, and I've always averaged 16 mpg since day one (22 mpg freeway only driving).

The Ridge isnt a work truck in the truest sense, but its plenty of truck for 90% of people who own trucks in the way people actually use them.
The SSR was never meant to be used as a work truck, it was more like a factory custom hotrod. I personally think they are a neat idea in a world of cookie cutter crossover/ sport UTIlity borefests on wheels. And they are pretty solidly built.

Honda calls the Ridgeline a SUT “Sport Utility Truck”, it’s like a triple crossover features of a SUV, a Truck, and Car.
Just like Pilot it’s built on a car-like Unibody crossover platform. Only difference is the Ridgeline a bed like truck.
It’s also FWD based AWD.
So it’s basically not a full on Truck, but it’s own separate thing.
Hyundai is building a similar vehicle based on the Santa Fe.

honda ridgeline is pretty solid and reliable. A buddy of mine had one with more 200k miles with zero issues. just regular maintenance.
I work for Honda. Ridgelines are sought after by everyone. Bulletproof truck when regular maintenance is performed. One customer came in and said he loved his Ridgeline more than his F150 becuase it gave him zero problems compared to the F150.
Why so salty?? Do you see Ridgekines often on the road? If they were 1/2 as good as a real pickup truck such as silverados Rams or f-150s, you would see some on the road. Honda and Toyota people are easily triggered damn😂
I own both a ford and a ridgeline. I'd take the honda any day of the week. I may be able to put a few more pounds in the ford, but I know the ridgeline will get me where im going.

Honda Ridgeline is based on the pilot, which has the 3.5 v6 which is in the odyssey, and accord... They're usually quite reliable, so idk if I'd agree with that.
I bought my 07 Ridgeline over a year ago. I love it! No issues at all or complaints. It does everything well, like a Honda should.

In America trucks are purpose built for utility and it's when the ridgeline is encountered with this utility that it can't compete (farm work, Construction, Offroad with load, and general work abuse). True a lot of people who own trucks will never subject their vehicle to such rigors but they could if they wanted or had too. It's the definition of a truck in America that has brought such a stigma to the Ridgeline but yes as city hauling commuter it's good.

Had a 1988 Silverado V6 with a 5 speed manual. Best truck ever. Had 400,000 miles and didn't even leak oil or smoke. Ended up scrapping it even though it still ran and drove.
The old honda ridgelines weren't as great as the 2nd gen. But Honda listened to those complaints in the past and built a better truck. Truck enthusiasts would still say it isn't a truck, but it has a bed and it could haul medium sized things so it still passes. Hell, it's just as good as my dad's 2001 F150 XLT which is a V8 and the ridgeline has better fuel economy. It is also the safest pickup truck to date. I also love that it handles like a car so it can go swiftly through corners and has a tighter turning radius. It also has the best gas powered fuel economy of the mid-size pickup range. Honda's goal with the Ridgeline was to create a truck that was completely practical with all levels of truck use and although it suffers in the looks department, it's not really about the aesthetics, but the function.

Love my 2019 Ridgeline. Drives great decent fuel mileage comfortable on long trips trunk is handy and while I missed the volume knob the steering wheel control is perfect.
Scotty, I hope your wrong about the Honda Ridgeline. I have a 2014. I like it because you can't haul alot with it. No one asks me to help them move. Nobody is asking me to move their tractor anymore. No one is calling me to pull their truck out of the mud. I can put a lawnmower in it. I can put gas cans in the back and take trash to the dump. I work in the city and parking a big truck is a pain. I had a 2500 Silverado before this truck. My Ridgeline is my city truck. I can. park it like a car.

Scotty, Just to make sure- your specifically talking about the Ram Daytona model and not the other 1500 series? I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and have had almost no issues with it so far..granted I do not do hard work with it. I use it for weekend trips to the Lowes and otherwise just highway mileage to and from my job. I also have a 2013 Dodge Dart that I use for 3-4 times a week for work to help save on MPG and keep the miles down on my truck..no issues with it either and both have around 42k on them.
I have the same model. 8 foot bed. I bought a truck to have something that lasts for a long time
I don’t know scottty those Ridglines on the used market plenty high mileage ones out there and the resale value and asking prices are cray cray.

I completely agree. I had a 2005 Colorado Z71. I did all of the regular maintenance required. Blew the trans at 38,000 miles - to be fair, my buddy was driving it towing a 14ft enclosed trailer, but well below the trucks rated towing capacity, it did not have a trans cooler and it over heated the transmission and blew the forward clutch piston seal and cooked the clutches for 1stmaking it almost impossible to start moving from a stop. $2,800 (warranty) and 1 month later I had it back with a GM re-man transmission. I liked the appearance of the truck, and I did really like the sound the 5cylinder engine made, especially with a good intake on it - sounded somewhat like a viper's v-10 and when new it had ok power. As it aged I had a misfire that I could not trace down, come to find out the 3.5's had bad valve seats. Some got fixed under warranty, some didn't. I will say, the truck itself was pretty tough, but when parts started to fail it just cascaded really quick and became an endless money pit. I went through 5 sets of front wheel bearings in two and a half years, nobody could figure out why. It had 206,000 miles on it when I traded it for a Nissan Frontier a year ago. I owned it for 6 years, bought with 35,000 miles on it when I traded it I had replaced: 1 transmission, 5 SETS of front hubs, thermostat because it failed and ran too cold, the accessory belt tensioner because it failed and ate into the timing cover, the power steering return hose got a hole worn through from vibration where it mounts to the crossmember and destroyed the power steering pump (the pump was still working when I sold it, but it was on its way out), the water pump suddenly grenaded on me at work one day without any warning - that was a fun repair in freezing temperatures right before Christmas, the wiring harness for the ac blower burned out and I had to replace that, the power steering rack and tie rod ends were shot at 140,000 miles... Oh, and you better hope you never need to change the timing chain on it because you have to take the engine out to do it, may as well just swap the enigne instead... Like I said, MONEY PIT. STAY AWAY...
Yeah and I see the new ones are having some reliability problems as well. Transmission problems and fit and finish issues

We have a 2007 Ridgeline that we purchased used in 2009. It now has a 185,000 miles on it after driving long distances and off road for work. Truck was able to pass areas that co-workers weren’t able to with their Toyota trucks. The ride is far more comfortable as well. We’ve had a major service on it and kept up with maintenance. The power steering does have a crack in it now. We keep debating whether to fix it or just keep using the leak stop. 🤷♀️ Really, we are just in awe of how well this truck is still doing and all that it has been through.... no light duty here. I could go on about all the other aspects I love about it...

I drove through the lot of a Honda dealer once and was surprised they didn't have a Ridgeline as their snow plow. They had a Super Duty.
