I hate to be beating a dead horse here, but the subtitles are literally spoiling the joke and undercutting the impeccable writing of the DBZA crew. You paused on more than two occasions reading them and seeing the joke before the punchline even comes on screen. And yeah they're kind of cringe.
I recommend watching with Canadian subs after watching the entire abridged series first. They tend to add a lot of extra fluff. Sometimes really unnecessary and unfunny (especially in the Cell Games) dialogue.

SomethingWittyEntertainment's SAO Abridged, ProjectMouthwash's Bleach S Abridged, Schmuck Squad's Goblin Slayer Abridged. All of them reach a similar level in quality. I will say though, TFS is definitely the only one to do it as quickly as they did. Aside from episode 60’s year of development, everything else they did always came out way quicker than anything else of similar quality.
Easily? YGOTAS while starting off rough but with a couple of exceptionally funny characters for the first arc (reminds you of another Abridged series, hm? Tristan & Pegasus vs Popo and Nappa when?) really takes off for the Battle City arc, makes the best meta jokes ever for the Noah filler arc, and the Waking The Dragon arc is pretty much GOATED. AND Sword Art Online Abridged, as far as I'm concerned, takes a sub-par Anime and turns it into a genuinely awesome show beyond the fun jokes. THAT is impressive. ..then there's Hellsing Ultimate Abridged which, while short, is pretty much GOATED from start to finish.
There’s one thing I don’t get about the reaction: I don’t mind if he’s rewinding to catch lines that he missed or to read the subtitles. And I don’t mind if he feels he needs to cut pieces of the video for whatever reason. But my question is, why is he doing both? I mean he backtracked a couple of times to read the captions and then he cuts out one of the Best scenes to show how crazy and evil Freeza is: The explaining that he has a hobby of keeping track of how many times he certain certain lines.

Ok. So about the Goku part. He asked Bulma's father to build another spaceship using the reference with the one he came to Earth. He also asked him to install the gravity machine so he could train on his way to Namek. The capachino machine thing is actually a thing in the show. Goku heard from Bulma about Freeza and obviously wanted to rush to Namek. But Dr. Brief wouldn't let him use it saying it wasn't finished. Also Goku accidentally goes towards a star hotter than the sun. That's the thing they talk about in that computer call. He used the kamehameha wave to push himself and the ship away from that hot star.

That's because the Canadian subtitles aren't actually written by TeamFourStar, they were fan-made and they liked them enough to put them on their videos. KaiserNeko explained it in a video yeaaaaaaars ago so I understand the confusion lol

I'm not trying to hate, all I wanna say is that the subtitles are good for a repeat watch of the abridged series, but on a first time, the spoil the jokes before they happen and it takes away from the time and effort tfs put into making them. Ultimately it's your decision, and whatever you do I'll probably still watch, but hopefully you realize the fact that it's taking away from the experience somewhat.
you missed the Canadian subtitles affectionally calling it "stealth mode" at the beginning. Also you can use the < > keys to go frame by frame to help later flares

Lots of others have said it before, but it's generally a better experience not to have the subtitles on and focus on the actual content, mainly because they spoil future jokes and are generally unfunny additions. Ofc, it's up to you how you want to experience something, and I'd rather not backseat your viewing experience. Glad you're enjoying the show!
The first Solar Flare in the series had Vegeta comparing its effect on his eyes to walking in on Freeza in the shower. The first Solar Flare easter egg image was Freeza in the shower.
That's something I remember focusing on way back when I saw these episodes for only the second time. Having learned that Dodoria was a woman, I remember paying very close attention to listen for how they referenced her prior to the reveal.
On a somewhat related note, may I suggest you look into TFS' gaming videos under "Krillin Plays", "Two Saiyans Play" and "Renegade for Life", it's basically gaming while staying in character, fun stuff.

Outside of just cutting things out and erasing blood, no one was allowed to die, they were "sent to another dimension" or their corpses were breathing heavily. 17:19 It's kinda the whole "Saiyans get stronger if they barely don't die", but it's really just Toriyama writing. Vegeta also claimed his tail would grow back, but never did. Goku's did like twice when he was a kid, so guess Vegeta used up his limit.

The gravity controls were a request from Goku that was accepted by Dr Brief and the one thing Dr Brief didn't finish in the original anime was installing a Stereo channel and Goku insisted for Dr Brief to forget about this stereo channel and let him go quickly to help his friends and he just accepted.
Completely random but fun fact: in the original manga, Freeza himself actually kills Cargo (Dende's brother). They changed it to Dodoria for whatever reason in the anime.

In certain languages of the dub including Greek and Hungarian, Dodoria is a woman. In the Hungarian dub, she has a deep voice and in the Portuguese dub, she sings opera...little fun fact for you. Also Little Green is a reference to an old dub of DBZ where they called Piccolo Big Green so in this parody, they're calling Dende Little Green as a reference to that.

one of my fave things to do is find out which DBZ VA's outside funimation find DBZA funny, so far I've heard Scott McNeil, Ellen Kennedy, Brad Swaile, Peter Kelamis and even the late great Kirby Morrow have reportedly found it funny, with Scott McNeil and Brad Swaile laughing at Nappa's line of "That Means he doesn't have a penis, right Vegeta..." and Scott doing the Yoshi and Dodge quotes for fans (I think in one panel interview he spoke highly of TFS calling them simply "hysterical"), Peter Kelamis following MasakoX on Twitter and I think he helped Maskao with comedy timing, Ellen Kennedy finding Princess Snake funny when a fan reported they showed it to her, and Kirby Morrow did the "Super Saiyan" speech for a fan at a convention... there may be some at Funi who don't think much of TFS but I think Canada have taken a shine to them... probably because it's a satire of what they did, and who doesn't like satire?

TFS really took off after the Namek Saga, easily the greatest abridged series of all time, glad ur enjoying it 🐉
I wouldn't say greatest personally, but it's definitely top 5. And one of the others in that top 5 is Hellsing Abridged by the same people.

To be honest, the subtitles are kinda taking the fun out of the reactions.
It’s so fun watching this series again, doing it with fresh faces and with the permission of the OG crew is just icing on the cake.

the problem with the Canadian subtitles for me is that they are bad jokes at their own bad jokes. i can never read them without thinking if you thought it was so bad that you need to poke fun at it then why did you write it in the first place. if it made fun of the original dialog it would be hilarious
That's because the Canadian subtitles aren't actually written by TeamFourStar, they were fan-made and they liked them enough to put them on their videos. KaiserNeko explained it in a video yeaaaaaaars ago so I understand the confusion lol
Jack, I say this for your own good. I'm not trying to hate, all I wanna say is that the subtitles are good for a repeat watch of the abridged series, but on a first time, the spoil the jokes before they happen and it takes away from the time and effort tfs put into making them. Ultimately it's your decision, and whatever you do I'll probably still watch, but hopefully you realize the fact that it's taking away from the experience somewhat.
you missed the Canadian subtitles affectionally calling it "stealth mode" at the beginning. Also you can use the < > keys to go frame by frame to help later flares

Lots of others have said it before, but it's generally a better experience not to have the subtitles on and focus on the actual content, mainly because they spoil future jokes and are generally unfunny additions. Ofc, it's up to you how you want to experience something, and I'd rather not backseat your viewing experience. Glad you're enjoying the show!

That's something I remember focusing on way back when I saw these episodes for only the second time. Having learned that Dodoria was a woman, I remember paying very close attention to listen for how they referenced her prior to the reveal.

If you're not going to watch without Canadian subs, I'm not going to watch your content, specifically your DBZA reactions. There's no point in doing it if you're willingly and knowingly missing most of the jokes and pacing because you prefer optional fluff over base content.

Hi Jack, you're probably not going to read this comment but I just started binging your DBZA reacts but since no one else pointed it out in the comments I guess I'll go ahead and give the context on the Dodoria being a woman joke. In certain languages of the dub including Greek and Hungarian, Dodoria is a woman. In the Hungarian dub, she has a deep voice and in the Portuguese dub, she sings opera...little fun fact for you.
Also Little Green is a reference to an old dub of DBZ where they called Piccolo Big Green so in this parody, they're calling Dende Little Green as a reference to that.
Freeza's soldiers mostly consist of strong warriors from conquered planets if I'm not mistaken

one of my fave things to do is find out which DBZ VA's outside funimation find DBZA funny, so far I've heard Scott McNeil, Ellen Kennedy, Brad Swaile, Peter Kelamis and even the late great Kirby Morrow have reportedly found it funny, with Scott McNeil and Brad Swaile laughing at Nappa's line of "That Means he doesn't have a penis, right Vegeta..." and Scott doing the Yoshi and Dodge quotes for fans (I think in one panel interview he spoke highly of TFS calling them simply "hysterical"), Peter Kelamis following MasakoX on Twitter and I think he helped Maskao with comedy timing, Ellen Kennedy finding Princess Snake funny when a fan reported they showed it to her, and Kirby Morrow did the "Super Saiyan" speech for a fan at a convention... there may be some at Funi who don't think much of TFS but I think Canada have taken a shine to them... probably because it's a satire of what they did, and who doesn't like satire?
