At her peak there were so many flawless things happening simultaneously with her voice you couldn't hear and fully appreciate it all at the same time because it was simply too much to take in. With her vocals declining, her absolute mastery of vocal technique is on full display. Her corrections are so quick, that strong vibrato, those angelic runs. People talk bad about Mariah for using tracks here and there, but if it helps her keep her voice healthy and preserved longer-- I'm actually glad. I don't want to see her go through some of things Whitney endured. But one thing you can say about Whitney, even when she wasn't at her best-- you got 100% of what she had to give you. I hope we've all learned to treat the people we love as entertainers better. We have a tendency to put them on a pedestal-- but it leaves them with impossible expectations in our eyes and theirs too. They're just human beings like the rest of us. Whitney was definitely very special. ❤
