I’ve never stopped listening to her since then. I’ve listened to every single record and live performance of hers that is known to TH-cam and wherever. I hate to break this to you but she started losing her vocal range and power in the mid-late 90s due to a severe crack cocaine habit that withered her body and eventually caused the heart attack that killed her in the bath. She isn't "holding back" here, she's doing her best to work around the fact she can't hit the big notes and sustains that she used to. The difference is obvious when you watch her performances from the late 80s/early 90s. It got worse and worse through the 2000s with her appearing clearly intoxicated, fatigued and confused on stage.

Don't think she had Amy Winehouse's timing though. Wnitneys's head voice is equally as astonishing as Amy's timing though I know no one else who compares them as singers (female)

Whitney didn't just sing songs to a tune, she lived and breathed the music. You can see she's feeling it inside, it's flowing through her and she becomes one with it and makes it her own when she sings. Unquestionable talent x

@@mcblaloc It was a wonderful rendition. Sure, there were a couple of minor key issues, & as much as she wanted to, she didn't go for the extended high notes towards - but not AT, the end. But, she knew that, and handled it as a professional with that gifted voice would. The original recording that captivated us, was perfection personified, & was probably never captured again, but that's ok: It's in our heads & captured on record forever.

When I listen to Whitney Houston, and especially this song (yes, I know Dolly sang it first, and beautifully as well), I often cry. Her voice was just so beautiful, and full of emotion.
i cry every time i hear this song. it is an incredibly moving, emotional and powerful song. it hits you deeply. imagine being whitney, having to sing it live, over and over. never lacking the emotion it means to convey. she gave so much of her heart. knowing she had to be hurting inside, every time she sang this song. people like whitney are one in a billion, beautiful heart gave her a beautiful voice, a voice from deep down in her soul. bless her soul
