Hi I’m so happy for you I found your videos when I was looking to become a foster parent and now here I am. I have had my baby boy since he was 5 months old he’s now 14 months old and extended family is coming forward wanting to get placement because of the circumstances in his case and the fact that he is so bonded to us at this point I don’t believe it would be good or safe for him to be placed with bio family and reunification is already not an option. So I am scared and i wanted to see if you could share a bit more about what happened with bio family that wanted to get placement? Thank you and congratulations to you and your baby
Hi there! In my county, reunification with bio family or Non Related Extended Family Members (fictive kin) is prioritized. As long as TPR hasn’t happened, any one in those two categories can step forward.
In our case, family did step forward and completed some of the process, but weren’t in a place to officially take him. As a foster parent, you kind of just have to roll with it-since they’re prioritized, you don’t really get a day until they’re considered as potential placement.
For my part, I really got to know all bio family that were involved so I could form a bond with them and still see him if he was placed with them. Bio family then came to realize that I was loving/caring/attached and that I wouldn’t keep them from his after adoption.
Thank you Angela, my foster son did end up going to his bio family and we are hurting but happy that he is loved by so many. Thanks again for your response 💕
