Yeah, Geoff is often referred to as the" gateway drug" to Voice Play with his insanely low range. But as others as noted, he goes extremely high as well. Nice to see someone appreciate Layne's exceptional beatboxing, the only thing that's sad about him taking that as his primary role in the group is that we are only very rarely treated to his wonderful rich and warm baritone voice. As you noted, they have incredible voices, and each one of them deserves to be a lead, but how they can then go back and immerse themselves in the harmonies and blend together so seamlessly is fantastic. I've honestly seen some reactors hate the fact that they trade the lead role back and forth, but I love hearing their voices individually as well as when they harmonize. I never had the slightest interest in joining anyone's Patreon, but when I discovered these guys 3 years ago, I immediately signed up for not only the group, but for Geoff's channel and Layne's channel in partnership with another former group member, called Patty Cake Productions. As others have noted, they aren't signed by any label, they produce their own work, most of the time they do all the arranging as well (this song was a Geoff arrangement). They have covered a lot of genres throughout their career, and they can go from these mind-blowing serious arrangements, to ones where they're still singing superbly, but throwing in a lot of comic elements as well, you really do get a full performance from these guys every single time.
Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, doesn't scare the shit out of you, in fact, he is very enjoyable to listen to in isolation. He has done some incredible solo work, and I can't recommend enough that you listen and react to him. Maybe start with his version of "I See Fire" from The Hobbit, or "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold" from The Lord of the Rings.
@@Pascal-the-Rascal I have a playlist for bedtime I called that lullaby. It’s mostly Geoff and some of his quieter songs: Till Then, Trust in Me, Misty Mountains, Shenandoah. There’s just something very soothing about listening to that rumbly voice.
@@janetdw Yes, it's soothing, it's like listening to a cat purring, and, when I am not listening to Geoff, I have two real purring machines to help me calm my nerves. And he is also funny, and very creative when it comes to costumes and such, and I think his wife helps him. Another quieter song I really like is his cover of Blackbird by The Beatles. I usually listen to hard rock and metal mostly, but I love Geoff, and VoicePlay. They always get me in a somewhat good mood. Especially their Disney stuff, Geoff's cover of Bear Necessities is very wholesome.
Welcome to the rabbithole! This video got these guys invited to sing in concert with the band Chicago last year. They've got a whole channel stuffed with amazing music from every genre you can think of that's well worth checking out. Funny you should say that Geoff (the subterranean bass) would be scary singing by himself: he does have his own channel where he sings _all_ the parts and layers them into one, and it's just phenomenal. Liked and subscribed, I'd love to see you check out more VoicePlay!
Welcome to the VoicePlay (and hopefully solo Geoff Castellucci) rabbit hole! You really can't go wrong with anything they've done, and i usually recommend scrolling through their catalog and finding songs that stand out to you to react to next!
It's so much fun watching people who found Voiceplay and listen for the first time. The reactions are pretty the same 😂. Welcome to a fantastic rabbithole and enjoy the ride.
Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. I hope you'll check out more of their work. Maybe start with In the Air Tonight, Warriors or Dream On. If you like Sea Shanty style they have covers of Drunken Sailor and Hoist the Colors. Voiceplay is able to cover a wide range of music styles since they are independent. Enjoy!
you know i really enjoy this video. it always warms my heart when I see a person enjoying what they hear or experience. So many times you imagine that you have already seen and heard everything, and I also saw your reaction when the video started. you were prepared to hear a mediocre cover with a hyms, but instead you got a mind-blowing performance. At Voiceplay, everyone is an extremely good music professional. Hats off and points to everyone, you don't often come across a better cover than this. Thanks to you too, you cheered up my rainy morning. I wish you all the best and greetings from Finland ps. You get new subcible 😉
Two things happen when a new reactorl discovers the awesomeness of Voice Play. We all laugh/applaud/smile/knowingly nod at your amazement and then hit subscribe so we can watch you experience what we have been loving for years!
Hahahaha! You evil people, preying upon us innocent reactor/TH-cam wallies, knowing full well Geoff is gonna make our bowels drop. Cruel. But I love it! 😬
@@melvinthinks Just remember you were divinely directed to this particular rabbit hole by the dragon gods and you will be blessed by their loving musical embrace!😁🐉🤗
Thank you for doing one of my favorite things ever: reacting to VoicePlay! Loved your comments throughout. You're correct, they all have lovely solo voices, the drums are amazing, and 770K subscribers are able to tolerate the bass Geoff Castellucci singing on his solo channel, supported by doppelgängers of himself in various registers. Thanks for giving them a listen! Peace
So funny to hear "it would be weird listening to the guy on the left in isolation" - you HAVE to listen to some Geoff Castellucci now!! Of course, more voiceplay as well
Dear British Neighbor, welcome to VoicePlay. Those guys are independent, no label etc. They do almost everything themselfs. Lighting, backgrounds, etc. The bass, Geoff Castellucci, is on the left sight, then Mr. J.None, baritone and Navy choir singer, First tenor Mr. Elli Jackobson, second tenor and also a good guy, Mr. Cesar de la Rosa, and finally, baritone and Rithmic section of VoicePlay, Mr. Layne Stein. You sir enjoy life and just have a think🤣. Elmar from Germany
Welcome to Voiceplay and subsequently Geoff Castellucci who has his own solo channel. You are in for a treat if you d ecide to jump down this rabbit hole 😅. I have subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff. ❤ 🇬🇧
Welcome to the amazing Voice Play! You might enjoy their version of Creep. Or Black Hole Sun. Or Dream On from Aerosmith. Or any of their video game songs from Halo or Sky Rim - The Dragonborne Comes. And their viking/pirate songs - Valhalla and Hoist The Colors! 💖
VoicePlay did this for their January offering in 2023. Geoff (bass with a 5 octave range from A0- last key on the piano to Bb5) and Layne are the 2 remaining original members from high school days and earlier. They started the group in 1997 and a lot of their other members have gone on to Broadway, acting careers, and more. Recently they had their high tenor leave for personal reasons and J None, the fellow beside Geoff was a member before he was recruited into the US Navy for his vocal skills. J comes back as often as he can and sings with them. So being short one regular member, they bring on one of the amazing people they've had as friends in the last 15 yrs or less to add to their newest video. All the VoicePlay people have worked in Orlando theme parks from Disney, to Universal and more so they got a good feel for what audiences want to see and hear and are known as the Theatre Kids. Eli (the middle guy) is the Rock God - before joining VoicePlay in 2010 he was in a few rock bands. Cesar is the newest member after J None went to the US Navy. He's a strong baritone and tenor so he can fill in either position. As you've noticed Layne is an incredible beatboxer, also a baritone and a violinist aka VioLayne. He's only brought that violin out 3 times over the years because it is an acapella group. We love it when he does - see the first of their post-apocalyptic trilogy, Warrior (Imagine Dragons) to see Layne and J None both do violin work, then Dream On (Aerosmith) is the second in the trilogy, finishing up with Seven Nation Army (White Stripes). Others that are stunning - In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Queen in 5 Minutes, Little Mermaid and so very many more.
Oh, oh! I think you need to listen to their medley Queen in 5 minutes, for a completely different view of what they can do! You may also enjoy Creep, In the Air Tonight, and Dream On. But if you want to just laugh - listen to their take on Drunken Sailor.
One of my favorite things...watching people discover VoicePlay and also Geoff's solo work. Do more reactions to them and their fans will be here for you. Geoff and Layne (and now Eli) take turns overseeing their projects and doing their arrangements. This one is Geoff's. Liked and subscribed. This video is only the 2nd time that "VioLayne" has pulled out his violin in one of their productions. (Layne's done it a 3rd time since, but it's very rare.)
One of my favourite things = people watching and enjoying my videos with me ☺️ Thank you for watching and the comment. It really helps 👍 And the sub!!! 😘 and the like!!! You spoiled me 🤗
Subscribed! I love, love, love it when people discover VoicePlay for the first time. Would really dig seeing more; may I recommend their covers of either Dream On, Creep, or Seven Nation Army? Superb work.
Welcome to the astonishing delights of Voiceplay! There are very few things in life i love more than watching someone watch Voiceplay for the first time. If you loved this one, try Aerosmith. Yes, Voiceplay did "Dream On", which is, what was your word? Spectacular. BTW did anyone ever tell you that you look like Pippin? Peace!
The other Metallica cover done by VoicePlay is Whiskey In The Jar, with another guest artist, Omar Cardona. Any artist VoicePlay invites can be trusted to have a outstanding voice.
Layne's snare is legendary at this point. Also, when he pulls out the violin we call him VioLayne, lol. Welcome to VoicePlay!! I had a great time watching you discover these amazing people! ❤
Loveplay?? You were just watching LOVEBITES, weren't you? lol Welcome to VoicePlay, one of the big 3 acapella groups, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. The theater kids of acapella. From l-r: Geoff Castelucci bass. J. None a former member , and current member of the US Navy. He guests when on leave. Eli Jacobsen tenor Cesar De La Rosa tenor/baritone newest member Layne Stein beatboxer , and here known as Vio-Layne, but instruments are rare in their vids. Geoff and Layne take turns with the arrangement. Goeff's wife Kathy is the production manager. They work with Patty Cake Studios, co owned by Layne and former member Tony Wakim. Another former member you will see in other videos is Earl Elkins Jr. Yes, they are awesome. No instruments , and you don't miss them. Please do check out more, they have a rather large catalogue of covers. Try their covers of Aerosmith's "Dream On" and "Oogie Boogie Song" (from A Nightmare Before Christmas) to start. Goeff also has solo covers on his channel, try "16 Tons" and "Monster Mash". Wait til you see Geoff's range, lol.
@@melvinthinks LOL Lot of time during lockdown to dive into yt and find new music. To answer your question, I'll take a pass on the majority of rap and country.
Fair play to you 👍 I suppose this is the only time being a rector can be at a detriment. Because any time I want to listen to something new I almost feel inclined to hold back so I can make a video, as opposed to diving head first, or just going on a music video or Spotify binge. Swings and roundabouts, I guess. Don't blame you on country. Rap? I actually rewatched "Straight Outta Compton" the other day. NWA debut LP and The Chronic are classics. I'm not too keen on modern rap, but old school 80's and early 90s stuff I love. Public Enemy, House Of Pain, Run DMC, Beastie Boys etc. And then RATM come on the scene and merge all of those bands and rock. I also like Ren as a rapper/rhymer/lyricist/poet/whatever you wanna call.him. He's great.
Voiceplay has the widest genre range - which is why Metallica, Aerosmith, Phil Collins, Prince etc. can be found on their impressive list of covers. They do everything themselves - from arrangement through to video. This specific arrangement was by the bass, Geoff Castelucci. Layne Stein (the beatboxer) do the other lion share of arrangements. The bold tenor and our rock god (he used to sing in rock bands) - also arranges a lot more recently (Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden or Creep by Radiohead). They are insanely talented and wonderful humans to boot - and it's our privilege to support them in their endeavours! Hope you will have the inclination and time to do more VP! Thank you for the reaction - this is a bus you want to get on 😉. 🌹🕊
@@melvinthinks 😄 - did they not also tell you that you have similar drumming and vocal skills? How rude! PS: seriously though... personally I see no resemblance! 🌹🕊
I wish that were true. But there is some weird picture from the 1970s and I thought he might be my real Dad. My Mum has since confirmed she has never had sex with Phil Collins.
Welcome to Voiceplay! Funny you say it'd be scary to hear Geoff Castellucci ("the dude on the left") in isolation, because he does actually have a solo channel where he posts his own incredible covers! Love your commentary and look forward to hopefully seeing more Voiceplay on your channel in future!
Nothing Else Matters is the Voiceplay gateway drug. It was my first experience with Voiceplay and the majority of reactors I’ve watched as well. They have since become my favorite band, and I would love to share their extensive library with you
Loved your reaction. Voiceplay is just the best! They can do anything, rock, pop, comedy, classical, balads, love songs..... anyway, they are great and very versatile. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff.
Great time to jump into this rabbit hole. They are really good in most performances but being probably the most theatrical of top US acapella groups - they totally own the Halloween which is coming really soon. Both group in total and Geoff on his own channel.
You’ve been given some really good suggestions on what to listen to next. Pick a genre that appeals to you and give it a try. Because of your shirt I’m going to recommend Tennessee Whiskey. The harmonies are absolutely gorgeous. A little bit of a warning: VoicePlay has been performing professionally since 1997 and they’ve had a few changes in personnel from time to time, almost all in the baritone slot. You will always see the two gentlemen at the ends and the one in the middle. They are Geoff Castellucci, bass, and on the far right is Layne Stein who was originally the baritone and switched over to beatboxing. They met in middle school and they have been singing together ever since. In the center is Eli Jacobsen, our rock tenor who joined in 2010, around the same time that Layne switched to beatboxing. The second position is J None who was the featured artist. He was a member of the group from about 2017 till 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing for them. He still returns often to join the guys. His slot was filled by Cesar de la Rosa who is the fourth person in the lineup. In this we didn’t get to hear a lot from Cesar, but he has a beautiful baritone tenor. They are currently one position short and fill that slot with a variety of guest artists many of whom return. My newest favorite is their cover of Michael Jackson’s The Way You Make Me Feel with DeeJay Young who has an absolutely lyrical voice. If you watch Tennessee Whiskey you will see J when he was still a member of the group and another original member, Earl Elkins Jr who was with them from 1997 until 2020. He is featured in one of my favorite medleys Queen in 5 Minutes. Geoff also has a solo channel that he started when Covid prevented them from touring and they switched over to mostly video productions. He is used to arranging for four and five part harmonies and most of his songs will follow that formula. Most of the time he will also film a clone of himself to cover that line. He’s really very good at interacting with his clones and sometimes it’s hard to remember that these are all one person. In some of the videos he is costumed and made up and has fooled many reactors who think it is four different people. It isn’t. He performs alone, but he does use musical accompaniment which he also provides via keyboard and plug-ins. On his videos it’s almost always just he and his wife doing the work with occasional help if they need make up or a steady cam. Subscribing in hopes that you will cover more of them and also check in on Geoff. On his TikTok channel he often will record straight into an iPhone so you can see that yes, he really does sound like that all the time.
This is great - thanks! I'll naturally gravitate towards hard rock and metal covers, but I am quite eclectic and open minded. Excited to hear some more. Lots of great music out there so please be patient 🙏
You should check out Whiskey in the Jar after this one. The arrangement changes it into a completely different song. No one has ever performed it like this.
Wecome to the rabbit whole of VoicePlay. Check out their cover of Aerosmiths Dream On. You can't find any song that they haven't made better. They never disappoint us. The bass Geoff Castellucci has a solo channel where he does low bass covers. Give his cover of Sixteen Tons a listen. Fans will happily subscribe for more VoicePlay.
Welcome to the world of VoicePlay. The dragon slayer himself Mr. Geoff Castellucci, VioLayne himself, Rock god Eli, the suave sounds of Ceasar de la Rosa and the one and only J None. Buckle up and Enjoy the Ride! Check out their version of the HALO theme but make sure you watch till the end! And definitely check out their Halloween selections too! Can't go wrong with VoicePlay
Yes, they're all capable of being solo artists. (Geoff has a "solo" channel where he sings his own backup parts; Cesar was a solo artist before he came to VoicePlay; J-None has done solo stuff as well; Layne really hasn't unless you count low-key family stuff, but he's absolutely capable of it; and Eli has maybe the best lead/solo voice of all of them.) They're also very capable voice actors (especially Eli). Every single musician they've ever collaborated with or featured, is also amazingly talented, which suggests to me that *somebody* in the group has missed their true calling and really should have been a (music) talent scout, professionally. But I wouldn't trade away the stuff they've done together, for any of that.
Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay! Their channel is a treasure trove of musical goodness, and I also highly recommended checking out Geoff Castellucci's (the impressive bass singer) solo channel.
Congratulations! I've watched dozens of reactors in their first hearing of VoicePlay. They always get what I call "Geoff shock," as you did. You are, I think, the first I've seen who got past the shock fairly early on, enough so that you could acknowledge Layne's beatboxing and, later, the voices of the three other singers. You're also the only one who didn't react with shock and amazement when the violin appeared.
Your "warm and soothing" at the beginning of the video is the best way to describe Geoff's voice ❤ Love watching reactors seeing VP for the first time 😂 Geoff has a solo channel and he layers himself in different octaves, Geoff's just a "beast" (but in the nicest way 😅🤩). They are all so f*cking talented... not me being very jealous of their voices 🙈 Suscribed and hoping for more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci to come 🫶🏻😮 I think you would love their "Dream on" cover 👍🏻
I don't believe you!!! 😁 The Radiohead version is timeless. Not saying the VP isn't good. But you gotta give some love to the original. Or both. Not that I'm pressuring you. But I am. YOU MUST LISTEN TO RADIOHEAD!!! Only joking. But I'm not. You'll never know.
Oh I've heard the original many many times. But wait until you hear VP's version. You will appreciate it on its own. It's like two different songs but also the same. They pay homage to the original while making it their own. It is one of the best remakes they have done. They also did Seven Nation Army which is phenomenal. You have really started down the rabbit hole with them.
Anything VoicePlay does is good. Even great. :) Trust me. Geoff, the guy on the left, has his own channel of low bass covers. Thpugh he has a range of five octaves. Equally stunning. And yes they are all are or have been solo artists.
Geoff Castalucci, the bass, has his own channel and does amazing work. You should really check him out. It’s not scary at all (except for the fact that it’s a bit scary hat a human can have 4+ octaves of range). So much fun watching people see VoicePlay for the first time. I loved it
Welcome to the VoicePlay Rabbit Hole friend! This is a great starter video. I'm subscribing to watch you discover more of them! I have put together some tips on VoicePlay listening, so if you'd like to see them, and a bit of info on the group, let me know in writing and I'll post it on here. I only do it with permission though. Only one reactor has ever not appreciated it, but that was enough for me to make sure it's okay before I post it. You're going to have SO MUCH FUN! Oh, and also, the bass, Geoff Castellucci has his own channel of deep bass covers and some readings as well, like "The Raven." His voice makes it extra spooky! 💙
Thanks very much! 🙏 I definitely had fun watching this and it was a little bit different from my regular reactions. But still had connections to metal and rock 🤟
@melvinthinks Glad you enjoyed it. I strongly recommend checking out Geoff Castellucci's channel. On your own, if not for reactions. His range will astound you. "I See Fire" is a great one, or "Unshaken." Important to remember, all male singing voices you hear are him, and if you want to hear him at his lowest, check out Voiceplay's "Valhalla Calling." You'd probably enjoy their version of "Dream On" with guest singer Omar Cardona, too. Let me know if you ever want to know more about the group.
Well, I might try a bit of both. A blind video reaction and a cheeky Melvin personal treat. That sounds so wrong. But you know what I mean. Hopefully. I don't want to be reported to Google.
@@melvinthinks Oh, I will mention, while they have varying and incredible guest singers, both male and female, VoicePlay currently has four core members. There's Geoff, the bass, who is, us Voiceplayas have decided, is definitely an alien. Next to him is J. None, he's a member on leave in reverse, off singing for the US Naval Choir. He often comes back and sings with the group, as a "guest." He's not technically a core member, except in spirit and heart. Then we have Eli (pronounced "Ell-lee," NOT "Ee-lie), tenor and Rock God, with the enviable beard. Next to him is the man with the Sass, Cesar. He's the newest member. Finally we have Layne, the beatboxer. He is also known as VioLayne, though he doesn't break that violin out very often. He sings too, and has a lovely light, sweet voice. And man, HE is the human synthesizer! You won't believe the sounds he can make. You may have came for the Rock song, but I predict you'll stay for the talent! Oh, and how often do you get told you look like George Carlin? 🙂
Welcome to VP Geoffthe bass has a 5 octave range all are phenomenal singers check out Valhala calling me and so many others Huge rabbit hole also they did dream on by Aerosmith welcome again 😊
Please explore more VoicePlay!😊 This group is fantastic. They are very talented and surprising. I have subscribed in hopes that you will continue down The RabbitHole of VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci. Might I recommend a beautiful song he did for his beautiful wife? The song is Shenandoah and it is so sweet and tender. That will give you a chance to hear more of Geoff's vocal range.😊
@@melvinthinks Well, it's actually not a rabbit hole, but a huge black hole, and before you realize it, you're way past the event horizon. With no escape possible, our only comfort is, that the music is fantastic in here - and the VP black hole seems to have connected up with the Geoff black hole. So welcome, sir Melvin. And thanks for your funny reactions😊
Yes, welcome to the rabbit hole. BTW VioLayne is also the carrot lord. Enjoy. I showed my boys your reaction and they said they want to see you watch Valhalla Calling.
I subscribed for the Electric Callboy and I'm definitely here for the Voiceplay. Geoff has his own channel as well if you wanted to check it out he has an amazing range! Welcome to another rabbit hole sir
So here's something you should know. There is a slightly demented pack of Voiceplay fans roaming the wilds of TH-cam, and what we love-almost as much as a new Voiceplay song-is to see someone discover them for the first time. We do love to watch people get to know this group. You will soon have all the recommendations that you can handle, but let me add my two cents: if you want to find out whether Geoff Castellucci, the bass guy with the hair, sounds like "on his own,"-he has his own channel. (I put "on his own" in quotes, because he usually layers four or even five separate takes to create a chorus of Geoffs.) My favorite is Sound of Silence. If you want to find out how scary he can get, though, there's Jack's Lament and a number of other Halloween specials. Yes, his bass notes are possibly the lowest thing you've ever heard from a human throat-and no, that is DEFINITELY not his only trick. Hope you enjoy!
Hahahaha! Demented you say? We will get along PERFECTLY then 😬 I know my reaction style and weird humour doesn't work with everyone. Especially certain fanbases I won't mention. But I promise you one thing. I will never bullshit. If I like it/don't like it. I will say. And I won't sugar coat things for views and subs. And if I'm not keen, then I try and be respectful yet honest. We can't all like the same things. Otherwise, life and conversation would be very boring.
Welcome to the Wonderful of VoicePlay. I have liked & subscribed to hopefully see more VoicePlay & hopefully Geoff Castellucci (bass) reactions. Geoff is amazing and has a 5 octave range, he also has his own channel. VoicePlay are independent artist, and they have been together since 1997. They have a large fan base who are very loyal. They have an extensive selection of music to choose from. For VoicePlay, I would recommend: Dream On; Seven Nation Army; Hoist the Colors; Drunken Sailor; The Dragonborn Comes; In the Air Tonight; Creep; Black Hole Sun; Total Eclipse of the Heart; Hellfire; Oogie Boogie Song and my all-time favorite is Valhalla Calling. No matter what you choose, you won't go wrong. For Geoff Castellucci (who often clones himself in his videos), I would recommend: Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold; I See Fire; Jack's Lament; You Don't Mess Around with Jim; Ain't No Sunshine; Sound of Silence; 16 Tons and Unshaken. Just like VoicePlay, there are so many good songs to choose from that you won't go wrong. Enjoy the Rabbit Hole.
There's definitely a few for me to get through then 😜 I just wish there were more hours in the day so I could do more videos 😭 But do make sure you watch some of other videos from time to time whilst waiting for the next Voiceplay video. They might surprise you too.
@@melvinthinks True, and I did not mean to suggest Metallica wrote or released it, but merely that they had released their version of it. Along with an... interesting... music video! lol No wild house parties in VoicePlay's video, though. Just a superb acapella arrangement and performance, reminiscent of Metallica's cover.
I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! I am a new subscriber to your channel hoping you will check out more Voice Play. I would recommend "Valhalla Calling" or "In The Air Tonight" for your next Voice Play reactions but pick any of their songs that you know and like- you will not be disappointed.
You gotta check out the solo TH-cam channel of Geoff Castellucci (who is the bass singer). I'd like to suggest you react to "Way on Down" (originally sung by Elvis Presley. Love the honest, down to earth reviews and look forward to your next one (hopefully my suggestion) 😉😉
They had voice notes for the guitar solo but Geoff decided it would sound better with the violin. Voiceplay are the theater kids of a capella groups. They do costumes and backgrounds. They do all of the work with production, editing, setting up whatever they are using for backgrounds ect. Enjoy the voiceplay rabbit hole
I love that it's all them, independent, no label (to my knowledge) etc. I find it inspiring and I hope it gives young (and old) musicians, artists and performers hope that they can go it alone and don't have to be at the mercy of a label or management company. Yes, of course it can help, but if you have the dedication and are willing to get stuck in, network and learn, you can literally Do It Yourself.
Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatboxer) each have 5 octave voices, play several instruments and have been friends since jr high.J None (next to Geoff) is now in the navy but sings with Voiceplay when on leave.
I watched the Rami Malek film again the other day. Queen are literally one of the best bands EVER!!! You forget how many great tunes they have. The list is endless.
I am subscribing to see you react to more a cappella fun. Once you start listening to good a cappella it is hard to stop. The use of a musical instrument is very unusual in a cappella but it is allow once in a while. So did you like Metallicapella?
Hey, yeah that dude on the left is Geoff Castelucci, what you heard is about half of his range, if you really wanna see his whole range you should check out their version of oogie boogie, it´s absolutely insane the vocal range he has
To continue the "How is this possible" trip in the acapella world, now you need to give a country all vocal band alisten as they do "Folsom Jail Blues" or " Listen to the Music" both performed by Home Free. And one of Voice Plays most underated performances would be "Mr Blue"
May I suggest other songs by them like Dragonborn Comes, Valhalla Calling, their Little Mermaid mashup, Hoist the Colors, Dream On, Seven Nation Army, and Geoff's solo work like I See Fire?
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole, Alice. Yes, Geoff is just too amazing! He has his own site, where he shows off his 5 octave range, as well as his extreme yummyness. If you thought Layne's beat box was good here, check out their cover of In The Air Tonight. He tries to emulate Phil Collins drums, and succeeds.
"It would be a bit wierd listening to the dude on the left (Geoff is his name by the way) in isolation all the time, it would scare the shit out of you"..... Well good sir, try looking up Geoff Castelucci here on youtube... he has done some EXCELLENT covers over the years....
I've finally caught up reading and replying to all of the comments in the last 24hrs and one common theme is exactly what you just said! 😄😂😄 Geoff is THE DUDE!
Melvin Bud!!! : ) You've just tripped and fell into a hole that ya won't, can't, don't wanna get out of!!! And ya won't be MAD about it! ... They do have more! And the guy on the left will absolutely "break what ya know" ... or thought ya did; he has his own channel too. In the meantime, if ya get tired of this/these ... or wanna venture more -- I suggest HOME FREE! That should help. Be Safe
Cheers, Rod 😁 I've been sitting down this evening, with a few beers, reading and replying to all the comments in the last 24 hrs. I've clearly only scraped the surface here. Crash helmet is ON!!!
@@melvinthinks : ) Prepare!!! This voice thing (with these groups) ... is at unbelievable levels. I did sub - just to watch and smile! Looking forward to the journey!!! Be Safe
Geoff (the bass singer) spends most of his time in this song imitating a bass guitar, but he has one small problem - he occasionally forgets just how low a bass guitar can really go, and ends up singing something well below it's range!
I must absolutely follow you! Well subscribe. And don't worry, Geoff turns anyone's brain to mush making it hard to string a sentence together, especially the first time you hear him. I think you would love his solos. But Voiceplay is also amazing. If this is what you like (as do we!) you have a load of videos to react to. And Friday Voiceplay released their cover of Thriller. Layne's beatboxing is awesome, Geoff's bass you feel through your whole body (did you know he can sing high too?) Eli's rocking belts are legendary, J. None has the voice of an angel and Cesar too.
Long time no speak 😉 And welcome to the party 🤟🤟🤟 Thriller is high on my list since I learnt that it dropped. I'm gonna try and get it out for Halloween, which would be really cool 👻
@@melvinthinks Lol, thanks! :) I'm looking forward to your reaction to it! Another masterpiece. Take your time though! I'm no content creator, but I am sure your reactions with how you put them together need some time.
Thank you! Some people inevitably assume you just press record, play the song, react, press stop and then upload it, so it all takes about 10 minutes max! lol I wish that were true. The recording process is generally the easy part (apart from setting up all the gear like my camera, mic, lighting etc.), but exporting the raw camera file, making proxies, editing it, mixing and syncing the audio, mastering it, exporting for upload, uploading it, making a thumbnail, title, description etc. can take 3-4 hours per video on average. And if you have longer videos this naturally makes the files larger which takes more time. I don't have an editor doing things for me either - it's just me 😁 But I do enjoy it. It's a chance to be creative and expressive and share something with people you've never physically met. But this isn't a full time thing for me, so I have to be strategic and plan/schedule my videos in advance, batch record and stuff so I can work the TH-cam stuff around my 'normal' life 😊
Geoff Castelucci has an amazingly awesome Solo Channel you should check out. He sings in five different octaves. You should listen to his cover of Wicked Game
Unfortunately, you're wrong about listening to Geoff (Jeff) as a solo artist. Because he has a 5 octave range, he can layer his voice(s) and sound like a one man band. Forgive the pun. And, he has his own channel where he covers a variety of songs too. You'll enjoy them all.
voiceplay is good. but they arent the only ones in this game. you want someone to compare them to check out home free. the big difference will be the type of music they usually choose.
Well, I hadn't ever heard of Voiceplay until someone recently recommended them to me via an Electric Callboy video. But it being a metal cover intrigued me, due to my background.
Thanks Jenny for doing your own Melvin Thinks channel research 😉 Dan is actually on my ever expanding list. I need more hours in the day or to be a full-time TH-camr to keep up with demand! 😂
It doesn't make it any easier when I like to make random life hack videos about cleaning shower screens or Excel tutorials. Dan Vasc vs Melvin Haircut Tip? Hmmmm
It's sad when that happens, but there's always that slight risk of shite vs butterflies. But you are a true warrior for trying, and for that, I am forever grateful 😘
I love seeing people’s 🤯 the first time they see voiceplay (especially Geoff). ❤😂
I'm still in shock and I made this video about 3 weeks ago! lol
It's cool that they are still independent, and hopefully stupid videos like mine spread the word even more. If only a little bit.
Welcome to VoicePlay Man. Nice Reaction. You should check out their other stuff. Thanks again
Cheers Steve 😁
Maybe I could listen to him whilst on the loo? It would help move things along.
@@melvinthinks Yes, especially if you listen to some of his "scarier" songs, like Headless Horseman, or Jack's Lament 😱
@@melvinthinks He has definitely hit the legendary "Brown Note" a few times in his songs! :)

Thank you! Hope I did the song justice 😄
Oh man, I love your commentary! Welcome to VoicePlay -- there's plenty to enjoy (including Geoff's nice long sexy hair)!
Thanks dude! I talk some random shit a lot of the time, but on the odd occasion, I say something quite profound. Honest.
VoicePlay is my fave band on TH-cam! Stellar work!
Thank you 😊 I've got a new reaction coming out for them next week so feel free to come back and check that one out.
Welcome to the VoicePlay (and hopefully solo Geoff Castellucci) rabbit hole! You really can't go wrong with anything they've done, and i usually recommend scrolling through their catalog and finding songs that stand out to you to react to next!
Let's see what the future holds 😀
It's so much fun watching people who found Voiceplay and listen for the first time. The reactions are pretty the same 😂. Welcome to a fantastic rabbithole and enjoy the ride.
The same? My Lars impression kills it! 😜
rabbit hole indeed!
Enjoy!
Thank you, Emma and welcome to the channel 😁
New VoicePlay reactor? Yes please. 😁

you know i really enjoy this video. it always warms my heart when I see a person enjoying what they hear or experience.

Peace
Thank you Marie. It's weird how the band reached me though listening to Electric Callboy, I think! Was great fun 😊
So funny to hear "it would be weird listening to the guy on the left in isolation" - you HAVE to listen to some Geoff Castellucci now!!
Of course, more voiceplay as well
Hahahaha! I'm sold, mate 😁
Well technically😂 is it isolation if he's singing with his talented quintuplet brothers? :p
Cheers Elmar. Hope you're well, buddy 😁
A bit of correction - Eli is second tenor (earlier they had first tenor as well but he retired) and Cesar is high baritone. Not that it limits them.
@@tatewakinew Thank you my friend.

Thanks for the warm welcome and recs! 🤗
He definitely pulled the violin out of his arse. I'm convinced.
I enjoyed your reaction to VoicePlay. I'm subscribing in hopes to see more! Pick any song that appeals to you, and it's most likely great.
Thank you Steph 😘
Oh, oh! I think you need to listen to their medley Queen in 5 minutes, for a completely different view of what they can do! You may also enjoy Creep, In the Air Tonight, and Dream On. But if you want to just laugh - listen to their take on Drunken Sailor.
All great songs. And very different! 👍
Oh yes! This is a great suggestion.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. We’re all mad here. ❤
I'll fit in perfectly then 🤩

One of my favorite things...watching people discover VoicePlay and also Geoff's solo work. Do more reactions to them and their fans will be here for you. Geoff and Layne (and now Eli) take turns overseeing their projects and doing their arrangements. This one is Geoff's. Liked and subscribed. This video is only the 2nd time that "VioLayne" has pulled out his violin in one of their productions. (Layne's done it a 3rd time since, but it's very rare.)

Welcome to VoicePlay, one of the big 3 acapella groups, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. The theater kids of acapella.
From l-r:
Geoff Castelucci bass.
J. None a former member , and current member of the US Navy. He guests when on leave.
Eli Jacobsen tenor
Cesar De La Rosa tenor/baritone newest member
Layne Stein beatboxer , and here known as Vio-Layne, but instruments are rare in their vids.

Nothing Else Matters is the Voiceplay gateway drug. It was my first experience with Voiceplay and the majority of reactors I’ve watched as well. They have since become my favorite band, and I would love to share their extensive library with you
I've certainly had a few recommendations to say the least since I posted this video! 😬
Loved your reaction. Voiceplay is just the best! They can do anything, rock, pop, comedy, classical, balads, love songs..... anyway, they are great and very versatile.

Great time to jump into this rabbit hole. They are really good in most performances but being probably the most theatrical of top US acapella groups - they totally own the Halloween which is coming really soon. Both group in total and Geoff on his own channel.
That'd be cool for me to try and time something spooky 👻
Great summary! The shorts Geoff records into his iPhone are also on his TH-cam channel under "Shorts."
This is great - thanks! I'll naturally gravitate towards hard rock and metal covers, but I am quite eclectic and open minded. Excited to hear some more. Lots of great music out there so please be patient 🙏
@@melvinthinks They did some great rock stuff: Dream On, Seven Nation Army, Valhalla Calling and an oldie: Carry On Wayward Son.
I'm a HUGE The White Stripes fan so I can't actually imagine how they've tackled this as an acapella. One way to find out, I guess 😁
You should check out Whiskey in the Jar after this one. The arrangement changes it into a completely different song. No one has ever performed it like this.
Welcome to the world of voiceplay! 🥹💜💜

Wecome to the rabbit whole of VoicePlay. Check out their cover of Aerosmiths Dream On. You can't find any song that they haven't made better. They never disappoint us. Buckle up and Enjoy the Ride! Check out their version of the HALO theme but make sure you watch till the end! And definitely check out their Halloween selections too! Can't go wrong with VoicePlay
Thanks Trisha! 😁
I hope they heard my impression. I could join their band one day 😬
Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay! Their channel is a treasure trove of musical goodness, and I also highly recommended checking out Geoff Castellucci's (the impressive bass singer) solo channel.
I certainly will and thanks for the warm welcome 🤗
Congratulations! I've watched dozens of reactors in their first hearing of VoicePlay. They always get what I call "Geoff shock," as you did. You are, I think, the first I've seen who got past the shock fairly early on, enough so that you could acknowledge Layne's beatboxing and, later, the voices of the three other singers. You're also the only one who didn't react with shock and amazement when the violin appeared.
I'm used to seeing people pull things out of their arse. That's why 😁
Your "warm and soothing" at the beginning of the video is the best way to describe Geoff's voice ❤

Oh I've heard the original many many times. But wait until you hear VP's version. You will appreciate it on its own. It's like two different songs but also the same.
@@melvinthinks LOL!

I dunno if I can cope with 5 of him! 😱
Welcome to the VP rabbit hole!!! The more you hear, the more you'll like!!
Tell me about it! 😊
@BlueRavenDK Cheers very much! 😁
Now you're going to listen to more of them and bass Goeff Castellucci.☝️👍 You deserve such great talent!! ❤️🔥🙏
I do lots of rock and metal on my channel, as well as a bit of pop and alternative. But this is DEFINITELY something a little bit different 😀
Yes, welcome to the rabbit hole. BTW VioLayne is also the carrot lord. Enjoy. I showed my boys your reaction and they said they want to see you watch Valhalla Calling.
I love carrots. I eat a whole one almost every day 🥕
❤ your reaction
Why thank you very much, Cheryl 😊
I subscribed for the Electric Callboy and I'm definitely here for the Voiceplay. Geoff has his own channel as well if you wanted to check it out he has an amazing range! Welcome to another rabbit hole sir
Stop lying to yourself. You subscribed because of my good looks and luscious hair 😘
They do another Metallica cover, 'Whiskey in the Jar'! Worth checking out, mate!
Metallica covered it. Thin Lizzy covered it. It's an old Irish song by The Dubliners I think.
@@melvinthinks True, and I did not mean to suggest Metallica wrote or released it, but merely that they had released their version of it. Along with an... interesting... music video! lol
No wild house parties in VoicePlay's video, though.
Welcome to the fun house, my friend 😜
You gotta check out the solo TH-cam channel of Geoff Castellucci (who is the bass singer).
I'd like to suggest you react to "Way on Down" (originally sung by Elvis Presley.
Love the honest, down to earth reviews and look forward to your next one (hopefully my suggestion) 😉😉
Thanks Jay 😁 Definitely looking forward to hearing some more as it's certainly entertaining for me, and I hope for you too!
Welcome to VoicePlay. You should watch their Queen in 5 minutes.
They cover the whole of Queen in 5mins? Bohemian Rhapsody is 6mins long 😉
@@melvinthinks you will have to check it out.
I watched the Rami Malek film again the other day. Queen are literally one of the best bands EVER!!! You forget how many great tunes they have. The list is endless.
So apparently vio-layne offered to beat box while playing violin but figured it would be visually too much for pple
The world would basically implode.
I am subscribing to see you react to more a cappella fun.
Once you start listening to good a cappella it is hard to stop.
The use of a musical instrument is very unusual in a cappella but it is allow once in a while.
So did you like Metallicapella?
Hahahaha! Thanks Barbara. It was definitely different to what I've done on this channel to date 😁
Hey, yeah that dude on the left is Geoff Castelucci, what you heard is about half of his range, if you really wanna see his whole range you should check out their version of oogie boogie, it´s absolutely insane the vocal range he has
Half? HALF??? Flipping eck, mate. I might pass out if I hear all 5 octaves.
@@melvinthinks please react to oogie boogie, I would love to see your reaction
To continue the "How is this possible" trip in the acapella world, now you need to give a country all vocal band alisten as they do "Folsom Jail Blues" or " Listen to the Music" both performed by Home Free.
And one of Voice Plays most underated performances would be "Mr Blue"
The rabbit hole has opened!!!
Geoff the bass and Layne the beatboxer each have 5 octave voices play several instruments and have known each other since jr high.
Layne can hit 5 octaves too? This band is full of surprises!
May I suggest other songs by them like Dragonborn Comes, Valhalla Calling, their Little Mermaid mashup, Hoist the Colors, Dream On, Seven Nation Army, and Geoff's solo work like I See Fire?
So, there's a few then? 😉
I just did a little wee with excitement.
@@melvinthinks He realy is!! The videoes where there is litteraly 4 of him are awesome!!!
He basically wants to be in Korn or Meshuggah, or A Djent band. Doesn't he? 😉
The dude on the left does in fact do solo projects 😂 try him out
I'm frightened though! 😉
Great track! One of my fav covers of this is by a band called Giant Drag. Check it out if you are ever bored.
Geoff, the bass on the left, does a lot of solo work. You'd be suprised he can hit pretty high notes with 5 octaves of range.
I don't think I'll be able to handle him hitting a high note! 😉
If you want the shit scared out of you listen to the guy on the left's solo version of The Beatles Blackbird" His name is Geoff Castelucci.
Nice! 👍
Geoff the bass singer taught the beatboxer to beatbox !!!
God taught Geoff to sing like a juggernaut
Where do I start? Creep, Oogie Boogie, Jack's Lament, Valhalla, 7 Nation Army, Sound of Silence,
Well... the next reaction is coming out in 1 hour and 57 minutes... 😊
check out ouggie boggie song, the base takes the lead and to be honest he will scare you with his high regester
😱
Geoff is great solo as well - just check out his version of "Sixteen toons" for example.
👍
You really need to go check out Geoffs own page. You will lose your shit over what he sings. He does 4 and 5 part harmonies by himself.
Blimey! 😱
And this is why comments sections are great because they 1) put me in my place 😀 and 2) I learn new stuff 👍
voiceplay is good. but they arent the only ones in this game. you want someone to compare them to check out home free. the big difference will be the type of music they usually choose.
Well, I hadn't ever heard of Voiceplay until someone recently recommended them to me via an Electric Callboy video. But it being a metal cover intrigued me, due to my background.
You should also watch Stan Walker Ultra light beam and I am
👍
Great reaction!
Looked over your Videos - I think you would enjoy listening to Dan Vasc - please try one of his covers!
Thanks Jenny for doing your own Melvin Thinks channel research 😉 Dan is actually on my ever expanding list. I need more hours in the day or to be a full-time TH-camr to keep up with demand! 😂
@@melvinthinks I can imagine that 😆. There's so much good music to discover - but Dan is definitely worth it! 😉
It doesn't make it any easier when I like to make random life hack videos about cleaning shower screens or Excel tutorials. Dan Vasc vs Melvin Haircut Tip? Hmmmm
Try Valhalla calling next.
It's on my list 😊
You should try Home Free another acapella group man of constant sorrow When a man loves a woman
Sweet! 👍
Tried to like and fart funny stuff, shat my pants instead, removed my like :(
It's sad when that happens, but there's always that slight risk of shite vs butterflies. But you are a true warrior for trying, and for that, I am forever grateful 😘
