Nothing Else Matters is the gateway drug for Voiceplay. Voiceplay isn’t just my favorite band, they’re my only band. My recommendation for the next song is just to look at their library and choose a song you love. I guarantee they’ve made it better.
Absolutely. I'm a boomer and I'm pretty picky about covers of some older songs.
Bridge Over Troubled Water - was with Earl and not Caesar, but omgosh, it's a phenomenal cover
Dream On - yes, THAT "Dream On" by Aerosmith; whoda thunk it could be done acapella and done so well?
True Colors - I love Cyndi's original, don't get me wrong; but the emotion that VP evokes with their cover of it has broken many a reacter
Tennessee Whiskey - many people/groups have done covers of this song; again, it's all acapella and it's all done great by Voiceplay
If I Were A Rich Man/Girl - a collaboration with Ashley Diane; who knew a Fiddler on the Roof song could sound pop?
Likewise.
The bass singer is Geoff Castellucci, one of the founding members of VoicePlay, and he arranged this song for them. During this particular song, when he isn't actually singing lyrics, he does his best imitation of a bass guitar - except Geoff has a slight problem of sometimes forgetting just how low a bass guitar can actually go, and he drops in a few notes that just aren't available to a bass guitar!
😂😂😂
😂 yeah, that's about right
That’s mental haha😂😂
@@Sam_TB This might be a bit of a spoiler, so if you'd rather be surprised when watching other works by Voiceplay or Geoff(he has his own channel where he does "low bass covers"), stop reading now. Either way, I recommend watching more of both.
Geoffs range is amazing, everything from B0 to A5 is fair game. There are a few songs where he showcases his whole range but in Voiceplay he usually just stays in the bass role.
@@mightyakkylexVoice Play are known as The Theater Kids of a capella. Please put these Voice Play covers on your to do list. Dream On originally by Aerosmith, Voice Play knocks it out of the ball park. Queen In 5 Minutes, a medley of Queen songs ( shows off their theatrics . Hell Fire from the Hunchback Of Notre Dame.. Hoist The Colors from Pirates Of The Caribbean.. their newly released Halloween cover Thriller & Be Prepared from The Lion King. Geoff the bass singer will blow your mind. Also Geoff Castellucci's cover of Jacks Lament it's a theatrical Halloween song. His name is Geoff Castellucci & has his own channel.
There are lots of bass singers that have the same range as Geoff. Even go lower. But his tone is second to none. Others make sounds at really low notes. He sings words that are understandable. He's very unique
Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. We’re all mad here. ❤
LET"S GOOOOOO!!
Yes we are. But the best fans.
Voiceplay is unique in that they have the widest genre range of the acapella groups, they are fully independent and do their own arrangements, videos etc. with some hired help (like make-up artists and cams).
They are incredibly talented and creative and have been dubbed the "theatre kids" of acapella for good reason. This one was more serious, but usually their offerings are highly engaging and entertaining in addition to their extraordinary vocals.
As we are in spooky season you can definitely check out their Halloween offerings - there are loads to choose from and a new one is being released soon...
Geoff is Uber base (but can also go incredibly high!), Eli (bald tenor) is affectionately called our Rock god (and also arranges), Cesar brings his beautiful voice and soul to the songs and is the newest (and youngest) member and Layne is the incredible beatboxer/baritone who also transformed into Violayne for this cover and handles the bulk of the arrangements in addition to Geoff.
This is a ride you definitely want to go on. They're highly talented and deserves all the support in the world.
Looking forward to more VP. 🌹🕊
VoicePlay's creativity is without equal, and they back it up with amazing vocals and serious production values.
You found voiceplay just in time. They are literally the kings of Halloween. You can make a highly satisfying playlist from just their halloween themed covers. They release one or two Halloween themed songs every year.
Welcome aboard the Voiceplay- (and Geoff Castellucci) Train! 😄 You got one of the best arrangements Geoff did for the group as your entry - and this is a great first impression, I think.
I (as a VP & Geoff Patreon) think, you will have much fun discovering all the different facets of VP (from theatrical, comedic covers to 'updates' of well-known songs). And I know, we "Voiceplayers" love discovering and accompanying reactors who are new to VP all the way. 😊👍
Go watch geoff castellucci (the bass) singing I see fire solo.... or voiceplay valhalla calling... he will break you
That is the correct response to Geoff Casstelucci. He is a magical human. Rest of them no slouches
This version was given the nickname Metallicapella.
Left to right....
Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - bass, arrangements.
J None - baritone, guest.
Eli (el lee) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting, arrangements.
Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor.
Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements, co-owner of Pattycake Productions.
These guys are independent. They do everything themselves from concept to TH-cam. Except intricate makeup, cameras and audio mixing.
So this gives them more freedom on the covers they choose to do and how.
Layne's violin got him one of his nicknames VioLayne. His other is Carrot Lord.
J None is a previous member that left in 2021 to sing with the US Navy. He comes back whenever he can to sing with them. Cesar joined right after.
At present Voiceplay (VP) has only 4 members so they collaborate with various artists for the 5th.
All of their videos are fantastic. So anything you choose to watch you won't go wrong with. Their videos go back many many years.
They are known as both "The Theater Kids of Acapella" and "The Kings of Halloween" because of their love of dressing up and performing.
Last month they did "Be Prepared" from The Lion King movie.
Geoff has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments and sound effects.
He also does most everything himself and his wife Kathy.
His latest video is "Song of Durin". He dresses up as 5 of the dwarves from the Hobbit movies. His 2 previous in the sequel is "Far Over The Misty Mountain Cold" and "I See Fire".
Another sequel he did is "Ghost Riders In The Sky" and "Unshaken".
Geoff clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name, personality and range. Except in Unshaken it was just his 4 clones 😉.
I am in both Geoff and VP patreons. Not high enough for the online list but love where I'm at. I get monthly chats and behind the scenes videos among other perks.
I'm also on the Patreon of Pattycake Productions.
Pattycake is owned by both Layne and former member Tony Wakim. Tony left in 2016 to go behind the scenes and run Pattycake.
Besides renting out their studio, they make original mostly Disney themed videos. Concept, screenwriting to TH-cam.
Most popular are "Villains Haunted Mansion". Bump In The Night". "Villains Lair" series.
But they have a bunch more than are equally fantastic.
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole 🐰.
Subscribed hoping for more of these guys.
And sorry this was so long. I tend to rant when I love or am passionate about something ❤️.
Welcome to VoicePlay 😁
J.None is the second on the left and used to be a full-time member of the band but joined the navy and now pops by for visits every few months.
I have great news and more great news!
Good news: VoicePlay have been at this TH-cam schtick for many years and there are hundreds of fantastic videos for you to enjoy. They are all great!
More Great news: the Bass singer Geoff Castellucci also has a brilliant solo channel where he sings in all the parts in his arrangements. And they are just as good as this one, because he arranged the music for this particular song (credits are always in the description with them)
Though their Halloween stuff is particularly popular and very appropriate for this time of year, so maybe: This Is Halloween (VP), Jack's Lament (Geoff), Hall of the Mountain King (VP), Ghost Riders in the Sky (Geoff)🤔🤔 it is hard to pick
This is Halloween 🎃 that would be good I’ll go for that! Thanks a lot😀 I can’t wait to see more and thanks for watching👍🏼
@@Sam_TB it was a lovely reaction! 😁 just fyi, the group line up changed a few times throughout the years and that one has Earl in it and no Cesar
@@Sam_TB If you are a fan of the movie, they have done four songs from Nightmare before Christmas as well as Geoff’s spectacular Jack’s Lament. Usually people choose the Oogie boogie song, and it is spectacular because Jeff is boogie and really plays it well, but you don’t see the entire group show their stuff. Personally This is Halloween and Kidnap the Sandy Claws are my two favorites from that group of songs.
@@Sam_TBthe Oggie Boggie Song from Nightmare Before Christmas is also amazing. ❤
@@Sam_TB
Others to go with This Is Halloween.....
What's This.
Kidnap The Sandy Claws.
Oogie Boogie Song.
Jack's Lament (Geoff).
That’s called Geoff Castelucci. He’s got the deepest bass voice but also about 5 octaves of range
Oh what do I spy here. A fresh victim for the Voiceplay Rabbithole?! Awesome. Welcome to the family! Did you know Geoff (the low bass long hair one) has a channel with solo songs? His name is Geoff Castelluci. As for J. None, he was the guy to the left of Baldi (Eli, pronounced Ellie). The whole group is amazingly talented. J. None used to be a permanent member of the group, he left and I am not sure why anymore...but he comes back 'featured' quite regularly :) The whole group is magic. Left to right: Geoff, J. None, Eli, Cesar and Layne (beatboxer)
Some recommendations I would give is the 4 Nightmare before Christmas songs. Especially Oogie Boogie will throw you ;)
J None left to sing with the US Navy chorus the Sea Chanters in Washington DC.
@@jackyfriedman1963 That was the one. Thank you, I forgot over time.
@@Jaezrar
😉
Sam, sir, He is one of the deepest bass singers and he has 5+ octaves (FACT) He can also sing tenor.
neighborly greetings
Elmar from Germany
how Geoff sings that low? well, it's mostly genetics, he's born with the vocal cords of a bass. that gave him the starting point he needed to work on his voice over the past 3 decades to become the singer he is today, getting lower over time, and working hard to gain and keep the higher parts of his voice at the same time.
so it's not something "everyone" can learn to do, you have to have the genetic starting point of at least being a baritone to be able to sing some upper bass notes. Geoff is a low bass.
I always think it’s funny that he wanted to be a rock tenor when he was younger. He can go pretty high, but I don’t think he could cover the tenor position on a regular basis😂😂. (But then again who among us would’ve thought he could hit the last note at end of a piano? Always surprising us!)
@@janetdw it's probably because he was singing already before his voice changed, and he also sang tenor for a good while after his voice changed. his voice didn't go BASS overnight, so it took a while for him to discover he had become a bass, lol. Geoff's always been a rock fan, and who doesn't dream of being a rock star in their teens, haha! 😆😆
and yeah, he CAN sing tenor, and he CAN do those really high notes, but they *hurt*, so he can't do them regularly, lol
Yes, love it. Geoff Castellucci and the gang are just amazing ❤❤ Welcome to a new rabbit hole
"What am I supposed to do?" Just what you did -- rewind and marvel. Also, good for you using a new word in a sentence! All of VoicePlay's catalog is good. I suggest you find something that appeals to you and give it a listen. I really enjoy new reactors discovering VoicePlay!
One of my favourite hobbies lately...
The look of shock & disbelief on a reactors face, when Geoff goes to the basement is always worth it 😂
The sense of wonder when realizing the perfect harmonies mirroring my own feelings is just great
They say if you make dishes rattle, you're a bass. If you sound like a Viking war horn, you're Geoff Castelluci! Welcome to Voiceplay 😂
Seems to be your first Voiceplay reaction 😂😂. I love these signs of disbelief in the faces when people find the way into the rabbithole of Voiceplay. Just go through their channel - and perhaps Geoff's (the bass) channel too. Any song you will pick will leave you behind the same way. You just can't go wrong.
Thanks Anna😀
Thank you! I'm laughing SO hard at your reaction to Jeff's voice! Glad you enjoyed them! This is just the beginning! Jeff Castellucci, the bass, has quite a few "Halloween" songs for the season .... The Headless Horseman, Oogie Boogie Song, This is Halloween! That's J. None at 10:53. I also love their covers of Seven Nation Army and Creep!
Got a great one coming soon😀 thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨 .. Yes Sam .. Yes Yes Yes , you made it to the top 3 giants of the acapella world. Geoff Castalucci is the low low low singer. He actually has a bunch of videos with his solo stuff. He is surprising each time. Voiceplay always delivers with harmony , costumes and humor. I will recommend a few songs from Voiceplay
1 - "Hoist The Colors"
2 - "We Don't Talk About Bruno"
Great reaction again Sam. I will be looking your next videos. 🌪️🌪️🌪️💧🎼💧🌪️🌪️🌪️
Everyone here has said it better, so my only addition is to say to always watch with the captions on, and watch to the end. They sometimes add comments, snark, and behind the scenes 😁
Oh I love it, when people watch VP for the first time 🤩
The look of total disbelief 👀
The "This!...That..." had me laughing so hard 🤣
THAT is Mr. Castellucci, the smoothest, silkiest bass on planet earth 🫶🏻
Maybe he's not the lowest bass singer, but his tone is just gorgeous 🥰
Loved your reaction and suscribed for sure, so hoping for more VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci solo work to come 🙏🏼
Plenty more to come, thanks for watching😀
Mr. None is the second from the left. He sings in the Navy, but was a member of VoicePlay, he visits as often as he can.
EfG
And when he was a regular regular member of the group, he was the baritone who could also cover the tenor range when necessary (in The Lion Sleeps Tonight, he goes quite high), but recently was reassigned as a basf for the elite naval choral group. I think he’s trying to catch up with Geoff’s range!
Welcome to VoicePlay. Love it when someone shows the same reactions I have every single time I listen to this one... there are so many more! Have fun choosing. We're here for it! 🎉😂❤
Welcome aboard! Thanks very much👍🏼
Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. It's like the Hotel California, you can always check out, but you can't ever leave. We all float down here lol
Yes!!! My absolute favorite of the 3 groups! They are the best! I hope to see you reacting to more of them. And the bass, Geoff is particularly amazing 😅
While I do enjoy the voices if several a capella groups, Voiceplay has the most creative arrangements and consistently amazes. They also have great videos. Goeff Castellucci has some amazing solo stuff, too.
Check out some of their Halloween songs!
VoicePlay are simply the GOAT. That is all.
It‘s so great to see first reactions to VoicePlay - I highly recommend the Oogie Boogie Song since it is the season and as personal favorites I‘d say Drunken Sailor or Classical Chaos
Welcome to the war horn we affectionately call Geoff Castelucci. As DJ, another reactor put it, "when I see this man, I know I'm going to vibrate." The crazy part? This song is just him _lightly kissing_ the low notes.
My favourite thing is seeing people react to hearing Geoff's base notes for the first time. My second favourite thing is seeing them react to hearing him go high after that when they think nothing can shock them anymore. 😂
Welcome to the rabbit hole, VoicePlay is amazing. In time you'll gain the ability to fully appreciate the others as well. They're all brilliant.
Geoff has that effect on a lot of people. 😆This video earned VoicePlay a call out of the blue to perform in concert with the band Chicago last year. They're just amazing--pick pretty much anything in their channel and I promise it will be well worth your time, but Hoist the Colours and Valhalla Calling are a couple of other particular favorites, and their new Halloween cover that should be dropping within the next couple of weeks is going to knock everyone's socks off. Liked and subscribed, hope to see you react to them again!
I already am in the credits - and proud of it! Welcome to VoicePlay and the crowd of patrons that will watch your reactions to them.
They really are the kings of Halloween, so this is a great time of year to discover them. A new one will be out soon, but in the meantime, you might start with This Is Halloween. It will give you a good idea of how much fun they have when Rick (their favorite makeup artist) is in the studio.
I’ve subscribed to see what comes next.
Geoff is a dragon slayer 😂 he is just that freaking amazing. Eli is just a rock god. Layne is just not human lol he's amazing. Caesar is just adorable with the sweetest sounding voice. J is just awesome! You can't go wrong with VoicePlay, and just wait until you get to what they have planned for Halloween. They are masters when it comes to Halloween 🎃
Valhalla calling, hoist the colors and don't kill me little mermaid medley then hall of the mountain king classical chaos to start you'll figure it out from there! 😄
For the all out VP reaction, try Valhalla Calling, and get blown away again
This version of Nothing Else Matters caught the attention of the band Chicago. They were preparing a concert last November, Chicago and Friends. They invited Voiceplay to do the two day event with them to be streamed worldwide later.
Their version of The Way You Make Me Feel has put them in contention for a Grammy nomination. We all have our fingers and toes crossed for that.
If you want something hysterically funny from them, try Drunken Sailor. And remember it ain't over when you think it is.
Just watching your face was a delight😊. As has often been said to first reactors, "Welcome to the rabbit hole!". Your next jump should be to Geoff's personel channel. He uses music, and I personally would suggest staeting with "Sound of Silence".
And welcome to the family!
8:13 here this part, when you get accustomed to Geoff-isms and picking out each individual Voiceplay voice... you notice that he just cheekily joins the tenors up there before sliding down again😊
Geoff Castellucci has his own solo TH-cam channel, which you definitely will enjoy.
I personally recommend his version of Blackbird.
Geoff Castellucci (bass) on your left.
Then JNone (real name Jesse Nunn III). As folks mentioned, he was the group's baritone from 2017-2021, but is now serving in the Navy so in this vid he's the guest artist.
Then tenor Eli Jacobson.
Then baritone Cesar DeLaRosa, JNone's replacement.
Then beatboxer Layne Stein, who was the group's original baritone.
You should check out Dream On, or Carry On Wayward Son. Or Tennessee Whiskey. Or some of the costume dramas. Get a better feel for the group's range of genre.
Geoff has his own YT channel where he multitracks himself into 4 or 5 part harmonies. He also had some tutorial vids there on how to sing really low. Yes, he does claim that it's partly a matter of practice, altho genetics also plays a role. [He claims (elsewhere) to be a natural tenor.] To go low, he uses a combination of Growl, Vocal Fry, and Subharmonics. He learned the Growl (basically clearing your throat on pitch) from Tim Foust of Home Free.
In Geoff's interview on Peter Barber's YT channel, Geoff said that he's a baritone with access to low notes. Peter begged to differ but don't know if he swayed Geoff. Geoff has said that he had always hoped to be a tenor when he was younger. His solo channel is fun because we can hear him sing in all of his ranges more...low bass to tenor. His recent "Song of Durin" release based on Tolkien's Middle Earth is fantastic. He goes all in on the makeup/beards/costuming.
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. It is deep and amazing and steals your heart.
Welcome to voiceplay! I watch your ren reactions but I also love voiceplay 😁🥹💜
Yay, thank you!
This is such a good starter song! You won't regret your VoicePlay journey! Wait'll you get into their more theatrical pieces! (Especially their Halloween piece this year, which I think may tbeir best yet. It's only on Patreon ATM.) They ARE the Theatre Kids of the Acappella Trifecta! But as this video proves, they can play it simple too!
You won't see BioLayne (Layne Stein, the beatboxer) too much, but it's always a treat when he shows up.
J. None is the handsome African American gent with the smooth soulful voice!
And the bass, Geoff Castellucci, has his own channel of low bass covers! Don't miss it!
Oh, and if you'd like some rules for watching (suggestions, really), and info on, VoicePlay let me know. I've been a VoicePlaya for a long time, kinda threw them together. But I'll only post them if you specifically write it's okay. Only one reactor out of dozens didn't appreciate it, but I still ask for permission first.
😊💙
You can post whatever you please, you don’t need my permission 👍🏼😀 thanks for watching!
@@Sam_TB I appreciate that! I know it seems silly, but one guy took offense, thought I was telling him how to react. I wasn't. But I don't want to offend anyone.
Here we go. Sorry this is so long. But I like to be thorough.
Okay, here goes! Some unofficial rules for listening to Voiceplay, and some info as well. I just came up with them on my own, but after years of being a Voiceplaya, I've found they're necessary for optimal Voiceplay (and to a degree, Home Free/Geoff Castellucci as well) listening. If you've already got some of them down, know I'm just posting the list, not criticizing your reactor skills!
The rules: #1) VERY important! ALWAYS watch to the very end of the video, or at least a ways into the patrons scrolling. Often times it may LOOK like the video has ended, but there's an outro. Also, watching to the end lets you see their awesome cover art, hear the karaoke cover, or just listen to the music some more!
#2) Always leave the closed captions on. Geoff's wife Kathy (who helps with their videos, she also appears in some, such an amazing woman!) has hearing loss, so sometimes there will be little hidden gems in the CC.
#3) If you pause a video to speak, rewind it ten seconds before you start it again, to make sure you don't miss anything.
#4) Don't look away from the screen, or close your eyes for more than a second, because, again, you might miss a visual gag or clever moment. Their videos are chock full of them.
#5) Don't go into their videos with expectations on what the song will be like, i.e., that it will be the same as the original. These guys put their own spin on things. The only thing to expect, generally, is to be blown away by their sheer talent.
#6) Unless you have a REALLY great speaker system with stereo sound, ALWAYS wear good headphones/earbuds with Voiceplay and Geoff. They do amazing little tricks you can only pick up with those hearing devices. Plus, some of Geoff's notes are so low you practically can't hear them without headphones.
Okay, now for some info on the group.
One of the greatest things about Voiceplay is their videos ARE NOT COPYRIGHTED! They want people to enjoy and react to their videos (and sometimes they will watch the reactions themselves)!
Oh, and FYI, Voiceplay is: (Left to right in Nothing Else Matters.)
*Geoff Castellucci.* (Said Jeff Cas-teh-lou-chee) He's the bass, with long hair. He has a solo channel of low bass covers, well worth checking out! His lowest note, currently, is a B0. You can hear it in Voiceplay's "Valhalla Calling." You almost feel it more than you hear it.
*J. None.* The African American fellow with the crooner's voice. He is currently on "reverse leave," he is away from the group singing for the Navy, but frequently does videos with VP when he can. Some say he's no longer a member, but I feel like he still is.
*Eli Jacobsen* (pronounced El-ee, NOT E-lie!) Tenor rock god. The bald gentleman.
*Cesar De La Rosa,* their newest member. Joined in 2021. He brings the feels to every performance! And he flirts with the camera, and it flirts right back! Cesar has the SASS!
*Layne Stein,* their beatboxer. Sometimes he sings, and it's always a treat to hear his voice. He's also known as The Carrot Lord. AKA VioLayne. The electric violin shows up time to time.
Glad to see you enjoy them! As we all do, the surprise even those of us who have been their fans for years! My favorite Voiceplay line-up is with Cesar and J. None. There have been different line-ups through the years, so don't be surprised if the core members' faces change as you go back farther in time. With J. None on a sabbatical of sorts (the Naval Choir asked him to sing with them), they have different guests for each song. Fear not, because they always find the PERFECT guest for each song! I could tell you all sorts of facts and opinions about each member, but I'll let you discover them on your own! Enjoy! I know we will watching you!
💙
@@DravenGal Thanks very much, I always forget to rewind so I’ll have to apologise in advance😅 I try my best, I haven’t been doing this very long. Also this video was copyrighted? Have I missed a trick or something? Really appreciate you helping me out. Thanks😀
@@Sam_TB It was copyrighted? That's odd. Maybe it's TH-cam doing it?
You have just scratched the surface. I look forward to seeing more reactions to their music.
Welcome to the rabbit hole my friend!!! Geoff (the bass) also has a solo channel (not acapella). Geoff's range is huge, did you notice how high he went at one point? ALL of these guys have amazingly exceptional talent! I'm sure you will grow to love them! The guy next to Geoff is J None, he went to sing in the Navy, the bald guy is Eli the rock tenor the guy next to him is Cesar he's the Baritone that stepped into J's place, and the guy on the end is Layne the Beat boxer and occasionally the violin player
Next you should hear their cover of Seven Nation Amy or Dream On.
J none is next to the bass Geoff .
Voiceplay are the theater kids of a capella
This is my first time hearing Voice Play. What an amazingly talented group. Add to it the plethora of humorous commentary from Sam and it was a great video all around.
🤣😆 Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😀
Oh. Another suggestion...
Watch Voiceplay and Geoff videos to the very end not just to the end of the video itself.
They have a list of thanks to their Patreons as well as a couple of other videos they did.
Plus if its a Geoff arrangement or Geoff's channel he shows some behind the scenes plus on his channel gives a little speech thanking everyone for watching him plus shout out to his highest tier patreons.
My favorite one he did was at the end of "Man of Constant Sorrow". He said "the train tracks i walked on where not in use so please don't walk on any train tracks near you. Trains are big and strong. You are soft and squishy."
That's the geoff and VP personalities. Fun and genuine guys.
"Butter" is a great video that shows their goofiness as well. Pay attention to the background too😅.
Re: wanting to sing along - don't worry, I collab with them on almost all of their songs. They just don't know it 😂
😂😂
The bass sounds he can make are indeed because of practice... but mostly because he has a naturally very low voice, lol. The practice is what makes them sound so good!
Also, we're hoping their Halloween song for this year comes out to the public on Friday, and you should DEFINITELY check that out!
Welcome to the VP/Geoff rabbit hole! We always love welcoming new people to the fold. I loved your reaction! I hope you will grace us with many more in the future. Everyone else here covered all the other info, so I'll leave it at that. 😁
J. None is the black man sitting beside your man crush. 🤣💞💯🔥
Very subtle indeed... Great reaction. VP is a force of nature , very theatrical and entertaining in many of their videos. Their newest for example "Be Prepared" from The Lion King and their next offering for Halloween featuring J None again, a classic that their Patreon has been begging for for years. They have a "plethora" 😊of genres on their channel...
As everybody else is saying, listen to Geoff's solo channel next....
He did a cover of "Man of constant Sorrow" 😜
now you need to check out Geoff Castellucci's solo stuff lol, it will blow your mind
Congratulations! You have now completed your introduction to the Trinity of acapella. VoicePlay are the theater kids of acapella, you can't tell from here, but if you hit their 4 Nightmare Before Christmas covers (It is spooky season now), you'll understand. Home Free are the country boys of acapella, though they can do anything, even opera. Pentatonix are the artistes of acapella, though I stopped listening after Avi left.
Keep on keepin' on, man!
Ah yes, the kings of Halloween. You really gotta check out their "Thriller" that just dropped. You get to see the "Theater Kids of Acapella" in their element, with makeup, prosthetics, sets, and incredible singing skills are SCARY good.
So from left to right-Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") Castelluci, who is the best bass in the world as far as I'm concerned! He has a full five octaves. Next to him is J. None. The bill him as featured artist because, although he used to be with the group full time, he quit to join the service. That fifth member is filled by many different guest artists in their many videos. In the middle is Eli (pronounced "Ellie") Jacobson. He has an awesome rock quality in his tenor that compares to none. Then we have Cesar De La Rosa, the newest and youngest member of the group. His voice is so sweet, but he can also show us a lot of power and range. Lastly is Layne Stein doing the beat boxing. Although he doesn't use the violin often, his nicknameis "Vio-layne"! The best beat boxer in the business. These guys do all their own arrangements, lighting, staging, costumes, and mixing. They don't tour or do much live, but they've absolutely perfected the studio sound. As for suggestions, OMG there are so many favorites. I loved their cover of "Dream On" (Aerosmith), also Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), "Creep" (Radiohead), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), and "Hoist the Colors" from "Pirates of the Caribbean". They also do classical music, opera, and Disney, etc etc etc. Their newest release is "Be Prepared" from "The Lion King". Geoff plays Scar. Another Disney fave is "Hell Fire" from "Hunchback of ND"). Geoff also has a solo channel. Check out "16 Tons", "Jack's Lament, and "Far over the Misty Mountains".
Although their Halloween special should be coming out within the next week or so, you might react to their recent cover of Be Prepared from the Lion King. Geoff is cast as Scar and you can see a little more of his range including his rock belt.
Others have already made several very good recommendations so I’ll just say that I liked and subscribed and hope that you follow this little rabbit hole. If so, you will have lots of company!
No no - I totally believed your ‘plethora’! You dropped it in so casually, I thought you’d been saying it your whole life!
Also, how good are VoicePlay? I can’t get enough of their version of ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’.
They’re incredible and I can’t wait for more😀
It's wonderful when reactors discover VoicePlay and Geoff's solo channel. Subscribing and hoping for more on the work of these very talented folks! I love the way that they arrange music almost as much as their vocals. VoicePlay has done covers of several songs/themes from video games that you might like. Geoff has done at least one on his solo channel. I'm not a gamer but enjoy all of the music that they introduce me to.
Thank you Sam for a great reaction to Voice Play.
Subscribing to follow you down this rabbit hole
Thanks a lot👍🏼
Wow! They are quite the group!
Those were some super human low notes! I bet Sam will be trying to see how low he can sing after this! 😂😂
Great and natural reaction again Sam, thank you. Looking forward to hearing more songs by them.
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Vicky, always a reliable viewer. I appreciate you👍🏼
Hi, very good first reaction. Believe me, we understand you, 'cause everyone of us has been as you are right now, at a given moment. Be prepared for what stands ahead if you take this rabbit hole: it's enourmous. Btw, if you hear Geoff in VP's "Valhalla Calling", I think you won't be able to sleep at night. And if you want to appreciate Geoff's extraordinary vocal range (5 octaves) there's "Oogie Boogie Song" (ideal to hear in Halloween time). Hope next reactions to VP's catalogues. Wellcome !!
Yeah, Geoff Castellucci is not human. He has a naturally deep voice and trained it to go even deeper. And THEN he trained it to go deeper, etc.
The Voice play rabbit hole is extensive and deep. And it doesn't just stopped with voice play. The base guy that you were absolutely freaking out over has his own solo work that he does.
For voiceplay, we are getting into spooky season so I would recommend this is Halloween, the oogie boogie song, ding dong, the hall of the mountain king and the sequal video classical chaos and kidnap the Sandy clause, and be prepared.
Foe the bass (geoff castellucci), you gotta start with over the Misty Mountains Cold and the sequel videos I see dire and song of durin, for old hallows eve you have Jack's lament, headless horsemen, and monster mash, and for all around good time, house of the rising sun, don't mess around with jim and big iron.
That's just to start lol 😆
We bid you Welcome and enjoy
Your volume is one for us but good reaction!! Welcome to voiceplay 😊
What do you mean my volume is one? Can’t you hear it? 😅
@@Sam_TB The volume of the music video is much lower than the volume of your voice. The music was harder for us to hear. (Not that most of us haven't listened to this VP video a lot already...so it's all good.) Thanks for the reaction.
@@Sam_TB Overall the volume was quite low, but the music especially was low. Usually people are way too loud for me, but I had my phone and my earphones turned all the way up and that’s very unusual for me. But great reaction.
Seriously! Do In The Air Tonight!
Oh, plethora is such a good word! Good on you for increasing your vocabulary. 😊 And yes, you could have just slid right on by and we would never have known that you just learned it. You used it so smoothly! Just use your good words and never mention that you're just learning them! 😂
Commenting to help with the algorithm. Thanks for another great video ❤
Thanks you’re the best😀
If you like Geoff's low notes you have to do Valhalla Calling, he's subterranean on that one
Voiceplay is fabulous. I love acapella in all forms. My favorite band is Pentatonix but voiceplay is right there with them. These guys have quite a few really great songs out there. "We don't talk about bruno" is a really well-done and the arrangement of that one is crazy good.
Yep. Great and completely independent group. They're doing almost everything themselves with the support of patreons and outside jobs.
This one is epic.
Love your reaction! They are the best!!
You're the best! Thanks👍🏼
I’m going to suggest “In the air tonight” but honestly there’s no bad choices and a huge catalogue to pick from. Pick your favourite genre and just go for it 😂
Loved the reaction
Appreciate honesty every time. This is a truly fun reaction. Love that you are learning new and more descriptive language. Words are my particular forte. I must sometimes force myself to use more simplistic language because I find many cannot understand. However, I do encourage you in your quest to achieve a better vocabulary.
Loved your astonishment at Geoff's low notes. It is always enjoyable watching people respond to VP and Geoff for the first time. They are truly awesome in the original sense of the word.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
From left to right we have Geoff on bass, J.NONE, Ellie (aka God of Rock), Cesar and last but not least, Layne. Welcome to the rabbit hole!
That was awesome!!! Thank you!!!💛💛💛
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 😀
Left to right is Geoff, J None, Ele, Cesar and Layne.
Imagine the fragrance coming off that f****r, could be the funniest thing that I have ever heard relating to Geoff, thanks for that 🤣🤣
Welcome to Voiceplay! Expect your notifications to blow up as we all filter in to comment. :)
Really quick before I get to the novel. You don't need to apologize for showing something you just learned. That's awesome and I love it. The day we stop learning is the day we take our final breath. Keep learning! And of COURSE you used it. The best way to RETAIN the newly learned thing is to USE it - especially when it comes to language and vocabulary! ❤️ (Okay, now onto the novel. 😆)
The bass is Geoff Castellucci. He has a five octave range. I'm a low alto and Geoff can soar way over MY top reach. 🤣 And then he drops like a rock right through the bottom, smashes the basement out from under you and leaves you trying to figure out what just hit you at the bottom of the Mariana trench. His highs are just as amazing, but it's always his low notes that get your attention when you first hear him sing.
It's completely normal for the singing earthquake to overshadow everything else at times when you're still new to Voiceplay and Geoff. As your ear gets used to hearing him, that will fade a little bit and you'll start to notice how equally amazing all of the others are, too. And THEN after that, you start noticing how brilliantly smooth Geoff's upper range is. (Note that his solo work is NOT acapella. It's still outstanding music, though, and he sings all of the parts and then layers them together.)
Check out his solo channel here if you want to hear a little bit about how he sings the lows that he does. He posted two videos on his channel about it. You'll have to scroll a little bit, as they are older than most of his solo content.
The bald guy is Eli (pronounced as "El-ee"), and he's an outstanding tenor. He's definitely got the rock tenor quality to his voice, too, but he is very versatile (as ALL the guys are) and will surprise you often. Eli often does the lighting and sometimes background imagery.
Layne is the beat boxer/vocal percussionist, and of course, is also very skilled on the violin, which has earned him the nickname of "VioLayne." Voiceplay doesn't deviate from acapella a whole lot, but every once in a long while, VioLayne comes out. :) This was the second inclusion of the violin in their catalogue. The first time was their cover of "Warriors."
Layne doesn't often sing in a lead or solo part, but every now and then he treats us to a little bit of his singing. He's got this really soft, smoothe tone that's just absolutely beautiful and we don't get to hear it enough! LOL.
Cesar was added to the group a while ago, and he did perform as a featured artist with them for multiple pieces before becoming a full fledged member of the group.
J None used to be a full member, but left the group in order to go into the military. I'm pretty sure he got in as a vocalist, but not 100% positive. If I'm wrong, someone will definitely come along and correct me. He comes back periodically to join them as a featured vocalist from time to time.
The guys are based in Florida, and they used to tour before Covid. During Covid, they started producing more polished videos instead, and that has really taken off for them. They don't really tour much anymore, but you can find videos around TH-cam of some of their live performances. You'll find that they don't sound all that much different live. They DO process their videos and audio, so you'll hear effects (like reverb, for one example) on their audio at times. But unless Layne's violin is involved, they're producing the raw vocals and sounds with their own voices.
Layne and Geoff share the arrangement duties more or less 50-50, with them basically traditing off on who arranges the songs.
Voiceplay is an independent group. They're not signed to a label and do everything themselves - costuming, make-up, sets, lighting, audio engineering, editing, arranging, choreography, etc. Geoff's wife is often involved working behind the scenes with them (and his solo work). Read their descriptions, as they always give full credits there for who did what on each video.
Voiceplay are basically the theater kids of acapella. They're very theatrical and most of them (all??? someone else can clarify) have worked at Disney as well. Musical theater is kinda in their blood, and they basically OWN Halloween at this point. They always do an amazing Halloween video every year, and Geoff does one for his solo channel as well.
They used to be a group of five, but these days they basically operate as a group of four and bring in different guest vocalists for each piece to fill that fifth spot.
Enjoy the rabbit hole. I'm sure others with more detailed knowledge will give you lots of other information on the group.
Oh! One last thing before I forget. Make sure you let their videos play through to the outro screen where they list their top tier patrons. Because they are independent, they are largely funded through a combination of their own means and their Patreon members. Out of respect for the hard work and the fact that they let us have access to their work for free on TH-cam here, we like to see reactors let their videos play through to that. (They also sometimes include updates or quick promos for something they're doing at the end of the video, too.) So anyway, it's a good idea to let it play through to the patrons list or you might get buried under a pile of comments from the fans telling you to let it play through.
And here's a tombstone for your YT notifications. 🪦 You'll be needing it. 😂
The bass Geoff (Jeff) hits an E0 for 15 seconds in Valhalla calling. First time on your channel subscribe for more acapella
"How does he do it? Don't tell me that's practise!" - Well, it helps if you have a deep voice by natural. But the other half is, guess what: practise. Breath control, pitch control, technique, expression, esp. subharmonic singing, doesn't come by nature. That's a thing any musician or singer must practise, months and years, before reaching that level of perfection. Btw Geoff has some tutorials on his channel "How to sing deep". Maybe of interest for you?
Loved this one 😊
Welcome to the rabbit hole 😅
Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay. The are absolutely amazing and my favorite out of all the acapella groups. Geoff Castellucci is the bass and he has his own TH-cam channel. I have subscribed to see more VoicePlay & Geoff reactions.
For VoicePlay, I would recommend: "Dream On", "Seven Nation Army", "Creep", "Hellfire", "Be Prepared", "Hoist the Colors", "Drunken Sailor", "The Way You Make Me Feel" and my favorite "Valhalla Calling".
For Geoff, I would recommend: "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold", "I See Fire", "Song of Durin", "16 Tons", "Jack's Lament", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" and "Ain't No Sunshine".
No matter what song you choose, you can't go wrong. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
I enjoyed your reaction- thanks! The deep bass singer on the left end is Geoff Castellucci and he does have his own solo channel. Geoff and the other members of Voice play are a group from Orlando Florida and have worked as performers at the theme parks. They are the kings of anything Halloween themed so I would recommend reacting to that while the season is here. I highly recommend "Jack's Lament" on Geoff Castellucci solo channel and keep an eye out for Voice Play's new release that will probably be out this coming Friday (depends on how bad hurricane in Florida will be this week).
3:00
That's practice plus talent 😂
Such a tender song😢
I enjoyed your comedy bit in the middle, reminded me of Ricky Gervais. But yeah Deep Bass Geoff is distracting, everyone in the group is great but there is something by Geoff that is enthralling.
You are so damn naturally funny.
Cheers, nice of you to say and thanks for watching😀
If you want to get more Geoff, he also has his own channel (just search Geoff Castellucci its just his name) where he just released Song of Durin. And yep, its all him.
If you thought this was good (and it is) you haven't seen anything yet.
Should we mention that bass boy wasn’t even trying here? He has plenty of room left on both sides of his range. They recently covered “Be Prepared” from the Lion King and Geoff has the lead there if you want to hear him go off the chain a bit. 😊
