    Today we are doing a weird one, because it was requested. This is a liquid soap using the cold process method. Because yes you can do that thing, but I really don't like making liquid soap via cold process because you have to mix it for a real long time, and that's annoying.
    Yes the recipe is written down. No I don't have time to type it in here. I'm a busy gal. You're welcome!

    Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
    Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
    Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

    Don't give up on CPLS! You can speed up the process by dissolving your KOH in an equal amount of water, and then use glycerine for the rest of the liquid. The glycerine really speeds up the trace process. Also, olive oil is the slowest to trace bc it is so high in oleic acid. A recipe lower in oleic and higher in stearic and palmitic will trace much faster. You are welcome. :)

    Mrs. S & C, your amazing, and so hilarious! This was a super cool recipe video. I knew it could be done, but watching this, I'm of your opinion, NO! I've done the hot process method for liquid soap and only find it adequate. I would rather use my recipes that I make for my skin care line, they are mild, gentle, and can either be really bubbly (think bubble bath) or creamy (think cleanser.) If yoy want a Dr. Bonners type, use the hot process method, so much easier! Thanks for sharing, I'm always here to see you do the amazing!

    So NOT doing this one! But THANK YOU for doing it for us so we know not to now!! And like...do all us sudsers owe you a stick blender allowance or something...for all the ones you wreck on our behalf?
    Question...when making a hot process paste for liquid soap, does it also need to be sequestered for a time before using it?
    and YES!! It certainly has been a ding darn day!!!!! LOL

    Stop killing your hand blenders! There’s an easier way. Blend your oils and KOH water until it’s emulsified. Let it sit for like 10 minutes; blend again for a minute. It may separate while you’re away… that’s ok! Do this like 3-4x. The final blend will quickly become a thick trace. Cover up with a lid or plastic as in the video and leave overnight. It’ll be a clear gel in the morning. Over the course of the next few days the gel will become more cohesive in color. I usually make a big batch and dilute a bit for immediate use, the gel just looks more lovely over time!

      @merelmerula9313 thinking of making 100% coconut oil liquid soap using cold process method....will it solidify into a soap paste even if I leave it at light trace instead of going all the way for a heavy trace and not blending for 30-40 mins...and leave the soap covered overnight in a warm place to thicken?......will it work even if left aside at light trace itself for a cold process liquid soap?

    • @WanderingSpirit-ld1zc
      @WanderingSpirit-ld1zc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@karan25535 What is the purpose of the extra work when hot process doesn’t abuse your blender or time and comes together in minute's? I could make 3 95 oz batches in the time it takes you guys to play around with 16 oz of cold process. Idk I guess I don't see the purpose, it's not like you’ll produce a superior soap which would make it worth the extra work. 😏

      I'd simply use a surfactant that is a breeze to adjust. The lowest I've gone with Natural LS is 9.

    When I put the recipe through soapcalc, it said to use 2,96 oz of KOH, rather than 2,34 oz. That might explain why there was free floating oil?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is superfatted a bit, but I also didn’t see any free floating oils! It is just going to take a long time to hit emulsion when working with KoH in a cold process method. ❤️

  • @iKit306
    @iKit306 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ooh! I had to go grab some ice cream for this one. It sounded that interesting! Partly because I know I was one of those who asked about this so it was like you made this for me. And I really REALLY appreciate it. Though I had no idea it would take that long to blend! That's wild.
    Which actually makes me wonder... if I did a hybrid lye, like say, 95% NaOH 5% KOH, would I still get a firm long lasting solid bar... but an extended trace / working time? And can this soap paste be used for things like the sugar scrubs? Can the hybrid hot process paste you made be used for liquid soaps or does the sodium hydroxide prevent that? Can I color liquid soaps with micas or do they just settle? What is the recommended fragrance usage rates for liquid soaps and do you add those to the oils and lye during the blending or do you add those to the dissolving stage?
    I'm sooooo excited even though I probably won't get to try this anytime soon!!

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So many questions! ❤️ I dunno on the lye solution, but it seems logical! This soap paste can be used for whipped soap and all the jazz, and the other soap paste we made can also be used for liquid soap.

      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mean, I go both ways on this. Technically speaking because there’s water, a preservative is needed to ensure no growth. That said, I’ve made liquid soap for personal use without a preservative just to see what it did, and let it sit for over a year. Never developed any beasties. Doesn’t mean it won’t though!
